But we have to go to war with the army we have, and I don’t see anyone currently on the squad better suited.

I probably should have mentioned that I agreed with you, LOL. Prado it is, for my money.

We still haven’t seen any pics of Hanson’s vehicle post-crash….The bruise on the left shoulder is telling, but we need to rule out a Tiger-esque, golf club-wielding, female attack as cause of this crash.

Isn’t the 2-hole hitter supposed to be your best hitter? I think that’s what that old article said..MF

it could not be an old article because that has never been the course in baseball. some new theories posit that but no team I know of does it that way regularly

it could not be an old article because that has never been the course in baseball. some new theories posit that but no team I know of does it that way regularly

The new theories also posit that line up construction has the bare minimum of impact on the outcome of a season. They render the entire point moot by the time they come to their conclusions. But their desire to burn the past and proclaim a new way forward is strong enough to misinterpret portions of their data sets.

Not that I am immune to batting order unorthodoxy. I’d like to see Heyward batting third if he shows a return to form this spring, with Chipper behind him at 4. That way you have speed bunched together at the top, without the plodders getting in the way.

See baseball. Hit baseball. Score runs.

Pitch baseball. Get batter out. The formula will never change.

Our public schools are mostly in ruins for a myriad of reasons, and new theories are right up there.

Learn to read. Learn to write. Learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Learn some geography. Learn some history. Learn some science. The old formula worked.

For all the Tommy Hanson fans:

Depending on how finicky you are, 10 to 20 pitchers embody the characteristics of a true No. 1. Halladay, Lee, Verlander, CC Sabathia, Tim Lincecum, Clayton Kershaw and Felix Hernandez are no-brainers. Josh Johnson and Adam Wainwright qualify if healthy, and Chris Carpenter still exudes that ace cachet at age 36.

Jered Weaver, Dan Haren, Cole Hamels, David Price and Jon Lester slot in right behind them. Matt Cain, Zack Greinke, Yovani Gallardo, Jair Jurrjens and Ricky Romero are accomplished pitchers in their mid-20s, and Ian Kennedy and James Shields ranked high in Cy Young balloting last year. A year or two from now, Stephen Strasburg and Matt Moore could be automatic mentions in this group.

While I think he’s right, Francona isn’t exactly an unbiased source, is he? I mean, the guy who got fired because his team failed thinks that the team in a similar situation that didn’t fire the person in his position handled it better? Not exactly breaking news there.

Harrah’s odd’s agree.

Are you familiar with the logic behind setting such odds? They are set as to bring in equal amounts of money on each side of the wager, that is, to equalize the opinions of the public. It has nothing to do with whether the book has any inkling as to the success or failure of the Braves. If more bettors believe that the book has set the price too low, the book increases the odds in favor of the other side, again, with no context whatsoever as to success or failure of the wager’s components.

So, if a lot of money comes in on the low side and Harrah’s increases the odds of the Braves having a successful season, will you then change your mind about their chances against a pitcher who “hits his spots”? :-)

Please analyze this photo and share your unique opinion on this photo. Here is a 24 year old athlete that appears to have come to camp pregnant. How many hundred of you will confirm this to be true, just by looking at an Internet photo, as you did with Chippers photo.

Phil,
If the schools are not teaching reading, writing, math, science, history, geography any more, what do you think they are teaching? It is easy to make the schools the whipping boy when you don’t have to go in and teach the kids yourself or have an appreciation for what the job really entails, but the details of the other poster about the problems his grandmother faced in the medical establishment indicates there is a lot of mediocrity found in every profession. (My own family can add some horrendous experiences with too many doctors as well) I know when I worked in the computer industry that many of the people there were collecting “corporate welfare” — getting a nice paycheck for relatively little work.

So if you have gangrene or something that has generated dead flesh (zombie-hood too?), putting maggots on the wound will actually cleanse the wound pretty effectively. (From the Army Survival Manual, I’m not making this stuff up.)
