Fredi gave plenty of impromtu Days off for B-Macc early in the season…B-Macc wasn’t right after that Damn oblique injury he suffered in August against the Pirates

I don’t see the Braves paying Mac or any other player more than $15 mil. Not without a pretty sizable bump in the payroll, which isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. It’s just not in their DNA or business plan. With a few exceptions, the Braves have really never paid for players in their prime unless they were under club friendly contracts. And with their limited payroll, it would be difficult to keep all of the young players who will become arb eligible in the coming years if they have one player making that much. Hate to say it, but the best thing that could happen for the Braves at this point is for Chipper to hang ‘em up and give the Braves a little more flexibility to offer Mac a decent but not great contract.
Thing is, I think Mac will give the Braves a “hometown discount”. His whole family and his home is in Atlanta and I think Mac is the kind of guy who gives that a lot of consideration. I can’t see him ever being comfortable spending half of the season in a place like New Yawk or Boston. Much like Chipper, I see Mac as the kind of guy who would rather play his whole career in Atlanta even if it means taking less money than he could make on the open market. At least I hope so, because he is, at this point, the face of the franchise.

With the increase of interleague play, NL teams will be able to justify a bit better a long term contract for players like B Mac.

How many of Ross’s starts were due to McCann being on the DL. I would say at least half if not more. and down the stretch in September ,I don’t think Ross started very much at all.Regular rest all through the season might prevent the injuries that put McCann on the DL. Keeping McCann off the DL and playing should be one of Fredo’s main responsibilities.As far as the DH goes ,put it in both leagues or eliminate it. This will never happen,so the NL will continue to lose there Stars to the AL.
And ask the Pirates about the DH now that they have lost A.J. Burnett for at least a 25% of his starts due to an bunting practice injury.

Spring Training is just the best time to enjoy baseball because it doesn’t matter who does what. It is time for practice. Time to work out the kinks and work on little things. I love Spring Training.
They practice by themselves. They practice against their own team. They practice against other teams. They just practice all month long.
The practice games mean nothing. It is just practice. I bet there are Braves that actually get upset watching batting practice before a practice game and get even more upset during and after the organized practice also known as an Exhibition Game.
For those that take practice a bit too serious, please lighten up on the grounds crew working on new techniques, plus maybe new equipment.

Skies cleared about halfway to Lakeland (note the strange dome on right, which I’ve never quite figured out all these years of covering spring training in Florida; there are two of them side-by-side).
That company built the local school out here in Tornado Alley…..They claim to be severe weather proof,They look like a UFO base stuck in a wheat field.You can see the gym building from 15 miles away on the Interstate.

Ross started 17 of the first 81 games pre-DL for Mac – better than a 1 in 5 average. he started 6 of the last 30 – down to a 1 in 6 average…

I’ve learned quickly just observing other teams’ fan blogs and whatever that almost nothing their team does more than a few will find something to complain about. What’s funny is that NONE of the actual players or management could give a damn what some unhappy fans/people type up on a computer. So go ahead and vent to get that moments satisfaction because you’re only talking to yourself. Nobody with any sense or a life honestly cares what you feel. Good, positive talk gets people’s attention if that’s what you’re looking for.

I don’t put a lot of stock in ST results simply because it doesn’t count and teams/players are trying out different things. But I will say that if the Braves don’t win the division this year it should be Wren’s last. The team has really been a disappointment during his tenure. The only gold star in the last several years is the apparent wealth of pitching prospects we’ve got and I’m not sure how much of that is attributable to FW. But the big club has become a team that aims for the wildcard instead of a team that competes for the division title. I have high hopes that some of last year’s disappointments will turn around this year and make a difference, but time will tell. If not, I say we put a “for sale” sign in FW’s front yard.

Go ahead and copy this to a document and you will be able to paste this to the game story for the Braves maybe 85 times this season. The only editing needed will be to replace 2-nothing with 3-0
6-1, 2-1, 4-0 etc. When your offense stinks and you make no moves to improve it in the off season, your offense is still gonna stink.
Glad the players are so sure there will be no carry over from September 2011.

That is true VaBF and I think that is a lot to offer for Bourn, and like someone said before, the Braves might hesitate to offer that much since they were burned by Maddux and Soriano both

For those with a premium MLB.TV account this season you actually don’t have to pay the extra $14.99 for the phone app. This year if you do have premium you just download the At Bat Lite app, log in and you can watch and listen for free. They do have an At Bat 12 app but I think that’s for non premium members who have to pay the $14.99. It’s not very often your dollar gets you more the next year, that’s pretty cool.

Saw Felo Ramirez, the voice of the marlin in the Spanish radio.
Felo Ramirez is a good friend from Puerto Rico, him and Ramiro Martinez start the MLB Game on Radio back in the 60’s in Puerto Rico.
Ramirez received the Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Granted ST games mean nothing as far as win lose records go. They are used to judge possable new talent and get the oldtimers in shape for the season. However the BRAVES are basicly the same team that choked last Sept. It worryed me the way they lost yesterday, one hit and that by a minor leaguer, The team seems to have the same loser mentality as last year. FREDI has a loser mentality, it is ok to kose as long as you can tip your cap to the other team and say good game. I may have been looking at a half full glass when I said 84 wins this year, it could be a lot less.

Seems to me that yesterday’s line up was more about giving chances to bench players to make the final spot oin the roster than proving we’re going to be/not going to be a force in the NL East. And I bet we’ll see a lot more of the same – especially early in ST.
