Bay Area Steve, I just got tired of all the disciples of doom and gloom, so I wrote it so they could read facts instead of them embracing the collapse of 2011 and wraping themselves in it for the 2012 season.
We could just have been the Cardinals and gotten red hot at the end of the season and win the World Series just as they did. But, instead we had injuries and went cold instead.
The margin between winning and losing is a fine line when teams are close in talent.
February 13th, 20128:32 am
wow a 6 hour break in the blog…is my family all that survived…
February 13th, 20128:35 am
Walking Dead got most everybody on the blog last night it looks like
February 13th, 20128:47 am
cc – I agree, but it’s likely you’ll be called a blind homer and a kool aid drinker for your realistic outlook.
February 13th, 20128:51 am
Man I was just looking at how Hanson pitched when he got called up, his delivery was so much better than what it was last year. He threw faster, and was quicker to the plate, what happened?
Look at him recently:
February 13th, 20128:55 am
The Walking Dead got off to a strong start and it will be interesting to see which direction it takes us. It appeared to me that by the look on Herschel’s face at the end, he has renewed respect for Rick.
February 13th, 20129:00 am
Good Morning Everyone, Walking Dead was awesome last night! Just sitting here having a few cups of coffee. Can’t go to work cause it so cold, only like 27 right now. I do masonry so it has to be above freezing and atleast 40 and rising most of the time..
Voice of Harold
February 13th, 20129:10 am
ha, glad you qualified that, VaBravesFan. My first thought was “27??” and then I recalled Dana Carvey’s Jimmy Stewart imitation (”Wussy. Little Girl”). I try not to think of Dana Carvey (ever!), but that was a funny skit.
Walking Dead was pretty good. Time to cut Shane loose, though.
February 13th, 20129:12 am
Lew, I willing to bear that burden. I am sure the townfolk will soon be out with their Torches and Pitchforks.
I certainly understand the naysayers be down after the end of 2011, but the talent is still their and the young guns, Pitching and Hitting , are 1 year older and wiser.
So, they can just call me the Blind Kool Aid Drinker.
February 13th, 20129:14 am
Hanson, has lived transformations on his delivery to be quicker to the plate, and that has screwed his delivery big time
February 13th, 20129:15 am
ccrider, care to share some of that? It’s baseball season, people. How can any baseball fan be pessimistic before the first spring training pitch is thrown?
February 13th, 20129:17 am
Heh! Missed the WALKING DEAD thankfully. But DOWNTON MANOR was a serious tear jerker. And the WIZARDS won in the preamble.
February 13th, 20129:20 am
Lew: The Allman Brothers Band were supposed to be at the Grammy’s last night, but there was just a brief picture and acknowledgement of their lifetime achievement award.
I thought this was interesting: 3 of the 5 nominees for Blues Album of the Year were from the Allman’s:
Tedeschi Trucks Band: Revelator (Winner)
Gregg Allman: Low Country Blues
Warren Haynes: The Reflection
February 13th, 20129:28 am
allmans got their grammy for lifetime achievement on friday. you can go to “hittin the web” and see the full 22 minutes acceptance speech

Take a deep breath.OK!
Slowly watching the movies from your top 20 list the last few weeks. I really liked 50-50, Warrior,Bridesmaids, Moneyball. Drive was a different story, that movie was average at best. I looked up the reviews on it and most people agreed with me. What was it that you liked so much about it? So far 4 out of 5 aint bad and at $1.20 a pop at Redbox I can’t complain
February 13th, 20129:30 am
ken – Doesn’t surprise me. Seems to be kind of a lull in blues these days – or at least I haven’t been hearing of much movement in the genre.
Check out a cd by a friend and old classmate of mine – Dave Perkins, called Pistol City Holiness. It’s a year or so old, but pretty good stuff.
February 13th, 20129:31 am
semiballcoach: Thanks for that info.
February 13th, 20129:35 am
Lew: Thanks, I’ll look for that. Been listening to a lot of Gary Moore, I really miss him. Also 70s era Robin Trower.
February 13th, 20129:38 am
ken – been listening to a Thin LIzzy cd lately – one of their later ones – Black Rose. Great cd with Moore playing with the band he helped form as a kid. The title song is especially good.

Watched the Walking Dead last night. Unpredictable would be an understatement. You just never know what the writers of this show will drop on us next.
Back to baseball, Tommy’s revamped delivery is great news. Not only will he be quicker to the plate, I believe his velocity will benefit from the positive drive added by utilizing his legs.
Fifty-six players are on the spring training docket so far and there will be more, so sixty plus athletes makes for a busy grape fruit league for our Braves.
February 13th, 20129:59 am
The First time I have ever watch more than 5 minutes of the grammies last night…because the Hawks game was Brutal to watch….
Nuff respect for Adele, and the Foo Fighters
Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown are both Pop Tart Garbage!
February 13th, 201210:01 am
Manny Ramirez, Vladimir Guerrero, Maggs Ordonez, and Xavier Nady are all still available…
Pick your Poison…?
I’d take a Fyer on either Nady or Manny…
At least Manny would put people in the seats….
February 13th, 201210:12 am
THawkin – Nady sucks. He is shot and didn’t even have an OBP over .300 last year and barely the year before.
Ordonez also is about shot and barely had a .300 OBP last year.
Manny hasn’t even played for a year or so and has to serve a 50 game suspension IF he comes back.
Vlad? Maybe, but you seriously believe they can sign him for a mil or two? I’m not seeing it and he hasn’t hit against NL pitching for quite a few years now.
February 13th, 201210:13 am
I just watched The Allman Brothers Band Grammy acceptance speeches on their web site “hittin the web” (thanks semiballcoach). Very well done, everyone was there except Dickey and he wasn’t welcome by the other members of the band. I doubt they ever resolve that situation, but with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, who needs him?
February 13th, 201210:21 am
Manny, Nady, Vlad… all equally useless. Even if they were replacing another useless player in Diaz, still probably not much of an upgrade.
Nah, I’d rather go into the season with the team as it is than bring in some washed-up player just because he was once a big name.
Marshmallow Fruit Loops are The Bomb!
February 13th, 201210:23 am
“THawkin – Nady sucks. He is shot and didn’t even have an OBP over .300 last year and barely the year before.”
Nady was a Hot Name on here as recent as 18 months ago…What in the Heck Happened?
February 13th, 201210:25 am
Word on the street is that The Phillies are interested in the Afore-mentioned players I just mentioned….
Manny or Vlad hitting at CBP scares me…
February 13th, 201210:26 am
The Eagles are going to be at the Verizion Wireless Ampitheature…If It wasn’t so expensive, I’d go….
I will just stick to the Free Postgame concerts at the Ted….
February 13th, 201210:30 am
Vlad and Manny are big risks for any NL team, especially with their gloves… that’s a lot of money to pay for a PH.
At this point in their careers I wouldn’t be very worried seeing them come up against the Braves.
February 13th, 201210:34 am
.252/.299/.356 in 570 PA’s over two years happened. OPSed only .702 vs. lefties last year. probably isnt our guy, though i wouldnt hate a minor league contract for the guy.
February 13th, 201210:35 am
the above post is in reference to xavier nady.
DOB just mentioned the “semi-newness” of the blog on Twitter – curious to see if we get any wise and clever commentaries in the next few minutes…
February 13th, 201210:36 am
Of course, by “wise and clever” I do not necessarily mean “wise and clever”…
Wow, Jose Canseco to try for a team in the Mexican league….
He just needs to come out with another book…

That surprised me when you said that about Drive reviews, since I thought it was a terrific movie. So just now I looked it up on the Rotten Tomatoes website, which compiles reviews from most major outlets around the country. Sure enough, Drive had 93 percent positive reviews, making it one of the highest-rated major releases of the year. Not sure which reviews you were looking at beekay, but here’s the site if you’d like a look at any of the 223 reviews they compiled on Drive or any other movie.
Clever like a post you have to explain a minute later in an additional post?
February 13th, 201210:54 am
THawkin – Nady hasn’t had a decent season since 08 and has made a career on having two decent years out of a ten year career. Never have figured what the attraction for the Dude has been.. He’s been injured for quite some time and has put up decreasing numbers for three years now. Not a good fielder, has a weak arm and like DAP said – his numbers for the past two years are pretty bad.

Do you like singer Vince Gill?
February 13th, 201210:59 am
Thanx Ken but that is 90GB, I’m looking for at least 1.5 TB, 15 times larger. They don’t make solid state drives of that size as far as I know and if they did they would be hugely expensive

I think he signed with the Brewers?

DOB Tweet Fredi mentioned last week how well Chipper hit in limited PAs there. RT In replay to: @jp_edu: @ajcbraves let’s be realistic they won’t bat [Chipper] 2nd.
Well, at least Fredi notices some lineup strengths or weaknesses…
February 13th, 201211:10 am
Is Fredi talking about Chipper hitting welll in the second slot last year?
February 13th, 201211:14 am
I guess…but I mean, he hit OK in that spot last year, but it wasn’t anything outstanding…
In 7 games, (33 PAs) .267 AVG, .273 OBP, .467 SLG 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 2B, 1 BB (iBB), 8 K’s, 1 GDP, 2 SF, 1 ROE
Here is where i saw the reviews only 2 out of 5 stars average with 1400 people reviewing.
I should have checked those numbers before I posted my 11:05…
JJJ – right you are. Just pulled up their roster. He and Gonzo landed there.
February 13th, 201211:15 am
DRIVE was rated an 8.0 at IMDB,. That is pretty high but not super.
I thought it was good but i was surprised that DOB rated it that high too
February 13th, 201211:16 am
His career BA in the #2 spot is .302 in 61 PAs (53 ABs), so that’s pretty good. And like Fredi said, limited PAs…
he hit better almost everywhere else that he batted
February 13th, 201211:19 am
True that. Ah…poor Fredi…
I mean, we also saw how long it took him to take BMac out of the #3 spot after he came back from his DL stint and clearly was not…doing well…
February 13th, 201211:23 am

February 13th, 201211:34 am
beekay you need to start reading IMDB. the biggest video site on the web. and their ratings are usually pretty close IMO. Certainly Drive was much better than a 2 outta 5.

Billy Beane did it again…sign the Big Cuban Cespedes.
February 13th, 201212:23 pm
I wish I could make it out for some ST games this season… unfortunately it just isn’t in the cards.
Going for a whole week next year, though. I’ll be dressing my kids up in Braves’ jerseys in the hope that they can sweet talk their way into a bunch of player autographs for daddy.
maybe you can fly the team down……

So the rebuilding A’s sign Cespedes? Another outfielder?
That makes their current outfield to be Seth Smith, Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick, Collin Cowgill, Michael Taylor, Johnny Gomes and the newly signed Cespedes. I’m sure Gomes will DH quite a bit, but that’s a serious logjam with Taylor and Reddick really needing major league at bats to show if they can stick there.
Is Beane just bored?
February 13th, 201212:35 pm
Cespedes prolly in the minors??
February 13th, 201212:37 pm
I think nolie just told us the story of King Tutankhamun’s death, but my heiroglyphic translation may be a little rusty.
February 13th, 201212:40 pm
good’un Hillbilly. glad sumbody got sumthang outta it
February 13th, 201212:41 pm
Cespedes will be in the minor for a few months….I think he make a good business decision to sign with the A’s….no presure there…different in Miami with all the Cuban Fan want him to produce right away…this Guy has to face MLB pitcher for awhile until he’s ready.
February 13th, 201212:42 pm
6 years 36 Mill for Cespedes???
Are our Owners That Cheap to not even pursue Cespedes????
6 years 36 mill is a Bargain for a potential 20-20 player
February 13th, 201212:46 pm
It will be interesting to see if the A’s start Cespedes in the minors. Many believe that is where he should start. That came out of no where. It was all about the Marlins and maybe a few other teams. I don’t think anyone thought the A’s were in the mix.
February 13th, 201212:49 pm
“I don’t think anyone thought the A’s were in the mix.”
No, BSPN as well as MLB Network was way off point in saying that he was gonna sign with the Marlins….
February 13th, 201212:50 pm
Tomahawkin …you said it…”Potential”….this can be another Kawakami type of Player….this guy never face MLB pitcher…i saw some video and he got a big Hole in his swim.
I bet Loria and company are getting tired of the AL West peeing on his rug all winter.
February 13th, 201212:51 pm
It’s 4 years, $36M from what I saw- that’s $9 million a year for someone that has only played in the Cuban leagues. That is a HUGE risk for such a question mark of a player. It may pay off…it may be a total disaster…
February 13th, 201212:52 pm
If cepedes can hit MLB…Billy will trade him in a couple yrs…count of that.
February 13th, 201212:53 pm
Sure would be, I wonder where we can find one.
February 13th, 201212:54 pm
Also, apparently he really hurt his value while playing in the Dominican- scouts discovered he is still, basically, a work in progress. Teams like Oakland, with no real expectations that they will compete this season, can take a risk like that with little concern that it will cost them in the long run.
Where did you get the 411…?
Kawakami wasn’t that bad of a pitcher, give him the Yankees run support and he could win 15 games….
February 13th, 201212:57 pm
Tomahawkin ….agree about KK…i was refere to a big contract with a player never play in a MLB
