Don’t know if anyone posted it already, but this is a fantastic read on Chipper. It is a bit lengthy, but well worth the time.

I think it’s premature for Fredi to make such a statement about Medlen, but not surprised by it.

Lew, Its one of those potential moves IF Wren pulls the trigger if it works its brilliant. If it appears for this year that it is not working, then it will be deemed a horrible decision. And then we have those on here no matter what, it will be a horrible move. I swear some would criticize the move if Wren got Halliday, Lee, Howard in return for JJ alone. My thing is IF Wren can get a significant piece for JJ then yeah. I think that is going to be the deciding factor.

I think Jurrjens will be traded at some point. Depending on how well the young guys are doing and such. Hudson is coming back at some point as well. Medlen has made a case to be in the rotation as well. Looking into the future the Braves have a 9 million option for Huddy and Jurrjens will be due a raise, one will not be on this team in 2013.
March 18th, 201212:06 pm
Ray – Well, if the Braves’front office were to come here and ask for our opinion, then they’d be And Idiots, wouldn’t they.
March 18th, 201212:11 pm
Guess that means we shouldn’t discuss anything then
March 18th, 201212:12 pm
I understand that homer-less people live in the tents back of RF fence. I don’t think it is very nice of the BRAVES to make CHIPPER and other players that have not hit a HR live in tents with Chief Knockahoma or did they leave him in WEST PLAM BEACH.
March 18th, 201212:13 pm
The Braves going forward are gonna have a lot of free’d up money after the season. We will have 24 million (before raises) for sure. Decisions with Chipper and how to handle our loaded pitching could possibly free up another 20 million.

Lew,, that may be one of the most intelligent posts that has ever been placed on any of the blogs.
March 18th, 201212:19 pm
Good read Brava, thank you
March 18th, 201212:23 pm
It does seem odd if Teheran or Delgado, if they keep pitching like they have in spring, would get chosen over Medlen. Medlen has shown more in big leagues than either and what he did yesterday was starter maaterial. I’d go Meds for sure.
March 18th, 201212:25 pm
Morning Cab, you’re looking lovely on this fine Sunday morn.
March 18th, 201212:33 pm
why thank you! Hope you are well
March 18th, 201212:35 pm
Medlen needs to be in the ‘pen in order to help out the big three relievers. Why is that so hard to understand? Those guys can’t pitch every day like they did last year, or they will be dead by August.
March 18th, 201212:36 pm
jeffrey d – How do you interpret it like that? What I meant was that first of all, they don’t need the Peanut Gallery’s opinion to make decisions and second, half the post here are completely idiotic or deal with music, Oysters, BBQ or travel suggestions.
March 18th, 201212:38 pm
Of course if Wren is interested in where to eat this evening …………
March 18th, 201212:41 pm
njbraves – I don’t know, maybe because they will have Varvaro for a full season this time around and he can go multiple inngs, they have Asencio with no more options, Guerrin getting closer and Moylan waiting in the wings for some relief later in the year……….What part of we’re deeper this time around do YOU not understand?
March 18th, 201212:50 pm
We also have Martinez, who is a great long relief pitcher. I just think Fredi should keep himself open to putting the best pitchers available in the rotation. So far, Medlen has out-pitched some of the other candidates. Of course, that could change.
If Medlen can take a rotation spot and flourish I’m all for it. It gives us more trade option with other starters and the ability to free up payroll and add prospects. Mainly talking about Jurrjens. Just about all of our starters are under team control for the 2013 season and beyond.
Hanson, Jurrjens, Beachy, Minor, Delgado, Teheran, Medlen, Hudson (Option for 2013), Gilmartin (could be ready at some point in 2013)

Brava, thanks for sharing that article. Great read on Chipper.
Chipper and I are about the same age (I’m 6 months older), and we both grew up in Florida. He was a year behind me in school years because I started when I was not quite 5, but I know the kind of childhood he would have had down there. In many ways in the 70s and 80s, Florida, outside of Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and Tallahassee, was very much small town. We would have had somewhat similar childhoods.
When he came up in 1995, he was a joy to watch. Sure, in the ensuing years, he had his youthful indiscretions and made some bad decisions. But he stepped up and took responsibility for those, and has matured a lot. It’s good to see.
March 18th, 201212:53 pm
You’re welcome, George and bravesgrl4life.
March 18th, 201212:54 pm
Yeah Lew, The Braves would be in much deeper trouble if anyone in the front office, dugout or scouting dept came on here to look for ideas and suggested moves.
March 18th, 20121:03 pm
Anybody know what channel the Braves game is on DirecTV?
I’m not getting the game on CSS. WTF? They are showing Florida and Vanderbilt.
March 18th, 20121:05 pm
Well, that just ruined my day.
March 18th, 20121:06 pm
BRAVES do seem to be looking better, but is it only a tease to give us false hope?
March 18th, 20121:07 pm
Nick.. is CSS even on DirecTV anymore?
March 18th, 20121:08 pm
Kat – it was last season.
March 18th, 20121:10 pm
Nice inning for Minor, despite the double…
March 18th, 20121:12 pm
MLB Gameday has Chipper plaing 1b and Freeman 3b…
March 18th, 20121:14 pm
Okay, if you have Comcast, it’s channel 805.
If you’re not a basketball fan you should watch a few of the games this tournament because you may become one. Some amazing games this year, and this NC State/Georgetown game is no different as NC State leads at the half.
March 18th, 20121:15 pm
whoops.. double post.

Do you think there is a chance the both Jordan Parraz and Luis Durango make the team with Matty Diaz being the odd man out? — VaBravesFan
I think Parraz OR Durango could make the team, but not both. No, I don’t see Diaz getting dropped.
March 18th, 20122:23 pm
Minor’s line: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. He’s pitched 14 scoreless innings in 4 starts, allowed 7 H, 5 BB with 10 K

Furman was as friendly and kind a man as he was a great writer, and that’s saying quite a lot. A country boy from North Carolina who became a giant of our industry.

Braves lineup: Simmons SS, Heyward RF, McCann C, Uggla 2B, Freeman 1B, Hinske LF, Terdoslavich 3B, Constanza CF, Delgado RH
March 19th, 201210:12 am
Wow… with the exception of Hinske in LF, there’s your 2013 Atlanta Braves’ starting lineup.

This is great! An associate shared this with me this morning on Facebook. Impressive.

In the 1980s there was an AL Team that made five attempts to win a spring training record. This team continued to lose spring training games–often by blowout scores. They had the worst record in the AL, 11-18 and the third worst overall and the second worst in the Grapefruit League. They ended spring training with a three game losing streak–maybe a four game losing streak. As a fan of this team I was pretty distraught because I had expected them to win the AL East, even though “experts” were picking this team to finish fourth or fifth. Well this team got out of the gate in the regular season with a 9-0 start and won 35 of their first 40 games. Obviously at 11-18 spring did not hurt the 1984 World Champion Detroit Tigers. Ha! You’re probably too young to remember that.
