One more thing…
Upon doing some Goggling, I just found out that “Threaten Me With Heaven” is a nominee for ACM Song of the Year! That’s pretty cool…hope it wins! That’s Vince Gill’s only nomination…
February 14th, 20125:40 pm
You sure can tell when it’s quitting time on the East Coast.
Or nap time… a day full of blogging wears the older guys out.
I like to picture nolie and Lew in their favorite green leather chairs, worn from decades of use, snoozing away while Wheel of Fortune plays ridiculously loud in the background on their 13″ black and white TV. A half-eaten salisbury steak dinner sits on the TV tray next to them and they have their alarms set to wake them up for the Matlock reruns at 7.
February 14th, 20125:46 pm
How did you know?
February 14th, 20125:51 pm
I’ve seen the movie Grumpy Old Men…
My leather chair is black and my tv show is Bonanza but that pretty much summed me up.
So many blogs lol.
February 14th, 20125:53 pm
Heh! Everything’s spot on except the tv. They’ve got the new digital version 42″ flat screens wall mounted. The ones that allow the government to look into your viewing tastes and see exactly where you are, and where you’ve been.
February 14th, 20125:54 pm
Chuckle! Good ‘un.
February 14th, 20125:57 pm

February 14th, 20126:00 pm
Way to go Murph.
February 14th, 20126:02 pm
Hey, CB, my Sister likes Bonanza!…
Funny, but seriously, the last tv series I watched religiously before ‘PORN STARS’ and ‘AMERICAN PICKERS’ was the ‘ROCKFORD FILES’. Now it’s ‘MASTERPIECE THEATER.’ Only my wife’s got religion regarding ‘THE WHEEL.”
February 14th, 20126:04 pm
Finally Bought My Athlon Sports Baseball Magazine with B-Macc on the cover
And its filled with a Gang of interesting tidbits about Dem Braves…
A lot of which hasn’t been mentioned on here….
February 14th, 20126:05 pm
McFann, smart girl. Maybe she can influence you.
February 14th, 20126:06 pm
As Much as I ripped Ugg the first 2 months…I just found out that he led the league in Homers when team was trailing with 29, higher than Pujols… (27)
February 14th, 20126:12 pm
-I forgot Fab 5 Freddie led the team in batting average despite being a rookie
-Braves were 28-14 in Rossy’s starts, and 9-5 with Huddy on the hill
-Puzzling…BB only had 7 wins in 25 starts because his run support was Garbage, not to mention BB always seem to have 1 inning where it was known as “Implosion Time”
-Lowe failed to go 6innings in 7 out of 14 starts in the 2nd half, and lost his last 5 starts
-B-Macc .180, 16 rbis in his final 37 games, that damn Oblique injury killed him when he was on pace for a “Career Year”
February 14th, 20126:13 pm
richrave, who’s your favorite porn star?
February 14th, 20126:16 pm
Ugg, had a tough season. He worked hard, and showed leadership. This may be a tremendous year for him. If he starts off hot, it could be ugly for opposing pitchers throughout the season. He is the type of player that can carry a team for a couple of weeks.
February 14th, 20126:18 pm
Last but not least…
The Magazine Mentions that
“Fredi, enters the season determined not to over use the back end of the bullpen as he admittedly did in the first half of 2011. The Braves lack of offense and propensity for extra inning games didn’t make it any easier”
If Fredi doesn’t make the playoffs this year, he will be on the hot seat
-Also Mentions that with any team employed running game…The Pastor is capable of stealing 20 bases and they like his grit…
February 14th, 20126:21 pm
Pawn Stars is staged, I think. I just love how they can always “call my expert buddy down here” whenever they want. These experts can leave their jobs whenever they want to help out some guys at a pawn shop? Another suspicious thing is how a customer walks up to them with something and the shop is almost always empty or near empty. I think most of those customers are paid actors as well as the “experts”.
February 14th, 20126:23 pm
Mentions some of our prospects that I’m getting 1st reviews of….
SS Andrelton Simmons (22) Cannon Armed SS who added Carolina League batting title to his surprisingly offensive repertoire
3B Joey Terdoslavich (23) Potential Chipper Jones Heir hit Carolina League Record 52 doubles and was a standout in the Arizona Fall League
February 14th, 20126:26 pm
If the Pastor Starts Braves will enter the season with 3 players 22 years or younger, the last team to do that and win the NL Pennant was the 1970 reds
February 14th, 20126:31 pm
I have talked about the kid playing ss and I do believe fans are going to love this kid with his speed and his hunger and down right hustle on everything. The only thing I hope (guessing it will though) is when Pastor struggles a little over a weekend in ST the naysayers will say see I told you so. The kid has no skills, etc.
February 14th, 20126:33 pm
-The Braves Played 26 Extra inning games last year, one shy of the 1943 Braves (27), OUCH
-The Braves Bullpen pitched 54 Extra Inning Innings last year…The equilivalent of 6 extra Games, Double OUCH!!!
I’m not a Stat Geek, but these stats are really indicative and can better describe why the Bricks fell, during the collapse….
February 14th, 20126:35 pm
I can’t Rip The Pastor because he is Not being paid 15 Million to Suck, like Lowe did Last year…
February 14th, 20126:38 pm
Ray, you hope they do or don’t say that?
February 14th, 20126:40 pm
This line is a lot funnier if you read it before rich’s comment. Which I did
February 14th, 20126:45 pm
This Magazine also is pretty confident that George (Constanza) makes the bench
I like Constanza because of his speed, but I wouldn’t take that to the bank…
It also is saying that Teheran will start the season in AAA and the team will be in no rush to bring him up because we have so much starting pitching depth….
The only way teheran gets called up before July 1st is if the starting pitching staff gets the injury bugs or Either Big Red or Double J (or Both) are traded….I’m Banking on the later to happen for Teheran to be on the regular roster in 2011….
February 14th, 20126:46 pm
You mean literally?
February 14th, 20126:49 pm
And Word on The Street (Athlon Sports Baseball Magazine) Is That Matt Lipka will be the CF of the Future once The Bourne Identity Leaves…
Basing the Fact that the Braves love Lipka’s speed and are loaded on Future SS’s
Seeing Matt Lipka in S. Training will be something to take notice of…
It has been marked down on the pages….
February 14th, 20126:51 pm
Costanza did hit .373 in his 1st 23 games after being called up…and he has speed…He would be a good defensive/speed replacement in LF in the late innings
More Bill James projections:
Brian McCann .276 avg, .360 OBP, .484 slug (.844 OPS), 33 doubles, 24 HR, 88 RBI
Martin Prado .289/.339/.423 (.763), 32 doubles, 11 HR, 56 RBI
February 14th, 20126:56 pm
DOB, what do you think? 110 sure sounds low to me or at least I hope it is. — New Mexico Lee
I think it’s a little low, considering Chipper’s 126 games last year came despite a stint on DL for midseason knee surgery, and was his lowest games-played total in five years.
February 14th, 20126:57 pm
February 14th, 20126:59 pm
I’m Shooting for 125 games for Chipper
Chuck Oliver called 120…so its safe to guess 120-130 games…
February 14th, 20127:01 pm
By the way, anyone who hasn’t read Carroll’s outstanding story on Cuban baseball should do so immediately. Terrific stuff, which she wrote after visiting the island on a church mission this month. Here’s the link:
February 14th, 20127:08 pm
NM, I am hoping they don’t say that about the kid when he struggles but they probably will.
February 14th, 20127:11 pm
My question is Bourn just an outfielder for 2 years,or will he be a player the Braves want to build around? I would like the Braves to keep Bourn, but if Lipka is better, than go with him after 2 years. In others words is bourn just a rental until Lipka is ready?
Seeing Matt Lipka in S. Training will be something to take notice of… — Tomahawkin
Lipka won’t be in big-league spring training. He’s not on the non-roster invitee list and hasn’t played above low-A. He very well could be the CF of the future, but too early to tell since he’s so young and inexperienced, and is going to be playing the position for the first time this season after switching to CF during the instructional league last fall. So to say he’ll be ready to take over in CF next year (if Bourn leaves after the 2012 season) is a bit of a stretch.
February 14th, 20127:13 pm
Sure would hate to lose a leadoff man,who has experience, and blazing speed. Would still like Bourn in Center, and see if Lipka can play left field.
February 14th, 20127:16 pm
I would sign Bourn for a 4 to 5 year deal. See If Lipka can play left field?
February 14th, 20127:18 pm
From what DOB just wrote, I’m betting Lipka is 3-4 years away at the minimum…
February 14th, 20127:19 pm
You were right about Springsteen’s broken guitar string. I had to play that last part back a few times, but you can see him grabbing it with his left hand and shaking it. They were laughing about it.
Ward I agree, but i don’t know if the Braves would drop 13-14m per year on Bourn. I am guessing low end would be 12m per.
February 14th, 20127:21 pm
You will also notice Paul’s band guys took over playing a lot more after that- Bruce and Dave seemed to be laughing pretty good. I actually can’t really believe I noticed it live…
February 14th, 20127:22 pm
Cab-I was just thinking that too.I wouldn’t rush Lipka.Teach him to play Left field too.
February 14th, 20127:24 pm
Braves can work out a contract like Uggla during the season.Bourn could settle like Uggla?
February 14th, 20127:25 pm
victorino will probably be cf next year
February 14th, 20127:30 pm
February 14th, 20127:31 pm
ward the problem with bourn is his agent .mr bore us
All of their other programing is stuff like the “Tuesday Night Movie”, where they will play some crappy movie from the 90’s 3 times in a row. I think I saw an ad for Arachnaphobia the other day
not a crappy movie IMO
February 14th, 20127:32 pm
“victorino will probably be cf next year”
I likes That Idea for 2013
I will be Lusting for McCurchen (Once Again) and Pestorino, assuming that The Bourne Supremacy leaves….
February 14th, 20127:35 pm
Bad idea for the Braves to let Bourn go,and I will say it early.
February 14th, 20127:38 pm
boras is probably going to want at least a 6 year contract,
i don’t know whether anyone will give him one, but i highly doubt
the braves even consider it
February 14th, 20127:41 pm
Braves better,or else it’s thier own loss, and it will be a painful loss, and I’ll leave it at that.Braves need to show they are commtted,or it will be a painful.
February 14th, 20127:42 pm
You know if you guys aren’t careful, you’re going to lose me
February 14th, 20127:43 pm
In theory I agree it would be a bad idea to let Bourn go. But if he signs some crazy number like 14-16m a year, no thanks. I would rather see the Braves go in a different direction than over pay for Bourn.
February 14th, 20127:44 pm
ya going skiing jeffrey?
February 14th, 20127:46 pm
whoosh used to be my nickname when i was young and skied
sorta like bodie miller. i had the crashes like him anyway…..lol
February 14th, 20127:47 pm
CB smart girl. Maybe she can influence you.
Haha! Well, I’ve still got my hands full with DuckTales…
DOB More Bill James projections:…Brian McCann .276 avg, .360 OBP, .484 slug (.844 OPS), 33 doubles, 24 HR, 88 RBI
HECK yeah! Bring it!…
February 14th, 20127:52 pm
who knew that tomahawkin could read?????
February 14th, 20127:55 pm
whoosh is Jeffrey’s nickname, but for an entirely different reason
February 14th, 20127:57 pm
gonna hafta scold Bill James for including RBI in his predictions, everybody knows it is entirely dependent on the team….
The future Braves for me.
Bourn Center field
Terd 3rd base,after Chipper
Thats the way I like it.
February 14th, 20127:58 pm
Lipka is never gonna play LF
February 14th, 20128:00 pm
gonna hafta scold Bill James for including RBI in his predictions, everybody knows it is entirely dependent on the team…. — nolie
He includes runs, too. Always has.
February 14th, 20128:03 pm
true, but we don’t read quite as much here about how irrelevant they are as we do RBI
February 14th, 20128:05 pm
Well, all have a good one!We all have a way we would like the Braves to be. We will have to wait ,and see. Talk later, and peace………
February 14th, 20128:07 pm
true ward, but nobody else’s way is as good as mine
Interesting stuff TOMAHARKIN passed on to us.
February 14th, 20128:12 pm
My Pastornicky projection for ‘12 .277 – 4 – 45 – .348
This with very average defense at short.
February 14th, 20128:14 pm
“nobody else’s way is as good as mine”.
February 14th, 20128:18 pm
What is your definition of very average defense. How many on here would admit they were completely wrong in regards to the kid at ss if he posts .270 -2 – 20- 355 12sb and 9 e’s at the all-star break
February 14th, 20128:19 pm
What did the guys get their ladies for V-Day? I already know Shaun’s boyfriend got him a muzzle, and nolie got his wife a picture of himself, but what about everybody else.
if he hits 277/348 I will be happy as a bug in a rug
February 14th, 20128:20 pm
What’s that reason? Or are you not going to say since it woooshed me?
no longer have a wife, she could not put with the pressure of trying to live up to my level of perfection
February 14th, 20128:22 pm
Ray, just average old defense. IDK about all them numbers you posted there … just defense that makes me say “you little idiot! GO BACK TO AAA” and then sometimes he makes me say “decent play kid -yeah, he can be alright out there sometimes”
I suspect it was something else she could no longer put up with
February 14th, 20128:23 pm
pained me but I had to let her go. gave her a good reference though
February 14th, 20128:25 pm
nolie, ok then, just put “ex” in front of the word “wife” on my 8:19 post.
“What did the guys get their ladies for V-Day? I already know Shaun’s boyfriend got him a muzzle,”
February 14th, 20128:26 pm
Why would he give his ex-wife a Valentine’s Day present?
February 14th, 20128:28 pm
cause I is so sweet and lovable Jeffrey. I knew a picture of me would make her life brighter
I’m starting to get that excited feeling about the season again. I hate ST because it’s too long and I get antsy when opening day creeps closer, but guys like Hanson, JJ, Heyward and Pastornicky should be some fun things to watch this spring.
February 14th, 20128:29 pm
Because he’s nice like that.
CTB, be pleasantly surprised with his D and his overall performance. He is going to make rookie mistakes, no doubt. He is going to have one of those 5-8 game streaks where he struggles at the plate. But watch his hustle, the way he plays and at the end of the season he will be around 270 350 and around 19 E’s. And he will have a couple of game winning gap shots. The vets are going to take this kid under their wing and he is going to thrive on it.
February 14th, 20128:30 pm
Are you extending a middle finger in this picture?
I am Soph, and thank you for recognizing it
February 14th, 20128:31 pm
jeffrey, because he’s nolie.
February 14th, 20128:32 pm
actually me ex and I get along swell Jeffrey. we correspond regularly and get together once in a while though not so much since my health limits my travel now
That was my quota of nice for the day. Sorry to everyone else.
February 14th, 20128:33 pm
Oh…I wasn’t even sure there was an ex and this was all an elaborating joke
February 14th, 20128:34 pm
I think Brian needs a picture of nolie too
$100 million payroll and the Braves donated 10 hats for the Cuban kids. 10?! Really?!
Ray, I just don’t know much of anything on TP other than wht DOB and some bloggers have written here. Who would know anyways … nolie! Tell us Senior.
February 14th, 20128:35 pm
Are we doing our fantasy league this year, jd?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
