VaBraves – I’m confident in Matt to hit LHP, just wonder where his power went to. However, the power argument is like as with Prado in LF – Uggla at 2B makes up for it. Still……..Maybe the new hitting coach hels Matt get back to where he was when he killed LHP. If that happens, we’re good to go.

Can’t wait to see what Cody Ross, JD Drew, Wilson Betemit and others sign for. Still think we missed out on Andruw Jones, perfect fit for what we needed. He completly mashed LHP and would have been a RH power bat off the bench opposite Hinske.

Lew, I really never wanted a trade of Prado. I could accept a trade of JJ for someone who was young and could fit into LF. I really thought the easiest way would have been thru free agency, signing the best player you could afford. Willingham would have been a great fit, obviously the budget would not allow that thought process. It seems we really are locked into the team we have and might as well learn to live with it. I just dread the thought of where we will be if Chipper goes down.

Squirrel – Yeah, Martin is a very valuable player – especially for the Braves. I have no concerns with him playing third, but we should definitely lose offense when CHipper is down, unless that above mentioned LF platoon comes through.

Still…… I really believe Prado comes back with a vengeance, Heyward turns it around and Uggla hits better early on. I think we’ll be fine.

Now if NEXT winter, with extra money, we don’t get a t least ONE impact player, I may join Disgusted on The Dark Side.

Lowe’s 10 mil off books, Bourn’s 7 mil, Hinske’s 1.5 mil, Diaz’s 2 mil, Wilson’s 1 mil, Ross’s 1.6 mil, Moylan 1 mil

24 million for sure off the books.

Then Hopefully Chipper’s 14 mil will be gone, I see us trading Jurrjens and his possible 9-10 mil salary and I don’t see us paying EOF around 4 mil.

Around another 28 mil possibly off books

Then we have Options for McCann 13 mil and Hudson 9 mil I’m sure McCann will get a new deal but Huddy possibly could be gone with all the starters we have.

So another possible 9 mil.

All together a possible 52 million off the books, that’s before Arb raises of course.

But anyways, I hope what’s been said about his defense is either a little exaggerated, or he improved it over the offseason.

Seriously, this offseason has gotten way too long for some of you. A new hobby might be in order for the final weeks before spring training.

Webster, you’re talking about a pitcher with a 181-97 record and 3.40 ERA, who spent half his career in the American League. If you look at Baseball Reference.com, the first five names that come up as “Similar Pitchers” to Hudson statistically are CC Sabathia, Ron Guidry and Roy Halladay. The first five in “Similar Pitchers Through (Age) 35″ are Kevin Brown, David Cone, Andy Pettitte, Dwight Gooden and Bret Saberhagen.

Are you familiar with those pitchers?

Ditto that!

I still say Tim Hudson is on the cusp of being Hall of Fame material. However, Huddy will have to remain effective for another five to six years. But what few realize is that excluding 2009 which Hudson lost to injury, the man has averaged fifteen wins every year for twelve seasons.

Yep, Huddy should have won twenty games last year.

Again, they should have made the playoffs in 2011. However, the offense tanked. Why? Does anybody realize that our 2010 offense led the N.L in walks, OBP and doubles…..and we didn’t have Dan Uggla in the line up.

2011 saw the offense fail. Mainly because they were ranked 8th in walks, 14th in OBP and 4th in strike outs with 1260. Simply put, we could not get on base nearly enough.

Why? because Terry Pendleton should have kept his job, hiring Larry Parrish was a huge mistake and the fault lies in the mistaken judgement of our venerable GM…….Frank Wren.

Refreshing comment from the co-owner of the Rangers. When if ever will we hear something like this from Liberty or McGuirk?

When it comes to the club’s finances, Simpson talked about a strategy to make the Rangers a “dynasty.”

“We’re writing checks to make this stuff happen, but at some point it’s got to sustain itself and we understand that,” Simpson said. “Winning comes first and then support comes. You can’t ask fans to come to every game while you’re losing and have them help you increase your revenues. You’re trying to take it to a new level, a sustainable level, where it is a dynasty franchise like the Dallas Cowboys achieved. Then in the off-years, and inevitably you’ll have some, they still support you.”

No one who owns the Braves is saying this and more importantly acting like this… We need to think about it before we chastise people for not going to games…

Interesting post. Hard to believe we weren’t able to bring in a more solid 4th OFer option. When your team can’t afford pieces like that I believe that’s a issue. With all the money we expect to come off the books after the season, increasing payroll this off season would have made alot of sense. Another 3 to 5 million would have helped Wren a ton for improving this team for the 2012 season.

The Texas Rangers’ payroll was a couple million more than the Braves last year. I know having Liberty as the owners isn’t the best, but it could be a lot worse. We’re a middle market team with average attendance and an average payroll.

Besides, we’ll see how the Rangers or the Angels or these other teams dishing out huge contracts and huge payrolls are doing in a few years. Didn’t work out for the Dodgers or Mets.

In regards to Hudson and those thinking he is just an okay or decent pitcher, learn some facts. Hudson is ranked 3rd in wins among active pitchers. ONLY Wakefield, Halladay are above Hudson. yes Wakefield has more wins than any other active pitcher. Bottom line is Hudson is a baller. He is among the list of top pitchers. He simply goes out each year very quietly win you 15-18 games.

Cody Ross is solid. I think he’s a improvement over what we have right now. I think Ross will sign where ever the most playing time will be offered. I really think he’s dreaming if anyone see’s him as a starting outfielder. He’s probably gonna have to settle for a 1 year deal with a possible option. He won’t get close to last year’s salary of 6+ million. I think if he signed here he would log around 50 to 70 starts in the Outfield. I’m figuring that Prado is gonna play at least 30 games at 3rd base, and Bourn and Heyward get around 10 days off a piece. He’ll also get some pinch hitting in too.

Attendance is down to 2007 levels which is the wrong direction but the comment about winning versus expecting fans to show up when you are losing or in the case of the Braves face planting yards from the finish line was the key point.

With the TV contracts in TX and LAA, managers and staff they should be fine. ATL is clearing 20mm/year in net profit and acting like they are losing 20mm a year.

That is the difference. TX and LAA want to win or as they said in the article “create a dynasty” of winning.

Liberty and the ATL FO just want to get by and win if things break right.

Which description above will bring out the fans?

Prado is staying b/c Wren over values his players and he has no 3B option in his entire system (major or minor leagues) to back up Chipper except Prado.

Nothing good in that statement. Not one bit.

Prado is a 2B not a LF or a every day 3B b/c he is not a slugger. Sooner or later he is going.

Submit your entries for the 2012 Braves Ad campaign!

It’s true! Anyway, the Yankees don’t have posters saying “We spend a lot of money!!!”

The Red Sox don’t have posters saying “We have a lot of people come to our games!!”

The Angels don’t have posters saying “We live in a big city!!!”

The Pirates don’t have posters saying “We suck!!”

The rumors were Prado for Seth Smith and Prado/Jurrjens for Adam Jones. That’s not overvaluing, it’s trying not to wet your pants from laughing so hard.
