DOB – Great article. Great insight to the way you interpreted Chipper. I have enjoyed your updates on Twitter so much, I almost forgot where you first got my attention. Keep the good stuff coming. Can’t wait for the season to start and I am sure the Braves will kick butt this year.

I got to know some of the Minor league sportswriters and editors who would trade game and team mimeographed lists of players stats, game totals, scoreshdeets, spring and regular season press guides, etc, for Baseball cards.. I have boxes of these old memeographed hand collated guides full of fascinating names of players who had hopes and dreams, but most never made it.

putting a good hitter that far back cuts down on his at bats. that’s ok is all in front of him are hitting well, but if he is the 2nd to 4th best hitter this year it would be kinda silly to hit him that far back. between #2 and #5 are most likely IMO if he is hitting well.

Might settle for Chipper 3rd,and Freeman 7th,but I just don’t think Chipper will be the same player years ago,but it’s hard to say.His knees bother me just a little,and thats why I have him 7th.Not knocking Chipper,but he’s not as fast as he once was.

Tommy P—The Nats might be undervalued on this board but listed to the MLB Network guys and they are taking notice of what the Nats might be ready to do.
Mitch Williams picked them for second and the Marlins third at this point.
Most pundits are seeing a 4 team race for a while and there are more people picking the Braves for 4th than the Braves apologists would like to think. Mitch is not the only one.
Mark m words–The Braves will be in the low 80’s of wins and will be either third or 4th. If Josh Johsnson is right, we will be 4th.

I was scrolling through last evenings posts and saw nolie dissing on the Nationals. IMO that team is going to do some damage this year. Not quite a Division winner yet. But a definite candidate for one of the two Wild Card spots. (Assuming the Commish puts the two Wild Card team format in for this year)

Braves will win 85-95 games in 2012. 85 wins means the pitching carries an average offense, and 95 wins means the offense delivers to complement a dominant pitching staff. GO BRAVES!

Playoffs–That is true. How that deal got done is anyone’s guess, the public will never really know, the average ticket and TV watching fan does not understandor care about it except for the consequences of how the TV deal affects the Braves for the next remaining 20 yrs.
Right now, the ownership is the focal point of how the team is to be run in the future.
Because the Braves are a non core essential assett in LM’s portfolio, how much do they even care or how much time is put into generating new sources of revenue is a fair question.
Are they even a good investment for a sugar daddy type of ownership, that is a good question.

I see the Phillies winning 94, the Nats 91, the Fish at 85 or 86 W’s and the Braves 83 or 84. The poor Muts, well its more than 90 losses.

Ward__ there is no way you can bat Chipper 7th…. Protected by Pastor no way. Chipper should just start the year in the 3 hole and go from there. Here’s what I think. Of course Heyward would have to show improvements in ST.

If Heyward can return to 2010 form he makes for a good No.2 batter to start the season. Great plate discipline and patience to go along with his OBP ability and speed is a great combo. Hopefully he makes strides and is hitting 3rd by mid-season. I don’t like Freeman or McCann in the 3 hole, there base cloggers, Chipper runs better than both of them still.

VaBraves – Having someone like Freddie batting seventh is what happens in a strong lineup (I’m sure I’ll hear about that one). Rather have him down there with his power than Martin, who is much more a table setter when he’s hitting like we know he will now that he’s healthy.
No matter what Shaun claims, Heyward is not a number two hitter. He needs to be further down in the lineup.

VaBraves – Re: Prado behind Bourn. I keep hearing that, but think it’s total bs. Prado was injured last year. His strength was sapped and then he had a new player hitting in front of him that runs. He never really had any time to adjust since he was more concerned with trying to get his stroke back.
Late last year was an aberration all around. Let him hit there during ST and he’ll be fine and so wil Bourn.

IVAN – Doing pretty well. My wife has the flu, so I’m playing Joe Nurse right now. Lucky that I don’t get viral infections very often and never had the flu.
Should have said THREE RH hitters, but Pastornicky is probably going to be hitting eighth.
Have to face facts that we have a LH hitting lineup and will be (as has been the case in recent years) susceptible to LH pitching.

If he hasn’t learned how to hit a breaking ball, or hit with two strikes he better hope to walk a lot. I have to see his transformation to believe it. He was so totally lost at the plate last season, that I’m a little skeptical that he can turn it around quickly.

I think we have a very good lineup without the injuries and crazy slumps. Pretty safe to say Uggla will have a more balanced season and Prado will bounce back. Heyward should improve just can’t go crazy on expectations. Having Bourn from the start is a plus as well. Our lineup can be constructed a bunch of different ways.

Just saw where someone asked why I’d be concerned the the new pen guys aren’t married. First- men would not go to jail for that, they are all well over legal age. Second, I am not “concerned” about them. Just pointing out that guys like Vizcanio and Teheran are not, in fact, married. In 2010, putting Heyward in the 2 slot was a great idea. He was patient and was hitting early on. Some of the stat heads suggest putting your best hitter in the 2 slot anyway.
And with Bourn on the team and Prado’s seemingly apprehension of hitting behind Bourn, it would seem to me that you’d want to go something like this:

Heyward
Chipper (Still our best OBP guy with pop)
Mac (is still a huge clutch hitter)
Uggla (better suited for 4 or 5)
Freeman
Prado
Pastornicky
Now, when Mac sits, run Push everybody but Pastor up 1 slot. When Chipper sits, I’d be tempted to hit Freeman 3rd (if he is performing).
And one final thought: if cab is old, then what does that makes some of the rest of us??

if Heyward gets comfortable I am not worried about him. He just needs a good swing back and some confidence. Then he can get back to picking a good pitch to swing at and taking a good swing. If he can get back to those basics, he will be just fine.
Last year was so messed up because he could not take a good swing.

How would you rank the NL East teams going into the season? Most people seem to have the Phillies in the top spot and the Mets at the bottom with variations of the other three teams occupying the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots.
