For those who have been able to watch spring training games: How has Heyward looked in his limited time in centerfield? I’m wondering if he is really a valid option for back up centerfielder.

hope the negative naysayers the haters and the classless stay away as we say goodbye to an icon of Braves baseball. Thank you Chip for great years of service to one team, a rarity in this day. Loyalty & quiet leadership as opposed to the loud mouth me first players of the modern era. thanks for the memories hope we can send you out in style.

Parraz can hit pretty good I’ll admit, but he won’t make the team simply for the fact that, while a capable corner OF, he isn’t a CF no matter what FG says and when he is sent out there he looks worse than Nate McLouth.

my son cried when he got home from school today and heard that Chipper is retiring. Chipper has been a great role model for many a young ball player. My son has always loved Chipper Jones – could be one reason he is a switch hitter because even when he was young he would always have to switch hit to be Chipper Jones with the whiffle ball. The baseball academy up here does say he is a natural switch hitter. whenever they ask who his favorite ball player is it always is Chipper.

I work in my church’s childcare two Sundays a month, with 4 & 5 year olds. One of my little guys is a huge baseball fan. While his favorite team is NYY (his mom or dad one is originally from up there), he loves the Braves too. One Sunday, we were out on our playround and I asked him if he was going to be a baseball player when he grows up. Now this is an adorable blonde haired, blue-eyed little guy. He puffs up and says in a very enthusiastic voice, “I gonna be CHIPPER JONES!” Not Derek Jeter – Chipper Jones. My litle bud has his priorities right

I’m thinking the Braves are giving Heyward these looks in CF to see if he’s a real option to play CF on a regular basis in the future. If Heyward can play CF on a regular basis it sure would open up a lot more doors for the Braves come the next off-season. The Braves wouldn’t necessary have to sign a centerfielder. Heyward has enough straight line speed to play CF but the question is will his size limit his range too much to where he would become a liability defensively in CF.

I imagine you’re basing that on one admittedly bad misplay in CF the other day. He’s hardly the stone-hands you imply.
Durango or Constanza on a Braves’ bench already carrying Wilson doesn’t bear imagining. If Parraz can hit a little, take him north.
