I just hope they did not consult with George Costanza on these. Remember what happened when he convinced Buck Showalter to go with 100% cotton uniforms?
February 6th, 20121:31 pm
Well, Brave Hokie, I understand your point about the Red Sox and Yankees spending money. I too am disappointed that Liberty Media hasn’t loosened the purse strings for this organization to pursue more free agents.
But to say that those teams who have unlimited funds are the only team can market their team however they want as a result really makes no sense.
Almost every organization recently has added alternative uniforms to generate money. The Red Sox did this with their Red home jersey. The Giants came out with a creme home uni similar to what the Braves are doing now. Look at Philly with their blue hats, the Indians with the red C on home hats, the twins with their throwback uniforms. In fact, I think the Yankees are the team who hasn’t come out with some form of alternate uniform or hat. Heck, go check out this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Major_League_Baseball_season to see those changes to uniforms just this year.
February 6th, 20121:36 pm
Where can we Buy one?
As I said in the story, for next five days only at Braves’ Store at CNN Center or Academy Sports+Outdoors outlets. After that, they should be available at most other places where Braves jerseys are available.
If you’re not near an Academy Sports location, I’d try them online. Or directly through the Braves store: http://shop.mlb.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=1452343&source=ATL_HomePageTab
February 6th, 20121:46 pm
I’m buying a jersey and the profits go towards a new pen in the Braves office. I was wondering why Frank Wren was trying to steal my pen at Fan Fest. Thanks DOB!
February 6th, 20121:51 pm
I just googled Braves clubhouse store, got this link and they have a big banner headline saying you can order the new jersey there:
February 6th, 20121:56 pm
I hate the term “unis”. who the hell ever came up with that? are we too lazy to add one more
syllable? UNIFORMS ! ! !
February 6th, 20121:59 pm
They should leave the names off the backs. Make it a true throwback.
Walker, Texas Ranger
February 6th, 20122:10 pm
what no screaming brave on the sleeve? I agree, at least get rid of the Red top.
How about a 33% discount for the working poor?
Do the affluent season ticket holders really deserve a break?
February 6th, 20122:11 pm
Nice uniforms…hopefully they support well and won’t allow any collapsing.
February 6th, 20122:15 pm
I like the creme uniforms a lot. But, I still wish they had ditched those navy blue tops. And again, I still cannot understand why both of the road uniforms use the solid navy blue cap. Without the scarlett bill it just seems that something important is missing.
February 6th, 20122:17 pm
Where’s the change?
February 6th, 20122:22 pm
I say bring back the screaming chief’s head on the sleeve too !! Enough with the PC BS!! That’s a cool logo!
If they make money on having different uniforms, then they should:
1. Wear a different type uniform each game for 162 games –to make the most money possible on uniforms. .
2. Use the additional money to …… GET US MORE OFFENSE!!
February 6th, 20122:27 pm
Not sure I fully get all these folks bagging on the organization for having another uniform. Plus, I kinda like the old school look.
To those bagging on Liberty Media for not spending more on the team, remember we were middle of the pack in attendance and on money spent on players (on the major league club). Not mentioned are the funds the Braves allocate toward amateur and foreign scouting, both of which are strengths of the organization.
February 6th, 20122:28 pm
This new “Alternate” jersey should be their home jersey…kinda like the Thrashers, when they rolled out the blue “alternate” that eventaully became the full time home jersey…only difference is these “creme-colored” jerseys look good.
February 6th, 20122:31 pm
neil marlowe @ 1:56pm: ” hate the term “unis”. who the hell ever came up with that? are we too lazy to add one more syllable? UNIFORMS ! ! !”
I have a friend in a teaching program in Tennessee and he almost daily recounts stories to me of students incapable of spelling. “R” for “are,” “U” for “you,” “2nite” for “tonight,” and “prolly” for “probably” are just a few of the examples he sees…in high school papers. Text messaging, Twitter, and Facebook are steadily ruining our language.

My personal favorite has always been,”your an idiot.” The irony gets me every time.
February 6th, 20122:49 pm
That cream color has got to be the ugliest I have seen, are we going to go back 50 years and make the players wear wool uniforms again, I purchase many Braves jerseys but I would not be caught dead in those disgusting jerseys.
February 6th, 20122:57 pm
Must have saved a lot of $$ from not makin any moves during offseason,LOL. Usin it on new UNI’S. At least they’ll look good.
February 6th, 20122:58 pm
Like the style of the new, down with the Red and the Blue. Simplify please!
February 6th, 20123:15 pm
February 6th, 20123:20 pm
DOB…roughly how many times today have you had to explain the weekend uniform breakdown since it was announced this AM? Patience of Job…
I LOVE the new unis. While I think the Bravos regular unis are classic looking, if they were to announce that this was the new home whites full time, I wouldn’t be unhappy. It has such a clean look and is just different enough from the original to be a change. Some of these teams that make uni changes need to take notes from Atlanta, SF and Philly. Real nice looks on the ‘throwback’ unis.
Can't Teach Speed!
February 6th, 20123:22 pm
I really like the new unis. Hey DOB do you know if a place where I could get The Name Garr and his #48 sewn, on the jersey?
February 6th, 20123:24 pm
Like the new uniforms, but sure miss the patch on the sleeve that said “Ernie” and the number 32.
February 6th, 20123:26 pm
Didn’t like the idea at first, but the new uniforms are starting to grow on me. DOB — do you know if they’ll use the traditional striped socks/stirrups with the cream uniforms (not that too many guys show much sock any more)…
Boo got shot
Baseball payers, please go on strike.
February 6th, 20123:28 pm
Yes, I meant “payers.” Stop paying for such mediocre entertainment.
February 6th, 20123:32 pm
its all about REVENUE…Why not wear the powder blues on Monday for Monday blues at the park
February 6th, 20123:37 pm
Speed, the Clubhouse store at CNN and the Field should be able to personalize your jersey. Unless, Garr and his number are reserved for some reason.
Red Clown Uni
February 6th, 20123:38 pm
So the Braves finally got tired of looking like clowns with the home red jersey and decided to look like a real baseball team again?
Now if they can get rid of the gosh awful blue jersey as well.
Leave the colored jersey look to little league and beer league softball teams
February 6th, 20123:41 pm
Did Chipper pull a hamstring modeling the Uni?
February 6th, 20123:42 pm
I’ve been watching major league baseball for 50 years.
Its usually losing teams that frequently change their uniforms. Something to distract the fanbase.
I’m just saying …
February 6th, 20123:44 pm
This is what a baseball uniform is supposed to look like
February 6th, 20123:47 pm
These are outstanding; I was afraid they might go back to those godawful uniforms of the seventies!
February 6th, 20123:50 pm
Why don’t they just focus on winning and quit worrying about the color of uniforms. My old lady fusses over the color of her outfits, dudes shouldn’t worry about such trivial issues.
February 6th, 20123:51 pm
‘Tain’t going to help them play ball…….they need a spark of more than new uniforms at the end of the season. Get them some help and they will go beyond where they have been of late. Nix the uniforms and create a better line-up and staff.
February 6th, 20123:53 pm
Should tell the players they will wear the same ole uniforms until they bring a pennant home to the ATL.
The good old days
February 6th, 20123:58 pm
This uniform stuff is crazy. Like somebody said earlier, was best when the home team wore white, and the visitors wore gray. Grew up near Boston going to Fenway a couple of times a summer. I loved their travel uniforms….gray with B O S T O N in skinny, dark blue block letters. Kind of like Penn State’s football uniforms…plain as day. But classic. Problem is, all these teams think they have to change things all the time to keep people happy. Field a winning team and people will be happy.
And don’t get me started on going to the games….more like going to a combo baseball game and circus. Maybe the Braves should bring out trapeze artists between innings.
February 6th, 20124:00 pm
I’d like the old uniforms better if Hank Aaron, Rico Carty, Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Warren Spahn, Johnny Sain, Eddie Matthews, Mack Jones, Joe Torre, Ron Reed, Pat Jarvis, Denny Lemaster, Denis Menke, Sonny Jackson, Felix Millan, Orlando Cepeda, Ralph Garr, Clete Boyer, Buzz Capra, Bob Horner, Davey Johnson, were in them instead of the current stiffs. Then at least they would field a decent hitting team:
LF: Ralph Garr
SS: Sonny Jackson
RF: Henry Aaron
CF: Dale Murphy
3B: Eddie Matthews
DH: Rico Carty
C: Joe Torre
2b: Davey Johnson
P: Phil Niekro
February 6th, 20124:02 pm
Spending money on new uniforms and not spending money on personnel is the most idiotic usage of their money that they have ever done. They need a couple of marquee players instead of new uniforms.
February 6th, 20124:03 pm
DOB – so people show interest and comment on your column, and you rip them for expressing their opinions? Wow. Bye.
Why don’t they just focus on winning and quit worrying about the color of uniforms. — willnatlanta
The manager and players had nothing whatsoever to do with the addition of this or any other uniform. Chipper hadn’t even seen the thing until he showed up today to model it at the press conference.
This thing was decided upon and designed by front-office officials in marketing and other non-baseball ops positions. So trying to somehow connect “fussing” over uniforms to anything that happens on the field or in player-personnel matters is pointless. Completely different parts of the organization.
February 6th, 20124:09 pm
Duh, Kendall, they buy NEW uniforms every year. They pass the last’s years down to the minors, or at least used to do that. In todays new $$, maybe they buy all new for the minors. But, in old days, they passed them down the system.
February 6th, 20124:20 pm
Hey, also, could we get the Braves to wear the red and white striped stirrups they wore with the off-white uniform too?
I mean, let’s get back to tradition and history if that is what they want to do.
I despise seeing players wearing pajama pants or slacks like they do now.
February 6th, 20124:30 pm
“LF: Ralph Garr
SS: Sonny Jackson
RF: Henry Aaron
CF: Dale Murphy
3B: Eddie Matthews
DH: Rico Carty
C: Joe Torre
2b: Davey Johnson
P: Phil Niekro”
I like that lineup ! Those guys could get on base, steal a few, & figure out a way to score without waiting on a homerun, unlike the current edition of the Braves.
The comments on this article are rather asinine and illogical. It’s the equivalent to reading the comments on a YouTube video. I don’t really understand why most people have gone askew from the main point, which is the uniforms. They have nothing to do with last season, and they’ll have nothing to do with how well the Braves perform on the field this season.
Anyway, these uniforms are incredible. The only thing I would’ve left off would be the names on the back.
February 6th, 20124:31 pm
So the Mets, Nationals and Fish made personnel upgrades and the Phillies are already one of the best team in the league and the Braves ……………. move the “a” and “v” closer on their uni’s. Season tickets, anyone?
former season ticket holder
February 6th, 20124:34 pm
New uniforms are a lot cheaper than getting a much-needed slugger for the outfield.
When runners are left on base and we lose by a run or two, those pretty new uniforms will make us forget about the money we just wasted at Turner Field watching an impotent lineup and inept manager.
February 6th, 20124:35 pm
Why don’t you uniform critics just shut up. Here we are trying to brighten things up a bit for the players and the fans with some new apparel, but it seems like there is nothing we can do to please you guys.
February 6th, 20124:39 pm
I like the uniforms but the Braves don’t need five jerseys, and having them won’t win a World Series. Now, if extra jerseys means extra revenue that is directly put into increasing payroll to spend on bigger name free agents then I can get behind it. But something tells me that isn’t exactly where the “extra” revenue will be going………..
February 6th, 20124:50 pm
@Braves Uno & @Ex-Braves Fan
Murphy and Aaron never played together. And I do believe Aaron hit a few home runs when he was in Atlanta, hitting 38+ at least 5 times. The ‘73 Braves, for instance, led the MLB with 206 HR, with Davey Johnson (43) and Darrel Evans (41) hitting more than Hank (40). Last year’s Braves hit 173. So to say that the older (and inaccurate) line-up above found more ways to score other than waiting on home runs would be incorrect. Also, the ‘73 Braves finished 9 games under 500. I would much rather have last year’s winning team than that!
February 6th, 20124:51 pm
The extra revenue will be going into my contract extension.
My fishing pole & golf clubs are on the way to Orlando !
February 6th, 20124:53 pm
I suspect the 1973 Braves scored more runs, and hit fewer solo HRS than the murderers row team of 2011.

I wonder if they could get it in pink?

Hey fellas, listen to O’Brien. His answer to the Braves collapse is to look at the Boston Red Sox. Forget looking at Yanks, Rangers, Tigers, TB, Cards, et. al.

Yeah, the 2011 lineup really put a lot of fear into the opposition !
Freeman & McCann would be the only ones that would crack the 1973 lineup
February 6th, 20125:32 pm
nice looking uniforms….however same old stiffs wearing them. expect more mediocrity from this bunch.

February 6th, 20126:15 pm
I applaud the new unis. The only thing that could have made it better would be dumping the red ones once and for all. Those red ones do a great job of showing when your TV color settings are oversaturated, though.
The Braves should have a promotion to dispose of those red things. Maybe exchange a ticket to a future game in exchange for fan-purchased red jerseys. Then they could have a Bonfire Night and burn the things, something along the lines of a Bill Veeck promotion.
February 6th, 20126:16 pm
Now if they would wear their uni pants up below the knees instead of on their cleats….so sloppy looking!
February 6th, 20126:21 pm
Yeah, the 2011 really WON !
February 6th, 20126:35 pm
IMHO, Fox Sports South would need to go to a wide-angle lens to fit McCann into a shot while he’s wearing the pink uni.
February 6th, 20126:37 pm
Great…new unis. So when do we get a decent power hitter to wear one of them?
new york brave
February 6th, 20126:47 pm
Here is a thought: at each home game have the players wear alternating colors. It can’t hurt and it might just help our offense.

I just saw the end of video link I posted and we can’t do anything right. Chipper laughing and knocking the fog out of his face. (hangs head) Imagine if the Heat premier party last season had the big three waving smoke out of their face and laughing. Chipper is a goon.

February 6th, 20127:22 pm
this is the highlight of the Braves’ offseason. how about improving the team itself, not just the look ?
they should be ashamed to do this.
when they finish 3rd or 4th, will anybody care how they look ?
Rockies making trades with everyone, but Braves couldn’t work anything out with them.
tomorrow, maybe they’ll announce new shoes.
The Edict of Terry McQuirk
February 6th, 20127:23 pm
I can hear Terry McQuirk in the marketing office now:
“ok, here is the real world. We aren’t gonna do a Damn thing to improve this team in the off-season!. It’s up to you guys in the marketing department to come up with the smoke and mirrors to confuse and baffle the fans so they won’t realize we really aren’t contenders until late May. We have to generate some income from the silly fan who is going to buy the latest jersey just because it IS the latest jersey! You guys need to have a sale with all the red jerseys and bundle them with the 532,000 Francouer jerseys we still have left!”
February 6th, 20127:27 pm
Love the number on the front….but C’MON you weenie front office Braves managers…put the screaming Mohawk Brave logo on the shoulder!!…THEGreatest baseball logo ever invented! That combined with knock a homer THE best baseball mascot ever invented…and a TRAVeSTY they were ever let go. Braves politically CorRect management is still a joke for doing that.

After yesterday’s headline “Cox to Manage Braves Again?”, this one should have read “Braves Get Cremed Before the Season Starts”.
February 6th, 20127:54 pm
The red jerseys make more sense at night instead of Sunday day games. I love the new alternative jerseys because I go back to when the Braves came to Atlanta.
Off the subject-Ryan Doumitt
February 6th, 20128:02 pm
Minn. just signed this guy for 3 million, and I think they got a steal. The guy hits .300 against both LH and RH pitching, and is a switch hitter. He can play 1b and catch, and probably a little LF. This would have been a better player for the Braves than Diaz and would have upgraded our bench and pinch-hitting substantially.
February 6th, 20128:31 pm
February 6th, 20128:47 pm
Great looking jersey, but the omission of the screaming Indian is a miss. Put “Aaron” on the back with the Indian and watch them fly.
If you are going to make a run at vintage, do it right. Otherwise, nice start!
Fan of the Game
February 6th, 20129:23 pm
Good teams very seldom change uniforms. Look at the Yankees, Red Sox, Packers, Giants, Celtics, and Lakers. The Falcons have the ugliest uniforms of the Atlanta teams. They need to go back to the red helmets, black jerseys and white pants they sometimes wear.
February 6th, 20129:31 pm
Ryan Doumitt ?
You are kidding, right?
A guy that hit .300 , both righty & lefty, wouldn’t be a good fit on this Braves’ team.
We prefer guys who hit .240 or less, and swing for the fences.
February 6th, 201210:08 pm
Hey, speaking of Diaz, I wonder if he will be good this year? I went to see a game this year, and boom, there he is in right field! Great surprise, and he did well that game. His numbers have been a little off the last two years. Hope he can rebound this year and have a comfortable spot. We really missed Infante last year, especially when he hit that HR against us.
February 6th, 201210:12 pm
Can’t wait to see if Heyward closed up that big hole in his swing. Personally, I’m skeptical, but maybe the new hitting coach can shorten that swing a little. I’m ready to have some baseball to talk about. Uniforms is like girl-talk…
February 6th, 201210:14 pm
there are still a–holes getting on the feed below the Chipper article calling for him to retire…SERIOUSLY? WTF? He is one of, if not the greatest switch-hitters of all time and he played his entire career for us and wants to finish out as a Brave and by all acounts will probably stay in the organization after he retires from playing. No wonder this franchise can’t win the big one more than once in a blue moon, the fan-base can’t/won’t recognize greatness and appreciate for what it is even when it stares them in the face for 20 FREAKING YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 6th, 201210:30 pm
Death to the ugly RED Jerseys! These new ones are fine.
Buzz Capra Was The Best
February 6th, 201210:49 pm
I love the new cream colored uniforms. I have liked all the Braves uniforms through the years, but especially the ones from the early 70’s with the blue tops and white pants. To all of the fans out there who don’t like all the unis – get used to it. Its all about making money on jersey sales. I wish Ted Turner would buy the Braves again.
February 6th, 201210:56 pm
This is just crazy I miss the old days where they wore white at home and grey on the road it was simple and better I don’t get why they need all the different uniforms.
February 6th, 201211:27 pm
Chipper Jones is a better switch-hitter than Pete Rose or Mickey Mantle?
Delusional Braves’ fans ! Keep guzzling the Kool Aid !
February 6th, 201211:34 pm
Maybe the switch to the Hank Aaron era jerseys will lead all current Braves to start hitting like Hank… Well, one can wish.
February 6th, 201211:40 pm
@Bill James, compare Chipper’s numbers to Mantle’s, I would hope you already had since you call yourself Bill James. I’m hardly “delusional”. He’s definitely in the Mick’s class whether better or not…
February 6th, 201211:47 pm
Who would of thunk it?! The biggest change Atlanta makes in the offseason is its uniforms.
February 7th, 20126:11 am
According to the baseball writer for Yahoo Sports in todays post, the Braves are doing this to replace the
Indian face logo and to be politically correct.

February 7th, 20126:52 am
That darn ESPN Northeastern bias strikes again. ESPN was soooo busy making such a big deal of the Red Sox choking last year that no one outside of the Southeast even noticed how bad the Braves choked in September. So unfair!

February 7th, 20127:26 am
I’ve run some preliminary numbers and this uniform switch will add .000 to our collective batting average, slugging percentage, and on base percentage. Then again, it won’t take anything from them.
You’ve done it again, Braves! Clever!
February 7th, 20128:15 am
Can either you ask John Schuerholz or can you ask Tim Tucker to ask John Schuerholz about the following statement, released to fans in an open letter shortly after the Sept. collapse, and if he fills that his orgainization has “repaired its weaknesses?” Thanks.
From John Schuerholz, Oct. 6:
“However, our performance in the month of September was unacceptable to all in the organization, and we will evaluate and analyze our missteps to do all we can to prevent this from happening again. Our General Manager, Frank Wren, and his staff have already begun to evaluate our team and will be focusing throughout the off-season on building upon the strengths of this team and repairing our weaknesses to achieve our goal.”
