V. Jim Which player will be the new face of the #Braves now that Chipper is leaving? Chipper votes for catcher Brian McCann. “He’s a great kid, he’s a great player and he’s the kind of guy you want to build a ballclub around,” Jones said.
Heck yeah!…
Yeah, and if memory serves his agent is Chippers agent as well look for Mac to be signed to a 5 yr extension soon.

Chipper’s been a brave so long that its easy to take him for granted. One of the greatest switch hitters of all time. Amazing that he got to play his career with the same team. The big 3 were the star of that run in the 90’s and 00’s but Chipper was the one who was drafted and played his whole career here. That means something. Looking forward to the season. Hopefully the braves can send him out with a bang and some bling.

I hear that the O’s are looking to move Reynolds. I know he is a huge K guy, with a low batting average.
I was reading Horners BR page, since he was brought up, too bad he could not stay healthy and get 650,or so,PAs. He was not a big strike out guy for someone that slugged.500*……. 74Ks were his highest. Kind of unbelievable Reynolds will strikeout 200/220 times in a season.
At a casual glance it seems a lot of .500 slg guys were not big strikeout guys

I didn’t read all of the nine pages of posts on this blog but I did read enough to know that there are a lot of really angry, unhappy and negative people in the world. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This man, who isn’t perfect as are none of us (including you haters) gave his all for his team and this city. He was the everyday leader on the field for most of his career and once a couple pitchers left he was the true leader of the team. If you know the background, he mentored and nurtured the young players development. He taught them how to be major leaguers. He hit in the clutch. He simply was the Braves for the past many years. Why anyone would get on this blog and say negative things baffles me but proves how sad their own lives are and how pathetic their existence is. How shameful. You make me sick.

DOB…..I don’t know if the Braves have ever had an official captain. We should make an exception this season. He’s been the face of the franchise for almost 2 decades. Let him go out there with a “C” on his jersey every game this season. Today he reaffirmed what he has always stood for, a team before player philosophy. So glad to see him be able to exit on his terms.

Chipper Jones is baseball royalty not just for his play. His loyalty to the Braves organization is unheard of now days. I mean Glavine left Mad dog left Smoltzie gone even Dale left. I no that they all have there own story to tell. But for Chipper his is one of a special player that didn’t let the business of the game dictate were he would play. He didn’t just go out and try to find the most money he could he restructured his contract for them. I just dont have the time an space to express how much enjoyment Chipper has supplied me and my family. All i no is we wont see his kind at third base for the braves for a long time to come. Thank you Chipper for a great career. Go Braves….

O’K after today, I’ve relaxed a BIT in regard to FREEMAN’s bat. Looks like he starting to heat up.
And I had pretty much made up my mind about SS. I’m picking the REV and WILSON for ATLANTA, SUTTON fpr GWINNETT, and SIMMONS in PEARL RIVER with TERDS. Both may end up in AAA by the end of the season depending.
I’m seeing PRADO coming back into the infield full-time in 2013, and we finally get a LF’er with CHIPPER’s millions.
Both DIAZ and HINSKI will be gone after this campaign, and ROSS will once again re-up.
BOURN is pretty closed-mouth, and somewhat enigmatic but with BORAS as his agent, I don’t think he stays in ATLANTA. It could happen, but I say the odds are against it.
VIZCAINO comes back next season stronger than ever.
But MYC JONES, ‘GEORGE’ CONSTANZA, nor LUIS DURANGO stick this season or next. If any hopeful gets the CF gig next year it’s JORDAN PARRAZ and I’m saying not likely.

The only way for a Braves fan to be truly frustrated with Chippers indiscretions over the years is to have forgotten what the other talented 1st pick 3rd Baseman was like. Horner was either injured or demanding a trade/raise thru Bucky Woy, an early version of Scott Boras. He got in a mid-season fight with one of the popular Braves, who soon divorced his wife(you connect the dots), and then was off to Japan. He was training to become a Sumo Wrestler, but couldn’t make weight, so he returned to the US. I side with both camps on Chipper ,he was great, but could have been elite, but at least he was no Bob Horner.

That remains his only championship, even though the Braves kept right on winning the NL East through 2005 in an unprecedented streak of 14 straight division titles. Jones was on teams that lost to the New York Yankees in the 1996 and 1999 World Series. –ESPN
