BravesFan, get off the couch. This is something that has happened to FF before. The human body does get injured even when doing something that they do all of the time.
Jack Wilson’s injury, though not headline news, is important. If Pastornicky is not ready, wasn’t Wilson supposed to be able to step in? Now our first baseman is potentially down? At the very least, an inauspicious start to the spring, for the infield anyway.
Hopefully Freeman’s right. Sometimes these guys have experience with recurring injuries and know how their body will react.
Also, remember that no player is going to risk making something minor into a nagging injury right now. It makes sense to be guarded right now while nothing’s at stake. The comments about steroids are just plain stupid.
As good as FF was at saving infielders from throwing errors last year, perhaps they could strive to do better so as to not put him in those spots where he could get hurt?
That said, I would have some concern about that kneecap. The ligaments that hold it in place have now been stretched twice and those things tend to stay stretched so it is not if it will happen again but when.
Dave: I agree with your comment about “fans’. I don’t understand those that read here that aren’t fans. Sometimes it comes across as a bunch of negative idiots.
The only serious injuries to date are Wilson and Hudson. Freemen needs to visit the doctor before we know what’s happenning and all the news about Hanson is good (an effectively in the past). Wilson knows how to field, and will be okay in a few weeks. Hudson is expecting to start on the DL and miss maybe the first month.
No one is lost for the season. I do wish we had some depth but who does? Nobody has a bench of starters. Budgets and the contract rules don’t allow the stockpiling of players.
Hinske can play 1b for awhile until Freeman ready to go, but hopefully Freddie will not miss any regular season time. Like the “Mack trucks hustle and power but defense not anywhere as good but still nice to have Hinske available if needed
Calm down everyone. The injuries aren’t helping anything, but are hardly fatal at this point. Let FF heal properly and bring him along slowly. The bigger worry is Hudson’s injury because the Braves really need him at the top of the rotation. Experience counts. And stop the really stupid steroid and position shuffling comments. Worry more about the missing RBI bat in left field. Think!
I went to several Spring training games two years ago. It was very obvious to my untrained eyes that the J Hey kid could NOT get to low and away fast balls. Kinda like Dale Murphy at the end of his career. Freddie slaps them to the opposite field all the time. Hopefully, they worked on that problem with Heyward this off season. Just saying
Gee, if Freddie is hurt, that means our offense is dependent on Uggla (.232), a broken-down thirdbaseman, Jason Heyward (.216) and a catcher with vision problems.
I’d better make some calls. At some point I gotta part with all this young pitching I’ve been collecting !
I hate to hear that about Freddie, unlike the other rookie phenom I think this kid has a real chance at being special. All in all it is tough to get excited about this year. I am very concerned with the health of Hanson and Jurgens and Hudson is already on the shelf. Plus with the way Gonzalez managed last year I hope he did not burn out Kimble and Venters. Chipper will be out soon enough!
There once was a 2nd year player who had a very nice rookie year, and was hurt
in 2nd season. This 2nd year player stunk up the joint after forgetting
how to hit ,after being rushed back by people who questioned if he was injured, lazy,
overrated,a bust, and anything else negative. So now we have another 2nd year guy
who had a very nice 1st season.I hope FF doesnt be out long, and I hope he comes
back with a good year . My question is if he takes to long to come back, will he get
rushed back, and if so,what if his mechanics are messed up from getting rushed back?
Will he get the same negative treatment as the previous 2nd year guy?
Hanson, Wilson and now Freeman, I guess there is no use to get to excited just have to wonder who number 4 wil be and there is a major injury waiting to be exposed. I sure hope that this is not a carry over from the end of last season.
Thats what i have been saying all along and other people complained. If they dont win it that is the first thing we will hear. We were hurt. SO IS EVERYONE ELSE. Suck it up, Shut up and lets play baseball.
For all the bodily violence that goes on in football you don’t find 12% of the players dealing with injuries before meaningful practices have taken place. And what’s with the thighs, calves, ankles, and knees of baseball players? You don’t find start-stop-start-stop tennis players falling all over the place with leg injuries. That’s because the sport itself keeps the players in shape.

He even took about 45 minutes after workouts to sign autographs and have an honest, sometimes funny, and really insightful interaction with us fans. Thing is, he listened, responded, and cared what our thoughts were. Very refreshing and I learned a lot about the story from his point of view. Truly a class act
The guys have been great to the fans, taking time and doing it right. DOB, we’d like to have said hi, but leaving tomorrow..
This team should be competitive and hopefully healthier. Baseball at DarkStar, 80 degrees, On the field by the players, life is good
It is kind of concerning that he’s had this isuue again within 2 years of the last occurrence. Is there any theory as to why – something he’s doing or the joint’s been weakened – or do they consider it just coincidence?
DOB – Seriously (about the fans comment), this blog is frustrating at times to the point of wanting to scream. Injuries happen, no one is showing up out of shape. Let’s just hope it doesn’t lead to anything major and he’ll be ready to come back soon.
Sorry, Honeybee. I’ve been out all afternoon. The AJC has a sports vent and you can vote the submissions up or down, depending on how you like or not like. I like you, and am am sick of the negative comments about Chipper.
Oh, boy–just when you were expecting everything to “fall into place” this season, then someone of the calibur of Freeman gets injured during ST. Great!
I didn’t realize until reading this blog that this was something that Freeman has had to deal with in the past, so let’s hope that it isn’t recurring.
Is there any word about the extent of the injury in broader details at this stage, or is it still being evaluated more fluently? I suppose a partial out-of-joint kneecap is better news than a full one. 3-4 weeks rehab?
Would love to hear from some of these doctors who know about these kind of injuries, and who can tell us why they occur, and how to train so that they are minimal. I too have to wonder if some of these folks don’t take good care of them selves during the off season ! Help me out doc ! What can the players do to stay in better condition ? Go Braves……….
You can tell “Chipper Did It”’s mom doesn’t let him on the computer often, he’s typing in all caps. Not one spring game has been played yet and already we’ve got “Freddie’s on steroids”, “players are out of shape”, and “fans” talking about *Jurgens* and *Kimble*, not to mention this future Jeopardy contestant —> The pitchsr’s and players are showing up at camp completly out of shape. No respect for a manager that refuses to manage. DOB -
It is kind of concerning that he’s had this isuue again within 2 years of the last occurrence.

FF is about to receive a surgical recommendation….i’m guessing.
He will decline.
This will happen again soon.
FF is now officially as fragile as glass….like Chipper.
It’s gonna be a long one, folks.

He needs to lose his temper, and let everybody no whose the boss. — cowdogit.
Commenting is a privilege, not a right, people! Be smart! Go Braves!
