Norfolk State, lets go Spartans. For those here in Ga, if Norfolk State beats Missouri would be the equivalent of a Mercer, Morehouse State or a KSU beating Missouri. Lets go home town Tidewater, Va.. lets go Spartans.
Simmons is Another Gonzo…but I don’t think he will try to hit the ball to I-20 as the season progresses (In other words he will cut down on his swing as the season goes on)
“Simmons is Another Gonzo…but I don’t think he will try to hit the ball to I-20 as the season progresses (In other words he will cut down on his swing as the season goes on) ”
Simmons has better plate discipline and less power than Gonzo. Doesn’t SO much but not many HRs.
Bobby Cox could have a relaxed clubhouse because he knew how to manage that way. Not that Fredi can’t manage (cough cough), but his laid back approach cost the Braves wild-card last season and you can see what it’s doing already this spring. Guys don’t feel threatened to lose their starting role as if in NY or Boston where they make moves without thinking about it.
I say let the Braves lose this year. We actually need it because fans expect that average baseball each season in Atlanta and maybe we will appreciate it next time we are winners again. Which will be 2013 when Francona is new manager. I’m ready for it. Who is with me?
Is It too early to call “Ballgame?” I need to grill
but on the real tip…Big Red needs no get better at being more efficient with his pitch counts as opposed to being infactuated with the K which leads to him having thrown 100 pitches by the 5th inning
Marv Albert killing me with his uncomfortable mispronouciation of Norfolk. Dude its pronounced Norfick. Its not NO FOLK. Hampton, Richmond 2 other 15 seed teams knocking off a 2 seed.
“Simmons has better plate discipline and less power than Gonzo. Doesn’t SO much but not many HRs.”
I’m not worried abt power, whoever wins the SS job will hit 8th to start the season by default, Bank on it…I agree with you in that whoever wins it, they need to at least have more productive AB’s hitting 8th than Gonzo did.
Gonzo’s 1st pitch wasted atbats last year made me want to kick the TV

Norfolk State lost to Elizabeth City State, a team who lost to District of Columbia, Barton College, USC Aiken, Shaw & Bowie St.
I was, once again, sitting and waiting to turn to come home (well actually the store to get Mega Millions tickets) and called the homer. Did that the other night with Uggla’s homer. I’m getting good at callin’ ‘em
As to DOB’s current blog. He will have to spend the whole season trying his best to make FREDI G and FRANK WREN not look to bad. That will be tough to do.
@Scott … They never said they were going to cut seconds of time out of it, just that the hitch would be gone. And it’s totally gone. It’s a big difference to me.
Va teams seeded 15th are beast. It was first Richmond, then Hampton and now Norfolk State. Go Spartans.. you killed everyone’s bracket. Now let’s go VCU tomorrow.
@GTI … I see what you mean about the hitch however the setup, the arm action, and finish look the same to me … I’m at the stadium one row behind the braves dugout so I haven’t seen the TV shots …
there is a big difference in his mechanics, he is using his lower body more and not dart throwing which is what they wanted to lessen stress on the arm
Hard to believe FRANK WREN did not make any major moves this winter, I was sure he would. You don’t just stand pat with a team that finished 9-18. The only move he made was to get rid of our SS and now a rookie will have to play the position full time, unless you think about JACK WILSON what a joke he is.
Just watching JHey in two at bats since last year has me happy because he looks really good at the plate. Last year he looked almost lifeless at the plate compared to ‘10. Now he looks back to himself. Had to have been hurting bad last year
Dob how do you feel regarding Chippers comment about you being a Little reporter after your publication on his retirement (possible retirement). If I recall this isn’t the first time that you took heat from a Braves player. Few years back Tim Hudson was pissed at you because he assumed Griffey didnt sign with Braves because you published an article too early. What is your take on all this DOB?
