Anyone notice the “8″ in 1876 on the patch? The 8 looks like a 6. The picture I am referring to is in the AJC photo gallery with a close up. Hope it is just a pre-production goof. If it is by design because of the font, bad choice.
February 7th, 20128:44 am
Now that I look at it longer, it probably is just someone got lazy with the stiching and didn’t complete the top loop on the 8. Still you pay 90-100 for a jersey you should expect quality.
February 7th, 20129:14 am
Anyone remember the baby blue road uniforms of the ’80’s? Maybe time for a throwback game in the old ones again. Then again, they sucked in the ’80’s and lost a boatload of games, so – maybe not.
February 7th, 20129:50 am
Sorry Braves fans. I don’t like the new uniforms. You got to have the Braves Tomahawk on the front.
I go back when the Braves were in Boston and they had the Braves Tomahawk on the front. That is the famous Braves logo….with the Tomahawk on the front…sorry…

Did I ever get sick to my tummy watching that redneck thug fan-basher Chipper Jones emerge from the smoke donning the new Braves uni.
Reminded me of his ole in ‘99 against the Rockies, of all the non-championships we have with this, our fearless leader.
Time to move on and get a new face to this franchise.
February 7th, 201210:27 am
DOB, your bitter and acerbic comments towards fans on this blog reveal that you are heading down the Skip Caray road of alienating your readership (or in his case, listenership, as he constantly bashed the callers on the WSB-AM call-in show). Skip’s bitterness in his years on that call-in show totally ruined an otherwise good career, and I think of him poorly because of it.
Don’t be next.
February 7th, 201211:07 am
Bobo, to be compared to Skip Caray is an honor, in my book. I’m not worthy of it, but it’s an honor. Thanks.

Aren’t you the guy that just criticized me for “bitter and acerbic” comments? Just checking.
I can only assume your name is not Bobo.
February 7th, 201211:17 am
With all these marketing innovations the Braves should put a runway down the middle of the diamond and Fredi and the boys could sashay single file down it before every game to the accompaniment of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” Also, good post RYAN!

Maybe they can wear leather jackets in the dugout and try to look years younger and seem cooler than they actually are?
That’d be pretty cool.
February 7th, 201211:58 am
Some of you guys do not even sound like Braves fans. No one is forcing you to buy a new jersey, buy a ticket, or pull for a team. Find a new team.
February 7th, 201212:22 pm
Fangraphs recently placed teams into groups based on how analytical they tend to be. Not surprisingly, the Braves are near the bottom. A commenter noted that the not only are the Braves behind the curve relative to other teams on statistical research in baseball, they’ve also failed often in recent drafts as they’ve religiously adhered to slot, preferring cheap players rather than the best talent. The commenter asked what the Braves do well anymore. Well obviously they are near the top in designing uniforms (have you see the Marlins new unis?) and setting hot dog prices. Yep, they should be fitted for WS rings any day now.

February 7th, 201212:32 pm
I love the new unis precisely because the tomahawk is missing. This is probably wishful thinking, but I hope this is a first step in getting rid of the tomahawk (and therefore the stupid tomahawk chop and chant) permanently. It got old about, oh, seventeen years ago.
February 7th, 201212:49 pm
I think we should get uniforms that you can hunt in as well… or open up in the back for when I go off to the Hospital again…
February 7th, 20121:13 pm
two jerseys – white for home, grey for the road. end of story.
February 7th, 20121:14 pm
Uniforms are really of no consequence to the play on the field. Who cares what colors or styles they wear ? Just hit & pitch and win.

LMAO @ 12:49 !

“Cox to manage (Future) Braves”.
So he gets to sit on his arse and pencil in a line-up ? Post a headline when its like “Cox to dig a ditch with a shovel”. You know, when he actually works for the 1st time in the last 50 years ?
February 7th, 20121:31 pm
Bobo’s Frodo is a Todo, you’re a clown, I don’t always agree with DOB, but the guy is loyal to his team, I may not support everything the Braves FO or other personnel do, or even like all of them, but I always pull for the Braves to win and watch most of the games. I recognize rare greatness in a player like Chipper and am truly thankful for getting to watch him all these years. I have not always like everything he’s done on and off the field, just the same as I probably wouldn’t like things that some of his critics have done in their lives if THEIR lives had been blasted all over the media on a regular basis. Last time I checked, we’re none of us perfect…DOB, keep defending what SHOULD be defended and the bulk of the fanbase will respect you and you know that, Skip Caray remembered as bitter? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
February 7th, 20121:38 pm
DOB, I’m the reader. I’m allowed to vent and be “bitter and acerbic” towards Atlanta teams and their players. You, however, have no such privilige when it comes to your attitude towards the readers. Do so at your own peril.
February 7th, 20121:44 pm
Bobo, you’re not a reader, you’re a critic, and most of us have a pretty good understanding of the relationship between writers and critics…
February 7th, 20121:57 pm
Bobo suit up or find a new team.
Redneck thugs are cool.
February 7th, 20123:31 pm
I don’t care about the uniforms. If the Braves have the budget for uniform design or something, just increase the payroll budget by that amount.
February 7th, 20124:55 pm
totally unrelated to anything above – I was just comparing Chipper Jones’ career stats with those of his idol — Micky Mantle. The similarities are stunning:
Batting Average – .298 v .304 ( Jones )
OBP – .935 v .977 ( Mantle )
Years plyed / games 18/ 2401 v 18/ 2387 ( Jones )
Home Runs – 536 ( Mantle ) v 454
Doubles 526 ( Jones ) v 344
RBI 1561 ( Jones ) v 1509
SB 153 ( Mantle ) v 149
Pretty impressive company I’d say.
February 7th, 20125:53 pm
Come on guys—we can all make our points and be respectful to others. No need to make it personal and/or be rude. And we should especially be respectful of the dead. Skip Carey was a great broadcaster, humorist, ardent Braves supporter, and I still miss him.
February 7th, 20125:59 pm
I always enjoyed Skip calling a game, especially when he was teamed up with Joe. Miss ole Skip.
At least we were fortunate enough to get Chip back from the Cubs.
February 7th, 20126:00 pm
last sentence = haha
February 7th, 20126:44 pm
Why can’t we change the ownership instead of the uniform .
February 7th, 20127:28 pm
Uniforms??? Couldn’t care less. Lost interest in the Braves and all professional baseball back during the strikes. Haven’t bought a ticket to a game since – don’t plan to. I date back to the Atlanta Crackers and LOVED baseball at the old Ponce – they ruined it for me. So did pro-football – don’t care anymore. Last game I saw in person OJ Simpson was in the backfield for the 49′rs. I wouldn’t go now if you bought my ticket, hot dog, beer and paid parking….just the way it is.
February 7th, 20127:35 pm
One’s a little less complicated than the other?
those were the day's
February 7th, 20127:55 pm
NtheNo—–i’m still pissed that the club let paul richards trade Ed Mathews to Houston, and your right about everything, maybe it would nice to see the team run out in the 1969 pinsstripes with the black hats.
Brave New World
Skip Carey was one of the best at calling a game. So what if he got a bit irritated with some people asking mundane questions? Can you imagine what Skip would think of some of the people on these Braves’ blogs? All I can say is DOB, you have more patience than most of us.
February 7th, 20128:15 pm
Skip Carey was a jerk, and would never had gotten a job with the club, if they would have had the BALLS to keep the BEST play by play man they ever had, in Milo Hamilton.
February 7th, 20129:58 pm
DOB,When the Cespedes gets his status straight do Braves stand at least a snowballs chance. That’s the RH left fielder with power we have been waiting for our whole lives.
February 7th, 201210:40 pm
my guess is Cespedes signs for pretty big money for a rookie, coming off what Chapman and Darvish have signed for which should place him well out of our universe…

Chris: I seem to remember someone named Chris repeatedly asking Skip to explain the infield fly rule on his radio show.
February 8th, 20123:22 pm
I wish the fans would stop complaining about about the braves payroll. The Marlins won two world title’s with less than halve the payroll the braves receive. The cardinal’s made the best winter move by not signing their ageing star to a disgusting amount of money. The braves need to start stocking their team with five million dollar players and stop bringing up players from the minor’s before they develop.
February 8th, 20125:55 pm
Major league baseball has the sloppiest uniform policy in sports Put the word “uniform” back in uniforms: players should wear uniforms that fit, all pants length should be mid-calf, stirrup socks with white socks showing underneath, everyone the same. For the Braves, white uniforms at home, creme uniforms on the road, get rid of the softball look blue and red jerseys.
February 9th, 20126:39 pm
Go to braves website to buy the new creams one…im gonna order one but need someone to tell me the size I need …I’m 6′2″…175 lbs…do I need the 44,48 or 52 inch?
February 9th, 20129:34 pm
It’s all about the Benjamins!! A new uniform that some fans will want to purchase.
February 9th, 201211:09 pm
I wish they had dropped the red unis altogether.
February 9th, 201211:11 pm
YUK! The White, Red, Blue, and grey uniforms are fine.
February 9th, 201211:46 pm
@not gonna happen
They won 3. one as Boston Braves, one as Milwaukee Braves, and one as Atlanta Braves… Know your baseball, son.
February 10th, 20129:16 am
Dave, when you say that the Braves would only profit enough on a jersey purchase to buy a ballpoint pen, it makes me think of the smell from my cow pastures. The ONLY reason they come out with so many jersey changes is to increase the sales of jerseys to fans. The Braves are not alone in doing this, all pro and most college teams do the same thing but why try to cover for them. This is NOT about making any sort of fashion statement. They are going to do anything they can to wring every possible cent out of fans. And, of course, it is every fan’s right to say yes or no depending on their wishes or financial situation.
February 10th, 20129:25 am
I like them both but I just wish they would save their money and (when needed) get a player or two like Pujols or Reyes. As it stands, we have a pretty good team! GO BRAVES!
Keith .. just click the “Baseball Jersey Sizing” link on the right hand side to the right of where you pick your size. http://shop.mlb.com/info/index.jsp?categoryId=2123908&backTo=12563590&savePath=1452340.1452371.1452343.1452599.703407&infoType=infosport

No doubt about that. Revenues are big part of it, though no team would ever say as much. I was only referring to the relative pittance that one jersey brings to a team, when the commenter said something along the lines of, “If I buy a jersey would you please apply the money to getting players?”
Teams get the difference between the wholesale cost and retail cost for a jersey sold in their own team store or ballpark. For all other jerseys (or any other gear) sold at various retail outlets (sporting goods stores, department stores, etc.) the team splits the profit evenly with 29 other teams. In other words, the team gets 1/30th of the profit for a jersey sold at Athlete’s Foot in the mall.
February 10th, 20121:27 pm
I am available to model new uniforms at the mall…………………………..
February 10th, 20121:53 pm
The Red Sox have gone on the cheep this winter, have you looked at their off season?
Not as cheap as Liberty, but cheapest of the big market teams.
They have no shortstop too.
February 10th, 20123:00 pm
Thanks Kat…but I seen the sizing chart already…just wanting to make sure before I order it…who has a jersey already and what’s your height and weight so I can get a better idea of the size I need???
February 10th, 20123:58 pm
I just wished the Braves would unveil new owners…
February 10th, 20124:07 pm
At least the look on the field will be fresh when O’Ventbrel ultimately wears down in September because the team can’t score more than two runs per game.
Fed Up Fan
February 10th, 20125:29 pm
@DOB- You are soooo in the bag for the Braves. Cutting and pasting their press releases is not really journalism.
February 10th, 20125:33 pm
Instead, why not try writing the truth about what a sorry-ass owner Liberty Media is?
Thank you, Fed Up Fan. We were going to ignore the new uniforms and just let people be surprised when they saw the Braves wearing them, but since there was no other news to report about any recent personnel moves and such, we thought some folks might want to actually know why the team’s not wearing red on Sunday and why they’re wearing a uniform that looks a whole lot like the one they were 35 years ago. But then, Fed Up Fans probably don’t care, right? Better just to not write anything for you?
Thanks, by the way, for the heads-up on what constitutes journalism. Your field of expertise, is it?
February 10th, 20125:39 pm
Instead, why not try writing the truth about what a sorry-ass owner Liberty Media is? — Fed Up fan
Is that a lengthy story? What details do you put in it? That Braves have middle-of-the-pack payroll supported by middle-of-the-pack attendance, and that they should spend like they have top-5 attendance and top-5 TV revenues even if they don’t, because that’s how Ted did it? Or do you focus on fact that the owner doesn’t sit in front row with a Braves cap on and cheer for the home team?
Or just peg the story on Fed Up Fan’s statement that Liberty Media is a “sorry-ass owner”? How does that work in journalism?
February 10th, 20129:41 pm
The new jersey has the same qualities as their September play — it sucks.
I feel your pain fed up fan, but we are stuck with this ownership for a while at least. And buried with that TV deal for 20 mo yrs.
Payroll is never going up. Unless by surprise we draw 3.2 million again–dreamful thinking. Even at that the team establishment might have some superstition about 90 or so mil–never know.
Hate to see where we will be in 2020.
February 10th, 20129:44 pm
Man! Folks are in a foul mood. Still p.o.’ed ’bout Sept.
I sure hope the Braves get the season off to a good start or it will really get ugly.
February 11th, 20128:07 am
Hey, when you cannot make news by signing an impact free agent, one has to make news by changing uniforms on certain days.
What a joke of a Franchise
The Braves are quickly becoming the Chciago Cubs of the South
February 11th, 20128:25 am
“Man! Folks are in a foul mood. Still p.o.’ed ’bout Sept”
Yes, Farnsworthy, that is one hundred percent spot on correct. And to me it is one hundred percent justified and should never be forgiven or forgotten.
They deserve to be Booed on opening day. Send the message. Loser bums.
February 11th, 201210:25 am
@ DOB- I noticed that you did not deny cutting and pasting a Braves press release. Would you care to address that?
February 11th, 201210:29 am
How about a story about how the absentee ownership tolerates, and even initiates, mediocrity in their front office and coaching staff? (i.e. the inherent lack of accountability of corporate ownership) That might be a good start.
February 11th, 201210:33 am
@DOB- If you did write such a story, I’m sure that you would alienate yourself from the Braves, but I’d dare say that you would ingratiate yourself to a multitude of thinking fans out there. And who knows, you might even win a Peabody in the process.

I like them. I dont see what the big deal is with creating more styles. Whether or not it’s for a silly attempt to bring in more money it is still fun. Especially for kids. I love baseball with all my heart and soul. And I absolutely love my Braves. I dont care if they have 500 alternate uniforms with half of them being hot pink. I will wear them with pride if it helps us win. I’ll wear them proudly even if we lose every game the entire season. I love Braves baseball!!! Let’s go Bravos!
April 21st, 201211:16 am
You only need two uniforms, one for home games one for road games. The home
uniform with the tomahawk is good look, atlanta with tomahawk for the road
is a good look, make the uniforms cooler for the players, all the other stuff
is just so much JAZZ.

I hate rules, but MLB must force players to wear their jerseys appropriately, with stirrups showing.
As it is, most players look as if they are wearing pajamas. Watching the Cubs-Bravest tonite, at least Soriano on the Cubs wears his uniform properly.
