Vivlamore reporting from Sarasota where the Braves will take on the Orioles this afternoon. Just a quick apology for yesterday but I got hit with a 24-hour flu that knocked me hard. I made it through two batters in the game against the Tigers and had to leave. That has never happened to me in my career before. We move on.
Here is a Q&A I did with centerfielder Michael Bourn. It will become a story for the Sunday paper but here is the entire transcript.
Q. What is your mindset going into this season with a full season hitting leadoff for the Braves ahead of you?
A. I have no problem with it. That’s a good thing. I’m just trying to get prepared for the season to play. That’s about it. Other than that, there is nothing else to it, just using spring training to get ready for the season.
Q. What is your off-season program like?
A. I do take some down time to let my body relax. I let it recover for the most part and when I feel like I’m feeling OK, like it’s had enough rest, I go into getting it back into shape.
Q. What is involved in that program?
A. I don’t tell too many people all that. I work out a little bit. I take some days off when I’m working out just to make sure I get some rest.
Q. After an offseason of reflection, what was it like for you coming here midseason? Was there pressure to be the missing piece?
A. No. I just tried to do what I need to do. I don’t really take it like that, being the missing piece. It’s a team game. One person can make a difference in a game, but you are going to win and lose as a team. When I got over here, I just kept doing what I was doing in Houston. I just tried to let it carry over. That was it.
Q. The intangibles you bring, being able to manufacture a run, can lead to wins. Do you look at it that way?
A. That is fine. I’m always down for that. I’m always going to try to win the game. If I can help do that, I’m going to do it.
Q. Your approach going into this season is no different?
A. No. It’s the same old thing. It’s just a different team. I try to get prepared the same way. I’ve played enough to know how to get prepared. I might change a little here and there about learning stuff but for the most part I go about my business the same way.
Q. When you got here, did the coaches talk to you about what they expected from you as a leadoff hitter?
A. No. They just told me to go out and play. They didn’t want me thinking too much. They didn’t want me to worry about what is going on. I just do what I do. That’s it.
Q. What is your outlook for the season, especially coming off last season’s finish?
A. I think last year is over with. This is a totally different team. We got the same players, but it’s a totally different year. Last year, the Cardinals were hot at the time. They played good baseball. We went into a little rut. We can sit here and talk about it all day, but it’s over with. You’ve got to be able to move forward. If you linger on it, of course, it’s going to affect you. I don’t even think about it. After the season is over, I reflected on it for a little bit and that was it.
Q. So looking forward what is your outlook for this team?
A. I think we have a chance to be good. I think we have a chance to play for a long time. If we all take care of our business, all try to perform like we know we can, I think we will be a pretty good team. We got offense. We got pitching. We got defense. Put all three of them together and we’ll be able to give some people stuff to think about.
Q. You are in the last year of your contract. Have the Braves talked to you about re-signing?
A. No, I haven’t heard anything. I just take it one day at a time, take it in stride. When there business aspect comes up, me and the person that represents me will handle that accordingly.
Q. Would you like to start talks during the season?
A. No, I would rather not because that is discussions that you have to have on the phone every other day. I would rather just play the season with a clear mind and worry about the game, who is pitching, that kind of stuff rather than a deal. I would just rather concentrate on the game.
Q. I assume you would like to stay here?
A. It’s always a possibility. I like playing where I’m wanted. That’s one thing that I always say. That side will come. Right now, I’m going to worry about spring training, getting ready for the season and take it from there.
UPDATES:
Here are a couple quotes from GM Frank Wren on Bourn’s contract status:
“Our basic philosophy is we have expressed that we would like to retain Michael and then, from there, we go silent. When we approach him, before or after the season, those are things we prefer not to talk about.
“He is a guy that we like on our team. We think he fits really well. We like everything about him. We think his makeup is great. Good teammate. He works hard. He plays the game well. So, he is the perfect fit for us so our desire is that he stays with us beyond this year.”
Today’s lineup vs. Orioles:
1. Luis Durango, CF
2. Martin Prado, 2B
3. Freddie Freeman, 1B
4. Eric Hinske, LF
5. David Ross, C
6. Jason Heyward RF
7. Joey Terdoslavich, 3B
8. Evan Gattis, DH
9. Tyler Pastornicky, SS

For Carol and any old Macon Braves fans out there no longer living in the area who may not have heard the news: They have been sprucing up the old stadium at Luther Williams Field in recent days, alas not for the return of minor league ball to Macon, or even for another of the low-budget independent league teams that comes for a few months, then folds.
No, Clint Eastwood is coming to town to film part of a movie there. He plays an aging scout who is taking one final road trip with his daughter (Amy Adams) to check out a prospect. John Goodman and Justin Timberlake are also in the cast. The film, “Trouble With The Curve,” is supposed to be out in September. They are also filming scenes at the Cheers pub on Northside Drive in Macon, and I understand they are also filming some in Athens.
They recruited a bunch of extras to be fans at the stadium and members of a Class A ball team, had them tryout at the stadium to see if they knew which end of the bat to hold. Couple former college players from the area were picked, and they’ll supposedly be wearing Rome Braves uniforms in the movie – adding insult to injury for Macon folks who saw the team bolt here some years ago. Macon’s mayor meanwhile said it was good to get the ballpark looking better – not to attract a new minor league team but maybe to get more work as a movie prop. That’s why the best Macon can ever hope for is to have another “Pinetoppers” or some such in the next About To Go Broke indy league.

Read between the lines, Bourn will not be a Brave past this season. He doesn’t sound at all like a player that wants to be here. If so, he would have answered that last question differently. We all know that Braves won’t approach him on a extension between now and the start of the season, and he said himself that he doesn’t want to talk about a extension after the season starts. Don’t get used to Michael Bourn as our leadoff hitter to much, it will be for a max of 162 games.

Great interview. To summarize what we learned…
1) Our leadoff hitter has no problem batting leadoff.
2) Bourn’s off-season training program consists of working out.
3) It’s the same old thing… this is totally a different team… but with all the same players.
4) The Cardinals got a little hot at the end of last year and the Bravos went into a bit of a rut.
5) We got confirmation that last season is now over.
6) He didn’t go out on a limb and say that he definitely will NOT be back here before the start of the last season on his contract.
Did I miss anything?

A. That is fine. I’m always done for that. I’m always going to try to win the game. If I can help do that, I’m going to do it.
Is Bourne really “done for that”, or do you think he might be “dwon for that”?

This is not Vivlamore’s fault. He asked the right questions. There are two explanations:
1. Michael Borne is incredibly boring and a terrible interivew.
2. He couldn’t be less psyched about playing for the Braves.
I’m going to go with the combo platter, 1 + 2. Got the same vibe from him every time I heard him speak or saw him quoted last year- didn’t want to get traded, wasn’t all that jazzed to be on the Braves, never expressed any desire to remain with them long term.
Just hope that attitude, or lack thereof, doesn’t affect the team or his play.

What, Bourn’s supposed to play 1/2 a season here, magically fall in love with Atlanta and say he wants to retire a Brave and take a hometown discount to sign an extension with the team right now? Be realistic folks. Let’s just enjoy having a leadoff hitter for 2012. We can worry about 2013 next year.

Let’s get this straight. We have the #1 lead off hitter in baseball who is young, plays great outfield, and leads the league in stolen bases repeatedly, and we do not want him. What gives?
Typically, this is the guy that you want to either develop (if he already is on your team), or you want to go steal from some other team.
Why in th eworld would we not want to keep him locked up for the next 10 years?
This is what the Braves have been missing since Otis and Deion left/retired. This is exactly what the Braves have been missing and need.
Again, why in the world would you let the #1 lead off man in baseball, just walk away.
Everyone in the majors, (Yankees, Redsox, Cleveland, Detroit, Phillies, etc….) are going to be lined up. The braves need to reopen negotiations and lock this guy up. If not, we will hear the SOS for the next 10 years. If we only had a centerfielder, if we only had a lead off hitter, if we only had someone that could steal bases! With MB, we get all three in one.
We will regeret this forever if we do not resign MB!
Need to do it now!

All of those questions were mundane…what did you really expect with those questions. The guy doesn’t want to reveal too much about his workouts, who cares he’s lead the NL in stolen bases 3 straight years. He may or may not want to come back to the Bravos, but since they haven’t offered he probably doesn’t want to sound like an overexcited girl waiting for a guy to ask her out and if it doesn’t happen then look like an idiot.
Also, spell check doesn’t correct correctly spelled words that are not supposed to be there. Learn to edit, you have to learn it when you go to J-school.

Below an excerpt from ESPN on Brian McCann’s situation. I know there are several people in this blog that don’t like Law and ESPN but this one I think is on point. Sorry McFann but you may have to start looking for another Braves player to change your blog moniker to. What about BentFann or FreeFann? Just kidding
LAKELAND, Fla. — The Cardinals’ signing of Yadier Molina to a $75 million deal changes the landscape for the Atlanta Braves, as the possible free agency of Brian McCann looms at the end of 2013. The cost of high-priced catching just went up dramatically.
Atlanta holds a $12 million option on McCann for next season, and then the Braves must decide whether to invest an annual salary in the catcher that might absorb somewhere between 15 percent and 22 percent of their entire budget.
And keep in mind: The Braves’ payroll is not growing. All around baseball, new TV contracts are filling the bankrolls of the Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, etc. But Atlanta’s television contract is locked into place for the next generation, and its payroll has remained stagnant.
2001: $92 million
2002: $94 million
2003: $106 million
2004: $90 million
2005: $86 million
2006: $90 million
2007: $87 million
2008: $102 million
2009: $97 million
2010: $84 million
2011: $91 million

As Lemke’s Knuckler said, Is Bourn is supposed to fall in love with Atlanta.? Let me ask a question for everyone. What if you had to relocate for your job to a city you didn’t care for. Then a year later you were able to pick a new location for the same job. Would you stay in that location or relocate? I now everyone would relocate to a location they like. Same goes for Bourn. Plus he will get more money from other teams.

I am not totally convinced that Bourn is going to produce for us this year. His OPS dropped from .766 with Houston to .674 in the 53 games he played for the Braves. That’s a pretty significant drop. I don’t know if it was the pressure of a pennant race that caused the lower numbers. You can say the guy wasn’t exactly a difference maker since we lost the wild card anyway. Let’s hope the motivation of a long-term big contract will bring out the best in Bourn.

He was having a career year when he was traded last year. His career OPS is .694, and I would probably peg him for somewhere north of .700 for the season. Certainly no Rickey Henderson, but the dude also supplies superb D out in CF. So even if he doesn’t do exactly what he did for Houston last year for us at the plate, he will still provide a level of production from CF that we haven’t had in quite some time.

Bourn has caught Braves non-chalance and lack of urgency in just a couple of months with the team. It’s the Bobby Cox syndrome, carried through with Fredi. No fire. No urgency. Don’t think too much. It’s all about the organization. Didn’t win today. Hey, we’ll get ‘em tomorrow. Don’t get upset. There’s a lot of games left. What??? We have to win tomorrow or we’re out???? I do not really think Wren is too interested in resigning Bourn at the $12-$15 million per year he’ll get in free agency. He does bring unique attributes to a team, but they are not worth that type of money, better to sign an RBI guy for that kind of money? So like someone above said, the price we paid for him for 1.5 years is pretty good.

First, there is almost no way that Bourn will be here next season, because he is a Scott Boras client and Boras will find a team that will overpay for his speed and defense. He realizes the moniker of the situation and will play his butt off for the team this season because he’s a team player. Also, the fact that he’s in a contract year, he’ll play his butt off to try and have a good season in order to prove he deserves that huge contract.

Been away for a while, and read that same article this morning from Buster Olney’s blog. I wasn’t really concerned at all about the Braves agreeig to a contract extension before he hits free agency, but I’m now at least a little bit more concerned than I was prior to Yadi Molina’s contract. As far as McCann’s value to the Braves aside from baseball, it’s big in the clubhouse and as the longest tenured Brave past Chipper, Huddy. It’s just unfortunate for us that the Cards decided to grossly overpay for Molina’s services. In terms of payroll, I’m tired of hearing people say “How do you know the Braves payroll won’t go up?”. Well, my answer to that is, what evidence have you seen the last decade to think we’ll be in the low-100’s or even high 90 million dollar range? They were there in the mid-2000’s because of Hampton’s injuries and insurance money clearly factored into payroll at that time. I think like most things, it’ll just work out itself with McCann. If Freeman and Heyward progress so much over the next year+, then I think it’ll make it less of a priority to extend McCann. If they fall flat on their faces, it’ll raise the urgency to lock up a strong LH hitter like he is. But the bottom line is that several American League teams would be all over Mac in free agency because he could DH half his games there which could potentially make him more valuable for them than it would be for us to keep him. Anyway, should be interesting to see how it plays out – just unfortunate that the Cards had to destroy the Catching market by handing Molina that sort of deal. Not easy to devote close to 20% of your payroll to an NL catcher in their 30’s. Sad.

I’ll buy that one. But while I am always optimistic about my teams, I still am a realist and know that enough things can go wrong and make for a bad season.
But why start out negative? Just say, I really hope this team does well, but I have some doubts?
Instead, you come across as being an ass. Just one man’s opinion though.

You worry about rick and i’ll worry about phil.”
You don’t have to be “jacked about the team” to not be extremely negative about every facet. If I felt that way, I wouldn’t bother following them at all. I never said if I expect the Braves to win the world series or anything like that. What I know is that they have a playoff caliber team that can contend. The season is long and a lot can happen over 162 games, and they will have to perform to their ability in order to make it to the playoffs. No question about that. But predicting they end up under 500 is simply ridiculous and makes me question why you bother at all if you truly think that.

It’s not about expressing extreme positivity all the time or anything, but having realistic expectations and knowing what they are capable of if they play to their ability. Even though this is ST, it’s hard to find a bright side when your pitchers take the mound knowing that they have no leeway at all and that a 2.0 ERA or better is needed for the team to be competitive. Wayne,
Both the Taylors and lower end Martin’s are great guitars for the money. They have different sounds though. To me the Taylors are a bit brighter, they tend to record well and have nice electronics.
The Martins have better low end and age better. Usually just a thinline pickup, but that works pretty well.

Oddly enough, one of the best-sounding ones was a lowly Sigma dread cutaway with a stock pickup in it. A lot had to do with the player I’m sure, but it sounded right up there with many high-dollar guitars.

Yeah, I know it’s “just Spring Training, the vets and pitchers are just getting their work in, and mostly it’s our subs against their subs”, yadda, yadda, yadda.
The problem I see from the results so far (taking into account it IS early into Spring Training) is that our guys can’t score any runs, can’t pitch (at least not yet it seems), and their subs are making our veterans look like AAA send-downs (not to mention the actual AAA send-downs). The end-game results, including the nonchalant demeanor expressed so far from what I’ve gathered, feel much more like a team whose mentality needs serious and immediate adjustment. Other teams are getting the job done and so far the Braves haven’t been, which is another significant part of what Spring Training is about.
Yeah, it’s Spring Training…but if you don’t come caring about WINNING THE GAME and playing your level best then you may be uncomfortably surprised by how difficult it is to”flip that switch” when the season begins. Just like last year.

I had one of the first 50 PRS McCarty models, kept it for a few years but even though I loved the sound, I just did not like the neck, so I traded it!

I think Bourn sounds like a business man that can’t go jumping around like a kid in front od DisneyWorld’s gates waiting for them to open so he can run in and lose his mind. If he does that The Braveauxs have an advantage. In fact, I think most everyone missed a VERY IMPORTANT statement from Bourn…”i WANT TO PLAY WHERE I’M WANTED”
We also heard thatthe Braves HAVE NOT approached him with a contract extension. Sounds like the villain is FW and their limited payroll. Bourn is as PERFECT a fit for the Braves as McCann. He fills our CF void, our leadoff void, and our ridiculous stolen base void. Andruw Jones got $10mil a yr and although Bourn is a notch below Andruw in his prime I put him in the top 5 defensive CF’s today, top 5 leadoff hitters, AND top 5 base stealers!
5yrs/$50Mil should have been offered a month after he got here. Today it’ll cost 5yrs/$55Mil at the end of the season…5yrs/$60Mil. Just get it done FW.

Well see I also would like a Tele style guitar, and since I already have a Fender Strat would really like to get a G&L at some point.
Are you aware of the different neck profiles? It’s possible that you had a wide fat neck. The wide thin would probably be more to your liking.
I’ll definitely try a handful of models, but like I said this purchase is still probably a couple years off since I just got a new axe last summer. It wasn’t until recently I just started really jonesing for a semi or hollow body.

I understand what everyone is saying about this being Spring Training, that it’s only practice, etc…
I remember going to baseball practice. We worked on stuff like hitting and fielding and what to do in certain situations.
Thing is… if we did crappy in practice, we didn’t get to play in the actual games. Well, except for the coach’s son. He got to play no matter what. The rest of us, though, we had to perform in practice or our spot in the lineup went to someone else on the team.
So, yeah, it’s practice, but sooner or later, you’re going to want your players to practice doing good things like getting hits or strikeouts, and not practicing doing bad things, like hitting into double plays and giving up homeruns.

I am a tele guy and a 335 guy.
There is a massive difference between a thinline tele (or ASAT) and a 335 even if both guitars have humbuckers. You could easily have both in your collection with very little overlap.
G&L pickups are usually a bit hotter than Fender pickups.
Yes, I have played the wide thin neck, I like it better than the wide fat, but it is more like an older SG Les Paul shape which is not my favorite. I really like the Gibson 1960 slim profile neck, although I have Gibson from the 50’s early and late 60’s too.

Now we know the offense will e up and down due to the fact we have many pull type hitters and the young kids like Heyward,FF, Pasty and etc. This isn’t a prediction, but more likely a fact. When I played baseball in college (small Div II school) we played a fall schedule that I compare to Spring Training. The score and wins and losses meant absolutely nothing. What did matter were fundamentals, hits with runners in scoring position, extra base hits, pitchers throwing strikes and limiting runs. All things that the Braves appear to be failing to do at the moment. If I took anything from those fall games it was that if you sucked in the fall, you sucked in the regular season too, because well……you suck. So I will write this week off as the first week of Spring Training, but if this team as a collective group continues to suck over the next 10 games or so I am going into all out panic mode.

I noticed he was wearing the number 2, he has some sort of strange obsession with wearing old Jordan Schafer numbers. Wonder if he has a doll he sticks pins into. He just wasn’t the player we thought he was when we traded for him, now he really looks lost.

It is always fun to be sitting with a group of old pros and have some young naive kid come in and start playing and everyone gets quiet and watches and listens.

Self appointed baseball ’sophisticates’: Now you say “oh, it’s just spring training”, then it will be “oh it’s just April, it is still early”, then it’ll be ” oh, it isn’t even the all star break yet”. You are probably the same ones who said we were being too negative when we were freaking out in Sept. about all the losses and lack of offense. Shut up, pay attention and recognize that this team has offensive issues.

This team is bad folks, real bad. I’ve said all off-season that this team will lose 100+ games. It’s the 80’s Braves all over again. The offense remains absolutely horrible. Pitching isn’t any good anymore either. If it weren’t for the Astros, the Braves would be the worst team in baseball. 60-102.

Some of you are putting WAY too much emphasis on Spring training games…especially a week in. It’s practice. Nothing more. cab
And apparently, the other teams practices are better than ours. Could also equate to what could happen when the season begins. Oh, I really don’t think we will be this bad during the regular season, but there are just too many holes to believe that this team will compete for a playoff spot. I figure the pitching will carry us just like it did last year, but just like last year the pitching will wear down due to the lack of an offensive cushion.

The Braves aren’t doing a good job at anything, they are doing, they can’t hit, don’t can’t score runs, since last year, etc. Fredi, at this pace, at sometime at mid-season will not be the manager of the Braves.

I do firmly believe that we will be a lot like we were last year and will fall apart much the same way because the pitching staff will have a huge load to carry. Offensively, the only person that I really see coming back stronger will be Prado. He has that “eye of the tiger” mentality that I wish some of the others would show. I Heyward not doing much better. And whereas I’m enjoyed watching Chipper for a lot of years, he is past his contributing days. I hope I’m wrong because it sucks to watch a legend go out broken down. If I were the Braves, I might look more into Simmons breaking camp just so we’ll at least have a good defensive shortstop.

No, blog doof, they are relatively sporadic actually. The negative stuff isn’t constant either but is seen more than the former frankly.
So what, though. Isn’t there something else with which to be concerned? I don’t know. Basketball? The last time you went to chick fil a? The price of gasoline? What Rufino Linares is doing these days?
Something?

I know Simmons won’t beak camp with the team. I just stated that I would prefer him and his defense over Pastornicky’s suspect bat and shaky defense. As for McCann? I don’t see him any better than last year. He has hit .200 and .221 respectively over the last 2 seasons in September. He still is almost Piazza-like with his throws to second, but I will admit that the pitchers have to hold the runners closer than they have. And as for Uggla, I can only hope he doesn’t disappear for a half season like he did last year. And even though he got hot as hades for a while, he still only hit .238 in September.

No Bourne just got traded. He is not looking past 2012 because ANYTHING could happen and he just found that out and ALSO her is about to be able to test the free agent market. Who would NOT want to do that? If ATL wants to sign him before then they MUST come up with an offer TOO good to pass up and we all know and Bourne also knows that is not going to happen so all that will take care of itself AFTER the season so there is NO reason to even have that on his mind until the end of the season. He just got traded by his HOME town team. Thats got to still sting and he might just want to get HIS now and sign with whoever will pay the most. I DO know one thing though, the Braves has ALL year to use as an oppurtunity to gain an edge with him and other teams dont have that. Braves better make the most of it because if there are 3 things the Braves need it is speed, a center fielder and a leadoff man. Bourne is all 3 in one. Unless there sombody waiting to do all 3 of those things in the minors….
Pay Bourn and pay him well…..or we might have to get another McLouth and/or give up other top prospects to rent another Bourn for a half season or season and a half. We need stability in the outfield and in 2 of 3 spots, and maybe even ALL 3 spots, the Braves have not had none in a LONG time. Can I say since Gant, Justice and Jones? Thats been a LONG time! None since Jones.
Its been musical outfielders! And leadoff men. And virtually NO speed. SIGN BOURNE and play Constanza! Come on Freddy! We were rolling with Constanza the took him out and well, we all know what happened. Yeah I know the pitchers went down but had Constanza played in September I GUARANTEE you, that the Cards would NOT have won the WS last year….Because they would NOT have even made the playoffs!

Guy is a career 88 OPS+ hitter, spectacular is hardly a realistic adjective.
Boras keeps bringing his own performance charts and GM’s keep accepting them. 88 is a great OPS+ and a 1.60 WHIP is fantastic as long as Boras brings the charts. How he keeps pulling deal after deal (see Prince Fielder) is amazing.

When Milo Hamilton was a Braves broadcaster, he was an egotistical jerk (and probably still is for all I know) and was rude in person. The year Aaron was going to break the HR record, Milo and Ernie Johnson Sr. were the Brave’s broadcasters and Milo demanded that he would call all of Aaron’s at bats so he would be assured of making the historic call. Several people have said over the years that that was Ernie’s inning and it should have been his call on 715. It has also been reported that Milo promoted himself until he got elected to the HOF as a broadcaster.

It doesn’t matter about winning in Spring Training. What matters is your putting together a team for the new season, and your measure your strengths, and weeknesses. There is no trophies,or pennants,or rings. Just players trying to work on some fielding, batting,or baserunning. Pitchers trying to win a spot in rotations.Players trying to win a spot on the team.Spring Training is getting in shape for the regular season. Numbers don’t mean a thing, except for the players trying to earn a spot.Spring Training means the regular season is near. That’s how I see it………….

Bourn not feeling loved? I doubt that’s on Bourn’s radar, unless ithas to do with his family.
Bourn will give the Braves an all-out season and likely post excellent numbers. Then he’s off to test the market for his services, which will result in his being signed to a lucrative contract by another team.
A-okay. Just reality.

So where are the bats? We have 2 hitting coaches, replacing last years fired hitting coach. Talent up the ying yang but no consistant hitting. You can’t win divisions if you don’t find a way to excel over the top. Doesn’t look like the winter plan with Hayward worked. do we spend all Spring and the beginning of the season waiting for him to break out or think like a championship team and move him to AAA and find a power hitter. In a regular season, you always hear….it’s early…but we have had too many seasons where the last couple of games meant the playoffs. I sure would like to put the “early” games in the win column.

ozzie, it was a good article. Valid points. But I think the core arguments about the Braves stand: key players need to stay healthy and no prolonged hitting slumps. The team needs to see rebounds from McCann and Prado, especially. It’s make or break for Heyward. Jurrjens and Hanson have both demonstrated their effectiveness as top-of-rotation pitchers; they simply can’t breakdown.
There are no doubt question marks about the 2012 Braves. But healthy and hitting, with the team’s pitching – which I think the article underrates – the Braves are competitive.

From Carroll’s article setting up the ACC semis:
Only when 10th-seed Virginia Tech knocked off No. 7 Clemson on Thursday night did the tournament have its first upset and another interesting matchup for Friday. The Hokies advanced with a 68-63 win to face No. 2 seed Duke, a team it took to overtime in a loss at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Feb. 25.
Duke might have fallen victim to tired legs in that game, playing less than 48 hours after traveling to Florida State. This time it’ll be the Hokies with the greater concern after Duke got a first-round bye.

In FA a deep pocket team will give Bourne 12-13mm/yr a year easy. The Braves cannot afford a wheels guy at that price not if they even are dreaming about extending Mac.
Wish they took Pence b/c he would have been more valuable to the club (which never has enough offense IMHO) and worth stretching a bit. Also he won’t be a FA until 2014 so even if he left you got two+ years of him.

The Olympics really screwed the Braves over. I would be willing to bet attendance to games would go way up if the stadium were in the suburbs north of Atlanta.

Lew,I want to see the new girl that just moved into the neighborhood, not the old floozy who’s been living next door for the last decade or two…

@ Brava. I read the article but there is nothing new there than most Braves fans already know about this team. We are a good albeit flawed team that will have trouble scoring runs again since we did not do anything to improve our offense. We are counting in players that had subpar performance last year to rebound while hoping that nobody else catch the no hitting bug that have afflicted our team for the last 2 years. I see this year as bridge the youth movement that will be in force by 2013. GO BRAVES!

“He’s black the Braves will not keep him. Him and J-Hey will not be here are the trade deadline..”
The only color that the Braves management is concern about it is green. We just can’t keep Bourn because he will be too expensive for us to resign. Shoot we may have trouble keeping McCann and he’s a white as anybody can be.

Hugo – That hot neighbor isn’t likely to be on the field in either game. I’ll see all those pretenders when their time comes.

Might as well expect a losing year. Can’t even beat the Mets. Cancel those season tickets while you can, folks. Look forward to ‘13!
