the truth sounds like Lou Vales ,DS1. he always uses that schtick about user names on a blog.
I don’t think so. LV would never use a 10 word sentence when he could say the same thing with a 30.
January 7th, 20128:40 pm
If Braves acquire Izturis, it would make me feel much better. Don’t know how that would effect last two bench jobs. One probably going to Sutton/Hicks, the other up for grabs through FA, inside options?
January 7th, 20128:41 pm
Ward: Uh…even if they reinstated Buck Weaver (which they won’t, he took money to throw the World Series), he will be 121 years old when the season starts, so I don’t think he would provide much help.
January 7th, 20128:42 pm
Izturis is a career 95 OPS+ hitter, better than most who have been available but not all that special, and I think almost 4 million is more than the Braves ,who have said for months that Tyler will start, would be willing to spend. I would not mind getting him, but would not trade Prado or a top 10 prospect for him.
January 7th, 20128:47 pm
I suppose they would also be in better position to trade Prado if they acquired Izturis….
January 7th, 20128:48 pm
Braves are not trading a top 10 prospect for a utility player like Izturis making close to 4 million. I can pretty much guarantee that.
January 7th, 20128:50 pm
I doubt they would acquire Izturis to move Prado. Izturis is INF only. Adding Izturis and moving Prado would open a hole in LF. I would imagine that Izturis would be a move strictly to upgrade SS. Would probably significantly reduce the chance of Cody Ross signing though.
I do not think that either Prado or Jurrjens will be traded.

Some Angels news…..just not the one we really want to hear though.
Scott Swaim tweeted this over 5 hours ago
#Braves have interest in Maicer Izturis
Swaim claims to have been the one who broke the signings of Cuddyer, PooHoles, Furcal and Beltran and there is no way to find out if that is true or not
I am taking his tweet with a grain of Salt. I made a remark about Izturis being a player of interest months ago, but that does not make me a reliable source. If it happens it makes me a good guesser.
January 7th, 20128:53 pm
Really doesn’t matter who he/she is…………..LV or whomever.
January 7th, 20128:54 pm
Be interested to see what Kendrick gets. Prado is a better hitter and of similar age, and I’d like to extend him provided he has a solid year in 2012.
January 7th, 20128:55 pm
So i guess Aybar is next
Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto has had preliminary discussions with the agents for second baseman Howie Kendrick and shortstop Erick Aybar about multiple-year deals that would prevent the infielders from becoming free agents after the 2012 season.
Kendrick, who hit .285 with 18 home runs, 30 doubles and 63 runs batted in last season, and the slick-fielding Aybar, who hit .279 with 10 homers, 33 doubles and 59 RBIs, are entering their final years of arbitration.
January 7th, 20128:56 pm
I don’t know how they measure OPS+ but as a SS Izturis is a career 104. Don’t know if that is detemined based off position but he has a good OBP and a SS that OPS over .700 is hard to find.
January 7th, 20128:57 pm
Wait a second. This rumor came from THAT guy? Oh, give me a break. Bogus rumors, constantly. I wouldn’t put much of anything into that then.
January 7th, 20128:58 pm
Atta boy, Matthew, helluva game so far.
January 7th, 20129:01 pm
If you see anything from this twitter name: http://twitter.com/MLBInsideNews
Do. Not. Believe. It.
January 7th, 20129:07 pm
Wow, that’s a fumble.
January 7th, 20129:08 pm
yes Izturis is a bit above average as a hitter for a shortstop, but is not an impact player. I like him but wth Pastornicky coming up I would not give up a lot for him
January 7th, 20129:12 pm
I like him but wth Pastornicky coming up I would not give up a lot for him
I don’t think anyone is expecting the Braves to give up anything of significance for him.
January 7th, 20129:14 pm
It’s amazing how open the Saints receivers get.
January 7th, 20129:16 pm
I thought that I saw a few extravagant proposals Efrim. Perhaps not
January 7th, 20129:18 pm
Those rankings on Jones and Upton were a little scary I thought.
January 7th, 20129:24 pm
No top prospects, ZWacky. Utility infielder in his early 30’s with close to 4 million due to him in 2012….I don’t think the Angels can expect much, if he is even available at all.
January 7th, 20129:28 pm
Efrim, That is the question. Is he available.
January 7th, 20129:29 pm
Damn it. Saints get the ball to open the second half, too.
January 7th, 20129:32 pm
Ray, I don’t trust that guy on twitter at all. He just makes stuff up that he thinks might make some sense. Don’t believe him at all. It could still happen, but he is a phony twitter account.
January 7th, 20129:33 pm
Okay, better than a TD.
January 7th, 20129:35 pm
Efrim, I know. I think either one of us could come up with enough stuff that makes sense and throw it up against the wall and see what sticks. Could probably be more accurate as well.
January 7th, 20129:50 pm
A couple of Ga Tech guys shining tonight.
Saints are good.
January 7th, 20129:51 pm
They sure are on offense.
January 7th, 20129:54 pm
Lions need to answer back.
January 7th, 20129:57 pm
We will see NOW, if the Lions are ready for big boy football or if they are just a bit too young and a yr or two away.
January 7th, 201210:11 pm
Izturis would be exactly the player that the Braves would go for. Wren must have something up his sleeve as the SS is an area of need and we have watched SS after SS go off the board. I am sure he knows the expected cost to the Braves of acquiring Izturis, Nunez, Bartlett, etc., from their respective teams.
January 7th, 201210:16 pm
Wren must have something up his sleeve…
All speculation. Izturis would be a good addition, but who even knows if he is available.
3.8 mil for Izturis is a great deal. Just think Clint Barmes got over 5 mil a season, SeaBass got 4 million, Mark Ellis got over 4 million, Dobbs 1.5 mil, Bloomquist 1.75, Punto 1.75, Santiago 2 mil.
January 7th, 201210:17 pm
It will be interesting the comments from all of the ones that have been ripping Wren for not making a move so far. Will there be positive comments or will it be the lazy and lame comments of “about time.”
January 7th, 201210:18 pm
IF he makes this type of move.
January 7th, 201210:21 pm
If the Swain character doesn’t tweet the rumor…….
Just sayin. He isn’t a credible source.
January 7th, 201210:25 pm
How about a stop, Detroit.
January 7th, 201210:31 pm
Can you confirm any Braves interest in Izturis? I don’t trust that Swaim fellow …. thanks.
January 7th, 201210:35 pm
Oh come on
January 7th, 201210:38 pm
Back for a few. I’ve checked all the cites, and found nothing going on with the Angels, and this could be a false rumor, but I’m sure DOB wouldn’t report anything false.
January 7th, 201210:39 pm
Swaim, really? Probably a made up name, some guy clowning
January 7th, 201210:40 pm
Hey Lions, the game is TACKLE Football, not 2 hand touch.
January 7th, 201210:41 pm
Izturis would be exactly the player that the Braves would go for…brian
only if he got him cheap and the Angels paid part on the 3.8 mil, cause the Braves are very unlikely to pay that
January 7th, 201210:43 pm
All right, need a quick score here.
Swaim is notorious for throwing garbage up against the wall.
January 7th, 201210:46 pm
All DOB did was say #Braves GM Wren has a way of trading for guys who weren’t among most-speculated-about targets. INF Maicer Izturis would fit that bill.
Don’t know if he was thinking out loud or responding to a question
January 7th, 201210:47 pm
Can’t tackle, missed picks. Not gonna beat the Saints like that.
January 7th, 201210:48 pm
Patio Daddio- Agree with your post there.
January 7th, 201210:49 pm
Just take the night off, Detroit safetys
January 7th, 201210:50 pm
59 points. I think the over is a lock.
January 7th, 201210:53 pm
Can anyone stop The Saints or The Packers?
Bat M with a new puter is going for #1
January 7th, 201210:55 pm
Vizcaino for Izturis makes sense for both sides. They have SP and plenty of offense now with Pujols. They’ve been said to be looking for late inning RP.
January 7th, 201210:57 pm
Vizcaino for Izturis makes sense for both sides.
Not to me TBrian. Plus the salary would be an issue.
January 7th, 201211:00 pm
Ha, I’ll be a motor mouth for a while.
Vizcaino, our #2 prospect, is way too much to offer for Izturis.
January 7th, 201211:02 pm
Vizcaino for Izturis makes sense for both sides…CTB
Really? uh nope
January 7th, 201211:04 pm
Vizcaino may be in the pen, but he still projects as a #2 starter.
January 7th, 201211:05 pm
The braves shouldn’t give up more than 2 prospects/relief pitchers and none of the prospects should be from Top 10. If they gave up gearrin and Martinez I’d be happy.
3 points from my call of over 75 points.
January 7th, 201211:07 pm
Now it’s Ball Game……………………………..
I hate the Saints.
January 7th, 201211:08 pm
Greenbay should take notes of this game……Saints are rolling……
Everybody hates the Saints
Doesn’t matter anyways. Always going to be people over analyzing stinkin ball players like it’s a science. I think Wren would make a Vizcaino for Izturis swap and maybe have Angels take on some his salary. It’s not like we’re short on pen arms or SP. Yet, we have Pastornicky, who hardly anybody has even seen play and it isn’t even a given he’s MLB ready. Said not to be a good defensive SS.
January 7th, 201211:09 pm
Even Drew Brees
I don’t hate the Saints. They are just flat out scary!
January 7th, 201211:10 pm
Don’t worry, Ward. Rodgers refuses to lose so you know what that means.
January 7th, 201211:11 pm
Everybody except Ward
January 7th, 201211:12 pm
If Brees continues huis marching? I don’t think Rogers will stop the Saints.
January 7th, 201211:13 pm
I do like the Who Dat beagle though -
Right now I don’t see anyone stoping The Saints from marching on.
January 7th, 201211:15 pm
Bat – you’d be a very pleasant diversion at #1. Make it smoke!!
January 7th, 201211:18 pm
Arodys Vizcaino, Martin Prado, and Zeke Spruill for Peter Bourjos, and Macier Izturis.
I would do that.
January 7th, 201211:19 pm
I still think the Packers are better
January 7th, 201211:20 pm
Even if by some miracle of football activity the Giants win tomorrow, I will feel very badly that the Falcons do not advance…
January 7th, 201211:22 pm
One of those North Ga. thugs is making CBT write those crazy trade proposals.
I would too, Tomas.
The Braves would want Izturis – he fills a need and won’t cost a top prospect. If the Braves keep Hoover it should make Varvaro expendable (though I still like seeing Varvaro and Martinez in our bullpen).
Good news about Moylen. I hope he makes it back regardless of who he pitches for. I hope that there is some gentleman’s agreement where the Braves will give Moylan a chance to show them he has recovered and Pete will give the Braves first shot if he is
January 7th, 201211:23 pm
Bat, hush. I’m not going through that north Ga garbage again.
January 7th, 201211:25 pm
Maybe the Braves can trade for Brooks Conrad and center a trade for Izturis around him…
January 7th, 201211:27 pm
too bad we can’t get the Angels to go for Vizcaino and ________ for Trout. They would get their young power arm for the bullpen with a huge ceiling as a future starter. The Braves get their CF
Repeat after me…..Wren,will not trade any of the propsects.Wren has stuck to his guns on that.
January 7th, 201211:28 pm
Well, it’s all been good, and talk tomorrow. Peace my friends……….
An inmate at a correctional facility
January 7th, 201211:29 pm
..Newt Gingrich said the following today: “And so I’m prepared, if the NAACP invites me, I’ll go to their convention to talk about why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps.”
He followed that up by saying….”I’m also prepared, if the Braves fans want, I’ll go to them and talk about why Braves fans should demand real ball players that produce…and not be satisfied with injury prone, false messiah-types (Heyward), broken down/way past their prime players.
January 7th, 201211:31 pm
Braves would get salar relief and could sign Mike Gonzalez, improve an already strong bullpen.
Then trade Jair Jurrjens for Seth Smith, and Charlie Blackmon.
Basically this is what will go:
January 7th, 201211:32 pm
What are they serving in the water in Georgia?
Third graders at a Gwinnett County school were asked the following on a math quiz: “Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?”
“If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?”
Perhaps the following should have been asked on the math quiz. “If a baseball team has a 10 1/2 game lead with 22 games left….how much would they have to suck in order to miss the play-offs”
January 7th, 201211:35 pm
I am pleased to see that Alec Baldwin has returned to the world of Twitter…maybe he’ll play Words With Friends with cab or McFann…
Dentz just can’t stay away..
January 7th, 201211:37 pm
Wren, will not trade any of the propsects.Wren has stuck to his guns on that.
January 7th, 201211:42 pm
Basically this is what will go:
- Arodys Vizcaino
- Martin Prado
- Jair Jurrjens
- Zeke Spruill
Players that will come back:
- Peter Bourjos
- Macier Iztiris
- Seth Smith
- Charlie Blackmon
- Mike Gonzalez
Smith and Bourjos can platoon in LF. And when Bourn leaves in 2013(yes that’s a fact if I know this team and Boras) Blackmon and Bourjos can platoon in CF and leadoff. Mike Gonzalez will add a 3rd lefty to the pen, and another hard thrower.
