However, I don’t think I made any mention of Minor vs. Medlen in that context, or even Medlen as this year’s fifth starter. Any comments I’ve made about Medlen were strictly concerned with my view that he’s unlikely to be an excellent starting pitcher, long-term.

Notice that I didn’t say he couldn’t pitch, or that he had no value, or that he was a complete scrub looked down upon by even JoJo Reyes. I have a feeling that some folks might think I did. :-)

tiger/scoots/others

If our primary discussion is who of Medlen, Minor, Teheran or Delgado will be our 5th (and maybe 4th) starter, then we might just be OK. I think Medlen is bound for the pen for now. With his ability to start, he can always be stretched out if needed later. Same goes for Vizcaino.

And while Minor has said a few stupid things in his short career, I think he is at worst one of the better 5th starters in baseball, and potentially a very, very good mid rotation starter.

And with that, I’ll close up the computer and hit the road again………..

Derrick Lee is still a free agent, and looks like his chance for a major league deal is gone now that ST is here.

I been saying this the whole offseason, this team has a horrible bench, we can’t afford any injuries or slumps. Jack Wilson is hurt already, Hanson had the car crash and such and now Freeman and ST hasn’t even started yet.

DOB: whether it’s a sprain and severity. I was told more than a strain when I was in clubhouse.

Strain being an injury to a tendon/muscle structure. Sprain being an injury to a ligament/bone structure.

That is, a strain is not a more severe sprain and vice versa. They are similar types of injuries (stretching or tearing of) to different parts of the body (ligaments or tendons).

AJC posted a separate story that Liberty says Braves “lost” $6 million last year. Braves didn’t “lose” anything. They absorbed Lowe’s salary dump in 2011, rather than spread it over 2012 (Hey, Liberty can we now “spend” that $10 million on 2012 payroll?). Also, “loss” is before interest, depreciation and amortization, and since teams can fully deduct salaries, that’s a 35% savings right there alone. Liberty probably turned a $40 million profit on the Braves. Hopefully, Liberty’s decision to push Lowe’s salary into 2011 means they’re dressing up the bottom line in 2012 to SELL.

Strains and Sprains both have 3 grades of severity.
Grade 1) Minor: involving minor stretching or minor tearing.
Grade 2) Moderate: partially torn, but still in tact.
Grade 3) Sever: completely torn.

The difference between them however remains the part of the body which was injured. Strain = Tendon. Sprain = Ligament.
