And even if you can find a way to get it there, there is no guarantee that A) the government would let it get passed the airport or B) you would find a suitable place to distribute it without causing problems…
CAB, CR did the distributing. Concur on the difficulty of getting stuff in, and no, they weren’t required to do anything. But, it still seems like a tightwad tactic.
I think I didn’t make my point clear- I know Carroll did the distributing, but it’s not like she could just tote around mass amounts of Braves gear, looking for a suitable place to give it away. And since the trip had nothing to do with the Braves, the fact that they sent anything at all is a bonus.
With the 25 year TV contract, Carroll was lucky to get 10 hats. You don’t realize how bad a deal this is and it certainly explains why Braves only subtracted during the off-season. Media rights are the future of baseball and now we are informed that Braves just opted out and signed a long-term low income TV deal. Just think, we’re going to be a dollar late and a day short until I can’t remember who my favorite team is. Heck, I’ve only been a Braves fan since 1947.
Mine’s totally different…the Tweets are all kind of squished on the other side of the page, and if I click on one, it doesn’t show any conversation or anything like it used to…it’s annoying. Sometimes I like to see what people are replying, but I don’t know if I cann now…
Oh, well, there it came up with some conversation…even still, I liked the old way better…
the only hope that the Braves have with the TV deal is if it becomes painfully obvious to the team and the TV execs that the current deal not only hurts the team but hurts the ratings since the deal hamstrings the Braves. Even then, I don’t see the TV execs offering the Braves anything more than a slight adjustment
Bill James’ forecast on Heyward looks a lot what many here have projected. I agree that he went way under with Chipper’s games played. I think he also underestimates Chipper’s numbers
the Braves will be in good shape if Heyward, Freeman, Prado, Uggla, etc., reach Bill James’ projections. Of course I would rather see these guys do it consistently over the season and not hit .150 with minimal power for 3 months then get all their numbers over a 4 week stretch
One of my best friends works alongside some top Braves people, including GM Frank Wren, and he’s pretty convinced Jurrjens will be traded before the season even begins. They really want a left fielder to have Prado go back to a super sub role that will in turn strengthen a pretty weak bench. No names of an outfielder mentioned obviously, but they still are pinning their hopes Jurrjens has a spring to show he is good to go after battling injuries again last year to have a team deal for him. They also would love to get Teheran cranked up for the new season in Atlanta and not AAA. Moving Jurrjens would make this more possible it appears.
I really hope Jurrgens is not traded. With Hudson’s back surgery, Medlen recovering from TJ and Hanson’s shoulder issues… if Jair is traded then we would be placing a lot of innings and pressure on Minor/Beachy/Teheran.
Saw the movie “Drive”,and liked it a lot. Very good tense movie, and it reminded me of Crash. The way it was directed. Should win some Oscars for best motion picture.Very good, and well done movie.
I would think that if all the pitchers were progressing well in the spring, Frank Wren might be convinced to listen to offers for Jurrjens. He’d be crazy not to.
But his value might be elevated after showing well for a half a season.

Pawn Stars is staged, I think. I just love how they can always “call my expert buddy down here” whenever they want. These experts can leave their jobs whenever they want to help out some guys at a pawn shop? Another suspicious thing is how a customer walks up to them with something and the shop is almost always empty or near empty. I think most of those customers are paid actors as well as the “experts”.
————————————————————————————————————–
The items, customers and deals are real, but the filming of them is staged. People line up during the day just to get in the shop because of the popularity of the show. The Producers hand pick the ones they want for the show and ask them to return at a set time (usually after midnight when the store is set for filming) That way they line up the experts and everything else that goes into the production. All of the general shots are taped during the day when the shop is crowded.
I kinda doubt JJ will be traded during the spring.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Yea, me too. However, never say never as stranger things have happened. Just look at the end of the 2011 season and this past off season, nothing has followed what would be considered normal so far……
A lot of spring training deals happen out of necessity. If another team losses a pitcher to injury during camp they may make Wren a offer for JJ he’s comfortable with.
I sincerely doubt that Jurrjens will be traded at least until a couple months into the season. It’s very possible Hudson won’t be ready at the start of the season, and if they traded Jurrjens during spring training that would leave the team with a very inexperienced pitching staff. Delgado and Teheran have what, maybe 10 starts total combined in the majors? Would not be a smart move IMO.
The Rockies gave up Jason Hammel (age 28 / 7-13 4.76 ERA) and Matt Lindstrom (age 31 / 2-2 3.00 ERA 2 saves) for Jeremy Guthrie (age 32 / 9-17 4.33). Talk about spitting in the wind except for the 8.2 million the Rockies will pay for Guthrie in 2012, and then he hits free agency. Verdict: The Rockies got hosed.
A lot of spring training deals happen out of necessity. If another team losses a pitcher to injury during camp they may make Wren a offer for JJ he’s comfortable with.
Will not happen.
Jurrjens will be with the Braves for all of 2012. The only way he is traded this season is if the Braves fall out of the race.
If some other team finds it needs a starter, there are a plethora of starters who were available via trade this off-season who did not get traded. There are still starters on the market waiting to be signed.
Think back a few years. The Braves stated they were a “contender.” Spring Training came and they needed a starter. Who’d they get, contenders that they were? They signed a free agent baseball Tee and gave him the home opener. The opponents subsequently teed off on him. What did the Braves, contenders, not do? They did not trade for an impact pitcher.
I really hope Jurrgens is not traded. With Hudson’s back surgery, Medlen recovering from TJ and Hanson’s shoulder issues… — ColoradoBravesFan
Those are reasons I don’t think he will be, not unless Hudson’s back comes along faster than anyone expects. Even then, trading JJ would be gamble given relative inexperience of the rotation, and Hanson’s shoulder issues last season. For what it’s worth, Jayson Stark has column up listing five players likely to be traded this spring, including three starting pitchers. JJ isn’t on his list.
And then there is Jurrjens January 30th interview with Andy Johnston where JJ answered this question:
Q: How would you rate yourself going into spring training?
A: Eighty percent, for sure. The first couple of weeks of rehab were slow because we were trying to figure out what was going on with my knee. I kept getting pain in my knee, but we figured it out, and everything’s been going good, schedule wise.
Is this an attempt to broaden his appeal? For me, not a particularly interesting interview. I am guessing that DOB/Carroll would have achieved a more intimate/revealing interview.
I am definitely not trying to jump on JJ, who has been my favourite pitcher to watch (bar Kimbrel). Just this stuck me as a weird occurrence.
I suppose some have already said it, if so, sorry about it.
My opinion is that the best move that Frank has done this off season is to stay put and not moving anyone anywhere.
We are set with a 25 man roster that 80% of the teams in the league only can dream of. And the 17% remaining have lots of respect for. So why change the plan.
Im pretty sure Frank made an effort to get us an OF for the benefit of the team. He couldnt do it with out compromising the teams future, so he didnt pull the trigger.
We need to deal with it.
My opinion is the same as some have posted. Our SP staff is very deep, but with lots of q marks (surgeries, 2011 injuries, inexperience, no experience at all). To move JJ right now would not be smart, that my point of view. We have 3 excellent starters in the OF, 2 of them had a horrible 2011 but had a great 2010. If the could get back to form and join Bourn to the party, we will start hearing some firecrackers. No need to commit the same error we made with Texeira a few seasons ago.
I doubt JJ sought out FOX Sports Detroit to write the story on him… I’m guessing the reporter asked JJ for an interview, and JJ said yes.
I wouldn’t read too much into it.
Not to mention the interview was done by Fox’s Braves reporter Andy Johnson, not the Detriot reporter. Fox Sports Detriot simply ran the interview since they had access as part of the Fox Sports company.
Sometime over the winter, DOB reported that they had figured out that Jurrjens had a freakishly short toe and were fitting him with New Shooz. This was prolly what JJ referred to in the recent interview about “pain in his knee” and “figuring things out.”
His 80% comment prolly means that he’s starting to get back into “baseball shape” but is not in peak form yet. I doubt that it refers to healing from injury at this late date.
I guess DOB or CR need to try to swing an interview with the Buffett-meister and see if he’s looking to take over the Braves.
It actually does raise an interesting question. Since LM is publicly traded and owns the Braves, can someone make a play and get into the owner club by the servant’s entrance by buying LM, rather than buying the Braves outright. Does MLB have any say in who buys and sells LM?
Buffett doesn’t actually go hostile, he just buys enough for control. Then, mildly shakes his head in disapproval when a board of directors takes stupid. That’s usually enough.
ncscoots, February 15th, 2012, 11:47 am … “Did they actually fit him with nu shooz or just throw on a knee brace? I can’t remember reading anything definitive.”
I think the trainer said, “JJ, we’re getting some Nu Shooz” and Jurrjens said, “I can’t wait.”
NOTE: I don’t know how much longer I can milk this pun, but I’m running with it for all I’m worth.
I guess DOB or CR need to try to swing an interview with the Buffett-meister and see if he’s looking to take over the Braves.
Profit margins on a ball club are too thin to meet Berkshire-Hathaway’s criteria. Bet Buffett would be a good owner, though he probably wouldn’t meet Joe Sheehan’s criteria for such.
Orthotics are a shoe insert that fits to your foot and compensates for foot issues so you can walk normally. If a podiatrist makes them for you they cost about $400.
I hereby bestow… stuff… on Warren Buffett. Live up to what the community has bestowed upon thee or I shall switch my car insurance from Geico to some other provider you do not own. Like Farmers. You’ll rue the day you did not live up to bestowation.
I thought orthotics were white nurse looking shoes… JJ better color those with a Sharpie before he steps on the mound or he’ll never hear the end of it.

Common sense alone dictates trading Jurrjens and Lord knows I hate trading starting pitching.
1. Minor, Teheran and Delgado are ready to start in Atlanta.
2. Trading JJ will free up much needed payroll to the tune of 5.5 million.
3. Yes, they do need help in the outfield which JJ can be traded for.
4. Prado can still play LF but he can also be utilized in a utility role, thereby strengthening the Braves bench.
5. Without Jurrjens our depth chart is still deep: Hudson, Hanson, Beachy, Minor, Teheran, Delgado, Medlen, Spruill and Gilmartin.

I’m really hoping for an extension for Bourn before the season starts. I think the Braves relying more on speed will make them a better team.

Warren Buffet owns the Braves now? It sounds like a slow take-over, but a take-over nonetheless. Anti-LibertyMedeites rejoice!

Did they actually fit him with nu shooz or just throw on a knee brace? I can’t remember reading anything definitive.

Warren Buffet’s hostile take-over of the Braves
Buffett doesn’t actually go hostile, he just buys enough for control. Then, mildly shakes his head in disapproval when a board of directors takes stupid. That’s usually enough.

I think the trainer said, “JJ, we’re getting some Nu Shooz” and Jurrjens said, “I can’t wait.”
NOTE: I don’t know how much longer I can milk this pun, but I’m running with it for all I’m worth.
Here’s a reprise from Talking Chop mentioning the issue and concluding that he had been fitted with “orthotics.” In my book, that’s Nu Shooz (but it could be a knee brace).
