I just want the majority of our hitters to come close to their career norms, while Heyward figures things out.

Pastor/mons? Just field your position well and give us a 250/300 line and I’ll be OK with that.

Now, if Chipper hits like he did last year, that’s be a huge plus. But if he doesn’t, we’re going to need somebody unexpected to step up.

DIAZ

SIMMONS – assigned to AAA?

DURANGO – takes STEF GARTRELL’s slot in AAA

SHAD and it’s roe can now only be harvested by the various Indian tribes scattered through the eastern parts of Virginia. The ban is allowing the fish population to slowly return after teetering on the brink of extinction. One of my earliest memories was of myself standing on the backseat of the family’s ‘46 Plymouth. My father walked in the rain down into a fairly deep narrow river valley to purchase SHAD roe in a gallion jar. Either the NOTTOWAY or MEHERRIN rivers, don’t know which, but at four years old it seemed a mile deep. Long wooden benches arranged along near the river bank, and seine nets strung across the river which at that point was about 20/30 yards wide I guess.
I remember how he would fry them in bacon grease in an old Griswold “12″ skillet, then fry the eggs afterward. He always did the cooking on Sundays to allow my mother a day off from that chore.

Of course he was big on brains and eggs too. Ugh! Kidneys etc. Chicken liver, gizzard and hearts are the only organ meats I’ll touch now. And I’m the only one left in the house that will eat them.

To tell you the truth, I can’t even understand why the Nats ticketed Harper for AAA. Not like he owned AA in his short stay there. Seems logical to have seen if he were going to be a man among boys in the Eastern League first. What do they do if some of those former ML pitchers and elite prospects at AAA start slicing and dicing the guy?

richbrave,I don’t see Sutton not beating out Wilson. Are two camps developing–the Rev/Wilson crowd and the Simmons/Sutton camp? I’m in the latter. Sutton has been the best of the whole group.

Observation: to those who say “so and so is untouchable,” wouldn’t you agree Tehran’s stock and trade value are down after his spring? No such thing as can’t miss. He will probably turn out great, but there is a chance we missed the top of his market.

Anders

It sure is a sunny day for my Mets in this otherwise overcast and foggy motning here in NY. Madoff in the rear view mirror – finally. Yes, there is that $162 mil to pay but that’s a fraction of what could have been and that number may be off set by claw back the Mets are due. Plus that’s 3 years away. All MLB loans are now paid back in full and 12 new partners are in the tent (many from within to be fair).
Time to refocus on the big club. That’s not going to be pretty but so be it. I’ve always enjoyed the climd. I don’t need instant gratification like my cross town rivals.

So how’s it going for my Braves fans friends these days? I’ve been locked in on hockey and haven’t really been following all that much baseball this spring.

richbrave

March 20th, 2012

old man:

And that was my observation. If SUTTON beats out WILSON what do they do with “Jumpin’ JACK”? If he’s traded, or otherwise gone to another club, who plays SS in GWINNETT with HICKS gone?

All that aside, I really can’t see the BRAVES having a brand new organization guy with extensive AAA experience to back up the REV. Even though a short while, WILSON is a ML vet. SUTTON isn’t.

ncscoots

March 20th, 2012

wouldn’t you agree Tehran’s stock and trade value are down after his spring?

I would not. :-)

Focusing on the big flies he’s given up might give you that impression, I guess. But he’s never had a problem with that in the minors, and I think you can safely say this spring has been an aberration, in that sense.

It still all goes back to command, for both Teheran and Delgado. You might get away with using half the plate in the bushes, but you gotta work thirds in the bigs. But, even with that current lack, either of those guys could probably come in and put up a fifth-starter ERA of 4 or so. and they would only get better from there.

I don’t think a mediocre ST at age 21 is enough to disgrace three or four years of minor league excellence, for either kid.

richbrave- I know. I’m just messing around. The Mets would consider .500 a great year. As for the division being tough top to bottom, or at least close to the bottom, I also see potential for some unexpected bumps in the road. The Phils have major health issues on the right side of the infield which also falls into the heart of their batting order. The Fish have the potential for a “One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest” scenario down their in South Beach. I mean, talk about potential for combustion – and not the good kind. The Nats still have a lot to learn about winning. That leaves it open for your guys if they can recover from their own collapse. We’ll see if they can bounce back and if those young arms rebound too.

Richbrave,

Regarding your 8:38 bench speculations: If neither Costanza or Durango make the club, then Parraz is your CF if something happens to Bourn. I realize that help would only be call-up away, but that would make for an interesting game or two, depending on where Gwinett happened to be playing. Seems sub-optimal to me.
