I like the disciplined look of a shaved face myself. I’m not stupid enough to equate facial hair with defeat, but it tells me something about discipline. Worked pretty well for John Wooden. FG is no John Wooden.
Then again, maybe we should just grow em out like the guy in the new commercial that hordes cats.
It worked for that idiot pitcher for the Giants. Maybe big fat guts will get us over the hump this year too.
Is it not okay to expect the players to at least be in excellent shape? For the love of Pete Van Wieren?
There is a story by Jayson Stark on ESPN.com about the different post-collapse approaches of the Braves and Red Sox. Check out the picture of Chipper. Does he look fat or what? Does not look good at all.
“Calm down, Rick. We didn’t hit a lick the entire season. FG hired the bonehead who “coached” in that area and did nothing with him, even in the face of clear evidence that he couldn’t have coaxed a ground ball to first out of Ted Williams in his prime.
He killed the bullpen in record fashion. He kept playing Wayward when the guy couldn’t do much more than ground out to the right side of the infield. He yanked every starter he could after 5 other than Hudson. He kept trotting what’s his name out there every 5th day when my driveway could see he was toast.
Is that at least a little better, Rick? Are you another of the dreaded blog cops who hates anything he doesn’t agree with?”
Fredi did not hire him, Wren did. As the GM, he makes the final hiring decisions. I’m sure Fredi had input, but in this case Wren was actually a long time friend of Parrish. On “doing nothing,” as I mentioned they had meetings about specific players and specific issues. They just didn’t help. We only know so much about the inner workings of the team, but it’s evident to me that the collapse wasn’t for a lack of trying.
The overuse of the bullpen was my biggest issue with Fredi. But, I think there was a noticeable improvement in the second half. I hope that he’s learned from the experience and I expect him to better use them throughout this season this year. Also I think we will have a better bullpen this year so that will make it easier for him to feel confident about using different relievers. Also I expect the offense to better this season, which should hopefully markedly decrease the number of extra inning games that caused several games worth of extra work for the bullpen. And no matter the situation, there were always groans from people on these blogs whenever Linebrink, Sherrill, or Proctor were brought in to a game. Again, he can only use the players that are on the team.
Not at all, it’s just the majority of the comments these blogs get are incredibly stupid. People too often blame coaches and players for things that are often out of their control.

Hey, who turned out the lights? I need a suticase to pack my $16 million in from the 64 games I’ll play in this year. I should be able to hit .201 (better than that little blond dude in CF) with 3 homers and 11 RIBS. RIBS, huh. That makes me hungry. Gotta go shoot something y’all!
Y’all vote for me ok? I need some contributions for some new teleprompters so I can read off more crap you folks will believe. Send them to me care of Mark Bradley. Gotta go. Michelle’s getting warmed up in the East room…
Haywood should be sent down 2 the miner legue. Just cuz he is crushing it in BP mean nuttin. Its BP where they get essay pitches 2 hit. Lets see how he do in reel games like last year were he totaly sux.
Good Morning Everyone, Well I see all the whiners are still on here. Looks like Phil needs some help. At least he gives facts and doesnt listen to all the excuses and whining.

Thanks for the video, Dave.
Should we be worried that Heyward is hitting grounders to second off the ball machine?
