I would settle for Rick Ankiel and Jeff Keppinger on my bench. Both are versatile, veteran and affordable. Ankiel: LF, CF, RF, pinch hit, pinch run, strong defender. Keppinger: 3B, SS, 2B, pinch hit, utility infielder.

“Our current LFer was 27, and I don’t care how many excuses you make for him, his line was .260 .302 .385 .687 – keylargo”
Feel better? Just pick whatever stats you can find to help your useless argument. Pre injury Prado had a .761OPS. His 3 previous seasons were .809, .822, .838. But yeah he sucks.

No More Stankiel!
He Only hit One Meaningful homer for us in 2010 (A Splash Hit In SF) …But Yet He Killed us in A Nats Uniform, especially at their park last year, Go Figure…?
You’re welcome, cab.
January 11th, 20128:59 pm

That’ll work Sopheeee
January 11th, 20129:00 pm
Prado’s an overachiever and the hardest working athlete on the team. Which is really all anybody needs to truly understand why he is so valuable.
January 11th, 20129:03 pm
Rick Ankiel was misused by Bobby Cox. Which is why I don’t pay any attention to the numbers. His value lies in versatility, defense and leadership. I’ll take the guy on my team any day.
January 11th, 20129:06 pm
This Maybe one of the First Times I have ever disagreed with you… but Stankiel was a Serious Liability at the plate when he was with us in 2010, hence the reason he hit 8th when the team started to get injured in September…To The Extent that Joe Mather may’ve out-hit him in 2011 and thats saying something!
January 11th, 20129:10 pm
I don’t Think Martini is an Overachiever, since we haven’t seen him play 150 games healthy…
A healthy Martini gets better with age as he learns the league and fills his frame …The Dude is capable of doing 20-70 in a 150 games season…Problem is he has had tons of nagging injuries the last 2 years…That wouldn’t've been an issue in the PED era…
ankiel as a 4th OF who can cover all the OF positions and play LF when Prado is at 3B is not a bad option. Not exciting by any means but not a bad option either
January 11th, 20129:11 pm
I agree. I would definitely take another look at Ankiel. Guy isn’t a huge bat but carries some pop. But he can play all over the OF and is a plus defender.
The A Bomb - OUTCHOKED ® TWICE!
January 11th, 20129:12 pm
Thing about Jones is…..
Yeah he has lost a lot.
Yeah he makes way too much money.
But he still throws fear into opposing managers. Just ask The Lizard Baker and others.
Guy deserves a farewell tour. Let him play his 90-120 games and move on. Hopefully we can get .270/15/60 out of him. We’ll see how our “manager” handles him in the lineup.
January 11th, 20129:17 pm
Hey, Ankiel only started 32 games in a Braves uniform in 2012. Ankiel didn’t join the team until August. Which again, is why I didn’t put any stock in his numbers.
January 11th, 20129:18 pm

January 11th, 20129:34 pm
Given last year’s colosal collapase, I am amazed the the Braves are content with putting the exact same team on the field that they did last year. Way to fire up the fan base!
It does sound like the Yankees are going to bail out Boras and Edwin Jackson. Not sure who else will do it. Three year deal makes the most sense. No way he gets five years, 75 million like he was seeking earlier in the winter. Sabathia, Jackson, Nova, Burnett, Hughes, Garcia….

BRB, Gotta Cook Dinner!
January 11th, 20129:44 pm
Heard Mark Trumbo on MLB radio tonight. Sounds like a good kid. Had awesome rookie year. Angels want him to move to 3B next year. Has no experience there.
Would a package of Prado, JJ and Srull get him plus maybe Izturis?
January 11th, 20129:50 pm
The way it’s going plenty of teams, including Braves, might just have lots of FA to still choose from when ST starts. Maybe THEN that guy will be within ATL price range.

He is a 1st baseman,Soscia thinks he can play 3rd why on earth would they trade him???? And where would he play if the Braves traded for him???
January 11th, 20129:54 pm
I hate teams waiting until ST to acquire someone. They become that much further behind. If its early on then they still have time but hte closer to Opening Day the more of the season wasted getting those guys caught up.
January 11th, 20129:55 pm
I just watch MoneyBall. Great Movie, highly recommend it for all Baseball fans.
cant wait til baseball is back.
January 11th, 20129:57 pm
Trumbo does have experience in LF. About as much as Prado did before last year. But they have no interest in moving him.
January 11th, 20129:58 pm
I heard Manny wants to come back.. Hey WHY NOT… HAHAHA

I Seriously Gotta Stop Cooking at 10pm when I have to get up at 555AM

Mather had a hot 3 weeks and outhit much of the major leagues. The rest of his Braves time, as they say, is history
This Maybe one of the First Times I have ever disagreed with you coach @Tomahawkin
so now we know, coach isn’t the only maroon aboard, how embarrassing to have to admit
There once was a player named Larry
On whose back his team he would carry.
But when he turned forty
His knees were *corrody
Past 2012 he would no longer tarry.
*poetic license rhyming
Chipper: you stay home and whittle something for Bobby
January 11th, 201210:13 pm
The Braves franchise player named Chip
Told CR “getting old is definitely not hip.
But I’ll do my part
Till they carry me off in the cart.”
So the number 10 kool-aid I’ll continue to sip.
good idea, let’s pay him 13 million dollars or so to stay home. I’m sure that would make the team better.
January 11th, 201210:16 pm
Tomahawkin (The Godfather), January 11th, 2012, 8:43 pm … “The David Justice/Grissom Trade for Alan Embree and Kenny Lofton happened 6 months later (Tear) Fair Enough?”
Add in that this trade led to the divorce from Halle Berry and dead chickens were found in the locker room and you might have a viable curse.
January 11th, 201210:17 pm
nolie, funny posts on pitchers and catchers, really got me chuckling
January 11th, 201210:19 pm
losing Halle would be a curse alright
By the way, has anyone thought about a weakened Braves infield defense? Chipper’s lateral movement, a rookie SS and Dan Uggla at second should give heartburn to a groundball pitchers.
January 11th, 201210:20 pm
FA still remaining that may be some benefit: JD Drew, Cody Ross, Ryan Ludwick, Rick Ankiel, Willie Harris, Juan Pierre, Johnny Damon, Ryan Spillborghs, maybe Raul Ibanez.
Choppinmama with the J. Gordon Coogler impression.
January 11th, 201210:24 pm
Ankiel again? why? he was as bad last season as he was in Atlanta.
no thank you please
“The Cats on 680AMThe Fan Sports Radio Ripp The Hell Out of the Spirit Group Left and Right but won’t say a thing about Cheap Liberty Media…WTH???”
Good point Tomahawkin.
About the only thing most of those Cats or can I say Bubbas on 680 the Fan really care about is College Football and recrutin’ . And try to talk about anything out of the SEC or deep South and they do not want to hear it.
For a city as diverse as ours, and with fans from different cities, we have the WORST Sports Talk in the country. The station I like is 620 in Tampa and Nashville area has better Sports Talk then us.
They glance on the Hawks, and outside of Buck and Kincaide, they really do not care about the Braves.
And all we get on 680 is Braves apologists. The worst one is Leo Mazzone, and I am disappointed in him as a so called baseball analyst. He and Lemke both come across as disingenuine and apologetic.
I like College Football, did not grow up in a College Football hotbed, (prefer the NFL) but dm, there are other sports out there. Atlanta makes too much out of Colege Football.
January 11th, 201210:25 pm
We do not need Ankiel or the underachieving Jane D. Drew.
January 11th, 201210:29 pm
Drew certainly was not an underachiever in Atlanta. He had a great year.
January 11th, 201210:30 pm
Jim, concerning your 6:24 post, if that’s all you got then you should really just not comment as it clearly shows just how badly you misunderstand well, most everything…. By Chipper’s own admission, I think everyone is well aware that the MVP days of Chipper Jones have passed. However Chipper clearly has a presence on this team. Obviously, if he’s healthy and playing he’s certainly capable of being dangerous in our lineup. Even if he’s not playing, he has the respect of his teammates and plays a vital role as a teammate. I bet if you ask his teammates, when he speaks, they listen with respect. Instead of making ignorant comments that really make you look bad, perhaps you should appreciate the fact that he is still with this organization and doing the things he still does. Personally, even with him being 40, I’m not particularly looking forward to the day he steps aside. Regardless of how much payroll this frees up for the Braves, that will be a sad day for anyone that gets it and truly understands.
Damn! I’m Full As a Rat! Time for bed! C Ya in The AM
January 11th, 201210:33 pm
Garla, I agree. Hope Chipper is here for many more moon’s as a coach are mgr.
abwright – I’d just spend 60 mins. reading CR’s new blog and that’s all I could come up with……….other than the observation that there sure are a lot of crabby people out there in the blogosphere!!
January 11th, 201210:36 pm
Chuck And Chernoff is the Best Show Regarding Braves Talk, especially during the Summer when they Do the Braves Pre-Game Show Now with Chuck Dowdle…Matt Chernoff will Rip The Team but he hasn’t really ripped our Cheap Owners….
I love Leo Mazzone but He is The Biggest Kool-Aid Drinker out there, but I’m Sure he’s Trying to keep his professional objectivity intact…
Sandra Golden Rules! She Needs To Join The Chuck and Chernoff Show…
January 11th, 201210:38 pm
I see the Braves blog is mostly in hibernation.
And Hell No To JD Screw!
The Dude Disappeared in The Playoffs the One Year he was here and that was in a “Contract Year!” Represented by Scott Bor-a$s-hole

Ah, but you forget, they all have FREDDIE ‘Bail-out’ FREEMAN to steady their misques.
January 11th, 201210:46 pm
LAA do not have a 3B. Prado would fill that role for them. Trumbo has played both RF and LF.
January 11th, 201210:47 pm
Freddie might be the slowest 21 year old in the history of baseball. good thing he can catch good
January 11th, 201210:48 pm
Trumbo is frenchie jr
January 11th, 201210:51 pm
Freddie might be the slowest 21 year old in the history of baseball.
Not to mention basketball and sumo wrestling…
January 11th, 201210:53 pm
Trumbo has power, so far that is about it.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy of homers

Chipper Jones, Atlanta Braves Hall of Famer-Legend…
Chipper we love you… Thank you for everything you’ve done for the Braves over that last 2 decades. We’ll root for you down to the last pitch you are on the field and then cheer for you when you enter the Hall Of Fame. Enjoy every minute of it..
January 11th, 201210:56 pm
Nice to see some Chipper love
January 11th, 201211:01 pm
The Angels have Callaspo as their 3rd baseman and Izturis is currently the back up. Absolutely no need for Prado for them.
1995 was 16 years ago
January 11th, 201211:05 pm
I’m just flabbergasted that the Braves are handing Pastorinicky the starting shortstop job. It has Jordan Schafer in 2009 written all over it – a good, but not great, prospect being rushed into a starting role because Wren doesn’t want to spend money on a proven player at that position.
And to make matters worse, the Braves have nothing behind Pastor at the moment. Brandon Hicks is not a major league-quality player. If Pastor struggles mightily, the Braves are going to have to go a full season with retreads like Jack Wilson and Julio Lugo manning shortstop.
January 11th, 201211:06 pm
Nope, some guy in 2005.
January 11th, 201211:14 pm
kl just doesn’t let up on mac
January 11th, 201211:15 pm
1995 was 16 years ago (or 17 but whose counting)
While I don’t think (at least I hope) Pastornicky is the starting SS in 2012, the Braves do have a better prospect than him about 2 years away + or – a year. Here’s the link.
January 11th, 201211:16 pm
give up Tiger, you’re surrounded.
January 11th, 201211:17 pm
nor on Prado either, but we all have our likes and dislikes
January 11th, 201211:18 pm
I’ll be ok…how’s life in the islands
January 11th, 201211:20 pm
Tiger, we had a rainy, blustery day down here. The wind was blowing about 25 mph at times. Plus we have a cold front coming in for the weekend. Going to be 70 or so.
January 11th, 201211:22 pm
Freeman has Sid Bream’s dead cheetah speed.
January 11th, 201211:26 pm
well its gonna cool off here as well…getting down in the 20’s at night for a few days but its mid january so winters nearly over
January 11th, 201211:29 pm
I don’t know about winter being over Tiger. I remember some very tough weather in N GA on in March and April. We generally thought Easter was a pretty good time.
but its mid january so winters nearly over @tiger
now there is a glass half full statement if I ever heard one
January 11th, 201211:30 pm
Easter is April the 8 this year.
January 11th, 201211:31 pm
Think winter is over here…
January 11th, 201211:32 pm
ZWacky – I think maybe Tiger has a small sample size on N GA winters.
January 11th, 201211:36 pm
Frank is waiting on that right deal for that emergency backup SS. I really believe he’s waiting on the absolute cheapest guy that might come along. If that guy don’t come before or during ST than he knows he has Hicks down in AAA. However, I think he’ll find a glove man like a Jack Wilson he can scrape up.
I’m not complaining here either. This is probably all true.
mid sept-mid nov & mid feb-mid march are my favorite flying times of the year around here…
January 11th, 201211:38 pm
March winds bring April showers and May flowers
January 11th, 201211:39 pm
kl – after my time in cleveland there are only about 10-15 winter days a year in GA surrounding by chilly fall weather. Starting feb avg’s here are ~60/32 which is probably my favorite weather
January 11th, 201211:44 pm
Tiger – somebody posted an article about a scout and he talked extensively about traveling on the airlines. He stated he always took the earliest flight out and then listed about 10 reasons as to why it was his preference. I was really surprised he didn’t list that early in the morning is by far the best time of day to fly as far as smooth rides and good weather.
January 11th, 201211:45 pm
I couldn’t live in Cleveland or Chicago. Weather off the Great Lakes is brutal.
January 11th, 201211:47 pm
gimme a 35 degree morning and my 172 will jump off the ground and streak skyward at a staggering 600-700 FPM LOL
January 11th, 201211:50 pm
as I think of places for my next move weather is a primary consideration…I wouldn’t mind spending some time in Lew/Tom’s territory but I’m not sure the other 1/2 could handle the winters (and not sure I want to)
Did you get my message about your next airplane?
You can always come out here
January 11th, 201211:52 pm
kl – yeah….I’m going to work on my instrument rating first so I’ve got a couple years before I’ll be looking for a new airplane. A 231 is twice the cost of the M20F/G so that might have to be my next next airplane
January 11th, 201211:53 pm
between nala & nolie not sure there is enough room for an extended stay for me
January 11th, 201211:55 pm
nolie is not here. You might have to share space with Nala, though. She likes to sleep at the foot of the bed under the covers. She does not like feet though, so try not to kick her or you may lose a toe…
January 11th, 201211:58 pm
man I really want to comment here…trying to rise above it
January 11th, 201211:59 pm

I try to be a grown up and it kills the blog
January 12th, 201212:11 am
Sorry – I missed that DOB. I usually miss some time after the season, but I’ll read it and catch up on his progress. I’m really concerned that Pastornicky will be a big dropoff from AGon. Where do you think Simmons starts 2012?
January 12th, 201212:16 am
If that’s what you want
January 12th, 201212:18 am
2013 will be the year. 2012 is a mulligan waiting to happen. Nothing wrong with that. Don’t force a bad trade or try to make something happen with marginally better players.
The Braves will be in the mix but only for a WC and I think it will be a tougher WC road in 2012.
Again missing the post season two years in the row on their way to have 20-30mm to spend and a better idea of which arms to trade may be a blessing in disguise.
