If I’m not mistaking?
The Braves Didn’t even Sell-Out when they Last went to the NLCS (2001)???
If so? Thats odd! Because that 2001 Team had heart and overachieved…
I think we saw the 501 while we were there? don’t hold me to that, we had our two little boys with us so we didn’t hang around long, we stopped in Nashville on the way and did more “sight-seeing” while there, funny how that stuff comes up though huh?
January 24th, 20127:17 pm
and what is it that you are doing dude? you have been on here all day having fun with controversy just like every time you show up.
January 24th, 20127:18 pm
Over/Under on Braves All Stars This Year???
Im At 3???
Fab 5 Freddie will be a Reseve, Bank on It!
January 24th, 20127:19 pm
so while using a phone that is admittedly more difficult to type on you have it set up so you have to type in your name and address every time you post? that’s an interesting approach
Hugo Z Hackenbush
Is that little scamp Lentz up to his old tricks again?
January 24th, 20127:20 pm
ok Bat I was wrong, the Ted has managed to get filled a few times over the past decade, what an accomplishment…
More than a few, and you’re right, getting 50,000+ to a baseball game is quite an accomplishment.
Nolie, just admit it, you can’t staaaaaaand it when somebody disagrees with your opinion on ANYTHING…
January 24th, 20127:21 pm
Ah, he’s full of it, nolie.
I don’t have to do that with my IPhone.
January 24th, 20127:22 pm
The 501 is not a Place to take kids under 18 to, Trust me
Kids Meals there run around 12 Bucks…
Paul, Lou or just some other malcontent in desperate need of some attention. all the same
just how many times Bat? are we talking several games a year? or have we gone years without selling out at all? I mean what are we talking here? is it a lot or a little?
January 24th, 20127:23 pm
I NEVER disagree with nolie… and I for one am NEVER bleeding wrong
jeffrey doo doo
January 24th, 20127:24 pm
Why does it matter? Good grief
again with this zwacky character… me thinks this is SOMEBODY’s alternate personality who might have even been previously deriding other posters who may bave been doing the same…hmmm…
nolie: “and what is it that you are doing dude? you have been on here all day having fun with controversy just like every time you show up.”
Seriously? I wish there were a way to show my posting history, here. I’m on this blog so infrequently anymore for just this very reason. People get bowed up with their keyboard muscles and start posting with ’swagger” and attitude; civility left this blog long ago.
I figured maybe since a few years had passed since I spent a little time conversing on this thing that it had calmed down and civility had been restored. Boy, was I wrong.
After today, I’ll just go back to enjoying the world away from my monitor, like everyone else outside your lovely little bubble here.
It’s easy to just read DOB’s articles; heck, mlbtaderumors.com will link to any interesting posts he writes within the blog, too, now, so I’m set.
You folks enjoy this little world of false bravado and made-up machismo. It’s sad that the good-natured fans can’t enjoy a discussion without some of y’all pouncing on what people say with retorts laced with words like “ridiculous” and “ludicrous” and “asinine.”
You won’t change my mind, and thankfully, anyhow, I’ve seen a few people post here that they don’t disagree with what I’m saying. Not that agreeing with me made them more sane then anyone else; they just digested what I said before blurting out acerbic retorts.
January 24th, 20127:25 pm
The fight was on long before I got here with you in the center just like it is every single time that you appear, but yeah that’s all our fault
January 24th, 20127:26 pm
Tomahawkin, yeah that’s definitely the place I remember then, it’s in that ridiculous strip of restaurants not far out of campus?
My pork meals turned out very poorly, fat and fat tastes so bad alone.. bollocks
January 24th, 20127:27 pm
What does it matter. The point is the Braves draw large crowds on the weekends. Your alter ego, or buddy, Ron, claimed what, 11 times over 40k, what about 39,000+, or 38,000, thats more the Fenway will hold. The point is, the more people the Braves can get on the weekends, the better, to help offset week nights with 15,000.
nolie: “and what is it that you are doing dude? you have been on here all day having fun with controversy just like every time you show up.”
Seriously? I wish there were a way to show my posting history, here,,,ron
c’mon Ron that was addressed to BFS80s, but you answer.
calm down and get your personalities organized again, man. you are losing your concentration
January 24th, 20127:30 pm
not the same guy sir, drop the tired line
Goodnight y’all, love to everyone, well except Scott BORARSE
January 24th, 20127:31 pm
tired line? Ron just answered my comment addressed to you. how did that happen? all coincidence I guess
January 24th, 20127:32 pm
nite DB, stay outta trouble if you can
January 24th, 20127:33 pm
Whoops…Lentz lecturing us on civility. In related news, Roseanne Barr explains how to sing the national anthem…
bah this has lost all challenge and interest.
be good yall, including Ron/Mobile/BFS80 or whomever:?
January 24th, 20127:34 pm
Wow, glad to have Fielder not the NL East…
Thanks for the movie recommendations, DOB. The wife and I rarely are able to go these days due to having little ones, but the best movie I think I saw that came out in 2011 was Bridesmaids. Young Adult was a good one, too.
“Tomahawkin, yeah that’s definitely the place I remember then, it’s in that ridiculous strip of restaurants not far out of campus?”
That Place is a Great Place to work at in College…The owner personally Gives his employees a C-Note and Free Bottles of Champagne on New Years, Had Some crazy nights there before Leaving that town 8 years ago…
January 24th, 20127:35 pm
See ya, nolie
January 24th, 20127:37 pm
And, bigger idiots: here or Twitter?
BAS – Twitter.
January 24th, 20127:39 pm
the guy anwered thinking you were talking to him douchebag anybody coulda made that mistake, a lot of what he threw at you was dead on, you can’t have in intelligent, adult conversation with someone who disagrees with you without belittlng them and attempting to embarrass them so that they’ll go away. I always get on here with the intention of talking baseball and you or one of your cronies always starts in on the same tangent. Outside opinions aren’t welcome, only our own little tribe of misfits and miscreants. Why don’t you and your buddies just go start a club somewhere complete with secret passwords and “keepers of the flame”, just be careful if Andy catches ya with the matches, he’s worried you’ll burn down ol’ man Johnson’s barn…
January 24th, 20127:40 pm
I agree Zing, better he is not in Washington or Miami. Gives us a chance to not end up 4th, though some will probably still earmark us for there
January 24th, 20127:42 pm
I see Paul’s real personality is finally emerging with the lies and the anger.
January 24th, 20127:43 pm
Tomahawkin, nice man, always good to hear an employer treating employees right, surprisingly pretty campus, lot of stuff looked pretty new?
getting closer to another meltdown?
January 24th, 20127:48 pm
are we really so stupid that someone can come on here repeatedly and say the same things in the same language and react the same way to disagreement, but we are incapable of recognizing it because he is using another name?
That is kinda like not recognizing Clark Kent because he wears glasses
January 24th, 20127:49 pm
The most fun I ever had at Braves games was at Turner Field back in the 70’s when you could walk up and buy the cheapest seat and then around the Third Inning, you could walk down and sit in a front row seat on the First or Third base side and REALLY enjoy the game, because you could hear everything that was going on and was being said on the field. Great times to be a Baseball fan.
January 24th, 20127:51 pm
Been packing to move all day, so I missed out on this, here’s mine:
Sons of Anarchy
The Walking Dead
Hell on Wheels
January 24th, 20127:52 pm
you mean Atlanta Fulton County Stadium I’m sure Ken
nolie, for the LAST TIME, the other two might be the same person, I thought it suspicious that the Mobile Bay guy disappeared so quickly once that line of attack started, but for the love of God, I’m not one of them! crimanitly!
January 24th, 20127:57 pm
You won’t change my mind, and thankfully, anyhow ……….. Done Ron Roberts
Okay sure, you won’t change your mind, just your name. You’ll still be here, you always are.
January 24th, 20128:03 pm
anybody else disturbed by the trend towards these awful contracts, i.e. Prince Fielder? 5 yr contracts seldom pay off, Fielder for 9 YEARS?
January 24th, 20128:10 pm
seems to me that the trend is getting no worse. Both Fielder and Pujols got less than they might have, neither approached Arods career
January 24th, 20128:14 pm
I am not disturbed by the big contracts as long as its not the Braves signing one of them. Let another team make that mistake. There are very few that would come close of making sense.
January 24th, 20128:17 pm
personally I think anything over three years isn’t in the best interest of the club, too much can go wrong. I’d be interested to see how much those insurance policies cost that the clubs take out on those contracts…
January 24th, 20128:18 pm
with really big names they are alright for some teams. The team might make enough extra in attendance at the beginning to balance the last few likely poor years, but I agree that they are usually bad deals and smart teams stay away
anybody else disturbed by the trend towards these awful contracts, i.e. Prince Fielder? 5 yr contracts seldom pay off, Fielder for 9 YEARS?”
It All Started in 1999 When Kevin Brown Sign the 1st 100 mill contract (7 years). A-Fraud took it to Another level with the 10-252 mill in 2001
January 24th, 20128:19 pm
I would like to say I’m surprised Fielder gotb9 years, but I guess I’m not. It’s still crazy to give it to him.
What is going to look like at 34-37? …………… Round is my guess
The day of three year contracts for star players is long gone. even some of the mediocre shortstops got three years
January 24th, 20128:23 pm
oh I agree guys, just sayin’ I think the clubs should have fought that one with more clout. as much as I like Chipper and have followed his career since he was drafted, the last contract Atlanta drafted for him wasn’t so much smart business as tipping the cap to him, just can’t figure why Detroit would do that for Fielder, a FA and an accomplished tool and clubhouse virus, strange, I predicted he’d be lucky to get 5 yrs and that the rumors were BS…
Signing Heap has probably saved the Braves some money.
I read something about the insurance being harder to get on those long contracts and cost prohibitive
January 24th, 20128:24 pm
I’m Disturbed By These Stoopid Arse Contracts! Who Pays For It? The Fans when They Spend a Fortune to take their kids to the games…
The Thought of this Kind of Hustling by the Owners and The Agents Makes me want to Start Acting Girly Like Prince!
Where The Hell is The Gov’t Regulation on these stoopid contracts….?
January 24th, 20128:25 pm
it started long before Brown, Wayne Garland got a ten year contract back in the 70s
January 24th, 20128:27 pm
I’m pretty sure the government can’t tell companies how much they can pay their employees.
I was sitting around with a buncha Detroit baseball guys when the news about Garland broke. pandemonium ensued
January 24th, 20128:28 pm
nolie: Duh, I guess I’m really an OLD f@rt whose losing his mind!
I can easily see both Double J and Big Red being asked to recieve 5 yr 80-95mill contracts respectively especially if start becoming innings eaters and stay healthy…
We All Know That for the most part, both Double J and Big Red Have both had Crappy Run Support in Both their respective careers here
January 24th, 20128:29 pm
I love the new uniforms. And the red ones wouldn’t be so bad if they toned down the red a bit. Those things are almost neon and are 10x worse than they already are with white instead of gray pants.
January 24th, 20128:30 pm
now that’s interesting, I wonder why? you would almost think that alone would make Fielder untouchable on a super long-term deal, strange just really strange. I think the one that really soured me on the long-term deals was Mike Hampton’s deal with us… God that was so awful. I felt so bad for him too, because it obviously ripped him up knowing he didn’t contribute hardly anything after the Braves signed him. Will say this tho, to his credit, WHEN he was healthy, he was great, one of the best in the game…
musta been like the 60s Ken, if you can remember it right you weren’t really there
January 24th, 20128:31 pm
Double J got Crappy Run Support in 2009, otherwise he wins 17-19 games and Big Red Got Nasty Crap Run Support The Last 4 Months of 2010…Otherwise he wins more than 15 games…
Rob from SC
So does the last bench spot really come down to Constanza, Sutton, or Josh Wilson? We really need a better option.
January 24th, 20128:32 pm
I agree that 9 years is prolly stretching it to the praying point with Fielder
“I love the new uniforms. And the red ones wouldn’t be so bad if they toned down the red a bit. Those things are almost neon and are 10x worse than they already are with white instead of gray pants.”
The Red Uni’s are Clean! The Remind me of Those old Falcon Throwbacks!
January 24th, 20128:33 pm
Harold Reynolds just said Prince was a very good defender, hmm, Detroit must’ve signed him to a PR deal during a commercial break…
January 24th, 20128:34 pm
I think Wilson is higher than the 25th man since he plays short, I’d say he’s almost a lock if he stays healthy.might indeed be Durango/constanza. I’d prefer Durango I think
January 24th, 20128:36 pm
metrics-wise he suffers strongly from lack of range, his glove is not all that bad
Fielder, that is
McFann O O o
January 24th, 20128:37 pm
Bat M. Signing Heap has probably saved the Braves some money.
Heck yeah! Bargain basement prices…
The Red Uni’s are Clean!
Considering Georgia’s red clay, how can you tell.
Georgia vs Kentucky @ 9:00pm
Obama State of the Nation @ 9:00pm
I know where I’ll be – watching TIVO
I hate that we let the AAA catcher get away,I know he didn’t hit a lot, but he was good defensively and was good insurance if you know what I mean…
January 24th, 20128:39 pm
they have Ross with Bethancourt progressing up the system, I guess they thought that was enough
1. Breaking Bad
2. The Walking Dead
3. Falling Skies
4. Secret Life (I don’t know how, but got hooked along time ago)
I haven’t seen Sons of Anarchy, Justified or Hells of wheels yet. Just not enough time.
Yeah I don’t know but I read a fans graph, or something like that, that claimed it was several million dollars.
January 24th, 20128:40 pm
Hell on Wheels was good, but even as a dedicated western fan I was a bit disappointed, not sure exactly why
January 24th, 20128:41 pm
So how do yall think the Braves will handle Bethancourt? Will he be in the Majors in 2013?
January 24th, 20128:43 pm
I can only keep up with just a few series like that. I actually just got introduced to Breaking Bad like 3 months ago, got hooked. Watched every season within 3 weeks lol. Best show ever.
January 24th, 20128:44 pm
At what 20 years old, no I don’t think so.
January 24th, 20128:46 pm
oh ok, didn’t realize he was that young still. No reason to be excited about him yet then. I think if David Ross has another solid season, they’ll offer him a 1 year deal for 1.5 mil for 2013.
I think they might try to re-sing Ross again , Bethancourt 2 years away at least
January 24th, 20128:47 pm
I’ve followed Bethancourt, I like his make-up. He reminds me of a young Benito Santiago. I live within reasonable driving distance of the Asheville Tourists and get to some of their games, usually try to get a game in against the Rome Braves and I saw him play for Rome. Quick behind the plate to be so tall, quick bat too. He hit a rope of a double off the center field wall in Asheville that night and it’s well over 400′. Problem is he’s progressed slowly, don’t know how close he is to ML ready? Keeping the other guy one more year at Gwinnet might’ve been smart. Anybody know much about the Kennelly guy? I hear he’s up and down a lot and might not catch in the show…
Bethancourt is only 19and from the little I have heard, is still very much a work in progress with the bat. Will be a few years before he’s ready
January 24th, 20128:48 pm
Right. He’ll be 22 in September, 2013…just ’cause BMac came up at 21 doesn’t mean this guy will…
January 24th, 20128:49 pm
Bethancourt’s best tool is his defense right? He is just coming off a surprising season with the bat?
January 24th, 20128:51 pm
He is supposed to be outstanding defensively from what I’ve heard
January 24th, 20128:52 pm
Every time I see Luis Durango’s name, I see John Saxon’s character Luis Chalma in the movie Joe Kidd.
…Involuntary memory trigger.
I wrote Josh Wilson NRI
January 24th, 20128:56 pm
Ah, 21 in 2013, wel that changes things
Sorry VaBF looks like I missed on the kids age.
January 24th, 20129:01 pm
Well, at least Prince is in the AL. gNats never had a chance, apparently.
nolie: there was a 60’s???
January 24th, 20129:05 pm
Pretty let down right now with all the news of the big signings, trades etc and all we have to talk about is hot dog prices, new uniforms, hoping Heyward can get a hit and how two of our best starters can make it past the All Star break! Did not address an outfield need , right hand power hitter and how Not to overwork our great young back end or the game pitchers. Still a big fan, trying to get pumped with what we have. Go Braves, we’re just depending on too many “ifs”
January 24th, 20129:06 pm
Boscan was the guy we let go Matt Kennelly is the guy probably taking his place at AAA, don’t know much about him other than he’s Australian…
January 24th, 20129:07 pm
January 24th, 20129:09 pm
This Bores Me…No Football No Baseball, Nothing on TV…I guess I will watch the State of The Union
January 24th, 20129:19 pm
agree – Bethancourt at least 2 years away for regular catching duty. If the unthinkable happens and McCann has an injury causing him to miss significant time, we may see him earlier.
Considering that (”The Prince of Albert Puljos” get it) both are in the AL now. Freddie Freeman has a good chance to make the NL All-Star Team. If he dosent endure the Sophmore Curse.
January 24th, 20129:21 pm
What? Braves interested in Oswalt?
January 24th, 20129:24 pm
Outside opinions aren’t welcome, only your own little tribe of misfits and miscreants — BravesFanSince80’s
While I was away, I see you guys voted down another, ‘hopeful’, from admission to our, “little tribe”.
When are people going to realize that we don’t just let, anybody, in?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
