Hello everyone! I think most likely The Rev. will get the job. We should wait ,and see what he can do in April, when the season starts. At least give the Rev. a shot, but if he fails, than bring in Simmons. At least give the Rev. a shot for April. That way we could say he had a chance.I’m not giving up Rev. Yet.
‘Thank you for this kind of weblog. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this kind of blog into something thats eye opening and important. You clearly know so much about the subject, youve covered so a lot of bases. Great stuff from this part of the internet. Again, thank you for this kind of blog.”
My thinking is Simmons is doiong what most youngsters do in Spring Training. He will knock the cover off the ball, and play good “D”,then when playing in regular season he will get into a slump, and start pulling every thing. Let Simmons develope, and then bring him up. Let’s see what the Rev. can do first, and then make decision later.
I hope Chipper can play through this year?If he can’t he had one heck of a run,and will be a HOF for sure. A favorite player of mine, and I hope he can go out with class.
Minor, pitched very well again, and it looks like he’s going to win the job.Only Minor could lose himself. Hope Minor gets the job….. All have a good one!”Go!!!!! Braves!!!!!”Peace……….
I will indeed be very sad when Chipper retires, but perhaps I overstated it a bit in the tenor of all the sky is falling comments that have swamped the blog lately
I think frank wren should be fired and take his big salary and get a good player
So Frank Wren should be fired and then he should use alllll the extra money to find that “good player” who’s just waiting around? After he’s been fired from being GM?
the braves have went down hill ever since he took over.He sucks
He took a sinking ship and turned it into a winner with a strong foundation all while being under financial constraints. I can get why some people have beef with Fredi, but I haven’t really gotten all the ire for Wren.
For those who might’ve wondered, I did some crunching and figured out that Chipper could go 100-for-450 (.222) and still be at exactly .300 for his career batting average. It’s .304 now. The .400 OBP also appears safe (he’s at .402 now).
Looking at Drew Sutton. .862 OPS at Columbus in 2010 and .858 OPS at Pawtucket last year. Very consistent in minors. A+ ball, .779 OPS; AA ball, .839 OPS; AAA ball, .805 OPS. Then 31 games with Boston last year with .315 BA and .807 OPS.
How has he looked at SS? Not as good as Simmons I suppose. Better than Pastor?
I sure hope we give him a chance to surprise everyone. He always seems to translate to the next level with little or no drop off. Seriously, if we end up with a .300 BA and .800 OPS from our SS, that would be wonderful.
Would appreciate some feedback from the superstars on this board. What am I overlooking here? Only that letting this happen would make the FO look stupid for hyping Pastor?
old man, I actually have brought up the point about Sutton and using him for a month or two to give Rev and Simmons some more experience in minors. I would be very interested to hear from DOB as to whether that might be a consideration by the Braves.
Yes, but what if after one month Sutton is batting .321 with a .811 OPS? At that point, I don’t care what Simmons or Rev are doing at AA or AAA. Don’t look a gift SS in the mouth, right?
How has he looked at SS? Not as good as Simmons I suppose. Better than Pastor? — old man
Sutton has played a good/average defensive shortstop when he’s been in. Not bad at all. Pastornicky’s made better plays at the glove end, but some throws to 1st have been spotty. Twice yesterday he made real nice plays with glove, then bounced throws to 1st (Freeman snagged both).
Nice that Pastornicky can field but the throws to first count, huh? I’m pretty excited about Simmons. Ideally, both Pastornicky and Simmons would log more time in the bushes, but…
Bat, overall very well. She had a breast cancer scare when she took a mammogram but place disappeared on a followup six months later. Thanks for asking.
Lew,thanks. Even the doctor didn’t understand the disappearance, we have our thoughts as to why. Nothing ever bothers her, bravest lady I have ever met.
CB – Same with my son. They removed his toe and that’s been it – no other sign of cancer in his last scan. Strange, but if you can survive cancer by losing a toe and not even going through chemo or radiation, you done good.
I was wondering how to go about that…the past 2 years we’ve gotten guys that’ll sign up and then leave. I guess I was hoping a solution would come to me
Contrary to Chipper’s own comments I think the Braves have a much better shot at winning when he’s in the lineup but I would like to see CHipper lead by example in being more patient at the plate(working the count). Last year his walk to plate appearance ratio was at an all-time low. Roughly a 1-10 ratio. HIstorically it’s been around 1-6. Chipper is most dangerous when he can set the pitcher up and get the pitch he’s looking for. Way to many 1st and 2 pitch swings last year.
Ask for those who are serious about playing on the blog. A lot of good people here who would probably stay long term if you invite them. Emphasize the serious and long term part.
Just finished skimming the over-nights. Ward was the voice of reason!
Glad that Bethancourt got the bomb to give the Braves the tie. Hopefully the losing streak in spring will keep the Braves from having a losing streak during the season.
