Kendall Marshall is said to have suffered a “fractured right wrist” v. Creighton. Marshall is most indispensable player on UNC roster
Tomahawkin, yeah, Alprozolam can put me to sleep. However, I can stay up if I am doing something. It’s just when I am home and laying down I can fall asleep quickly.
Mmmmm R. Kelly. My b it’s Canadian whiskey in the morning. The good stuff is for later in the day. But guys don’t worry, I got straight A’s and will soon be getting my Masters. See, alcohol ain’t that bad.
Damn, if Marshall can’t play (or play effectively), UNC is in some trouble moving forward. Strickland, Henson, Marshall…rough go as of late for my boys.
Listening to my muse, Nanci Griffith, with a live interview and concert via Scottish BBC. Facebook can have some wonderful links sometimes, besides the usual boring crap.
Just returned from spring training trip #1. Still have one final trip last week of camp. Saw games, bp, backfield drills etc last Wednesday, Friday, and yesterday. My impressions of the team: Simmons over the Rev, Minor #1 for now, Freeman too bulky, Uggs killin it, Heyward much better, Parrez good bat but slippery glove, Medlen needs to be starting, and Chipper didn’t look good in any fielding practice that I saw. Frank needs a SS will he go with Simmons or make a trade?
Agree all the way … Freeman is too bulky. Didn’t need to do that. He’s a natural 20 homerun hitter with his swing. He was plenty big enough. Live and learn though.
Been to 20 ST camps with the Braves at WPB and LBV and you should look forward to the last week of camp because it will make you forget about this past week.
The players start taking things a bit more seriously the last week and everyone that wont be with the team is now reassigned, barring one or two last minute decisions. The last week has less of a “practice feel” and more of a “let’s get it on feel”.
Medlen should be given the opportunity to start. He has proven he can do it at a very high level. I understand these high prospects look good on paper but they have not proven themselves and Medlen is being dumped in the pen for them. Let the best man win it and so far Medlen should be in the top 5 SP.
What an amazing career – one of the ones I would compare it to is Shirley Povich at the Washington Post, who covered Babe Ruth through the Braves ‘95 World Series…
VJ: Growing up in Marietta in the 50’s and 60’s, I had the pleasure of watching Furman Bisher as he hosted many local sports TV shows and was great at that. He was very intelligent, funny, and a good interviewer. He did all sports and had a long running show that featured AJC, TV and Radio Sports Reporters, similar to the one ESPN does, or used to do, every Sunday. He also wrote several memorable books and was an outstanding writer. He was the only sports reporter to ever talk to Shoeless Joe Jackson, shortly before he died, and that interview will make you think Shoeless Joe didn’t understand what the Black Sox scandal was about, and he really should be in the HOF. IMHO.
Soph – incredible game and incredible atmosphere at the Coliseum today. Heels looked very good. Creighton seemed borderline dirty – seemed to be going after Henson’s wrist and the cheap shot on Zeller (check out Jay Bilas’s twitter).
At least it is his right wrist but it will be hard to handle the ball. Stillman White is obviously not a starting PG and he will need rest if Marshall cannot play. Who will handle the ball? Barnes? Bullock? PJ?
Hugo and VJ: Nanci Griffith has a great new album “Intersection” and is touring. She has recovered from a bout with the big “C” and feels and sounds great. One of the best songs on the new album is “Hell No (I’m Not Alright)” (it’s not about her illness) and it’s funny and unlike about anything she has ever done.
Huge question. Can the Braves wino 90 games with Bourn for one year? Can the Braves win 90 games for multiple years with what Bourn would reap in a trade return?
I didn’t grow up around Atlanta, instead it was South Georgia (Greg Walker and I were classmates), but I’ve read some of Furman Bisher’s work and really enjoyed it. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. RIP.
Huge question. Can the Braves wino 90 games with Bourn for one year? Can the Braves win 90 games for multiple years with what Bourn would reap in a trade return?
Really? Bourn is the make-or-break piece on this team? We are not talking a defensive player like Andruw Jones in his prime. And for base-stealing, the Braves have had some good ones–Nixon being the obvious choice. But his capabilities on the base did not ultimately shape the Braves’ season.
Billy: I agree with you again. I would love to see us trade Bourn before the end of the year, I think we could get a bounty for him to a team that could sign him.
One of my favorite times of the year was opening the AJC on Thanksgiving morning and reading Furman Bisher’s column that day. It was called “I’m Thankful” and he always summed up the year in sports in wonderful ways, plus reflecting on the important things and even little things in our everyday lives. He will be greatly missed. I bet Journalist Jimmy Smith is shedding a tear or two right now.
