i love boog, just wondering why he feels the need to pick on juan pierre. do people not realize juan pierre has a career .345 OBP? hes not a bad OBP guy. i personally think its weird that he is so often mentioned as an antithesis to what saber-dudes like to see.

It is about as empty as .345 as can be had, but your make a good point. It isn’t as if he is an out machine one the scale of Gonzo, Ankiel, or others.

Which is exactly where I put him at 8:16 am
Why have a nominal fifth starter on the bench for just 3 starts? Medlen can handle that (as I previously posited).
(But it’ll be a whole new ballgame when Hudson returns, though. At which time we’ll have plenty of more current info on performances and injuries to make any decision at this time moot.)

Crazy thing is the announcers were talking all about Cabrera’s defense and how it doesn’t matter because he can hit so good. Guess it matters when he’s getting hurt playing defense though. Bad bounce, but he still let the thing play him pretty bad.

I also love the fact that, when someone asked him why he was announcing a couple of Spring games (he was in Arizona over the weekend) he said “It’s as simple as this: The last baseball game I did was Sept. 28, and I thought, ‘My gosh, all these highly talented players, they have to come here and practice for a month to get ready. I want to do a couple of games just to kind of get the feel of them again. It’s batting practice for me.”
(As if Vin Scully, who has been broadcasting games for 62 years, needs practice! I love him)

If there is a team to worry about in the NL East it’s the Phillies, and their fans should worry. They have tied up a ton of money in aging and injury-prone players (Utley, Howard, Rollins), and their starting pitching is still very good but not great. If Utley’s knees continue to be an issue and Jimmy Rollins continues to decline, the Phils will be on the downward slope in this division. And if the Phils wind up paying Cole Hamels $20 million annually to keep him, they will be looking like the Mets in the near future.

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about — why carry a fifth starter for only three starts in the month before Hudson’s expected return?
That allows both Teheran and Delgado to get the regular work which it appears they’re both sorely in need of, and also allows the Braves to carry an “extra” reliever for a month or so, precluding either exposing an optionless Ascencio or Martinez to the waiver wire or returning Fish to the Angels.
And who knows what the rotation/bullpen situations will be when Hudson does return?

I’m sticking to my statements of earlier this Winter/Spring that I’d much rather see Delgado in the rotation right now than Teheran. I know, i know, Teheran has electric stuff, he’s a future staff ace, etc etc etc.
I’ve seen him pitch maybe 5 times now, about the same for Delgado, and as they stand at the moment I’d take Delgado without hesitation.

TEHERAN didn’t look confident on the mound……you know like he owned it. DELGASDO was more confident it appeared from the body language. Not supremely confident, but better thn JULIO. Didn’t make much difference today though did it? Both gave up all-sacks shots.
