Joe have you seen the kid play SS? I am guessing not. There are many reports out there some negative some positive. Until we see him through spring training and into the season, there will not be a solid evaluation. Uggla slow start? He had a slow start with us. Are you able to predict that JJ will only pitch a half a season? These are opinions based on a negative viewpoint. Not based on facts. The example is your prediction of JJ pitching for a half season.

Yes Ray I have seen this kid play, and I can tell you Rafael Ramirez, noo Andres Tomas was a better SS!

I didn’t realize you were an expert scout. By the way are you saying the rangers, yanks D backs and Rays do not have question marks? Just based on your evaluations of a pitching staff, the Yanks have a few question marks. The rangers moving their closer to a starter, that is not a question mark on how he will perform? Really?

see history Ray on JJ, two years in a row on the DL any reason to think this will change, this guy has given the Braves a total average of 134 innings in each of the last 2 years, I am basing JJ on facts sir!
116.2 ip in 2011
152.0 ip in 2010 an average of 134 ip. there is your proof.

The fact of the last 2 seasons. That is not a fact for this year. It is an opinion for this year. THAT is a fact. Based on history as you put it, then Uggla will not struggle. McCann you mentioned doughnuts, how is that a fact and not a shot and an opinion? I am not saying be a homer. And the Nat’s winning the NL East a fact or an opinion? Just curious.

DOB,

I offer thanks for a great article and a head’s up that you described Hanson as 6′4 and then 6′6. Personally, I don’t think its a mistake, i think this new pitching motion is so beneficial he is growing at a rate of a half inch per paragraph.

oh and joe your stats about the braves batting 4th. how about getting at least 1 fact correct not opinion. Look at MLB splits and there were only 2 teams, Tigers and Rangers having a higher avg than the Braves. THAT is a fact sir. Not an opinion.

The Braves are a contender—but they need to stay clear of major injuries because they are incredibly thin after their starting 8. Their pitching, however, has good depth. I don’t think we’ll even miss Hudson in April.

Braves are a bit thin in the position players and cannot afford any major injuries especially to the outfield or at first. Pitching wise Braves could handle it a bit.

Not drinking kool aid. I just threw out a fact and you are throwing out opinions. Which is cool but don’t list an opinion as a fact. Here is a link as far as batting fourth. This is a fact not an opinion. 2 teams ahead of the Braves.

Ward – Not so sure how you can claim that Lemmer hurt us in the post season. His career numbers for Regular Season were .246, .317, .324, .641, but in the Post Season, he hit .272, .335, .353, .688 with 10 2B, 3 3B and a HR in 11 Post season series.

Seems to me he kicked it up a notch in the playoffs.

I’ve been talking with some die-hard Braves fans who, in the past, have always been overwhelmingly positive heading into new seasons. This is not the case for 2012. Last season definitely burned a lot of fans out there.

Do the Braves have question marks of course they do. Every team does. Joe threw out a couple of teams that he deemed have no question marks at all like the Yanks and the Rangers. Pitching on both teams are big question marks. But anyways IMO, it is an opinion and not a fact, that the Braves actually have less question marks this year than last year.

Will you look at this “cynical, ink-stained wretch”? I thought for a minute I was reading a Roger Angell piece, DOB. Nice work (as usual).

Hey folks, I have an opportunity to toss out there. A friend of mine who is family friends with Brian McCann says Brian is looking for a new Web administrator for his website, http://www.brian-mccann.com, which exists mostly to publicize his charity, the Rally Foundation. It’s not a paid position, but it’s a cool treat for any Braves-loving techie with web skills. If you’re interested, post a comment saying so and we’ll work out how to get you the contact info.

The biggest and best move the Braves made was getting rid of Lowe. The guy lost 17 games last year. Plug one of the kids in his spot and I highly doubt they will lose 17. Injuries can derail any team’s season, we just have to hope they don’t have to deal with too many. This is a playoff team barring Amy major, long term setbacks. Everyone needs to relax. We’ve got people calling “ballgame” before pitchers and catchers even report. It’s ridiculous.

The Rangers have as many Question marks as any team in baseball,The biggest being can Hamilton stay healthy(and sober).I love the player but it is a big question mark.Several other questions as to their pitching .The Yankees are getting old lots of questions there as well.

Bravefan, that is exactly my point. We can look just at the teams that had big signings, Tigers, Angels, even Rangers, Yanks, and Phils, all have question marks at this time of the year. Some are big question marks and some not so big. Most of those questions will not really be answered til we get to June.

How delightful to see so many blog postings today – if we stand on our tiptoes we can see baseball season. And that makes me happy.

Whitney was my generation’s version of Beyonce. Beautiful, voice of an angel, she was everywhere in the late 80’s early 90’s. She had a squeaky clean image, was a shocker when she married Bobby Brown then in later years we saw what they had in common. Saw pics of her out on the town and looking fubar just the other day. A sad end to what once was a charmed life.

Thanks for the new blog, DOB. It occurs to me that as much as we fans dislike Scott Boras as an agent, is it remotely possible that Tommy changing to him might have helped Tommy recognize he needed to make the change in his mechanics? I don’t know if it did or not. Just a thought. And if that change helps Tommy stay healthy and pitch well throughout the season (and maybe cut down on the steals as a bonus), I don’t care where it came from. What’s good for Tommy is good for the Braves!
