2.36 runs per game in their 11 losses – absolutely pathetic.

As for Chipper? I would rather defer the $14 million over the next 14 years than steal money this season for doing absolutely nothing. Thanks to him, the Braves will be competing with the Mets for last place.

Frankly, I am over Chipper Jones. Don’t give a freakin’ damn about the guy, because he surely does not give a whit about the Braves.

http://firebrandal.com/2012/03/13/does-spring-training-matter/

“One of the biggest dangers in analyzing baseball statistics is sample size. Our society is one that tends to overreact to things too quickly. Jeremy Lin played two weeks of great basketball and suddenly he was a national phenomenon. Jeff Francouer raked the ball for the first two weeks of his career in the big leagues; suddenly he was the next Chipper Jones. Ryan Lavarnway hit two home runs in four at bats; suddenly he was batting fifth on the last day of the season with the Red Sox playing for their season.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’ ridiculous that people have to be reminded of this every year. I have no problem being condescending or being called condescending, especially when people deserve it.

Minor is proving that he not only belings in the Majors but is capable of being a number 2 starter for the team. Before the spring training started he was upset that he would have to compete aganist Teheran and Delgado for the 5th spot. I think Minor had every right to ask for a trade if he didn’t get a starting position with our ballclub. The guy has been amazing this spring and was great last year during the 2nd half of the season. In fact after Hudson He was our go to guy.

I think mentioning Teheran/Delgado in the same sentence with Minor should be seen as an insult from now onwards

It doesn’t seem like Heyward will get it togeather. I am okay with putting Durango in place of him and Contanza for Prado, when Prado plays 3B for Chipper. Speed can perhaps generate us some runs.
I don’t see why we couldn’t afford Cody Ross just in case Prado had to play 3b for Chipper.
He was cheap and yet the managment couldn’t even Cody Ross?
With Chipper down and Prado shifting to 3B and Heyward struggling Who are our OF options?
Hinske? Diaz? Durango? Conztanza?

Do you know him personally? A guy who re-structures his deal a couple of times to help the organization get more talent and who has played through injuries? Chipper could have left to DH a couple of years ago and might have been able to get more than $14 million after winning the batting title.

CHIPPER in MHO is the greatest ATLANTA BRAVE position player, That haveing been said, if he can not play somewhere close to his high standerds he should retire now. I would hate to see him stuggle this year and end his career hitting in the low .200s. Rosenthal and FOX seem to be under the impression that the Braves–and Fredi–may be in trouble and that it’s possible ‘the FIRST half of last year was the aberration for a mediocre team.’
And, unlike now, we had the services of Hudson all year.
If JJ and Hanson are only mediocre, then any resurgence the offense makes may prove insufficient.
Maybe Bobby Cox was even more masterful than we give him credit for.

DOB, with Oakland claiming Hicks, the Braves now have only 35 players on their 40-man roster, easily the fewest in the majors right now. With the realization that the Braves do not have to fill all the spots and may opt for roster flexibility (i.e. leaving a spot open for Moylan’s eventual return, future acquisitions, etc.), do you think the Braves will make any outside acquisition(s) before the season or just fill some/all spots with non-roster invitees?

shadetree your security guard is not a reliable source. I’m here in LBV and Chipper is doing the same work he has done every spring. His knees are barking and he had discomfort in his thigh. Don’t think your security guy knows the difference between unhappy and discomfort. Chipper is running, stretching, using the bands, doing all the same workout the other players are doing. Some have forgotten he is coming off knee surgery not long ago and the recovery is a process.
