Aside from the guys who won’t be eligible in 2012(Teheran, Vizcaino, Delgado, Pastornicky), here the list of other prospects to keep an eye out for in the Braves system:

ARK it would but would DET make that trade. I like the thinking and if it gets us the money to sign Yoennis so much the better.
2012 would then be a semi-skip year where post season was a maybe but 2013 all guns could be blazing. If Yoennis can handle ML pitch esp breaking stuff then 2012 could be very good as well.
I just wonder if Wren and the FO are going avoid Yoennis like the plague due to the Yankees and others circling him.
From what I have read the Sox are passing, the Yankees are iffy and it is the Blue Jays, Pirates and possibly the Marlins who are planning to make an offer.

2 a.m. or so last night, ready for bed, but channel-surf and land on Pulp Fiction on cable, Christopher Walken “gold watch” monologue. Hour later, “Zed’s dead, baby. Zed’s dead.” That movie never gets old. Couldn’t turn it off, even though I have it on DVD….

Ozzie, I’m not sure I’d say 2012 would be a skip year. I think our team would be stronger with that trade and signings. We’d be much deeper on the bench and in the minors. The pitching would be the only place we may take a hit but we’re pretty deep there to avoid much of a let down.

Top 5 favorite movie for me. Braveheart, Shawshenk Redemption in there too. Love ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ as well. Although pretty sure that’s just because of the first 30-40 minutes.

the Braves do need to be more aggressive at some points in the draft. The last few drafts are too stocked with low ceiling, higher floor safer picks. We need some picks that are higher ceiling high school type picks. Spend money on the draft and player development. It is much cheaper to draft and develop your own players than sign expensive free agents to Powerball type contracts. Of course some will flame out but that is why you can never have too many prospects

I will Believe the Braves Scouts and Organization over anything that Keith Law has to say.
Why would the Braves scouts or player development people say bad things about their prospects? What do they have to gain upon using negative statements regarding their minor league talent? Of course everything they say of their prospects will be glowing, however it’s fun to read other sources of knowledge on the subject, who may not have a bias opinion on the matter.

Prado and JJ to Detroit could net us our future CF in Jackson. A top 100 mlb prospect and possible replacement when Chipper retires in Castellanos, plus 2 or 3 more good prospects. It would also remove somewhere around 12 million off our payroll. We could then sign Cespedes as our 4th outfielder and allowing him to learn the game with less stress since he wouldn’t have to play immediately. Then sign someone like Betemit and Tejada to serve as depth off the bench.

Wade Davis’s ERA vs. BOS/NYY/TOR — 4.57. Versus all other teams, in first 2-plus years in majors–4.08. His name has come up in trade talks.
Wonder if the Rays would be willing to trade in their division to a team like Toronto.

By all accounts Yoennis as a fantastic attitude, work ethic and no ego. He is putting everything he has into getting into the ML and doing well.
Kawa was already washed up and Yunel was a prima donna. Yoennis will make about what we paid McLouth per year. I suspect he will put up better numbers for 7mm or so per.

Efrim: It is much easier from Keith Law and other analyst”s to predict the top 100 prospects in baseball, but we all know that fail a lot of the time. Law proved to be a poor scout for the Blue Jays and was fired. I think most fans that keep up with prospects could go year to year being fairly accurate on picking the top 100 prospects in baseball. It is the scouts and personel people in the Braves Organization that have found the Beachy’s, Jurrjens, etc. that I trust WAY above Keith Law and any other of the internet and MLB channel analyst’s.
The Braves moved Terdoslavich unexpectedly to the AFL because they saw something in him(a very good swing) and wanted to see how he manage jumping up in competition aganst guys that had played at levels above him. He did quite well it looked like to me.
We will see how it plays out, but when have you seen any of the Law’s, Mayo’s Etc. call themselves out on all the predictions they got wrong?

So you are going to call Yunel out for being a prima donna, but have no problem with a player who has never played an inning in the majors, yet has already released 2 videos of over 30 minutes a piece touting how awesome he is, including one that has him pretending to save Ahmad Green from a raging river?

DOB – agreed on Pulp Fiction. I remember when I first saw that movie, it was the night before I drove out to college, blew me away. Still good movie despite the numerous other movies that came after trying to imitate it.
It’s weird, but I will sit and watch a movie on TV, even with commercials, despite having it on DVD, but its not like I will put the DVD in and watch it.

Our payroll is exactly in line with our attendance. When we spent more, attendance was on a downward trend for years. You folks are asking someone to be willing to lose money. It’s one thing to ask, but then to be all indignant when they don’t? There ain’t many Mark Cuban’s in the world. Most willing to lose money also want to help run the show. Look around; it doesn’t work.

WARNING – THIS IS NOT KNOCKING THE JOB FRANK WREN HAS DONE – I’m sorry, but it was Frank Wren’s decision to not have financial flexibility this winter. He made trades for Dan Uggla and Michael Bourn, gave Chipper an extension, signed Derek Lowe to a four year, 60 million dollar deal. That’s why we don’t have financial flexibility right now. Payroll has hovered around the low 90’s for quite some time. Wren is aware of this. We have payroll flexibility next year.

if I were Wren I would just stop talking to Colorado right now. They are not evidently going to budge on their OF prospect or pitching prospect to go with Smith, and Smith just really is not a big enough upgrade to make the trade anyway. I would focus on KC and Detroit to see if something can get done. If not, I do not make the trade at this time but still sign Cody Ross and Wilson Betemit

The problem is everyone was spoiled with Turner. He’s not your typical owner. Most owners see owning a team as only a financial vessel. The few that are fanatics tend to meddle more than they should. From what I’ve always read, it sounds like Ted was a perfect blend, a huge fan that visibly supported the team while letting the baseball people he hired handle the business of baseball.

BAS, No problem with you disagreeing. I went to their site and filled in a form for the email, so I can’t post it here verbatim.
Some of the points I made were:
-My disappointment with the lack of player transactions this off-season in light of the collapse and the marked improvements by teams within out division.
- The news that Pastornicky would be the starting SS after Wren publicly stated he wasn’t ready in early November.
-The reported shopping of two very good players who aren’t currently at their peak value for inferior ones with smaller salaries.
-I chided them for not providing a bit more financial support to the team when they make billions in profits and asked them to please sell the team to someone who cares about it because the fans deserve that.

Efrim there are some good sites out there and some really bad ones. The Internet has evolved to give us fans a voice to exchange baseball info. I remember when I played baseball before the Internet even we had to wait until Athlons, Mazeroskis, The Sporting News to name few came out every February at the bookstores to get our baseball fix, yes players kept up back then too.

What’s wrong with corporations? Companies like Exxon, Coca-Cola, Miscrosoft, Apple, WalMart each employ tens of thousands of workers who receive a regular paycheck, free (or mostly free) health insurance, and a 401k retirement plan with a company match.

Not to mentionif the Falcons make it to the Bowl then the Epic Choke! can be a little easier to swallow…but I think the Falcons are 1 and done…
