As tempted as Shanny might be with trading a TON to move up and select Andrew Luck, IMO it would be a mistake. Doing so wouldnt allow us to build a team around him going further with so many future draft choices gone. I’m a diehard fan and I’m used to the losing culture. I mean the last time they were great I was in diapers… But I’d like to see us get the QB we want where we draft and then trade back to stockpile more picks. Shanny is here on a 5 year deal to build the Redskins. While I expected us to win more than 5 games, Injuries killed us. But were going in right direction with the youth movement.

I would want to keep Beachy tho. I’d offer more than that too. If we did add McCutchen I believe that would force us to trade Prado. I’d ask for prospects only in return to help re-stock us after giving alot of McC. Then use the money saved from trading Prado to sign Wilson Betemit to be Chippers backup.
Delgado/Spruill/Bethancourt/Simmons/Perez (Example Offer) for Andrew McCutchen
then
Martin Prado for 2 good prospects
then
sign Wilson Betemit
then
sign McCutchen to a contract comparable to Justin Upton.
This scenario would make a bold statement and give us one of the best defensive Outfields in baseball. LF McCutchen CF Bourn RF Heyward Plus where adding a impact player for years to come.

Why does everyone want to trade our best catching prospect? McCann is at $13M this year and will be $15M or so on a long term contract if the Braves sign him after this option year when he will be a free agent. I’m not so sure I want a Ryan Howard like player with a Ryan Howard like contract bogging down the Braves in the future.

VaBravesFan Our defense at Shortstop is gonna be worse for sure.
that seems to be a sure thing, but it would be pretty likely even if gonzalez was coming back. alex gonzalez had the defensive season if his career in 2011. he will probably never repeat it. pastornicky just needs to offset it a little with his bat for it to be a wash or an improvement. gonzalez was really bad at the plate, almost comletly negating his defense.
im not seeing how removing almost all the dead weight that was left from the team makes it weaker. and it might still get better, too.

I’m not everyone and I do not think a team should depend sooooo much on this position (McCann) seems be their answer current answer to everything….catcher batting clean-up not a smart choice to me for any team..this day and time anyways….he (McCann) is out of the game itself at least every 4th to 5th game…position is too demanding an wears a player down…also ages a player like boozing and bar hopping…but I’m sure many will disagree…but McCann is not the future of this franchise …don’t care how many All – star games he has been in..only a little topping on the cake so to speak

DAP, see I don’t believe in that. AGon saved his pitchers’ ass with his play at SS. His offense was magnified mainly because of the guys who are supposed to be the offensive forces did not suppy as much as they should’ve. Fredi, for the most part, planted his butt at the bottom of the lineup and it being an unlucky year for the Braves, too many opportunities came up with him at the plate and he failed most times.
His glove will be missied, I think. Bet our groundall ace pitcher is already missing him.

DAP, AGon has always been a solid defender. I’d bet money he will be as good, or pretty close to as good at SS as last year in ‘12.

I would like to get a look at Pastornicky playing on major league surfaces that play truer and have better lighting than minor league fields. Also having that vacuum cleaner named Freeman may reduce the error totals that ended up being errors in the minors.
Alex Gonzalez made 12 errors or 2 per month. I can live with 18 or 3 per month, maybe even 24 or 4 per month because not all errors lead to scoring.
Gonzo at 2 errors per month and Pastor at 3 or 4 per month or less until we see how much he has improved over last season

I don’t think Cody Ross is a Brave this year. I’m with some on here who say that they probably would’ve signed him by now if they thought he’d be a good fit. I still think JJ goes for a young hitter like Austin Jackson.

“I’d say there is only one team with a better linebacking core than the Niners(Texans), and it’s really close.” Efrim
My Chiefs are going to be in that “conversation” next year if they find an adequte 2nd MLB to pair with Derrick Johnson. With Tamba Hali and Justin Houston on the outside, that’s 3/4 of a really solid if not fantastic 3-4 LB crew. Then when you add in Eric Berry coming back next year to pair with Kendrick Lewis, Brandon Carr and Brandon Flowers, the “back 7″ on that defense are pretty outstanding.
Just gotta find a way to find 3 new guys for the D-Line, because Dorsey and Tyson Jackson aren’t cutting it. LOL

Nolie, I’m also surprised at the ongoing confusion of some here over the shortstop position. Players such as Theriot or Cedeno are being considered for backup shortstop/utility role, not starting shortstop (and I get sense that Cedeno interest has been minimal). Pastornicky is penciled in as the starter and the Braves are just looking to add a competent backup so the kid isn’t thrown entirely into the fire without any proven veteran who can help and be at the ready to face a particular pitcher or just to give Pastornicky a day off, or play a while in case of injury.
Theriot isn’t much defensively, but at this point he’s probably the best guy left on free-agent market. He’s significantly better offensively than Cedeno, whose production is comparable to Gonzo’s — without as much power.

So my wife’s wallet was stolen yesterday in Kolkata. Usually, such a thing should just be a nuisance–cancelling credit cards, putting in a fraud alert with the credit bureaus, and being out some cash. Alas, her green card was in the wallet. Without it, she can’t come back to the country. And, of course, it was on the morning of the first day of a three-day holiday weekend. And the consulate in the city does not deal with/issue green cards. I might end up doing the solo thing for a bit more time.

Maybe for a complete body of work, but he has most definitely had his moments. Annie Hall, Manhattan and Hannah and her Sisters are all great work. uga-brave–I agree. I was a big fan, when younger but have been sorely disappointed with much of his overall work. Even in the heyday of his work, there was much that was derivative (his homage to Bergman in Interiors of to Fellini in Stardust Memories) or that was schlock (Husbands and Wives, perhaps). Out of his dozens of films, I think only a few stand out. But those few are quite good. I mean Tolstoy wrote some pretty crappy books–Resurrection or The Forged Coupon. But those couple of books–War and Peace or Anna Karenina–are really quite impressive. (Not to say that Allen is a Tolstoy but was thinking of Tolstoy because of the War and Peace reference and because I was reading Isaiah Berlin’s essay ‘The Hedgehog and the Fox’ on Tolstoy earlier.
