Let it be. Hanson had a flat and has a concusion. There was no alchohol or drugs involved. Those are the only official statements. The rest is a bunch of jealous jerks jumping to conclusions. My family does a lot to maintain our cars in good working order but sometimes road trash causes a flat. It happens.
Also, who said it was his car? Could it have been a rental? He lives in California and Atlanta. Lots of minor details of no consequence remain unanswered. Put your speculation time into discovering who really shot JR, and lay off Hanson.

Just because he was not arested does not mean he was not drunk. The police down there proect the palyers because they enjoy the money they bring. If the police started to crack down then the teams will go somewhere else 4 sprig training. Tires only blow out when they are damaged. he hit someting or he just drove in 2 a ditch then blame the tire after.

Well Joe Tess and Jay (as well as a few others) got dinky curves past me today. However, it is spring training for me too. It wont take long and I’ll be in midseason form. Rick, This is a very good Braves team. They are capable of winning at least 100 games but dont show it on the field. We didnt win because of injury. JJ knee, Hanson shoulder, Heyward thumb and shoulder, Chipper knees, Prados staph infestion, Mccann Oblique. Year after YEAR same old story.Personnally this girl is tired of listening to why they dont produce. Other teams are hurt too, but they still win. Lets suck it up and quit finding excuses and play ball.

If you have ever been out to any popular nightclubs around Atlanta during the season, especially when the off day is the next day, you will see certain braves out that really like to party and drink, Hanson is a partier, not making assumptions or anything about the tire, just confirming I have seen Hanson in the clubs

While the younger players may not be breaking the laws, it is a party. Do people think that the younger players stay in their rooms when not training? A friend of mine was a personal training for a braves minor league player “forget the name….though wasn’t a big name” went down one spring training. This is going back to the Estrada days. He said that it looked like spring break at night. Many of the players would be out late into the night. Now grant it that the veterans weren’t out.

I’m a natural cynic and I just have a hard time believing he just hit the curb and blew a tire but who would be drunk or doing drugs on their way to spring training, no one except a complete brain dead moron and I don’t think Hanson is that (I hope). Very bizarre but I hope he’s OK. He probably feels silly but can’t mess with head injuries! I love that some of the position players have already reported, they are so eager to erase the stank of last year, I am in complete agreement!

I think you underestimate just how difficult it is to win a championship. Since the Braves won the WS in 1995, there have been 16 seasons and only 9 franchises that have won it all (STL 2, SF, NYY 5, PHI, BOS 2, CHIWS, FLA 2, LAA and AZ).
That means that in the past 16 seasons, more than 2/3’s of the teams have not been winners. The bottom line is that it takes a lot to win championships in any major sport (health, talent, and a little bit of luck).
Had the Braves not lost Hanson and JJ, and had Prado and Heyward been healthy, last September and October could have been a lot different. That’s just the harsh reality of sports. That’s also why most of us are hopeful for 2012, because if our guys manage to stay relatively healthy, there’s no reason why they can’t be one of the top teams.

I only had time to skim the paper this morning, but I recollect reading they only plan to stretch starters out to 4-5 innings at the end of Spring Training. If this is true, are they NUTS? Starters need to stretch out to at least SEVEN solid innings, if healthy.
Boy, I yearn for the “good old days”. Bob Gibson (and many others) used to pitch COMPLETE GAMES at the end of Spring Training. Pampering the starters to the extent they do today is just going to burn out the bullpen again.

DawgDad – you are absolutely right. The anemic offense and the inability of our starters to give us more than 5-6 innings on a consistent basis led to the Sept meltdown. More of the same to come. Don’t count on a full season from Hanson or JJ because history says they can’t endure it. The kool-aid drinkers believe a new hitting coach will cure Heyward (doubtful) and Prado is another guy with a history of getting injured, although he is a gamer when he’s in there. Add a 40-year old crippled 3rd baseman, an unproven SS, and a 1-demensional stone-handed 2B to the mix and you’ve got a very average team. No reason to expect better than 3rd in the improved NL east this year. Too bad, because we have probably the best back-end bullpen in MLB and we are good to very good at C, 1B, and CF. Just too many weaknesses elsewhere.

I don’t agree with every decision he makes by any means, but what else do you think he should have done in that final month? He only can use the players that are on the team. They had meetings about players and specific issues, and nothing worked. They folded but it wasn’t from a lack of effort. They just didn’t perform. It’s not like Fredi told the players to fail at the plate, they just could not execute.

Fan in Tampa – that’s a very measured, reasonable look at things. I’m with you in not seeing how in the world we can win. With a pitching staff staring at 4 starters on the DL before we know it, it won’t be pretty most likely.
We know Hudson is down, we know Hanson will be down (and he can’t even make day one of spring training w/o crashing), we know JJ will be down and we can pretty well guess that one of the remaining 2 will go down with a sore something.
If I see 25 guys on opening day that are in shape, faces clean shaven and with a minimum of goofing off and acting like idiots in the dugout and otherwise, then I’ll think we have a shot at something.

Stupid reasoning. The manager doesn’t have any direct control over the player’s abilities or how well they put them into play. It’s up to the players. They are the ones playing the game, not the manager.
If you won’t be going to the games and supporting the team until Fredi is fired, then I question why you are commenting on this blog at all. He’s obviously going to be with the team at least through this season, so you’re wasting your time commenting here.

Calm down, Rick. We didn’t hit a lick the entire season. FG hired the bonehead who “coached” in that area and did nothing with him, even in the face of clear evidence that he couldn’t have coaxed a ground ball to first out of Ted Williams in his prime.
He killed the bullpen in record fashion. He kept playing Wayward when the guy couldn’t do much more than ground out to the right side of the infield. He yanked every starter he could after 5 other than Hudson. He kept trotting what’s his name out there every 5th day when my driveway could see he was toast.
Is that at least a little better, Rick? Are you another of the dreaded blog cops who hates anything he doesn’t agree with?

Fredi certainly overused the pen last year–bringing in Venters with a 7 run lead is simply idiotic–but the starters saw the 7th inning about as often as TBS aired a Braves game.
