There was a video on yahoo sports today speculating about several NL managers that need to win quickly this year. Freddie and Dusty Baker were the 2 being discussed in depth. I was kinda suprised but can obviously see why if the Braves came out and look very blah as they have in the spring it may not be too far out in left field Freddie gets canned. Just doesn’t sound like something the Braves would do to fire a manager early in the season. They typically don’t have knee jerk reactions like that, but you sure couldn’t say it wasn’t justifiable. But to me if that happens I don’t understand why they wouldn’t have just canned him after the collapse at the end of the year.
pat @ 3:46 pm: The Braves are to Liberty Media what a pack of chewing gum is to your total net worth. Would you commit hari-kari if you lost your pack of gum?
You can’t force nicknames, Murph. They just happen. You think O’Brien got to be The Crusading Everyman because someone sat around trying to come up with it? Huh-uh. Pure serendipity, that. Bolt from the blue, and all.
So again, just to recap: Buster Onley and Ken Rosenthal of ESPN and Fox Sports respectively are concerned about the Braves performance so far this spring but the highly credible and respected Atlanta sports media think it’s no big deal.
Do I have that right?
You know what, I’m gonna call Forbes and ask them if they can change “most miserable” to just “worst”.
Miserable is a given. I’m afraid people don’t fully appreciate how truly awful the media is in this town.
I think it’s about damn time they got the recognition they deserve for making Atlanta the worst sports city in America and by turns, Earth as a planet.
Time to button up your knickers young man and push away from the blog. I have a nice PB&J ready for you if you can keep from sticking it down your pants, you little drooling moroon.
I’m going to call Simmons “Gene” for now. I can’t spell nor pronounce Andrelton, and “Andy” just doesn’t fit. Makes me think of the crazy guy from “The Office”.
I don’t dislike FG. He’s a pretty good overall baseball man who should be coaching or teaching and not leading when when bets are down and money is on the line. He’s an organization favorite and baseball takes care of its own one way or another. What he is not and never will be is a Tony LaRussa or Jim Leyland and that is what the Braves need right now–energetic leadership with first class knowledge of the game. FG is seriously overmatched among his peers and the Braves played down to his managing last year and continue to do so this Spring. The lack of competitive $$$ resources is lamentable, but the Braves should be getting a great deal more out of what they have.
You must realize that if Frank Wren’s job is on the line he will let Fredi take the first bullet before JS puts the gun to FW’s head. Hence, we may see the Braves do something non-traditonal by Braves standards and fire Fredi by May.
With the easy April schedule, if the Braves do not show something, I think Fredi is gone. The 2011 collapse is so embarrassing to the organization and to all Braves fans as to almost be unforgiveable. To be in the same category as those choker Mets teams of the late 2000s is disgusting.
In the NAIA national basketball tourney today Shorter won and Southern Poly was defeated. Shorter is now in the final 8. Now with that said I really need Fla St to win to keep my bracket alive in the NCAA.
It seems like half of the people who believe the Braves will have a 6th place finish in a 5 team division do so because the team is poorly constructed with lousy hitters and starting pitchers who will underperform; another half think it’s all Fredi’s fault for being a bumbling moron; and the third half think it’s a combination of the two plus the ownership’s financial stinginess…I will be curious to see which is the ultimate culprit…
I keep feeling the need to remind all those who say “we are the same team as last year” that last year the Braves won 89 games- better than all but 4 NL teams.
The 2011 collapse is so embarrassing to the organization and to all Braves fans as to almost be unforgiveable.
I mean, you do know that baseball is all about failure and redemption, right? Right?
You got to let that bleep go, brother. Nursing last September like a new-born at your breast…it isn’t healthy. It’s done, history, can’t be changed. All that can happen, is in the future. You want to be unhappy over a ST record? Fine. You’re displeased with the effort in March? So be it. You think they’re doomed to mediocrity in the coming season? Perfectly entitled.

Yeah I like quotes as well and one of my favorites to hear is: The sky is falling!” uttered by many chicken little’s on this blog. I understand why so many people are pessimistic these days and weak-minded that they only see the negative side of things ALL the time. In fact another favorite quote of mine is: It’s easy to hate and difficult to love.” I like to challenge myself so I’ll continue to love this team and be positive while so many take the easy road and continue to hate.
The record is not a particular concern.
The reasons for the record ARE:
Chiper has 1 single so far and in and out of line up with sore knees. — It might not be a question of whether he plays 120 games or not, but what he is capable of doing in those 120 games
Heyward looked good on TV Wed., but then does not follow it up. Will his struggles continue?
Freeman has not shown up yet. Will he?
Can Simmons jump all the way from A+ to MLB and be productive?
Will JJ start pitching as well as he says he feels?
Then there is the Hanson set back, Hudson not yet ready to pitch until May and Beachy’s wildness.
Vizcaino’s elbow is a big concern, and none of the BP pitchers not named Kimbrel, Venters, EOF, and Medlen showing that they are ready to take a load off the guys at the back end.
Lemke’s Knuckler, that is some mighty fine BBQ at Fort Mills BBQ. I live just over the boarder in South Charlotte from you. I am enjoying NC and SC, as they both beat Atlanta.
Glad you have moved on and your right the players don’t owe anyone an apology. I’m not quite so sure the monkey is off the players back though. If they start well out the gate I would say it’s all behind them but if they falter in April, there’s not a sportswriter in the nation that won’t tie in the Sept. collapse with their bad start. And it was embarrassing I believe to the players. About as bad as it gets in sports. Thank goodness the Red Sox and being in a smaller market took most of the heat away from what happened to the Braves.
I was merely speaking for myself. It was not an indication of how I think they will play, or if they were embarrassed or not…just my thoughts, in response to a comment about how “all braves fans” were feeling.
Steady as she goes. What’s a new manager of a WS winner to do? Start crying “the skies falling?” Seems to me they lost a pitcher last season too, and he came back and dominated. I’m surprised at all the folks siding with ‘OB over the Chipper situation. Must be at least 15 comments now with some sort of blame for Chipper. I’ve seen none with blame for ‘OB? Gee, I wonder why… And, this with him apparently getting the information second hand…
How ’bout nobody was in the wrong. Chipper said what he said, with his usual hyperbole or sarcasm or sideways grin, ‘OB ran with it, and Chipper walked it back. No harm, no foul. This is why athletes are all cliche, all the time, nowadays. A guy tries to say anything of substance, and the entire Interweb is ready to say the opposite.
I’m glad Chipper speaks his mind; I’m glad ‘OB is “overreaching” to bring us what he can. Why do we need to find fault?
Instead of stressing over the Braves in ST, why aren’t we upset over the really important matters: Rihanna is back with Chris Brown, “Luck” got cancelled because they killed off all of the horses, Fleetwood Mac is not going to tour this year, no one is safe on “The Walking Dead”, and who got voted off of Idol last night???

I see no difference in Hanson. His arm looks the same as always when he throws.

There’s a whole lot o’ red on my bracket… last place.
I figured I’d let y’all win at something, you know, since I joined the fantasy baseball league and all. And I’m going to run away with that. So… yeah.
No. Actually, I just suck at picking tournament brackets. Oh well. Go LOBOS!!!!
See y’all on Monday.

Come On Man…Don’t Overreat…For him its all about building endurance not striking everyone out…We Need Big Red to Be Economical with his pitches…instead of having 100 pitches by the 5th inning as a result of being infactuated with the K

I feel the same way! The S. Training Game Schedule is 2X worse than the NFL preseason, especially against multiple games against the DisAstros…! But it beats the hell out of basketball and especially the NBA
