I stepped away from here for a few hours. The bottom line is you cannot put together an optimum lineup strictly 100% by computer/data. There are too many factors that cannot be measured by data for an optimum lineup. I promise you, if there was, teams would be using it. There is not a manager out there that would not be using it. There are human factors that go into making a lineup. One example is the mental aspect of a hitter in a certain spot. I am saying, using data to enhance the manager’s knowledge is important and useful.

I was channel surfing the other day, when I came across an episode of The Rifleman. Lucas was in a sleeping bag, but was not moving when morning came. His eyes were wide open, but he wasn’t moving.
Mark finally realized that a snake (rattler) had crawled into his sleeping bag during the night. They didn’t know how to get it out without it biting Lucas.
I kept yelling to Mark, ‘call him Stanley, call him Stanley, he’ll come out’, but Mark wouldn’t listen. It took them the whole 30 minutes to get that snake out. But they finally did, and everyone lived happily ever after.
