hmm. Chipper came to ST 10 or so pounds less than usual, but this year he is fat all of a sudden?

Who do the Braves lose to today? Er … I mean play today?

I had a friend who used to say, “Fall behind early. That way, you’ve got plenty of time to catch up.”

If the Braves are truly playing as awfully as “people” seem to think, they’ve got time to fix it. Better than play well and collapse in September.

Just because these guys aren’t hitting in ST doesn’t mean it will translate to the regular season. There are too many good players on this team, they may not look like it right now but it will get better…please believe me.

monty – NO, we didn’t make the playoffs. We missed by a single game. We must have been complete morons for being optimistic enough to believe the Braves could have won twelve games in September instead of ten.

Lew

George – No one has recovered from anything until they start to play the regular season and show what they’re made of.

As has been mentioned here once or twice over the past week – on Day One of the regular season, everyone’s record starts at 0-0.

And, what exactly is the problem?

Braves are built to win with pitching. Even if all the “ifs” end up as “yes’s”, Braves aren’t likely to score more than 4.5 runs per game. I’d say 4 runs per game would be loverly.

Questions on the pitching … so far …
Hudson … back … when will he back? will he be the same pitcher? better? worse?
Jurrjens … knee … did his nu shooz fix the problem? was his 2009 and first half of 2011 a fluke?
Hanson … shoulder, new delivery, concussion … will he be ready for opening day? will his shoulder blow up during the season?
Beachy … one year wonder? or legitimate ml pitcher?
Minor … can the polished college lefty be a legitimate starter in the ml?

Medlen … is his 13-3 (or whatever) record a fluke? how does this guy keep winning?
Delgado … is he really a top prospect?
Teheran … is he really a top prospect?
Vizcaino … how much longer will he put off TJ surgery?

Lowe … Cleveland doesn’t have a give-back program?
Kawakami … He’s not our problem either, right?

On the offense …
1. Bourn … doing OK so far
2. Prado … tearing it up
3. Chipper … filing retirement papers? will he play 20 games? will he play well despite the pain?
4. McCann … not hitting much in ST? is he done?
5. Uggla … doing OK, where’s the power?
6. Freeman … knee injury, a weak behind everyone, sophomore slump emerging?
7. Heyward … new swing, injury free? how long will it take to get his muscle memory fixed?
8. Pastornicky … yikes! no hitting, no defense (bring on Wilson or Simmons)

Bench
1. Diaz … yikes!
2. Hinske … at least he’s hitting for power

And there’s the biggest rub so far … where’s the power? Tigers hit more bombs in one inning of one game than Braves have hit extra base hits.

War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again, y’all
War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
Ohhh, war, I despise
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives
War means tears
To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives
I said, war, huh
Good God, y’all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain’t nothing
But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, war
It’s an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die
Aaaaah, war-huh
Good God y’all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
War, huh
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again y’all
War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain’t nothing but a heartbreaker
War, it’s got one friend
That’s the undertaker
Ooooh, war, has shattered
Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can’t give life
It can only take it away
Ooooh, war, huh
Good God y’all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain’t nothing but a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there’s got to be a better way
Ooooooh, war, huh
Good God y’all
What is it good for
You tell me
Say it, say it, say it, say it
War, huh
Good God y’all
What is it good for
Stand up and shout it
Nothing

I never said anyone was a moron for thinking we could make the playoffs. Obviously if you had to bet you would have bet that they would. But my point was all the optimist(and I hesitate to even use that word because it doesn’t really take an optimist to believe that your team won’t win more than 10 games out of their last 30, but I used it so I’ll stick with it) thinking won’t help your team win and all the pessimistic thinking won’t hurt them. Personally, I believed we wouldn’t make the playoffs when Kimbrell blew the save against St. Louis, but that’s beside the point. People are right (in my view) to be concerned about this ST. I realize everyone starts even at the gun but to not be concerned now is IMO just like being unconcerned last Sept. Maybe we win big in April, we can hope for the best, but realistically I wouldn’t bet on it, not based upon ST, would you?

Monty – I don’t know, but I think I’ll take my chances that the Braves are better in a month then they are after their starting pitchers having pitched 8 innings (or less), their hitters hit more than 10-30 at bats and half their team being comprised of minor league players not likely to see the ML roster this year and not playing two games a day with half of their regular team playing in each.

Murph

Yeah, I mean, c’mon! Look around Braves fans! Same old problems, just a different month.

Example 1: starting pitchers can’t get past the 2nd or 3rd inning! It’s ridiculous! Fredi’s going to have an overworked pen by mid-May at this rate. C’mon!

Huh? What’s that? Starters… limited innings…

Oh.

Well, still… I mean… c’mon!

Ask me April 2. Anything sooner, and one would be relying on faulty data.

Not that such a thing stops anyone here, LOL. Me, I haven’t seen a single AB or pitch this spring, and I don’t know that anyone here has seen much more. I haven’t seen what players are working on, what they need to work on, or anything in-between. How can I be concerned about a meaningless ST win-loss record when I haven’t seen any of the stuff that actually is meaningful?

Frankly, if one thinks these guys are bust, to start with, this ST start just feeds one’s confirmation bias. But If one thinks the players actually are who they have been in the past, then the thought of ST scoreboard watching brings a chuckle, but not much else.
