Thanks for new blog DOB!!!!
January 23rd, 201211:09 pm
Earliest ever for me on a new blog, SWEET
January 23rd, 201211:12 pm
no true grit? or was that 2010?
January 23rd, 201211:14 pm
Okay I have not been paying close attention to all this, but let me see if I have the basics.
Cody Ross signed with Boston for 3 million dollars, is that right?
And you think he would have played for Atlanta for 2.5 million because he likes Fredi?
$500,000.00 less ……………. I don’t know the guy but I would bet he loves his kids a hell of a lot more than he likes Fredi.
Love the new uni’s, only suggestion would be to take the name off the back to make it even more old school.
January 23rd, 201211:16 pm
Cousin Vicker: True Grit came out in December 2010.
Deal is not officially done yet, from what I can tell, but it sounds like $3 million plus incentives for games played. So it could be for significantly more than that…can’t blame the guy for taking the better offer.
January 23rd, 201211:25 pm
I think the Braves could have signed Ross for about the same price. One year for 3 mil. They should have signed him. Wren and Liberty Cheapia are the reason why.
It’s time for baseball… Spring Traning soon and new Blog to pass the time.
January 23rd, 201211:27 pm
Ross chose to sign elsewhere. There is nobody else that is the reason why he didn’t sign with the Braves.
Liberty Cheapia doesn’t care whether the Braves win or not!
January 23rd, 201211:28 pm
No new help coming for the Braves. Lol
Shoulda left the tomahawk on the front of the Braves’ jersey. I like the crème color, though. The Indians have very retro-looking uniforms, which are nice.
The jersey is good but would be better with the tomahawk,…..
January 23rd, 201211:29 pm
Good read, DOB. Thanks
You never see any of Liberty Cheapia at the games!
January 23rd, 201211:31 pm
Fredi will have his charges fired up and ready to go. Hope springs eternal. All is well.
Guess that comment I saw might come true. Braves fans will come to the games camoflauged as empty seats.
Good stuff, Dave. You’d fit in perfectly at CHUD.com with your taste in movies.
January 23rd, 201211:33 pm
No Warrior? Excellent movie and very under rated.
DOB, Moneyball? Moneyball? Seriously? I thought it was terrible. Worst baseball movie ever.
The A Bomb - OUTCHOKED ® TWICE!
January 23rd, 201211:35 pm
Not sure why the black tomahawk (1948) isn’t being used….much nicer. Maybe these would have been good for 2016 — 50th anniversary.
Maybe if the Braves sell enough of them we can afford a power hitter.
January 23rd, 201211:36 pm
Liberty Media and McGuirk can shoe it up their rich asses!
January 23rd, 201211:41 pm
I can see why uga-brave gets so revved up just thinking of LM and McGuirk.
January 23rd, 201211:43 pm
it’s kinda embarrassing to realize that some of these folks is fellow Braves fans……
January 23rd, 201211:46 pm
Concerning payroll vs attendance…
From “Field of Dreams”..”If you build it they will come”.
From Liberty Media..”If they don’t come we’re not going to build it”.
January 23rd, 201211:47 pm
Juan Pierre still contributes at major league level. Would be interesting pick up.
Lee in S GA
DOB …u need to make ur mind up or u a sports reporter, a music or movie critic…the world wants to know
January 23rd, 201211:50 pm
Juan Pierre does hit a lot of singles…
Playoffs commence 1/27 and it looks like MATT KENNELLY will be the last BRAVE standing playing in winter ball this year.
All teams in the DOMINICAN and VENEZUELAN finals do not regularly play current BRAVES.
January 23rd, 201211:52 pm
Funny how that string of division winning seasons ended right as our payroll went south…
Why Wren hasn’t made some less-than-rewarding trade to satisfy the Do something or I’ll jump off the roof crowd continues to puzzle me…
January 23rd, 201211:54 pm
Attendance bumped up when the Heyward buzz arrived.
Conclusion: Bring in bigger names and you’ll see greater numbers.
Braves fans aren’t stupid, we’ve seen great regular seasons before. And when they flame out, we’ve seen minor changes that don’t amount to anything.
January 23rd, 201211:56 pm
Poor Rory McIlroy…
January 24th, 201212:00 am
never been a Pierre fan, I’ll pass
You have crap for taste. And reading these comments you start to realize just how stupid our fan base is.
Also I can’t believe the braves only drew 2.3 million in 2004 that team was good. Chipper and Sheffield in the middle of the order. Good god is Atlanta a horrible sports town.
January 24th, 201212:01 am
If Juan Pierre played RF some team would need to supply him with that Hot Dog Launcher so he wouldnt need 6 cut off men to help get the ball back to the infield
January 24th, 201212:02 am
The braves did spend money like bringing in Sheffield and the attendance got worse. Atlanta blows just a horrible city.
DOB …u need to make ur mind up or u a sports reporter, a music or movie critic…the world wants to know — Lee in S GA
No, I don’t. And no, I don’t think the world wants to know.
January 24th, 201212:03 am
Forgot about Ankiel. Probably best option available for us right now. Good defensive OF. Strong arm. Wouldn’t mind having him back.
January 24th, 201212:06 am
Atlanta blows just a horrible city.
Just curious as to where you live, and what has driven you to support a team from such a den of iniquity…
January 24th, 201212:07 am
Wow, there were 20 movies in 2011?!?
January 24th, 201212:08 am
Or, perhaps, you’re referring to traffic…
January 24th, 201212:12 am
Drive…Don’t know about the movie but, who’s gunna drive you home tonight…Love that song.
January 24th, 201212:13 am
Paulina in the video – so horribly depressing…
January 24th, 201212:19 am
Phenomenal tennis match – Clijsters over Wozniacki…
January 24th, 201212:21 am
Looking like we’ve run through the random new blog commenters for now – more will undoubtedly surface in the morning…
January 24th, 201212:22 am
As despicable people such as myself wait for Braveone to see how much cab beat me by on the last blog…
It will be a lot
Bay Area Steve
January 24th, 201212:38 am
“Phenomenal tennis match”
I musta been watchin’ somethin’ different. I thought my girl got handled…
January 24th, 201212:39 am
I just went down a list of the movies in 2011 and came up with my top 8……… er my only 8 movies. I also saw a few others from earlier years on long flights.
I only saw 1 movie on DOB’s list; Moneyball. But also liked the Harry Potter movie, Sherlock Holmes and War Horse.
Also saw The Green Hornet (was on a flight), The Adjustment Bureau, Battle:LA, and The Muppets.
January 24th, 201212:40 am
You see much of Azarenka? Got to be the favorite, no?
January 24th, 201212:41 am
The Adjustment Bureau annoyed the crap out of me- could have been so much better…just didn’t seem to go anywhere. (The Green Hornet was terrible. Loved Harry Potter) (Only spent money on Harry. Others I watched On Demand or on movie channels)
“Also saw The Green Hornet”
Don’t admit that. Ever.
If I’m Cody Ross, I’m guessing I’d get more AB’s in Boston’s outfield than in Atlanta’s.
January 24th, 201212:43 am
I was on a long flight from Detroit to Paris. I don’t sleep well on airplanes, so I was a captive audience.
But it was about as bad a movie as I have seen since Xanadu!
January 24th, 201212:47 am
Headed to Paris, watching “Green Hornet”
There ought to be some sort of life-force that disallows such a thing. In-flight system breakdown, at minimum, is what I’m sayin’…
(I really should shut up; I’ve never seen the movie. Most of my opinion is based on Seth Rogen cast as a superhero; decided I’d abstain.)
January 24th, 201212:50 am
ok I figured. one of the best remakes I have seen.
January 24th, 201212:52 am
I caught most of the Azarenka match. She’s playing very well- that semi should be a good one. Would love to see her or Kvitova win it all
January 24th, 201212:53 am
????? HMMPH! same old drivel……
January 24th, 201212:54 am
I’m off to bed. Good night all!
January 24th, 201212:55 am
I think Ankiel would be a decent choice for the fifth bench spot, but one name that nobody (but me) has mentioned for the last spot on the bench is Kosuke F. (blog filter wont let me type his last name). He plays all 3 outfield spots, hits in the .260 range against both righties and lefties, and he gets on base at a solid .350 to .360 clip. Thats solid for a back-up, no power but I want somebody who can get on the bases.
I’ll check back in Feb. maybe then clarity will be clearer…..lmao!
January 24th, 201212:56 am
Seriously??? down to wanting Rick Ankew back??? hell to the NOOOO!
January 24th, 201212:57 am
What are you guys trying to do drive Brian Jordan up the damn wall?
January 24th, 20121:01 am
Ghost Protocal was a great film as well. Kingdom of Rust by Doves is an exceptional album.
Nobody is trying to do anything. We’re mainly just passing the time when things are a bit slow. No biggie.
I’m just watching Triple D and surfing the web in Portland.
When it’s sleepy time out west (northwest)…………
January 24th, 20121:02 am
F’dome probably costs at least $300. Too much… TnPaul?
January 24th, 20121:05 am
These guys on Triple D are a hoot. Nicky and Mikey are New Yorkers that started out as stock brokers until one day Nicky says to Mikey, “Hey Mikey, you wanna open a restaurant wid me?” Mikey says, “Why not!”
You got one, two tree eggs …………
I have grown used to the fact that the lights of LA make it virtually impossible to see the sky – very exciting tonight to have seen Orion’s belt for the first time since I left Atlanta…
Classy new Alternates tho!
January 24th, 20121:12 am
What makes tonight different?
And F’dome gets on base at a decent clip, but not much power. And could play CF in a pinch.
January 24th, 20121:13 am
I see the Mets are trying to shed some taint…thought Reyes was already gone?
January 24th, 20121:15 am
Wayne – the rain seems to have really cleared things out, combined with relatively low temps for here…
January 24th, 20121:20 am
There are a few areas I cover that have some incredible sky views when it’s clear. Especially incredible when it’s a full moon.
The best is on Togwotee Pass on Hwy 26 just east of The Tetons in Wyoming. Was on the pass 2-3 years back on a new moon night when it was totally dark on top. Incredible!
January 24th, 20121:21 am
I always wondered if players use their down time on the road to hit the movies during the daytime. I know I would and sounds like you have too some DOB. Enjoyed the picks. I still don’t know how to describe Shame, but i liked it. I think the only one I would add would be Hugo to that list. Great story and a little history on cinema. Martha Marcy & Lincoln Lawyer were underrated. Excellent soundtrack too on the latter. The French actress in The Artist is worth the price of admission alone. Wow. Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Tinker Tailor- no clue. I was lost about 15 minutes in…..I gave it a shot though.
the Kosuke who made 14 mil last season?
January 24th, 20121:23 am
The Kosuke who will probably retire or get a minimum contract this year. (or at least it would seem) Career .775 OPS guy against righties.
How ya doing nolie?
January 24th, 20121:28 am
For no more than 2 million, I would sign F’dome. In 2225 career at-bats he gets on base a .361 clip. This team struggled bad getting on base last year and you cant score if you are not on base. Plus in 2009 and 2010 he got base at .375 and .371 clips. Thats very respectable.
January 24th, 20121:34 am
I like the alternate jerseys. Wish they would get rid of those horrendous red jerseys, those are the worst jerseys the Braves have ever had.
January 24th, 20121:55 am
Davis, players don’t really have time to go to movies during daytime before night games, as most get to the ballpark between 1-2 p.m., sometimes earlier. But a lot of them do go to movies on off days, especially on the road when they’re usually staying in hotels that are near theatres.
Agree with your opinions on Martha, etc., and Lincoln Lawyer being underrated, and The Artist — I felt same way you did, going in couldn’t imagine I’d be so entertained, but I was. That French actress is incredible, so charismatic and full of energy. The lead actor was also great.
January 24th, 20122:01 am
The Lincoln Lawyer? No. Very disappointing movie. How many endings did it have, 4?
I agree with your other picks. I finally saw Ides of March last night and enjoyed it immensely.
January 24th, 20122:09 am
I also thought Mel Gibson’s performance in The Beaver was exceptional, but, due to his numerous indiscretions, will garner nary a whisper.
January 24th, 20122:17 am
Great to have you back DOB. Many of those movies you’ve cited in your Top 20 haven’t made it out here yet, so have made a note to keep an eye out for them. 2011 wasn’t a particularly great year for movies.
NO MORE WREN
January 24th, 20122:25 am
Please tell me the new jersey replaces that horrible red Sunday jersey. Hate that thing!
January 24th, 20122:29 am
Martin Prado missed five weeks of the 2012 season because of a staph infection that required surgery. – DOB (Under Prado picture)
Really? 2012? The DOB curse starts before the season even begins.
January 24th, 20122:40 am
Great Blog DOB. Are these movies in order of how great u thought they were or in no particular order?
January 24th, 20122:48 am
I personally think that attendance will be down. Perhaps as low as 2 million for the season or below that.
Here are my reasons for this theory
#1. Failure to make any deals to excite fans
#2. The collapse of September still resonates with fans in a negative way.
#3. The team kepping Fredi Gonzalez as manager after this collapse. (Sometimes you need a scapegoat to rally the fanbase)
#4. I personally do not think they will be competive with Philly or Miami and possibly Washington. So attendance in the later months will be lower.
#5. The Economy (People are having to stretching their wallets more and more on gas and food and people are less likely to spend on luxuries such as baseball games)
January 24th, 20123:13 am
Bat- Thanks for the news on Cody Ross. Maybe Wren can do better? Would’ve liked Cody to sign with Braves, but can’t always have that way.We might have to go with what the Braves have, and hope it’s enough………
January 24th, 20123:16 am
Braves will be just fine, and looking forward to a new season, and bright future………
January 24th, 20123:20 am
I think when you see the warrior it will be top 10 in your movies DOB. I had it as no.1 for myself, just a ripping movie, great story and well acted.
January 24th, 20123:22 am
I personally think that attendance will be down. Perhaps as low as 2 million for the season or below that. — J-Man
I’ll bet you are off by at least a quarter-million people. In other words, I bet attendance is at least 2.25 million, while you say 2 million or fewer. Gentlemen’s wager, we’ll jot this down.
January 24th, 20123:23 am
Great Blog DOB. Are these movies in order of how great u thought they were or in no particular order? — Kyle
Yeah, I rated them in order of preference, though admittedly that gets a bit tough after 10 or so, if not sooner. Splitting hairs, you know?
January 24th, 20123:25 am
Watched Drive earlier today and loved it. Was actually goin to tweet you, DOB to see if you had seen it yet. But, I saw the new blog and figured Id check it out, and there is Drive in the two hole. If any of you guys haven’t seen it yet, you need to.
January 24th, 20123:26 am
Please tell me the new jersey replaces that horrible red Sunday jersey. Hate that thing!
— No More wren
Guess you missed this paragraph in the blog: “The Braves have neither confirmed nor denied there will be a new uniform, but I have it on good authority that it is indeed the alternate jersey, which will be worn with matching colored pants and won’t replace the red home jerseys or the regular home uni.”
January 24th, 20123:27 am
Really? 2012? The DOB curse starts before the season even begins. — No More Wren
But at least we know you look at the pictures and read the cutlines below them!
January 24th, 20123:34 am
Dob, wondering if you ever watch Eastbound and Down?
January 24th, 20123:39 am
Tonight read something sad. My sympathy goes out to Williams for the 49ers. Death threats should stop! Football is is game for fun,and all the players played their hearts out,and it came down to two mistakes at the end.Things happen, and we should learn to be real fans, and accept what ever happens…..Death threats…..How low………………..
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
