why didnt you do that for the numbers thru august 21st? looks like youre afraid to post ugly numbers from your boy.
Huh? I did post the numbers through August. One of us has a reading comprehension problem (not me) and is trying really hard to make the other angry (again, not me) about an issue that really affects neither in any way, shape, or form and one that, funny enough, one of us (me) really doesn’t care all that much about despite what the other (you) thinks.
I’m not going to go through all of baseball-reference dot com and find numbers for every player who hit a slump during the season. You can do that. Or you can not. No skin off my sack either way.
PTown – They are looking for someone who can play center, too and they have said they will not make deals for chronically injured players – which is exactly what Beltran is. Yes, he can hit – WHEN He’s actually playing – which hasn’t been al that much since 08.
After about a week Prado will be on DL, and then who is gonna play, starting line-up
1b Prado
2b Prado
ss Prado
3b Prado
c Prado
Lf Prado
CF Prado
RF Prado
p Prado.
Prado could no more start as SS than Lew or Chipper could guys….
But JB…this really doesnt need to be said….if ppl don’t understand that, they are far dumber than anticipated, and its a wonder they could figure out how to click the links to get here or turn on the computer, or even pay their internet bill.
There isn’t a single guy out there that is available that can make this team substantially better in 2012 AND give the team a legit chance to win the division which I am surprised hasn’t been mentioned BUT is desperately needed now w/ the new added Wild Card rule.
PTown – Well……………I’m 60 and my center of balance changed 100 pounds ago. Martin would definitely be better at short than I would – likely so would Chipper. And both could hit much better than I can.
Bet neither of them can paint as well as I do, though.

Party is at one of the local jumpy places… a warehouse full of inflatable slides and mazes and stuff. Chances of someone ending up bloody is 100%… just hope it’s not one of my kids.
I remember walking in and heading to the party room and about getting chop blocked by about 8 5-6 year olds running past me trying to get to the bouncy slide.
thats my point. you post the good numbers, and when the bad number got brought up, you wouldnt post them. you just posted a link to the website. yes, it IS you that has the reading comprehension problem.
i asked specifically for you to post numbers from Adam Jones from august 22 thru the end of the year. you responded with a link. “why didnt you do that with the number up til august 21st?” i asked. not that hard to follow.
since you wont do it, adam jones hit .180/.227/.315 from august 22nd till the end of the year. this is the player you are telling us is “heading in the right direction”.
if you dont care about it, stop touting adam jones, and ill top slamming him.
PTown – And I would be fine with keeping them both and going cheap in LF when Martin is at third.
I just don’t see this as a desperate situation -especially with the added WC tream – which last year, had it been around, would have been the Braves.
WE missed the playoffs by a singe game after an epic collapse – likely never to be repeated. We have essentially the same team with every expectation of Prado and Heyward improvingm their performances and Lowe gone. We have the deepest rotation in most of baseball and the best pen.
Major changes are only indicated because so many are so upset over the collapse.
i asked specifically for you to post numbers from Adam Jones from august
No you didn’t. You said “post the numbers. lets see em” as a follow up to my post in which I said “every player hits a slump at some point in the season”. Those quotes aren’t 100% accurate as I don’t care enough to hit the “9″ and go back and copy/paste, but they’re close enough.
So, I post about other players going into slumps, you post requesting stats, I decline as I’m not your monkey and would rather you look up stats on your own, and you follow that up stating that I’m ducking your question.
Whether you indeed have a reading comprehension problem or simply missed it due to human error, I hope that this explanation suffices as to why I did not post any stats in response to your demands.
That and I really, truly don’t care whether the Braves get Jones or not. He’s a player who came up yesterday who I responded well towards. Prior to yesterday I had not ever mentioned Adam Jones in a single blog post. Not once in my 2+ years or however long I’ve been on the blog. That’s probably why your attempts to rile me up about “my boy” are not having the desired effect.
Andre Ethier, would make more sense than any, however there is that left hand hitting, and 9 mill salary, so i figured I would squash that one before I left.
But do you wanting to be playing in the new Wild Card 1 game and done format?
Because with the team as currently constructed AND if we added only a Cedeno and Ross or Adam Jones, this team has little chance to take the division from Phily.
Alright, seems I need to educate some “fans” here. A majority of baseball players that make it to the MLB rosters as second basemen are converted shortstops. Martin Prado is a converted shortstop. He played shortstop in Venezuela. He moved around the diamond his first few years. He played every infield position outside of pitcher and catcher. He also played both corner outfield spots. Given his versatility, you can honestly sit there and tell me that he can’t play the position that he was playing when the Braves signed him? You obviously never played baseball if you can say he forgot how to play a position.
2, Joey 2 major league games at SS, and played pitifully i may add by one Martin Prado, that i why he cannot play the position, as well as the Braves brass says NO! that in itself should be sufficient!
Prado played shortstop 8 games in the minors – the last three being in 08. If he were a reasonable option to play shortstop, then the Braves would have played him there in the past and would consider him for that position now. They aren’t.
There is a big difference between being “able” to do it, and actually doing it well for a contending team
Well, in Joey’s defense, I haven’t forgotten how to play CF, either. If it weren’t for that running-catching-throwing thing, I’d probably be out there, today.
But WTF – If that logic actually held up, why don’t they move Uggla to short and put Martin at second? Or why didn’t they just keep Brooks Conrad to play short – hell, why not? He played second and third so he should be able to play short, shouldn’t he?
Joey, a legitimate shortstop is the move here, reasonably speaking, if the Braves believe in Pastornicky enough, then start him, if not then go get a proven vet , Ronny Cedeno, Robert Andino, etal…hell right now Wren may decide to go get Julio Lugo back, who knows, but I can tell you Prado will not be the shortstop, he cannot field the position, lack of range you know realistic standards that apply to the position. sort of like hiring a Chef, and asking him to run the fry vat at mickey dees….
Good job JoeBrave!! Yeah, nothing wrong with the comment “I thought every Venezualan kid played SS”. It’s funny, Prado never played a game in pro ball at first base, yet he handled the position very well in Atlanta. Must have been a random coincidence.
Apologies for the delayed answer… I had to step away from the blogage to do some work.
DAP, I can say Adam Jones would be better defensive LF than Martin Prado because I was blessed with eyes and after decades of watching baseball, I know the difference in a good OF’er and a good infielder learning to play the OF. Simply stated, I can say it for the same reason I can say that Selma Hayak is prettier than Rosanne Barr — the eye test.
Martin could probably learn to be a good defensive LF, but for now he is at best average. And, with likely no more than this season in LF, he will not be given the opportunity to develop into a good LF. He is so good in the infield, he will not be used in MLB as an OF for long enough to get the experience required to be a good LF.
I can also say that Martin is a better infielder than Adam Jones – reverse logic from above.
Mercy, God gave a brain and I hope eyes, so use them!
I just believe the Braves are a better team with Prado as a member than without. I like how everybody thinks Prado’s abilities are stuck at either second base or left field. I offered a suggestion. Now I have a bunch of “thumbs down” youtube watchers throwing up objections while not offering any solutions. This is boring me.
Prado never played a game in pro ball at first base, yet he handled the position very well in Atlanta
You should probably check your stats before posting comments like this. Martin has played 52 games at first base in the majors, all since 2008. Which is 50 more than he has played at short in the majors, none since 2008.
In my perfect scenario, Cespedes establishes residency in the DR, becomes a free agent, and the Yankees outbid the Marlins for him. The Yankees then trade Swisher to the Braves, who promptly sign him to a four year extension.
JoeBrave – I assume you were joking about trading Hudson…Of course, I’m SURE you know he cannot be traded…10/5 guy who would never agree to a trade after giving Braves a big hometown discount. He and his wife are involved bigtime in Atlanta.
Andino?!?!?! You want a lifetime .245 hitter with a career .965 fielding position to be your starting short stop???? Great way to pick a guy that is not an upgrade either in the field or at the plate over Gonzalez. Let’s see, let’s move Prado off the team. Let’s face it, he can’t play shortstop. We bring in light hitting stone hands Andino for shortstop. Whats your next move???
Now I have a bunch of “thumbs down” youtube watchers throwing up objections while not offering any solutions.
Maybe the misplaced condescension just got you off on the wrong foot, and generated that feeling of, “You know, maybe it would feel good to hammer this guy with a tire iron.”
Joe/Raleigh – Not to mention trading Huddy would be a bad move IMO. Love the guys work ethic, he’s a great pitcher, and loved in the clubhouse and throughout Atlanta. He’s on of my favorite Braves.
He played over 300 games there in the minors, thats a hell of a lot more than Prado.
Man, Adam Jones couldn’t be any more perfect for this team! C’mon Frank, he solves every problem under the sun… SS, 3B (2 games in the minors), LF, CF, HR…
joey m Andino?!?!?! You want a lifetime .245 hitter with a career .965 fielding position to be your starting short stop????
ok, so now we know that you dont know what we are talking about. any SS option we bring up is as a backup. Pastornicky will be our starting SS, more than likely.
Joey, that’s where you have me confused, I don’t want a damn thing Baltimore has. unless it’s JJ Hardy!
My preference is either Maicer Izturis, or Erick Aybar, but I understand that is a bit of a reach.
Joey M – Really good teams don’t often trade really good players (unless they have a plethora of options at one position). Teams like Baltimore, Houston, and KC are more likely to trade talent for prospects, or less expensive talent. This is why rosters on teams like Baltimore are srutinized (probably spelled wrong).
Why does everybody here want to pick from Baltimore’s scrap heap???
It’s better than Colorado’s scrap heap? I dunno.
Imagine you’re the ugly kid in school (it’s a stretch for me, but anyways) and you’ve got a crush on the hot cheerleader. She wants nothing to do with you, goes out of her way to avoid you. You spend your entire 4 years in high school lonely, sad, pining away for this girl… then, one day, the fat girl offers to knock boots with you under the bleachers during the school assembly.
Chances are that, despite your attraction and devotion to a girl that’s way out of your league, you’ll take the fat girl up on her offer because it’s better than anything other options that have come your way.

Carry on as you will Joey…. Prado at ss is wishful thinking, I’d like my wife to be a Jennifer Aniston clone, but I love her as she is!

Big difference between playing a couple games at first and playig shortstop – perhaps full time – for the entire year.

Not to mention that first base is the fallback position for everyone who can’t catch anymore or cover enough outfield ground. Shortstop? Not so much.

Chipper came up as a shortstop- I’m sure he can still play there!
depends on how big Chipper’s glove is, and whether Freeman got some stretchy plastic arms installed this offseason.

Maybe the misplaced condescension just got you off on the wrong foot, and generated that feeling of, “You know, maybe it would feel good to hammer this guy with a tire iron.”
Figuratively, of course.

Like him, chance to be a solid-average regular. No power, but can play short, good approach, adds value through baserunning.
