Don’t know if anyone posted it already, but this is a fantastic read on Chipper. It is a bit lengthy, but well worth the time.

Lew, Its one of those potential moves IF Wren pulls the trigger if it works its brilliant. If it appears for this year that it is not working, then it will be deemed a horrible decision. And then we have those on here no matter what, it will be a horrible move. I swear some would criticize the move if Wren got Halliday, Lee, Howard in return for JJ alone. My thing is IF Wren can get a significant piece for JJ then yeah. I think that is going to be the deciding factor.

I think Jurrjens will be traded at some point. Depending on how well the young guys are doing and such. Hudson is coming back at some point as well. Medlen has made a case to be in the rotation as well. Looking into the future the Braves have a 9 million option for Huddy and Jurrjens will be due a raise, one will not be on this team in 2013.

I understand that homer-less people live in the tents back of RF fence. I don’t think it is very nice of the BRAVES to make CHIPPER and other players that have not hit a HR live in tents with Chief Knockahoma or did they leave him in WEST PLAM BEACH.

The Braves going forward are gonna have a lot of free’d up money after the season. We will have 24 million (before raises) for sure. Decisions with Chipper and how to handle our loaded pitching could possibly free up another 20 million.

It does seem odd if Teheran or Delgado, if they keep pitching like they have in spring, would get chosen over Medlen. Medlen has shown more in big leagues than either and what he did yesterday was starter maaterial. I’d go Meds for sure.

Medlen needs to be in the ‘pen in order to help out the big three relievers. Why is that so hard to understand? Those guys can’t pitch every day like they did last year, or they will be dead by August.

njbraves – I don’t know, maybe because they will have Varvaro for a full season this time around and he can go multiple inngs, they have Asencio with no more options, Guerrin getting closer and Moylan waiting in the wings for some relief later in the year……….What part of we’re deeper this time around do YOU not understand?

We also have Martinez, who is a great long relief pitcher. I just think Fredi should keep himself open to putting the best pitchers available in the rotation. So far, Medlen has out-pitched some of the other candidates. Of course, that could change.

If Medlen can take a rotation spot and flourish I’m all for it. It gives us more trade option with other starters and the ability to free up payroll and add prospects. Mainly talking about Jurrjens. Just about all of our starters are under team control for the 2013 season and beyond.
Hanson, Jurrjens, Beachy, Minor, Delgado, Teheran, Medlen, Hudson (Option for 2013), Gilmartin (could be ready at some point in 2013)

Chipper and I are about the same age (I’m 6 months older), and we both grew up in Florida. He was a year behind me in school years because I started when I was not quite 5, but I know the kind of childhood he would have had down there. In many ways in the 70s and 80s, Florida, outside of Tampa, Orlando, Miami, and Tallahassee, was very much small town. We would have had somewhat similar childhoods.
When he came up in 1995, he was a joy to watch. Sure, in the ensuing years, he had his youthful indiscretions and made some bad decisions. But he stepped up and took responsibility for those, and has matured a lot. It’s good to see.

In the 1980s there was an AL Team that made five attempts to win a spring training record. This team continued to lose spring training games–often by blowout scores. They had the worst record in the AL, 11-18 and the third worst overall and the second worst in the Grapefruit League. They ended spring training with a three game losing streak–maybe a four game losing streak. As a fan of this team I was pretty distraught because I had expected them to win the AL East, even though “experts” were picking this team to finish fourth or fifth. Well this team got out of the gate in the regular season with a 9-0 start and won 35 of their first 40 games. Obviously at 11-18 spring did not hurt the 1984 World Champion Detroit Tigers. Ha! You’re probably too young to remember that.
