Lew, what, my butt? But you’re right – some bloggers think they have all the answers when we only know maybe a single layer of what goes on behind the scenes.
“Man, I can’t wait to get back to good ol’ Georgia, so I can head to the Atlanta Braves, this upcoming season. I also gotta head back to a Gwinnett Braves game, since I don’t live too far from them.”
If You are going to be in the area (Gwinnett County) we need to kick it? Nuff Respect…and All Shots/drinks will be on me!
I live in Loganville Now, but get at me if u are around?
In The ATL, the game is on 680 The Fan. I’ve been working in my yard all weekend and I’m one tired dude. The Walking Dead finale tonight, Southland later this week…Shameless probably ends soon too, but some good shows coming back like Mad Men with the delicious Christina Hendricks.
Thanks for the new goods. And Van Morrison is good anytime, especially on Sunday,(still remember and smile when you included another favorite, “Cleaning Windows”, on the blog a while back).
Early in the year, most teams need someone to hold the game between the 4-5 innings of a starter (not yet completely ready to deliver six or seven innings) and the end of the bullpen. I think Medlen is one of our best starters, but he can also fill the early season need to fill the holes and give the team a hold for 3 or 4 innings.
There are also a lot of reliability and youth issues with our starters, but no one with the Braves is going to jinx anyone by discussing them. Medlen is also possible to fill in their as well.
The Braves don’t always talk about their plans but remember that Medlen has delivered in the past, and the Braves know it. They have a valuable asset in Medlen and they will use him.
Speaking of “The Man”, a couple of years back I attended one of his concerts here in Atlanta. Of course, there were musicians scattered about all over the stage–including a large horn section–all cool and setting the mood, passing solos around while waiting for Van to enter. Thing was, he was already there–with sax in hand, blowing a solo–before stepping out of the horn section and up to the mike to sing Moondance, thus completing one of the coolest entrances I’ve ever seen a singer make.
haggard: how are you today? Do you remember when bands like Jethro Tull and Dr. Hook were their own opening acts? They would dress and play totally different music as an opening act, and most people didn’t realize they were they same band as the headliner. I bet the bands got a big kick out of that. Of course Parliment-Funkadelic were the best at that, playing their whole career as two very different bandsr and styles of music, but were actually made up of the same people.
I’ll be headed down to Macon this week for grub at the H & H and a look at where the new “pointyball”,(in honor of noleee) stadium is being built there on the old campus. I’ll e-mail pics for you and Kathy. Plus, did you see Widespread Panic’s show on Austin City Limits last night? There name reminds me of the blog at certain times !
Lew, no, that was a real band and not very good, either. They had a cult following. Sometimes Ian Anderson would open with just himself in disguise and singing in a completely different style. Speaking of Tull, I looked them up recently and they have continually released albums for over 40 years. I haven’t bought one of their albums since the late 70’s, so I wonder how all of those other albums sound? They put out a Christmas album a couple of years ago, that sounds interesting.
A Cult Following? Well, Alex apparently died a few years after the show. Must have been the Kool Aid. Maybe he took his cult with him. They had no musical taste anyway.
DOB, I’m betting if Meds played for probably 28 other ML teams he would be a lock for the rotation and would be the ACE for some teams. If I were him and they stuck me in the Pen I would request to be traded
Afternoon. And I know what you mean about the yard work as I’ve been doing plenty myself. In fact, I’m journeying to the hardware store in a few to rent a large aerator for tomorrow.
And, yes. I remember seeing Dr. Hook do that very thing during a visit at the old Southeast Music Hall.
Remember the bluegrass stalwarts Hot Rize and their mid-concert act Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers?
Sounds stupid and maybe I’m just sleep deprived, but them choosing to wear their white regular jerseys during spring could be helping them in the regular season. Get them used to the colors opposed to the blue practices.
I’m not exactly sure how to explain it othernthan just being beyond the OF wall of the baseball stadium and between it and Mercer Univ. drive. Part of it is where some a frame looking apartments once stood. Near old Porter Stadium beside what is now I-75.
ken – Email me lewhartman@comcast.net and I’ll get details to send you some of the newer stuff – not much really new since 2000, but lots since the 70’s I could burn for you.
They released their first album This Was in 1968 – a blues album with Mick Abrahams (Blodwyn Pig for you old timers) on guitar. Anderson decided they wanted to expand from a blues band and enlisted Martin Barre on guitar. They’ve been on every album together since 1969’s Stand Up, though the other performers have changed through the years.
I saw them twice at the Macon Coliseum – the Thick As A Brick/Aqualung tour and also the War Child Tour where they debuted the song Minstrel in the Gallery.
Got to meet the band in the late 80’s on the Rock Island Tour and Anderson signed a painting, which was auctioned off to benefit the Tampa Children’s Home and then again in 97 on the Roots to Branches Tour. Last time was in 2001 right before we m0ved to Vermont at a classy little venue in Clearwater where they played with no opening act.
haggard: I was at that Dr. Hook show at the Music Hall, what a great venue. Don’t remember Hot Rize, but how about Darryl Rhoades and the Hahavishnu Orchestra…they could play just about anything.

That’s two ugly errors on Parraz in the outfield in three days. Made one in the Friday night game at CF warning track.
