Not sure which was worse, 5 mil to Sizemore, or 5 mil to a pitcher who had an e.r.a. of 5.05 last year, who’ll be facing the dh this year.

I am glad the braves did not sign sizemore or beltran not for the money they signed for. Less of course but that was not going to happen. NC, that could be a new criteria on signing opinions. IF it was your money, would you sign player x for this amount of money. And you only have x amount dollars remaining.

call it so you want to be a general manager
get the payrolls for the teams , spin the wheel see which team you

jeffrey d: The Million Dollar Quartet has an album that you can prolly find on Amazon or eBay. All of those guys recorded for Sun Records in the early 50’s, they would play around in the studio recording together, and Sam Phillips was smart enough to put together an album of outtakes.
Individually, their Sun records are some of the greatest and most important recordings in history.

nc, good idea but remove the top 10 teams in payroll. IF there are duplicates would be interesting how the contrast would look like. It would not be that hard if you have lets say the Yanks payroll. Make it a challenge, starting with team #11

Just got back from backfield, where Tommy Hanson did some fairly strenuous running in the outfield. About 12-15 minutes of running series of perhaps three-quarter effort sprints from CF to LF foul pole and back. First time he’s been on field since the concussion Monday.
Not going to do any throwing until Monday or Tuesday.

Whether Bourn returns next season depends on who owns the Braves, If Liberty Media decides to sell the Braves, Which they might do then Bourn will be signed to a multi yr contract along with other needs that FW thinks the Braves need to compete with the Phillies and Marlins, New owners will change the way FW does business by allowing him to make changes that are not possible with present ownership, Lets hope Liberty Media does the right thing and sells the Braves.

DOB: Every time I hear someone claim that they failed a drug test because of elevated testosterone levels and claim they are clean I wonder about it. I remember back in ‘07 when Chris Lofton failed a drug test because of elevated testosterone levels. The doctor told him there could be only one other reason for a positive test that being testicular cancer which he had. The positive test probably saved his life.

Webster,
I’m in West Chester area…the hosts of a few of the shows are Mike Missinelli, Jonny Marks, Sean Brace, Phil from Mt Airy, Baldy and Mais to name a few. I’ve called in a few times when they were discussing the upcoming baseball season. The points I have made I feel hold much value. What the Phillies have on the Braves last year and I believe going into this year is the consistency in quality starting pitching. The Braves starters are quality as well, but do not go as deep into games as the Phillies studs do. We saw what effect this had on the bullpen, which I would take the Braves pen over any pen in MLB right now. I do believe this Braves line up is much more dynamic and has a greater potential to be effective throughout the entire season in comparison to the Phillies. It’s those nasty starters that allow them to maybe stay ahead of the Braves again this year, but that gap is much closer than these arrogant, obnoxious Philadelphians think. They are already assuming the NL East crown is won. And I do not think that is remotely close to the truth this year as the Braves have in my opinion a beautiful mixture of veterans and rookies/2nd year/3rd year players.
Needless to say, my expectations are high. That goes for you too, DOB.

amazing that Zumaya is out again. When he and Verlander were coming up, some even said that Zumaya may have better stuff. Amazing how some people’s body hold up and some, despite immense talent, fall apart.

I am serious. THe Braves need an ace to lead their rotation. THe runs are a given that we will need. I am banking on the fact that people will return from career worst years. No way can that happen 2 years in a row.
Pitching, as always will be key. We burned up our dominant bullpen due to young starters that did not go deep in the game. Hanson can be one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. We need Hanson to take over #1 with Huddy #2.
As far as how long Hanson will be with us….It depends on how he develops and the development of our young pitchers, especially the big 3. Way to early to declare outright that Hanson will not be here in 2 years

We know for sure Center Field will be a need after the season, There will be a few options in free agency including our own Michael Bourn. I see those options getting good pay days. The Braves don’t have any in-house options ready to step in. So the Braves will either have to spend some money or make a trade. A few names to keep in mind are Denard Span and Peter Bourjos.
Notible Free Agent CFer in 2013.
Longterm Options Bourn(30) Upton(28) Victorino(32)
Stopgap Options Ross(32) Pagan(31) Bryd(35)

I don’t think Bourjos is to that level yet, Right now he’s mainly known for his top tier center field defense. At the plate he’s only a 253/303/423 career hitter so far. Has really good speed as well. Could be a really good leadoff man if he can improve with the bat. I see him becoming a 15 Homer 30 SB type guy with Gold Glove defense IMO
