Pete Rose, says he never bet against his team. That May have been the one honest thing he said. He didn’t bet against them. Now he did bet for them at times. So if you are a bookie, and the manager bets for the team on this day and the next day would not place a bet and then the following day would place a bet, there is a definite trend there. Easy to see when to bet against the reds.

Jim-
We do have LF power. His name is Dan Uggla. In your mind, focus on Uggla in LF and Prado at 2B. Now, do we still need LF power? Prado provides average pop for a 2B, and Uggla provides great power for LFer. Power is not this team’s problem. Getting runners on ahead of boppers and team OBP is real issue.

I have a question, and I apologize if this has been answered before:

Let’s say a team’s 40 man is full. That team signs a player to a contract and that player has to be added to the 40 man. For that to happen, that team has to rid themselves of someone off that 40 man roster. How long after the contract is signed does a team have to remove someone so the new player can be added?

Bat–did he really sponsor Bobby’s B-R page?

That dude has some serious issues… _ Steve from OH

Yep, thats him. We had some fun here, when we first found it, figuring out what each page hit would cost and how we could drive them up if we teamed up and ran auto-refresh programs. Unfortunately it would only apply to a renewal fee.

Don’t they still do electroshock therapy? Perhaps you could use your contacts to fix him with some.

If everyone has a career year (which Chipper won’t) and Pastornicky plays like Tulowitzki then maybe they can complete for a wild card. _ DawgDad

Oh yeah, sure. If it takes around 110 wins to get one.

Good job by Carroll, interesting stuff from Chipper, hope he has a fine year. Hopw I am not asking for to much, I would like to see .300 BA 20 HR 80 RBI. But whatever we get from him, he is the greatest BRAVE position player all time. It was and is a pleasure watching him play/

Division Titles! (January 10th, 2012 9:12 am): “Most disappointing is that Chipper had so few clutch playoff performances duringnthe 15 year run. As I talk to people in Atlanta, this is the resounding frustration I get when bringing up Chipper in the conversation. His numbers may be worthy of the HOF but his playoff performance would land him squarely in the land of mediocrity.”

Chipper Jones has been the greatest Braves player to have played all his career in Atlanta. It’s that simple. How could you criticize him while he is still producing regardless of what his salary is? In all these years and all those playoff games he was there in the post season because he played so well during the regular season.

During the years the Braves made the playoff – 1995 to 2005, Chipper had this line BA .303/ OBP.401 / SLG .538/ OPS .939/ OPS+ 140. DO YOU THINK HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A MAJOR REASON THEY MADE THE PLAYOFFS 11 STRAIGHT YEARS?

And during the Post Season his line was BA .288/ OBP.411./ SLG.459/ OPS.871 in 92 games and 412 AB’s.

This is when the best teams are trying to play their best baseball and are pitching their best pitchers and you describe his playoff baseball as ” his playoff performance would land him squarely in the land of mediocrity.”

Murph (January 10th, 2012 11:07 am): “I hope Chipper goes out, has a monster year, and then hangs ‘em up on a good note.”

If you’re “hoping”, why not hope that “Chipper goes out, has a monster year,” comes back in 2013 and “goes out, has another monster year,” and only THEN “hangs ‘em up on a good note.”

Your “hopes” betray your true underlying bias.

“Dude…seriously…it’s enough, already. He was born not fast…he’s been a catcher since he started high-school (or thereabouts)…he’s not a fast person, I’m sorry. ” McFann

I’m a little preturbed with you too. Despite all your protestations there is something McCann can do about his speed. He is a professional athlete and is being paid $13M this year and I think he owes it to the team to be the best player he can be.

If that means working with a coach to improve his speed he should. After he retires he has about 50 years to do nothing and spend the $100,000,000+ he will make in his career. But in the mean time he could and should try to improve upon his “one of the worst speed” in MLB baseball. If he is the worst then he also has the most room for improvement and everybody can get better with practice. World class sprinters work harder than you would believe to improve a tenth of a second. Brian McCann with a coach and hard work during the off season could improve his time home to second maybe up to a second. That would mean 10 extra doubles in 2012.

And your constant challenge that he can’t do any better is, well, just wrong. Do weightlifters get better with training? Do students get better grades with lots of studying? Do drivers get better by driving? Do cooks who go to school prepare better meals?

I’ll never understand why you don’t want your favorite player to be his best? Would you really encourage him to stop training with a speed coach during the offseason? Or is it some silly infatuation that all things McCann does are the way the world should revolve?

I know he has great speed and defense but I don’t know how much offense is projected out of him going forward. Is Bourjos that highly regarded around the league that the Angels would ask for more than JJ?

Well, he does a lot of the things that Bourn does in center field, and he is controlled for another 5 seasons. Why would the Angels, a team that has four frontline starters like Jered Weaver, Dan Haren, Ervin Santana and C.J. Wilson, trade a young, controllable, great defensive outfielder like Bourjos for Jurrjens, so that he could be their 5th starter? That’s not the best way to manage a roster, imo. Not to mention, they have a bunch of older players and guys coming off of injuries. Bourjos and Trout are the two guys they are excited about and are expected to patrol the outfield for them for many years.

So because people haven’t heard of him means that they should trade him to us? Plenty of outfielders? Yeah, Vernon Wells and Torri Hunter equals plenty of outfielders….

I get that the Angels have somewhat of a logjam, but Morales is a huge question mark, and there is really no reason for the Angels to worry about their 5th starter spot when they have 4 #1 starters(or close to it) lined up.
