If Braves acquire Izturis, it would make me feel much better. Don’t know how that would effect last two bench jobs. One probably going to Sutton/Hicks, the other up for grabs through FA, inside options?

Ward: Uh…even if they reinstated Buck Weaver (which they won’t, he took money to throw the World Series), he will be 121 years old when the season starts, so I don’t think he would provide much help.

Izturis is a career 95 OPS+ hitter, better than most who have been available but not all that special, and I think almost 4 million is more than the Braves ,who have said for months that Tyler will start, would be willing to spend. I would not mind getting him, but would not trade Prado or a top 10 prospect for him.

Braves are not trading a top 10 prospect for a utility player like Izturis making close to 4 million. I can pretty much guarantee that.

I doubt they would acquire Izturis to move Prado. Izturis is INF only. Adding Izturis and moving Prado would open a hole in LF. I would imagine that Izturis would be a move strictly to upgrade SS. Would probably significantly reduce the chance of Cody Ross signing though.

Swaim claims to have been the one who broke the signings of Cuddyer, PooHoles, Furcal and Beltran and there is no way to find out if that is true or not
I am taking his tweet with a grain of Salt. I made a remark about Izturis being a player of interest months ago, but that does not make me a reliable source. If it happens it makes me a good guesser.

Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto has had preliminary discussions with the agents for second baseman Howie Kendrick and shortstop Erick Aybar about multiple-year deals that would prevent the infielders from becoming free agents after the 2012 season.
Kendrick, who hit .285 with 18 home runs, 30 doubles and 63 runs batted in last season, and the slick-fielding Aybar, who hit .279 with 10 homers, 33 doubles and 59 RBIs, are entering their final years of arbitration.

I don’t know how they measure OPS+ but as a SS Izturis is a career 104. Don’t know if that is detemined based off position but he has a good OBP and a SS that OPS over .700 is hard to find.

Izturis would be exactly the player that the Braves would go for. Wren must have something up his sleeve as the SS is an area of need and we have watched SS after SS go off the board. I am sure he knows the expected cost to the Braves of acquiring Izturis, Nunez, Bartlett, etc., from their respective teams.

3.8 mil for Izturis is a great deal. Just think Clint Barmes got over 5 mil a season, SeaBass got 4 million, Mark Ellis got over 4 million, Dobbs 1.5 mil, Bloomquist 1.75, Punto 1.75, Santiago 2 mil.

Doesn’t matter anyways. Always going to be people over analyzing stinkin ball players like it’s a science. I think Wren would make a Vizcaino for Izturis swap and maybe have Angels take on some his salary. It’s not like we’re short on pen arms or SP. Yet, we have Pastornicky, who hardly anybody has even seen play and it isn’t even a given he’s MLB ready. Said not to be a good defensive SS.

The Braves would want Izturis – he fills a need and won’t cost a top prospect. If the Braves keep Hoover it should make Varvaro expendable (though I still like seeing Varvaro and Martinez in our bullpen).
