Tier Two – Cardinals, D-Backs, Giants, Reds, Braves
Tier Three – Nationals, Marlins, Brewers, Dodgers

That’s fair, and they also had career offensive years from a lot of their guys. I guess I just like Aaron Hill on a bounce back and maybe Drew will contribute. And I like the Cahill addition.
If the Giants made smarter offensive acquisitions(getting better players than Melky, Pagan and upgrading at SS – Theriot isn’t that), they’d have my vote in the NL West, hands down.

Speaking of weather… 40° tomorrow where I live in upstate, NY in the dead of winter… the ski resorts have been hurting. I’m not such a fan of the white stuff so this warmer weather has been a plus for me.

Wow just wow. Fan based team and baseball sites and blogs on the internet seem to have garnered a following of their own groupie type following. A fan starts a baseball site and has a Jim Jones following and all of a sudden the site has credentials. OMG
There seems to be hundreds of fan sponsored, fan driven sites, like CAC, and others that have risen without credentials like maybe an endorsement from Peter Gammons, Tracy Ringolsby, David O’Brien, Mark Bowman, Richard Justice and I can go on, but naive young fans drink up their rubbish as fact

Absolutely. Most of those on the blog that pay attention have been saying they’re on the upswing for the last two years. Gonna be a tough NL East battle, no doubt.

I agree Dave, how can the Nats not be considered what the Braves are which is a potential Wild Card team. SP staffs are equal imo if Strasburg is healthy. Pen is ours, but theirs is tough too. I think their offense is a little better if Werth and Zimmerman hit like they’re supposed to.

Ranking the NL East by position, this is what I have:
Starters: 1. Phillies 2A. Nationals 2B. Braves 4. Marlins 5. Mets
-Phillies still the team to beat here with Halladay, Hamels, and
Lee. Worley was solid last year. Nats made big splash with Gio.
Strasburg – sky is the limit. Zimmerman is underrated. Braves with too many question marks to put #2 by themselves. Marlins add Buehrle but still not in the same class as the first 3. Mets are sorry.
1B: 1. Phillies 2. Braves 3. Marlins 4. Nats 5. Mets. Half season of Howard trumps everyone else. Freeman is a solid bat with great defense.
2B: 1. Braves 2. Phillies 3. Nats 4. Marlins 5. Mets. Utley has fallen in recent years
SS: 1. Marlins 2. Phillies 3. Nats 4. Braves 5. Mets
3B: 1. Nats 2-4 Braves, Mets, Marlins 5: Phillies. Chipper, Ramirez and Wright could all be the best of the group or the worst or injured.
OF: 1. Nats 2. Phillies 3. Braves 4. Marlins 5. Mets. Mike Stanton may be the best of the bunch. Can Heyward rebound? Prado? Looking forward to seeing Harper.
Bullpen: 1. Braves, Braves, Braves
All in all tough division where every position there are legitimate arguments to be made. Aside from the Mets usually being sorry at every position, 2-4 is often up for grabs.
Should be a fun year.

Seems like Buster Olney picks us to finish real good every year and only once have we made the playoffs. So this could be a good thing.

He’s gonna be a free agent outfielder that is talked about here, but wow, just looked at Andre Ethier’s splits……he’s like Ryan Howard-lite. I’m not sure how great of a defensive player he is, pretty sure he’s solid, but his career like vs. LHP is going to be a real red flag for him heading into free agency next fall: .242/.302/.359(872 PA’s) vs. RHP: .309/.386/.523(2,491 PA’s).
He’ll still get plenty of play and probably a nice 4-5 year deal, but that’s kinda scary.

Just got done watching the end of the Murray St v. SEMO game..Murrary St remains the only undefeated team in the country. Murray St (22-0) should play Binghamton University (0-22 only team w/ no wins in the country)…okay well actually it probably wouldn’t be that entertaining.

Speaking of other free agent outfielders for next winter……
According to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was spotted drinking alcohol on Monday night at a bar in the Dallas area.
If true, that’s sad…..he needs to stay away at all times and promised the Rangers and his fam he would stay away.

Yeah, I mean, if he isn’t going to provide value with the glove and can’t hit LHP….then not sure I’d want the Braves to bring him in next year. Not to say they would, but among the free agent outfielders, I think he may be pretty over-hyped.

and not getting any better. his homers fell off a lot last season and he hit 563(ugh) against lefties. He needs a big bounce back season to capitalize on FA

Sigh…..really wish we signed Beltran for two years. No free agent outfielder this coming winter would of deterred me from having that guy in the outfield from 2012-2013. Injuries be damned. Bringing Carlos in and keeping Prado as well would of been amazing. I know it never was going to happen, but that’s the one time where I wish the Braves found 10-12 million under the sofa cushions…..
Bring in Carlos and pair him with Chipper for Jones last two seasons. Oh well.

Glad you enjoyed it, Tyler. It’s rare that I leave a theatre so focused on what I just saw as long as I was upon leaving after seeing Take Shelter. Just so powerful, provocative, sad, and real. And that ending — wow. I still am not sure what it meant, nor do I think we were supposed to be sure.
