i wouldnt say sutton is terrible, but he definitely isnt the best we have heard over the years. his partner jim powell is pretty good, and unique.

It is a shame we have to wait though 25 to 30 meaningless games before we have real baseball. After two weeks of workouts it should take only about 15 games or so to be ready. All those ST games are played so owners can make more money.

I know they wouldn’t be in “official” workouts, but DOB has posted pictures of Chipper, Heyward, Prado, Hinske, and Freeman taking batting practice. While I understand the first 3 could be “rehabbing injuries”, Hinske and Freeman have no known injuries to rehab. How are they able to take BP?

Who knows. I guess it could be that they aren’t participating in “official” workouts, but they are free to use the facilities for their own workouts, which just happen to include having a coach throw them batting practice?

Don’t think so- I believe that only players that have officially reported can use the fields now. The other guys may be able to use the other cages, but can’t work out with the team… (could be wrong, but I think that’s the way it works once camp is open)

RC, as long as position players aren’t on the same field as pitchers and catchers in the “official workout,” they can take BP. They had all those guys on one field (the main field, to delight of fans who were here) taking batting practice and shagging flies, while the pitchers and catchers had their workouts on all the backfields.

RC: The only starting position players who aren’t here are Pastornicky/Wilson and Bourn. The first two are working out at Wilson’s house in California, on his private backyard infield. Bourn is working out with Univ. of Houston baseball team in his hometown.

Three of them, all corrected in 4-5 minutes when I got up to the pressbox and onto my laptop (filed them from phone). Originals were all deleted with Shay spelling, but once they’re on Twitter and someone retweets, the original could keep getting retweeted. Oh, well. I only wish that were biggest spelling mistake I’d make all spring.

Nah, missed that. Just knew you knew better, and have personally experienced what copyeditors can do to heads and cutlines.

Please indulge me in some personal cheering: Jacob Bruce, freshman at KSU in Kennesaw, in his first collegiate baseball game, went 3 for 3 which included a bunt for a hit, stole a base, broke up a double play and didn’t miss anything in LF. Got Player of the Game award.

btw – watched #20 to #1 of the 40 Oddest Plays of 2011 Season this a.m. on mlb. Pretty cool. Need to watch all 40, but some really bizarre stuff.

Not sure why it matters if Bourn is not in camp yet. He doesn’t have to be there until Friday. I’m sure he has a routine he follows every year…he’ll be in camp when he needs to be. Besides, asking guys to leave their homes for 8 months is enough- no reason to make them add an extra week that is not necessary. It’s not like they are sitting around playing video games and stuffing themselves. They are working out daily.

Please do not tell me people are complaining because some of the regulars have not shown up in camp. Really? Say it ain’t so. I see no one is admitting to a second favorite team. I grew up in Va and the O’s were my favorite as a kid. After a somewhat baseball journey was over, I landed in Richmond and was there for almost 3 yrs. in the mid to late 80’s. It was not uncommon to see Glav, Avery and a few others in the local Great Clips. Moved to Atlanta in 88 and the Braves became my favorite during that time. So I saw the real bad turn to an amazing run.

Ray yes there are actually people complaining that a couple of players have not shown up days before the required show up date. Unfrickinbelievable. Same types of people who bitch that on a 75 degree day that 3 clouds in the sky ruin it for them

Hello everyone! Fish does have great stuff,and with Roger,as pitching coach.Fish will work out his control issues,and I think Martinez will be the odd man out.Nice to have today off. If Martinez can continue to have solid outings,I might change my mind on him? Minor League numbers usually don’t mean anything,and there’s been good things said about Fish.
