Bet if Murphy had retired in ‘89 or ‘90 then his chances at getting in the HOF would be greater. His stats took a hit, average wise anyways, from ‘88-’93. But he was so good for so long I really don’t know how he shouldn’t eventually get in anyways.

As much as I love Murph as a person and a player, he isn’t going to get the kind of boost in votes to get him close.

It’s so hard to know exactly what FW is thinking concerning the Braves. He say in Nov that Pastornicky is not ready. Then when no moves are made he says he’s OK with him at SS.
To be honest, I really don’t think he’s showing his hand. I really think that he is saying what he wants other GM’s to hear. Which is exactly what he should be doing.
Now folks on here want to give him a hard time for changing the story, but he’s only protecting his position.
Kinda like giving BC a hard time in years past for not throwing his players under the bus.
So yes, he could be involved with the Angels on a deal for Izturis and maybe others. But unless DOB gets some indication from some other source, we probably won’t know until the deal is done.

Several other holdovers would be worthy additions to Cooperstown. Jack Morris, a postseason stalwart, belongs there. So do sluggers like Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire and Edgar Martinez, and players who could beat you on the bases, in the field and at the plate, like Jeff Bagwell, Dale Murphy and Tim Raines.

It is pretty confusing with the whole Pastornicky situation. First he says he isn’t ready and they’d like a veteran stop gap starter. Then changes and says he’s gonna be our starter and we wanna add a veteran backup at Shortstop. Then alot of time passes as we watch guy our options come off the board. Now it really seems like were going with a the rookie and some minor league shortstop for a backup.
Then were counting on bounce back seasons from Prado and Heyward. Also knowing Prado will be playing a good amount of 3rd base Wren seems content with Diaz/Constanza as our backups….Wren has been in love with Seth Smith most of the offseason and a CF prospect. But Prado was the name mentioned most to leave…..How would that improve our team? Also I guess we have a 0% chance of keeping Bourn too.

Tomahawkin gets bashed on here a lot, but at least he has the right idea of this place. It’s a silly little Braves blog. If somebody takes this thing seriously, or gets offended by what a faceless blogger writes then it really is sad. Much of it is probably a smoke screen. And are you really going to pass judgment before all the off season moves are made?
Any discussion about what we need or what we don’t need are purely academic at this point. We really won’t know how the roster is truly set up until
A) It’s near the end of spring training, after all players are evaluated……….. or
B) After we make a 2-3 deals and FW declares he is finished dealing.
Considering he has only made 1 trade and add a few lesser players, it’s really too early to decide anything.
But I am not puzzled by his comments on Pastornicky. He is saying what other folks need to hear.
