Ralph MacDonald, the Grammy-winning writer, producer and percussionist who worked with everyone from Luther Vandross to Amy Winehouse and composed the classics, “Where Is the Love” and “Just the Two of Us,” died Sunday morning in Stamford, Conn., after a long illness. He was 67.
Born in Harlem on March 15, 1944, MacDonald was a working musician as well as a writer and producer. Until health problems sidelined him a year and a half ago, he continued to tour regularly as a member of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band.
Sopheee–No. Had wanted to but could not get away this time. An old friend of ours is going with her in my stead. Think she is trying to take a huge amount of bed linen and towels for our flat there. Keep trying to point out that she can buy these in Rupees for quite cheap. (She can finally make use of the NRI account.)
Moe – Not sure if packing is as eventful for you and your wife as it is for my family whenever we’ve gone in the past. My mom went last month and is actually on her way back and packing both ways was exhausting for her.
Steve, No. I thought I would head up toward Tom O’Hawke or Lew and do some skiing but my parents decided to come up. So not sure that I’ll get in much travel.
Trey–Work is okay. Last week was good–had a lot of money coming in. But still trying to make lots of cuts. I think i am finally getting past the point of having to let staff go after lots of cuts this fall.
Sopheee–I think she is taking one whole suitcase just for gifts. Beyond her own, she is taking back gifts from a couple of her cousins who live nearby. Packing is a bit of a production.

Too bad you can’t go with her, Moe. You deserve some time to relax and enjoy yourself, especially if your job is still getting to you.
How is your job going, Moe?
