Now why would a woman older than most of those kids Mom be concerned about the newbies? — Muzuno
You have to appreciate the courage of some of the posters, here. The dude uses a fake moniker to bust cabravesfan’s chops, instead of his, normal, fake name.
What’s the matter? Are you afraid she’s gonna have harsh words with you?

DOB – Great article. Great insight to the way you interpreted Chipper. I have enjoyed your updates on Twitter so much, I almost forgot where you first got my attention. Keep the good stuff coming. Can’t wait for the season to start and I am sure the Braves will kick butt this year.
February 4th, 20121:15 am
I got to know some of the Minor league sportswriters and editors who would trade game and team mimeographed lists of players stats, game totals, scoreshdeets, spring and regular season press guides, etc, for Baseball cards.. I have boxes of these old memeographed hand collated guides full of fascinating names of players who had hopes and dreams, but most never made it.

uga-brave: Indeed, give Aaron Sorkin credit for great screenplays on those two movies (The Social Network and Moneyball) and give director David Fincher major props for Moneyball and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in consecutive years.

Any word on when they will announce the new uni? Saw on twitter where there might be a presser on Monday. — Aris
Yes, there is a 10 a.m. press conference Monday in the 755 Club. They’re only saying that Hank, Chipper, McCann and Uggla will be there.
worst cast person in the very near movie history was seymour-hoffman as art howe.
bad use of a really good actor.
February 4th, 20122:43 am
Hello everyone lots of line ups already.
9. pitcher- There is my line-up.
February 4th, 20123:00 am
sorry ward butcha gotta be a nut to bat Chipper 7th
February 4th, 20123:11 am
nolie- Thinking about some one getting on base at the end of the line-up.Chipper would still hit for average, and get on base.Just a theory.
February 4th, 20123:15 am
putting a good hitter that far back cuts down on his at bats. that’s ok is all in front of him are hitting well, but if he is the 2nd to 4th best hitter this year it would be kinda silly to hit him that far back. between #2 and #5 are most likely IMO if he is hitting well.
Might settle for Chipper 3rd,and Freeman 7th,but I just don’t think Chipper will be the same player years ago,but it’s hard to say.His knees bother me just a little, and thats why I have him 7th.Not knocking Chipper, but he’s not as fast as he once was.
February 4th, 20123:18 am
Healthy knees for Chipper, bat him 3rd,and if knees are not the same bat him 7th.

February 4th, 20123:19 am
7th extremely unlikely unless he just bottoms out this season
February 4th, 20123:24 am
I like Chipper hope he does well. Just thinking about adding some pop at the bottom, but it’s all cool. Glad to be talking about something different.
February 4th, 20123:30 am
i’m off, seeya later ward. piece and have a good night
February 4th, 20123:35 am
nolie- Have a good one!I’ll hang around for a few……
February 4th, 20123:40 am
I say don’t count Chipper out until he retires. He is the best hitter the Braves have had since Henry Aaron.
February 4th, 20124:13 am
Not knocking Chipper just an idea batting him 7th. Soem pop at the bottom wouldn’t be a bad idea. That’s all I was saying.
February 4th, 20124:16 am
Anyways just an idea, and no big deal. Chipper will do fine.
February 4th, 20124:41 am
All have a good one! Peace……………Talk tomorrow.

“A lot of undervaluing of the Nats on this board. Let’s take a look at what I feel is definitely in the playoffs mix at this point.”
Tommy P—The Nats might be undervalued on this board but listed to the MLB Network guys and they are taking notice of what the Nats might be ready to do.
Mitch Williams picked them for second and the Marlins third at this point.
Most pundits are seeing a 4 team race for a while and there are more people picking the Braves for 4th than the Braves apologists would like to think. Mitch is not the only one.
Mark m words–The Braves will be in the low 80’s of wins and will be either third or 4th. If Josh Johsnson is right, we will be 4th.
Merci y Gracias oh wonderful Liberty Madia.
February 4th, 20129:04 am
Disgusted—A lot of the blame goes to Time/Warner for the horrible local TV contracts they locked the Braves in for the next 20 years of so.
February 4th, 20129:07 am
I was scrolling through last evenings posts and saw nolie dissing on the Nationals. IMO that team is going to do some damage this year. Not quite a Division winner yet. But a definite candidate for one of the two Wild Card spots. (Assuming the Commish puts the two Wild Card team format in for this year)
Brave New World
February 4th, 20129:11 am
Braves will win 85-95 games in 2012. 85 wins means the pitching carries an average offense, and 95 wins means the offense delivers to complement a dominant pitching staff. GO BRAVES!
February 4th, 20129:53 am
Playoffs–That is true. How that deal got done is anyone’s guess, the public will never really know, the average ticket and TV watching fan does not understandor care about it except for the consequences of how the TV deal affects the Braves for the next remaining 20 yrs.
Right now, the ownership is the focal point of how the team is to be run in the future.
Because the Braves are a non core essential assett in LM’s portfolio, how much do they even care or how much time is put into generating new sources of revenue is a fair question.
Are they even a good investment for a sugar daddy type of ownership, that is a good question.
February 4th, 20129:54 am
Obviously, the homers on here are downplaying the Nats, but everyone else realizes that second place in this division is there’s. With the Marlins on their tail.
February 4th, 20129:56 am
JRW–I predict that the Nats are a second place team in this division assuming all stays pretty much as it right now.
I see the Phillies winning 94, the Nats 91, the Fish at 85 or 86 W’s and the Braves 83 or 84. The poor Muts, well its more than 90 losses.
February 4th, 201210:12 am
I would imagine that in order to have a glass half empty, one would have to actually have a glass. Y’all’s glass is lying in shattered pieces.
February 4th, 201210:24 am
Lew, are you going to be able to make it to spring training this year? I am still debating.
February 4th, 201210:27 am
CB – Can’t afford it after my son’s illness. He might go over there a day or two and get me a couple autographs, though.
I’ll be happy to send you some prints for you to get signed if you’d like.
February 4th, 201210:29 am
Good Morning Everyone
Ward__ there is no way you can bat Chipper 7th…. Protected by Pastor no way. Chipper should just start the year in the 3 hole and go from there. Here’s what I think. Of course Heyward would have to show improvements in ST.
If Heyward can return to 2010 form he makes for a good No.2 batter to start the season. Great plate discipline and patience to go along with his OBP ability and speed is a great combo. Hopefully he makes strides and is hitting 3rd by mid-season. I don’t like Freeman or McCann in the 3 hole, there base cloggers, Chipper runs better than both of them still.
February 4th, 201210:31 am
VaBraves – I’d rather Prado hit second, Mac moves down to sixth and Heyward bats fifth.
February 4th, 201210:33 am
Nice offer, Lew. Thank you for that, if I go it will probably be mid-March when they have three home games. We usually take the RV and stay at Walmart to save motel fees. Cook in RV and go the cheapest route. Ha!
February 4th, 201210:38 am
CB – My son is working at Disney while he finishes his degree. He gets in free (along with anyone who goes with him) to Disney Parks – EXCEPT Wide World of Sports. Figures.
February 4th, 201210:40 am
So we’d have 3 Lefties in a row and Freeman batting 7th?
February 4th, 201210:41 am
Lew,I remember how nice both of you were with giving me info the first time my wife and I went down. John was very nice.
February 4th, 201210:48 am
Prado seemed uncomfortable hitting with Bourn on 1st base.
February 4th, 201210:57 am
I wonder if the Texas Rangers are going to ban alcohol advertising and sales at the Ballpark, in support of Josh Hamilton?
February 4th, 201210:59 am
VaBraves – Having someone like Freddie batting seventh is what happens in a strong lineup (I’m sure I’ll hear about that one). Rather have him down there with his power than Martin, who is much more a table setter when he’s hitting like we know he will now that he’s healthy.
No matter what Shaun claims, Heyward is not a number two hitter. He needs to be further down in the lineup.
February 4th, 201211:02 am
VaBraves – Re: Prado behind Bourn. I keep hearing that, but think it’s total bs. Prado was injured last year. His strength was sapped and then he had a new player hitting in front of him that runs. He never really had any time to adjust since he was more concerned with trying to get his stroke back.
Late last year was an aberration all around. Let him hit there during ST and he’ll be fine and so wil Bourn.
February 4th, 201211:03 am
And as to three LH hitters in a row. Kind of what happens when you only have two RH hitters in your every day lineup.
February 4th, 201211:06 am
Took your advice, caught your #2 movie (Drive) the other day..
Good flick, had plenty of violence, loved the car scenes….
Reminded me of high speed ‘Soprano’s story…….
Lew—- How you doing?
I just think Heyward is gonna get back to drawing alot of walks and getting on base a ton starting out. Power will come.
February 4th, 201211:15 am
IVAN – Doing pretty well. My wife has the flu, so I’m playing Joe Nurse right now. Lucky that I don’t get viral infections very often and never had the flu.
Should have said THREE RH hitters, but Pastornicky is probably going to be hitting eighth.
Have to face facts that we have a LH hitting lineup and will be (as has been the case in recent years) susceptible to LH pitching.
February 4th, 201211:17 am
VaBravesFan – I just think Heyward is gonna get back to drawing alot of walks and getting on base a ton starting out. Power will come.
If he hasn’t learned how to hit a breaking ball, or hit with two strikes he better hope to walk a lot. I have to see his transformation to believe it. He was so totally lost at the plate last season, that I’m a little skeptical that he can turn it around quickly.
VaBraves – I hope he takes walks and hits for power, but one thing we have seen more than anything from him – even when he was hitting well – is that 4-2 play. I sure as hell don’t want him up there consistently hitting ground balls to the second baseman with Bourn on first.
February 4th, 201211:20 am
Heyward will see very few fast balls until he proves he can hit a breaking ball consistently. The book is out on him. There’s a big difference hitting with Pitching Coaches vs say Halladay’s barrage of breaking pitches.
Correction – 4-3 play.
February 4th, 201211:46 am
Anyone like the idea of Mac hitting 7th and CJ 6th. Mac could protect CJ, while Ross could slip right into Mac’s spot when getting a day off. This would keep lineup consistency as well
In my mind, this is an important year for Heyward. He’s been through the league twice and a couple of swing coaches. It’ll be interesting to see if he adjusts.
McFann O O o
February 4th, 201211:50 am
Don’t think BMac should bat as low as 7th…6th, maybe, but 7th seems too low…
February 4th, 201211:51 am
He should hit cleanup
February 4th, 201211:54 am
What are you trying to do…?
February 4th, 201211:57 am
Actually, cleanup would be better than third…the third spot has dethroned 4th as the spot that should be most avoided…

February 4th, 201212:07 pm
February 4th, 201212:13 pm
I think we have a very good lineup without the injuries and crazy slumps. Pretty safe to say Uggla will have a more balanced season and Prado will bounce back. Heyward should improve just can’t go crazy on expectations. Having Bourn from the start is a plus as well. Our lineup can be constructed a bunch of different ways.
February 4th, 201212:16 pm
Just saw where someone asked why I’d be concerned the the new pen guys aren’t married. First- men would not go to jail for that, they are all well over legal age. Second, I am not “concerned” about them. Just pointing out that guys like Vizcanio and Teheran are not, in fact, married. Third, the only way I would be old enough to be the mom of a 22 year old is if I had them when I was 10 years old. Grow up, Muzuno.
February 4th, 201212:17 pm
McCann should bat 9th, put two speed guys together.
February 4th, 201212:18 pm
Hopefully Heyward at least bounces back around a 250/350/450 line. That would be a huge improvement over last season’s 227/319/389 line. But I see him being able to out produce Prado’s OBP/SLG.
February 4th, 201212:29 pm
Where did everyone go?
(I’m really insulted that Muzuno thinks I’m that old…)
That sounded wrong. Sorry!
February 4th, 201212:30 pm
This is what stinks about this time of year. Everybody is getting antsy, and to fulfill their antsiness we’re beating a dead horse to sh**. In this case it’s what Heyward will produce, or not produce.
I’ll go with .274/ 21/ 79/.368
People come back!!!

But no commercials when My Fair Lady is on TCM later today…
February 4th, 201212:38 pm
cab, do your thing. nolie is out there somewhere waiting on a dummy to beat on, so patience.
February 4th, 201212:40 pm
Maybe I can entice nolie onto the blog…
(my iPad does not want to accept “nolie” is a real word. First tried to autocorrect to “no lie” and now wants to change it to “online”)
February 4th, 201212:41 pm
commercials are bad now, but one day I was bored and youtubed some 80s commercials and OMG were they corny. Every commercial was like a bad music video. Had to have a song for every product they were trying to sell.
February 4th, 201212:42 pm
Lineups, lineups, lineups…………….
In 2010, putting Heyward in the 2 slot was a great idea. He was patient and was hitting early on. Some of the stat heads suggest putting your best hitter in the 2 slot anyway.
And with Bourn on the team and Prado’s seemingly apprehension of hitting behind Bourn, it would seem to me that you’d want to go something like this:
Chipper (Still our best OBP guy with pop)
Mac (is still a huge clutch hitter)
Uggla (better suited for 4 or 5)
Now, when Mac sits, run Push everybody but Pastor up 1 slot. When Chipper sits, I’d be tempted to hit Freeman 3rd (if he is performing).
And one final thought: if cab is old, then what does that makes some of the rest of us??
February 4th, 201212:43 pm
Very old to super old, I guess
The Hallmark Channel is the worst with commercials…………… They run a normal 2 hour movie for 2.5 hours.
February 4th, 201212:44 pm
Which one am I?
Your first mistake is watching the Hallmark Channel…
February 4th, 201212:45 pm
You are the perfect age
seemingly apprehension????????? wow, my english teachers would turn over in their graves to see my grammar today…………..
February 4th, 201212:48 pm
I really miss “55″. It was rhythmic and just sounded so cool to say. At least I can still say I was born in 55 I guess…….. But it just ain’t the same.
February 4th, 201212:52 pm
Is that what I have to look forward to when I hit 55? I’m worried…
February 4th, 20121:01 pm
I enjoyed wacthing your 49er’s beat the Saints thanks CBF.The NOLA trolls stayed off our Falcon blogs for several days
February 4th, 20121:05 pm
Glad my Niners could help out I rather enjoyed them winning too
Pastornicky could be our next lead off man with his abilities.
February 4th, 20121:17 pm
It is exciting to have a young gun SS coming up,reminds me of Rockett,Jones(chipper). With our new hitting instructors the possibilities are unbounded
February 4th, 20121:23 pm
no spahn , no saine no nuxie
oh the humanity of it all nolie
expand the list
February 4th, 20121:24 pm
if Heyward gets comfortable I am not worried about him. He just needs a good swing back and some confidence. Then he can get back to picking a good pitch to swing at and taking a good swing. If he can get back to those basics, he will be just fine.
Last year was so messed up because he could not take a good swing.
February 4th, 20121:48 pm
Very good blog.
February 4th, 20121:53 pm
Check this out haha…
February 4th, 20121:57 pm
How would you rank the NL East teams going into the season? Most people seem to have the Phillies in the top spot and the Mets at the bottom with variations of the other three teams occupying the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
