I will punch any clown who comments negatively towards about Chipper Jones. He is the one true Brave in my opinion. Was willing to take pay cuts, change position for inferior players. Always a team first player. Goodbye Larry Wayne Jones, we will miss you.
Thank God that Chipper will replace Rick Camp as the greatest Brave to spend his entire career with the team. Shame we didn’t do that for Hank, Warren, Eddie, or Phil, but at least we finally got a good player as our top lifelong player. Congrats on one fine career, Chipper—now let’s make this last Chapter the best one yet!
Most of these comments have been warm and fuzzy with thanks to someone who has given his all to the Braves. Chipper has been such fun to watch. He has been willing to restructure his contracts and make a position move in order to help the team and to play his entire career with the Braves which is rare in this age of “give me the money and more of it”. Yes, he’s gotten older and his body, not his love of the game, is telling him it’s time to go, but for those of you with the “what have you done for me lately” attitude who can’t appreciate what Chipper has meant to the Braves, find another team to watch. You’d fit right in with the New York-Boston-Philadelphia crowds!!!
You know, it doesn’t matter what you write a blog about. It won’t take long for the classless idiots to come out. The guy has had a great HOF career but that doesn’t matter to some morons that have accomplished nothing in their own worthless lives.
Chipper, great career….but for what you were making you hung on too long. Your salary and inablility to play more than 120 games really hamstrung the front office from getting a quality bat to improve the middle of the lineup. We’ve had the pitching to win a title if we had the hitting.
If you’re talking trash about Chipper Jones today, you’re not a Braves fan. The guy has been the face of the franchise and it’s best player for almost 20 years. He has restructured his contract several times to help the Braves and always left money on the table to stay in Atlanta. A truly great Brave, and a lock HOF’er. If you can’t see and appreciate what this guy has done for the Braves, you really are lost. All the best to Chipper, thanks for everything you’ve done in baseball.
I see you haters have finally gone and done it, and made Jesus mad. I guess he put you in your place, huh? If Jesus says Chipper is his favorite Brave, that’s plenty good enough for me!
Good, maybe we can get a 3B now that will play more than 80 games in a season. Chipper hasn’t been clutch since 2000 and hasn’t played a full season. He has not had a big hit for us in a meaningful game in years. The Braves kept him because all you hear at each game is cheers for Chipper and people buying his shirts and jerseys. So the team made money off him. Atlanta teams always keep and pay the players they shouldn’t (Chipper, Matt Ryan, Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams) and trade the ones they shouldn’t have traded (Dominique, Deion Sanders, Jermaine Dye).
Good in the sense that we can use that money to get younger and hopefully more productive at 3rd base, but bad because Chipper is a Braves icon. Hopefully he will be a hitting coach or something on those lines very soon.
Thanks for the memories Chipper, and I look forward to the new memories you will make on the field this season. Glad to know you’ll retire as a Brave and hope to stay with the organization!
It had to happen. Chipper has been a great ballpayer and 3rd sacker (probable HOF), but his time is over. I’ve seen Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Dale Murphy, Greg Madddox, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz – all leave the game. It happens to everybody. And it happens best when it is on your own terms and they don’t have to run you off.
Thank you Chipper for all the great memories……. really gonna miss ya hopefully you can take over for fredi who I think is a waste and should have never been hired
Sad to see you go Chipper – hard to remember Braves baseball without you. You’ve carried this team for more than a decade – guess it’s time to hand the reigns down to BMac. Thanks for sticking it out for one more year – it’s gonna be a good one.
These same idiots griping about Chipper Jones trying to help the team the last couple of years would have griped about Mickey Mantle playing an extra couple of years thinking he had something still to offer. Morons!

Gee, what are we going to do without a .270 hitter with almost no power left batting in the 3 hole next year
You’re complaining about a .275 average (.344 OBP), “almost no power” of 33 doubles and 18 homeruns?
I’m not too sure why there’s so much hate for Chipper from people who claim to be Braves fans. He’s been productive for the Braves as recent as…last year.
well well, another big farewell celebratory thingy that will be scheduled smack dab in the middle of the race for that second wild card. And just like last season, the Braves will fall FLAT and miss out on the playoffs. But hey! the special day for chipper will be fantastic and all that these Braves fans and this organization really wants done right!
The last couple of years Mickey Mantle played in 1967 and 68 he played in about as many games as Chipper and had a worse batting average and stats than Chipper. He also had bad knees by that time but I bet you didn’t hear Yankees fans making the same idiotic comments about him that you read on here.
Thanks Chipper for all you have done for the Braves and given your time to make all of us enjoy baseball. May your years ahead be happy ones and you achieve what God has in store for you to do.
Joey T will be our next 3rd baseman not Prado. My guess is after the season the Braves will trade Prado and go after a big bat in LF with the money they are not paying Chipper anymore.
Closely behind Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray as the best switch-hitter ever to play the game
If you think Chipper is behind Murray, you’re crazy. Chipper’s OPS is a hundred points higher (.935 vs. .836). His slugging percentage is much higher (.533 vs. .476). And he has played a much more difficult defensive position.
More to the point, why is it relevant to compare Chipper to other switch-hitters at all, rather than to all hitters? The point of switch-hitting is to make you a better hitter than you would be from just one side — otherwise, you’d just stay right- or left-handed. It’s not like you say, “Well, he doesn’t hit very well, but he does it from both sides of the plate, so that’s OK!”
Sucks about Chipper. I was hoping he would stay as long as possible. My favorite Brave. But at least he can have a farewell tour. He deserves it. Oh well.
In terms of salary structure, if Hudson doesn’t come back strong and the Braves decide to go with “kids” next year and trade Jurrjens/don’t exercise Huddy’s option, we’re talking a rotation of Hanson, Beachy, Minor, Teheran and Delgado. And guaranteed salaries once McCann’s option is picked up will be Mac at 12 million and Uggla at 13.2 million. Those are the only guarantees.
Your comments are idiotic. Mickey Mantle won championships on the field, Chipper did not. Chipper was hurt when the Braves won in ‘95. Dude has padded his stats by not playing many games, and has not had a big hit in a big game since 2000 vs the Mets.
Probably should have called it quits last season. Lets hope he his an asset this year and not just taking up a spot on the bench. Rather have seen him go out on top than on injured reserve.

He hasn’t been relevant for years. Leave today and make room for someone who cares about winning. He is a loser and he plays for a loser. Perfect match …
Mantle holds all-time WORLD SERIES records for home runs (18), runs scored (42), and runs batted in (40). WORLD SERIES, not regular season in June vs the Nationals. WORLD SERIES RECORDS!!
When the Braves won the World Series, Chipper was hurt. Just stating the facts.”
Check your “facts” before “stating” them, bozo. Chipper was second in ROY vote that year, next to Nomo, who had been playing in Japan for years. Batted third. Drove in 86 runs. But please don’t let the facts get in the way of stating them.

The point of switch-hitting is to make you a better hitter than you would be from just one side — otherwise, you’d just stay right- or left-handed.
