Totally agree, Upton on this team would be lethal. Speed we have been looking for, 20HR pop and good Defense. Put him in left and start him 145 times and Prado becomes the uber-utility guy he should be. World Series in 2012. I also like the idea of renting Beltran for a season at 10 Mil, but a legit bigger name bat is what we need if we go that route.

I’m glad Frank is happy with his club. Hope he is up to buying his own tickets to the games to watch a team that when their is the hint of fall in the air they fall as well.

Give me friggin break. I think Frank Wren is an idiot. Do you want us to believe that Frank Wren is some super GM genius because he “doesn’t get caught up in the buzz of winter meetings” or because “Wren waits patiently” during the meetings. He didn’t do anything because he is an idiot and has no game plan. He is no smarter or wiser than anyone because he made no moves. It appears to me that he is either stupid or not informed for not making any moves.

Andruw Jones is affordable and willing to come back and take on a spot. You may find out that he can play every day because he has been rested and also lost weight. I think he could give you 25-35 homers based on the 2 year sample from the Rangers and Yankees. No he is not the Andruw we lost but he is more disciplined in hitting even though he cant cover the ground he once covered but remember his instincts havent changed and he still has the same early jumps that others didnt and will never get.

Steve, just as a friendly aside: Wilson isn’t on the roster, and the Braves have never mentioned him being a candidate to start if he were on the roster. Rookie Tyler Pastornicky is penciled in for that role.

Hittahomer may be the only person on any of these blogs who gets it. You wondered why, if only 7 teams had more homers than the braves, did we have so few RBI’s. The vast majority of the homers were solo shots. All of the people who have been clamoring for a “big bat” got it last year and it still did no good. We need guys like Utley who can come to the plate with men on base and think about what he can do with bat to move those guys around the bases. Our guys just rear back and swing fr the fences. If we don’t get some smarter hitters everyone will be singing the same song about our inability to score runs consistently. And if our defense regresses next season the lack of hitting will be magnified once again not to mention the strain it puts on a pitching staff to have to get 4 or 5 outs in an inning instead of 3. We need another power hitter like we need more overpriced food at turner field. We need someone who is a hitter with a hitter’s brain.

You must be kidding about upton. A career .257 hitter who managed to hit .243 on a playoff team last year is going to make us “lethal?” I noticed Ryan church didn’t play anywhere last year, maybe he would play for the minimum. Wren thought he was good enough to trade for a couple of years ago. I saw where Arizona let Saunders go; he had a 3.48 era last season. That should qualify him for an offer from wren of about $15 mil for one season. Go get ‘em, frank.

@native Atlanta- the rays and diamondbacks managed to make the playoffs last year with combined payrolls roughly equal to the braves. Money ain’t the biggest problem. We wasted $30 mil last season on KK, Lowe, and McLouth. Getting our money’s worth is the problem for this gm.

only this stupid GM would be happy with this club without making any moves to improve it. I guess when we get to December 2012 and the Braves finish in the second tier of the division again after the Marlins and Phillies and the upcoming Nationals kick out butts all year with their hitting and pitching he’ll still be happy. Thank God for the Mets they will always keep us out of the cellar

Wrenn is all wet. Harkening back to Aug. and saying we had a bad month is crap. Freddie had the bad month when he took Constanza out and put Heyward in. We needed someone to light a fire and C did. Poor managing. We need someone to play short and third and someone who has some pop for the outfield. Prado is expendable as he is an infielder, 2nd or 3rd and we have Methousela and Uggla there now.
