Not sure which was worse, 5 mil to Sizemore, or 5 mil to a pitcher who had an e.r.a. of 5.05 last year, who’ll be facing the dh this year.
Tomahawkin (The Godfather)
I dunno why but My Athlon Sports Baseball is Suck_ing off the Reds again to finish ahead of Atlanta after a Flop last year…
I guess they Suck them off so much because they play in a Garbage Division?
guilty as charged on the sizemore matter
i’d have taken the chance and signed him
if it weren’t my money i was spending
February 26th, 20121:14 pm
then again i would have signed beltran too, between the 2 of them maybe we
keep one healthy
February 26th, 20121:17 pm
I am glad the braves did not sign sizemore or beltran not for the money they signed for. Less of course but that was not going to happen. NC, that could be a new criteria on signing opinions. IF it was your money, would you sign player x for this amount of money. And you only have x amount dollars remaining.
Then you could’ve persuaded Hampton to go out of retirement, gary

maybe we can start an online game
call it so you want to be a general manager
get the payrolls for the teams , spin the wheel see which team you
and when all the teams are filled have a draft, then use fantasy baseball rules
only you have to stay within the payroll limitations with your draft
February 26th, 20121:35 pm
one of you software experts draw that up
and cut me in on a small percentage
February 26th, 20121:41 pm
jeffrey d: The Million Dollar Quartet has an album that you can prolly find on Amazon or eBay. All of those guys recorded for Sun Records in the early 50’s, they would play around in the studio recording together, and Sam Phillips was smart enough to put together an album of outtakes.
Individually, their Sun records are some of the greatest and most important recordings in history.
Oh Well, Time To Cool Out To some Cyndi Lauper, Teena Marie and some old Commodores…
February 26th, 20121:44 pm
I’ve liked Johnny Cash but never really gotten too into him, but today’s discussion got me intrigued so I did a little Wikipedia reading before realizing he was alive and performing during Elvis’ time too. So I did a ctrl+f for Elvis, and there they were!
February 26th, 20121:46 pm
Is there a difference between bumping and cooling out?
nc, good idea but remove the top 10 teams in payroll. IF there are duplicates would be interesting how the contrast would look like. It would not be that hard if you have lets say the Yanks payroll. Make it a challenge, starting with team #11
February 26th, 20121:48 pm
Just got back from backfield, where Tommy Hanson did some fairly strenuous running in the outfield. About 12-15 minutes of running series of perhaps three-quarter effort sprints from CF to LF foul pole and back. First time he’s been on field since the concussion Monday.
Not going to do any throwing until Monday or Tuesday.
February 26th, 20121:51 pm
Gene Kelly just kinda gives me the creeps…

Why don’t they put rain tires on the cars and just race? Aterall the fans are getting wet in the stands. The drivers would not get wet, they are in the cars. They play football in the rain don’t they?

The 1:55 written in jest of course.

But I do like Cary Grant
February 26th, 20122:15 pm
BREAKING: @Twins reliever Joel Zumaya out for the season with torn ulnar collateral ligament in right elbow.
February 26th, 20122:16 pm
Wow McFann, you really know who GARY GRANT was.
February 26th, 20122:18 pm
McFann – ever see Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary?
February 26th, 20122:21 pm
Really funny movie.
February 26th, 20122:23 pm
Harold and Maulde was very good.
Ha, yeah, I was just funnin’…
Of course I know who Cary Grant was! I wasn’t born yesterday…and I’m a woman…
No…but I have seen lots of shows that mention it…
February 26th, 20122:24 pm
Random question, Does it seem that winning a Gold Glove has lost some of its distinguished honor?
February 26th, 20122:25 pm
The Sweetest Thing was a bit off-color, but very funny.
February 26th, 20122:26 pm
OH, And Born Yesterday also a funny movie.
February 26th, 20122:27 pm
Whether Bourn returns next season depends on who owns the Braves, If Liberty Media decides to sell the Braves, Which they might do then Bourn will be signed to a multi yr contract along with other needs that FW thinks the Braves need to compete with the Phillies and Marlins, New owners will change the way FW does business by allowing him to make changes that are not possible with present ownership, Lets hope Liberty Media does the right thing and sells the Braves.
February 26th, 20122:28 pm
WALKING DEAD new tonight.
February 26th, 20122:29 pm
Good music in Harold and Maude…
wins, I don’t think there has been any indication that LM is going to sell the Braves.Possible of course, but unlikely.
February 26th, 20122:33 pm
Yup Cat Stevens, I don’t agree with his politics but he sure could and I guess still can sing.
February 26th, 20122:35 pm
Hanson playing catch now in right field, his first throwing of any kind since the concussion on Monday.
February 26th, 20122:36 pm
Still raining at Daytona.
February 26th, 20122:37 pm
Won’t hurt to throw a bit.
February 26th, 20122:41 pm
DOB: Every time I hear someone claim that they failed a drug test because of elevated testosterone levels and claim they are clean I wonder about it. I remember back in ‘07 when Chris Lofton failed a drug test because of elevated testosterone levels. The doctor told him there could be only one other reason for a positive test that being testicular cancer which he had. The positive test probably saved his life.
February 26th, 20122:46 pm
“Random question, Does it seem that winning a Gold Glove has lost some of its distinguished honor?”
It Has I Think! That award isn’t what it used to be…It has lost merit since 2005
I mean Nate Mclouth Won A Gold Glove out of Sympathy for the Pirates, Go Figure!
That was prolly Dud Selig Who nominated him for it?
February 26th, 20122:54 pm
Just Saw an Overhead shot of the field at Darkstar on Facebook…Its Looks cool and overcast…
As a Favor They Should Move the Heyward Tents To The Ted to create more Tailgating/Party Rooms…And Take Tooner Field to 6 Flags I don’t think that place does any revenue like it used to?
February 26th, 20122:58 pm
That Gene Kelly is one heckuva dancer, though…
Donald O’Conner’s great, too—and funny…
February 26th, 20123:01 pm
Thought you would like Donald O’Conner
And yes, Gene Kelly is kinda good at dance
February 26th, 20123:03 pm
Don’t forget, “Bringing up Baby” and “His Girl Friday”
February 26th, 20123:04 pm
Toma, I agree.. Parra winning it. I wonder how many fans outside of AZ even know who he is? Winning the Gold glove used to be deemed a high honor by the fans. Even myself as big of a baseball fan I am, I will look at who wins and then its more of a shrug.
February 26th, 20123:05 pm
Gotta admit I’m not at all familiar with either.
February 26th, 20123:15 pm
I’m in West Chester area…the hosts of a few of the shows are Mike Missinelli, Jonny Marks, Sean Brace, Phil from Mt Airy, Baldy and Mais to name a few. I’ve called in a few times when they were discussing the upcoming baseball season. The points I have made I feel hold much value. What the Phillies have on the Braves last year and I believe going into this year is the consistency in quality starting pitching. The Braves starters are quality as well, but do not go as deep into games as the Phillies studs do. We saw what effect this had on the bullpen, which I would take the Braves pen over any pen in MLB right now. I do believe this Braves line up is much more dynamic and has a greater potential to be effective throughout the entire season in comparison to the Phillies. It’s those nasty starters that allow them to maybe stay ahead of the Braves again this year, but that gap is much closer than these arrogant, obnoxious Philadelphians think. They are already assuming the NL East crown is won. And I do not think that is remotely close to the truth this year as the Braves have in my opinion a beautiful mixture of veterans and rookies/2nd year/3rd year players.
Needless to say, my expectations are high. That goes for you too, DOB.
February 26th, 20123:27 pm
cabravesfan Thought you would like Donald O’Conner
Yikes—What does that mean?…
thanks for the update again DOB – Hanson’s progress is absolutely key to the Braves for 2012 and beyond – another young pitcher with true ace potential but also question marks
February 26th, 20123:30 pm
it probably has been mentioned but could someone tell me who is slated to start the Grapefruit opener?
February 26th, 20123:33 pm
why is it grapefruit and not lemon or orange????
February 26th, 20123:40 pm
good question nolie – who likes grapefruit? It is an acquired taste
It’s more euphonic.
“thanks for the update again DOB – Hanson’s progress is absolutely key to the Braves for 2012 and beyond –”
Beyond? Are You World Serious? However, We do Need Him to come correct this year though, but he needs run support
and BTW Big Red Will Not Be With the Braves after 2014, Bank On It!
February 26th, 20123:43 pm
amazing that Zumaya is out again. When he and Verlander were coming up, some even said that Zumaya may have better stuff. Amazing how some people’s body hold up and some, despite immense talent, fall apart.
Didn’t the Braves and Bobby Cox have a lot of comments years back after facing the TIgers in preseason when they faced Verlander and Zumaya??
February 26th, 20123:47 pm
I am serious. THe Braves need an ace to lead their rotation. THe runs are a given that we will need. I am banking on the fact that people will return from career worst years. No way can that happen 2 years in a row.
Pitching, as always will be key. We burned up our dominant bullpen due to young starters that did not go deep in the game. Hanson can be one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. We need Hanson to take over #1 with Huddy #2.
As far as how long Hanson will be with us….It depends on how he develops and the development of our young pitchers, especially the big 3. Way to early to declare outright that Hanson will not be here in 2 years
February 26th, 20123:48 pm
The prophet Tomahawkin…..
February 26th, 20123:55 pm
grapefruit can interact dangerously with several medications
February 26th, 20123:56 pm
Prophet-highly ulikely. Opinionator- most certainly.
February 26th, 20123:57 pm
Just that his personality and dancing seems like it wold appeal to you He’s enjoyable to watch
February 26th, 20124:02 pm
Donald O’Connor would be right down McFann’s alley. He is the actor who played opposite Francis the Talking Mule in a series of movies which were the inspiration for her beloved Mr. Ed series.
February 26th, 20124:04 pm
What is creepy about Gene Kelly? nolie,on the other hand……
February 26th, 20124:07 pm
those are both great Cary movies cab, you should watch them
February 26th, 20124:08 pm
nolie is a creep, no doubt
February 26th, 20124:10 pm
Just seeing if you are awake, nolie.
February 26th, 20124:11 pm
We know for sure Center Field will be a need after the season, There will be a few options in free agency including our own Michael Bourn. I see those options getting good pay days. The Braves don’t have any in-house options ready to step in. So the Braves will either have to spend some money or make a trade. A few names to keep in mind are Denard Span and Peter Bourjos.
Notible Free Agent CFer in 2013.
Longterm Options Bourn(30) Upton(28) Victorino(32)
Stopgap Options Ross(32) Pagan(31) Bryd(35)
Possible Trade Options Bourjos(25) Span(29) Crisp(32) Stubbs(27)
February 26th, 20124:12 pm
I will freely admit I am not the biggest fan of old movies, although the ones that I have watched with VJ I have enjoyed quite a bit (the Bishop’s Wife, Butch Cassidy, a few others who’s names are not coming to me…I loved Singin in the Rain long before I knew VJ)…maybe I will give those a look
February 26th, 20124:15 pm
those two are examples of what was called screwball comedy. kinduva romcom with a lot of snappy one liners
February 26th, 20124:16 pm
Ill take the Flyin’ Hawaiian
February 26th, 20124:19 pm
I like Bourjos, proposed trading Minor for him recently and got attacked. Still believe it would be a good trade for both teams.
February 26th, 20124:21 pm
and you shoulda been assailed ya big dummy…….
February 26th, 20124:22 pm
Do you think the Braves rather dish out a 4 or 5 year deal to a CFer or trade minor league talent for someone like Peter Bourjos or sign a stop gap type (cheap route)
February 26th, 20124:23 pm
I would do a Minor for Bourjos trade in a heartbeat. I think they would want more tho.
February 26th, 20124:24 pm
lets say that I don’t see many in your list that they will be interested in, and their history is one of preferring trades so I’d look for a trade if they do not sign Bourn
February 26th, 20124:25 pm
Our Pitching Is Not The Problem…Its was our Inconsistant Ass offense that let us Down all year last year
And I might just make the Proposal of Batting Ugg 3rd this year if and only if he doesn’t leave his bat in Florida in April And May…
And If I’m not mistaking Ugg Hit 3rd a lot when he was with the Marlins with a lot of table setters in front of him who would steal bases and wreck havoc, causing opposing pitchers to throw him nothing but fastballs
You hurt my feelings,nolie.
February 26th, 20124:26 pm
I was just kidding CB, I would have been very interested in that trade
February 26th, 20124:29 pm
I think Bourjos will end up being a more valuable player than Mike Minor.
I kind of thought you did. Ha!
February 26th, 20124:30 pm
Uggla hits the best in the 4th slot IIRC.
Besides the Braves, assuming that Bourn does not get an extension during the season, what other teams will be in need of a CF’r?
February 26th, 20124:31 pm
I’m not sure how eager the Angels are to trade Bourjos. They may be listening to offers, but I don’t think they are inclined unless they get a completely overwhelming offer…
Va,I believe he will have a better career than Bourn. A world of potential, needs a little better contact.
Dan does have good numbers at third slot but in only 71 at bats
February 26th, 20124:32 pm
Yep, people act like I’m crazy as hell when I rant against acquiring chronically injured players. Sizemore is no surprise. Just waiting until Beltran goes down, too. It never fails.
well its not as if Bourn is all that good a contact hitter either
February 26th, 20124:33 pm
well it did fail last season on Beltran Lew
February 26th, 20124:35 pm
I don’t think Bourjos is to that level yet, Right now he’s mainly known for his top tier center field defense. At the plate he’s only a 253/303/423 career hitter so far. Has really good speed as well. Could be a really good leadoff man if he can improve with the bat. I see him becoming a 15 Homer 30 SB type guy with Gold Glove defense IMO
February 26th, 20124:36 pm
nolie – Contract year. Just wait and see.
