>>>>>>>>>>>>>>……..

Not I.

Our 2010 Braves led the N.L. in walks with 634 which also greatly contributed to their .339 OBP. Which by the way, also led the N.L.

Coincidently, we finished 8th in walks and 14th in OBP during 2011. Terry Pendleton should have kept his job, period. Hiring and firing his replacement was a HUGE MISTAKE on the part of Frank Wren and the Braves front office.

What’s hilarious is that you keep hearing the remaining teams have great defenses…..except the Pats. Pats didn’t play anyone this year, and I like their matchup vs. the Ravens. I’m going with a Patriots/Niners Super Bowl.

Don’t much care if he hit 26 “dingers,” when his 482 other plate appearances produced a total of 90 hits, 27 walks and 2 stolen bases? The man had a .289 OBP! And a .303 OBP in 2009. And he’s hit under .250 over the past three years.

beekay

January 15th, 2012
9:28 pm

Bat and NC Gary….soriano hit twice as many HR’s as Cody Ross had a higher batting average, and there are people that want to give him 2 years 10 mill to play for us. I think if the cubs gave 40 million to get rid of him, I would take it unless you think we can make a big trade with Prado and JJ to get someone else.

beekay

January 15th, 2012

DOB , Ross had slightly better OBP and a worse slugging % and worse OPS and yet many on this blog want him. He would most likely be more expensive as well.

Efrim

Soriano is cooked, and has been for a while. He was always a flawed player. I wouldn’t want him stealing plate appearances from Martin Prado. Braves are pretty much set, however I really hope they get another outfielder for when Chipper needs rest and Prado plays third. I’d say it’s pretty important, but perhaps Wren feels he can fill the need during February.

Ross’ OBP was 36 points higher; I’d say that’s a little more than “slightly better.” And he can play serviceable-or-better defense at all three OF spots. Soriano plays one OF position — LF — and not well.

Efrim

Yes, good point. And I’m pretty surprised they haven’t filled that need….unless they are willing to go with some sort of a Hinske/Diaz/Constanza platoon. Why don’t we give Joe Mather a call and see what he’s doing……..

Soriano has not been a good player in what 5-7 yrs ago? No one wants him. The Cubs can’t get rid of him. Enough said about that. Ross, IMO do not see him accepting a 1 yr deal until it gets real close to ST

Efrim

Despite the Braves being dormant this winter, it was a pretty interesting offseason. Pujols/Wilson going to the Angels, the Marlins craziness, and four young, controllable starters being dealt for big prospect packages(Cahill to D-Backs, Latos to Reds, Gonzalez to Nats, and Pineda to Yankees). Fielder still hasn’t signed yet, but I do think that happens at some point within the next 7-10 days(just a guess based on his visiting teams this weekend).

Efrim

January 15th, 2012
9:49 pm

Next offseason will be filled with plenty of Braves transactions if I had to guess, trades and a couple minor free agent signings. Heck, our entire bench is set to become free agents – so I think there will be quite a bit more player movement. Unless Wren decides to go with they 8-man starting rotation…. :)

While I do not watch football that closely, I have to admit that I hoped the Giants would lose. Not that I care so much. Just don’t want to hear people around here talking about them.
