The only thing I find that is consistent with the NFL match-ups, is that they’re consistently, inconsistent.
The only game I wasn’t too concerned about the Packers losing, this year, was against the Bucs. Yeah, they almost lost it. You just never know, you know?
frustrating that my drinking and airplane discussions (not activities those do not mix at all) keep being interrupted by pointy ball talk.
If we are going to talk pointy ball lets at least talk about my tigers dammit
VERY COOL DOB! Thanx
December 1st, 201110:40 pm
Did you really expect 10 paragraph references to The Dukes of Hazzard and Footloose? Subtle yet to the point. That’s how I like my TV/Movie jabs.
The Bayou Bengals were big in pointyball once B4, about 50 some years ago. nice to see them again…..
December 1st, 201110:41 pm
damn right I expect that ifits really N8
According to Heyman the Reyes bidding is down to Mets and Marlins. Braves, Brewers and others out. I guess the Braves did their due diligence and checked in on him but I doubt it went much further than that.
December 1st, 201110:42 pm
nolie – I don’t follow it much but I recall a couple of BCS championships the last 10 years…we ignoring those?
December 1st, 201110:43 pm
T O’Hawke, exactly. They don’t say “Any given Sunday” for the hell of it.
To be honest with you, it wouldn’t shock me at all for the Chiefs to beat the Packers and then lose every other game on the schedule. Sometimes facing the previous year’s SB winner for a losing team is their only real shot at making a statement. Packers might be trying to rest guys, team like KC starting to play young guys fighting for a possible job next year?
It’s like playing a team with a ton of September callups. Basically nothing to lose. Classic “trap” game.
But since the best I have to offer is Tyler Palko or Kyle Orton? Probably not too many Packers defenders shaking in their boots.
December 1st, 201110:44 pm
no, i was including them tiger, i didn’t mean just this season.I used to be kinduva fan back in the day
December 1st, 201110:46 pm
According to Heyman the Reyes bidding is down to Mets and Marlins.
What? No Red Sox bids?
this is why I never fully commit to the Niners winning any game they play. This week they have the 2-9 Rams, with the division title on the line. The Rams have one of the worst rush defenses in the league and Frank Gore is 6th in rushing. This game is SCREAMING Trap Game at me…
December 1st, 201110:49 pm
Ha,ha. No, but you’re right about, their only real shot at making a statement. After having a poor season, that game against Green Bay will be the Chiefs’ Super Bowl game.
December 1st, 201110:50 pm
The meetings start Monday, right?
I did 2…but no longer. I did watch the arkansas game. My oldest was in town for thanksgiving and wanted to watch it. I think it is the last full game I’ve watched since BCS Championship in 2008 (is that the right year?)
December 1st, 201110:53 pm
5-8 I think
Reyes? I’d be reallly surprised later on to find out the Braves even had any interest in him at all. You had to know from the very start there was no chance to sign him.
The epitome of inconsistency, IMO, has been the Giants this year. Just ask VJ… or Ward. Until their loss against the Saints, it seemed as though they couldn’t beat the bad teams, yet, they always played well against the good teams. Go figure.
December 1st, 201110:54 pm
I remember when they beat Clemson 7-0 for the 1958 national championship I think it was
And my Niners really could have used their help last week- beating the Saints would have giving them a 2 game cushion for the #2 seed. Of course, beating the Packers on Sunday would help too.
December 1st, 201110:57 pm
Tom O’Hawke–Sorry to be obscure. Mundoo is Bengali for ‘head’. Chewing one’s head means that someone is, well, making life difficult–chewing one’s head off.
December 1st, 201110:58 pm
Well… forget that, woman!
I expect your boys to be in good shape. Other than the Steelers, just beat the teams you SHOULD beat.
December 1st, 201110:59 pm
moe – see I was guessing the opposite end (or in reality the middle)
December 1st, 201111:00 pm
I understood the gist of what you said. My only mistake was that I had, mundoo, as a different part of the anatomy.
December 1st, 201111:01 pm
If they win on Sunday, the Niners will clinch the NFC West. But still need to hang on to that #2 seed. Would be nice to have that week off at the end of the season…
December 1st, 201111:04 pm
To be honest with you, LAdy, I think your team has a better shot of finishing with the best record, than the 3rd best.
nolie, thanks. Yeah I wasn’t sure, thought it might start the 8th for some reason. Guess I could’ve looked it up. Well good, I’m anxious.
December 1st, 201111:09 pm
The Bayou Bengals were big in pointyball once B4, about 50 some years ago. nice to see them again….
By Bayou Bengals, I assume you mean LSU. And if you mean LSU, then what happened to the 2003 and 2007 national championships? I’d say LSU has been very good for the last 10 years after some rough times in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
December 1st, 201111:11 pm
Don’t know about that- Saints are 8-3, although the Niners have an easier schedule, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot…
December 1st, 201111:15 pm
Well, it sounds like we have some here that assume the worst. The mundoo is nothing so interesting.
December 1st, 201111:18 pm
Can we start a petition to contract the Eagles?
December 1st, 201111:22 pm
Yes, there is that (easier schedule), cabravesfan. But I believe your team is much better balanced, than the Saints. The 49ers defense is pretty much about the best in the NFL, this year.
December 1st, 201111:23 pm
LSU’s football issues are what prompted me to extend my stay at said university…they went to a bowl game my freshman year and then started playing poorly so I said I’ll stay until they go back to a bowl game. Then I stayed a couple more seasons just to enjoy the fun. 1997 vs. florida was probably the best football game I’ve ever attended.
December 1st, 201111:25 pm
more pointy ball than I care to discuss
when its sleepy time down south….
December 1st, 201111:26 pm
Well, it sounds like we have some here that assume the worst.
I wouldn’t, necessarily, call it the worst, Moe.
If someone was going to chew my mundoo off… I may rather have it what Tiger and I thought it was.
December 1st, 201111:28 pm
Well, that is true (about my Niner’s defense) I just get all panicky when it comes to them…
If someone was going to chew my mundoo off… I may rather have it what Tiger and I thought it was
Umm….I probably shouldn’t comment…just…yeah…
The A Bomb - OUTCHOKED ® TWICE!
Division continues to load up.
Marlins lock up Heath Bell.
December 1st, 201111:33 pm
Wow- next week’s Monday night game may be the worst in history- the 5-7 Seahawks at home against the (before they play this week) 2-9 Rams…Yikes
I just get all panicky when it comes to them…
I hear you, LAdy, I’m the same way about the Packers.
Umm….I probably shouldn’t comment…just…yeah…
Well, think about it (or not). If my butt is getting chewed off, I can still THINK about a way to escape.
But if my head is being chewed off, what’s my butt going to do. Yeah!! Just SIT there.
December 1st, 201111:34 pm
It wasn’t easy, but I think I just made my silliest post of all time!
December 1st, 201111:35 pm
Two things – A) I look at MLBTradeRumors everyday for like a second and spend hours on this blog. DOB kicks a** and the people on this blog, although not all that bright, are danged entertaining!!!
B) The 49ers do NOT suck, they are 9-2 and soon to be 10-2. They will make the playoffs and they are one of two or three teams that are actually built to be able to beat the Packers in Lambeau. Before you all tell me I’m crazy think about it, they have a great Defense and a great running attack. Both of those you need to compete at Lambeau in January… Just think about it before you tell me I’m nuts. Alex Smith spends a few more years in the same system with Harbaugh and he will become a really good QB. Count on it..
December 1st, 201111:36 pm
You have mail. I think. If I sent it to the right address…
December 1st, 201111:38 pm
A little late night action as the Marlins agree to terms with Heath Bell. First big move for them this offseason.

You are killing me, I was looking at an ESPN article on the three ways to fix the teams in the NL East and all these fans are saying the Marlins are going to take 2nd to the Phils because of all the money they are spending. They haven’t signed anyone yet, that I’ve seen (and I just looked on MLBTRADERUMORS and MLB.COM). Until someone signs a Check no one is locked up.
December 1st, 201111:43 pm
You didn’t want me to reply twice, did you?
December 1st, 201111:44 pm
Tomahawkin – I’ve got to disagree, the Chipmunks Christmas I’ve been listening to every winter since I was like 10 and still love it. My 3 year old loves it too! She much prefers that to XM sports in the morning on the way to preschool.
CA – I’m glad I’ve got one friend here lol!
Ok, I cant sleep…! GRRRRRR
Time to cool out to some old Fleetwood Mac…
December 1st, 201111:46 pm
There are few ways to become my friend faster than complimenting my Niners.
December 1st, 201111:48 pm
I’ve been a Niners fan as long as I’ve been a Braves fan. One of my earliest memories is watching the Monday Night game that Montana came back to San Francisco. My boss is a huge fan too, for Christmas I got him a signed 8×10 with Montana and Rice. He’s going to flip out
December 1st, 201111:50 pm
TnBrian, Tomahawkin: You fellas are too kind. Thank ya. I appreciate it.
My curiosity made me scroll back to see what that was all about.
Did you realize that, Pierre is Dentz (Paul Lentz), aka, We made the September 2007 Mets look like the 1927 Yankees, and a myriad of others already previously banned by you?
Not that it wasn’t thoughtful for Brian & T-Hawkin to stick up for you. It’s just that I suspect that most, here, don’t take his posts too seriously.
December 1st, 201111:52 pm
“Tomahawkin – I’ve got to disagree, the Chipmunks Christmas I’ve been listening to every winter since I was like 10 and still love it. My 3 year old loves it too! She much prefers that to XM sports in the morning on the way to preschool.”
I’d Rather listen to Justin Barbie (Bieber) or Lil Wendy (Lil Wayne) Over the Alvin and the Chipmuncks Stuff, And Thats Saying something!
That stuff is horrible! Especially when they (The Chipmuncks) did their rendition of “Uptown Girl” abt 20 years ago…Gawd-awful!
And I get Clowned on here because I state the facts in that old Mariah is Pure Poetry…Go Figure?
December 1st, 201111:54 pm
Was That Lentz? That was posting on here…?
I had no Idea he got reinstated? He got put on Perma-Bozo 6 weeks before I got Bozo’d from the blog…?
December 1st, 201111:58 pm
I don’t love it, but it reminds me of all the great memories when I was younger. I’m personally a bigger fan of an acapella group one of my childhood friends belongs to, they are pretty good for singing more traditional songs.
Check them out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eELPuhoq344&sns=tw
It’s a little pop sounding but they are pretty good.
December 1st, 201111:59 pm
He’s STILL on perma-bozo, T-Hawkin. But that never stops him.
You have to respect him for his resieliency and tenacity, you know?
December 2nd, 201112:01 am
I would be happy with that as a Christmas gift I’ve been a Niners fan my entire life- started as a crush on Joe Montana and turned into a somewhat obsessive loyalty. Only team I love more is my beloved USC football team. Although the Braves are a close 3rd, or perhaps 2a…
OK, 1 too many e’s in resiliency.
December 2nd, 201112:02 am
Jbailz – semantics
With the Marlins getting Johnson back, the Mets getting Santana back plus the Nats loading up and getting better and even if the Phils stay the same PLUS a tougher interleague schedule AND the lack of leadership from Gene Mauch Gonzalez, look for 5-10 fewer wins next season.
Unless, of course Wren pulls a significant move. But ‘12 isn’t shaping up well.
wow, dave sure cranked it up on the macc thing. my opinion if it matters, macc holds the same value that tex had in texas.
if we fall out of the race early his value will escalate. hope that does not happen, but if it does there will plenty of teams knocking at the doors.
gotta say with the payroll we have if we pay macc going forward more than 12 million it would not be prudent.
if i was brian’s agent i would hold out. his value long term is in the AL.
the dude can swat.

December 2nd, 201112:04 am
Thanks for setting me straight, I do still think it’ll take more than Bell to close the gap. Hopefully Wren will surprise us.

Jbailz — I strictly look at the Braves and to be honest, I don’t like what I see. Too much has to break the right way.
December 2nd, 201112:08 am
Don’t forget Bat Masterson. He was bozo’d, and had to change his modem to get back on.
And, he didn’t even do anything!!!
Dentz may be an ass, but he ain’t stupid.

for those of you that grew up in the 80’s around athens. it kinda makes you i guess, sad.

Glenn Miller for me… — VJ
John Philip Sousa, for nolie.
December 2nd, 201112:49 am
Backstreet Boys for me…. Just kidding!
Also from Knobler (via Twitter), the Rockies turned down the Braves’ offer of Martin Prado in exchange for outfielder Seth Smith and prospect Nolan Arenado. Given that Arenado is one of Colorado’s top prospects, this was a total pie-in-the-sky offer from the Braves.
December 2nd, 201112:53 am
I would have thought nolie’s was Wolfgang Amadeus…
December 2nd, 201112:55 am
VJ, the glenn miller band?
December 2nd, 201112:57 am
glenn miller or steve miller?
now the steve miller band. good stuff.
December 2nd, 201112:59 am
Poor nolie. He’s not here and we’re tearing him up. And, we’re supposed to be his friends, too!
I guess old nolie is a poor judge of character, you know, Jim?
December 2nd, 20111:01 am
tom, how are things? your packers play jim’s giants this weekend.
December 2nd, 20111:02 am
uga – I considered saying I had erred and changing to Steve (to get to the right era), but I find Steve Miller nearly-totally worthless – if there has ever been a worse song than Take the Money and Run, it isn’t much worse…
I’ll take In the Mood or Pennsylvania 6-5000 over that any time…
December 2nd, 20111:03 am
I’m used to being made fun of due to my age, and, let’s face it, how many people are older than me who I can make fun of?
December 2nd, 20111:04 am
This is the biggest point total I have picked against my Giants in the 3 years cab and I have been doing our pool…
December 2nd, 20111:06 am
uga, I can’t complain. I’ve been busy with work, but that’s a GOOD thing, from what so many others are going through.
Packers @ Giants. Most of my friends are Giants fans. I’ll be watching the game with one.
Even as many injuries as the Giants have, I still think they’ll be a tough match. I hope I’m wrong.
December 2nd, 20111:09 am
VJ, the pats are 20,5 favorites over the colts.
largest spread in, well the history of the NFL.
December 2nd, 20111:10 am
listening to the Bobby V interview, cant believe i wanted that guy. his ego will never abide.
December 2nd, 20111:13 am
even on the day the guy got hired, he cant quit saying stupid stuff. might as well put on his sweeney todd oufit.
December 2nd, 20111:17 am
VJ, the pats are 20.5 favorites over the colts.
And the Niners have the 2nd largest spread this week- that makes me nervous…
December 2nd, 20111:18 am
I did not have to look at the spread to make the Pats my 16 point choice this week…
December 2nd, 20111:19 am
cab, the niner’s have the falcons of last season all over them.
December 2nd, 20111:23 am
niner’s or the saints will probably get other the bye in the first round.
December 2nd, 20111:24 am
I’m not sure what you mean by that, uga-brave, but if you’re saying that they’ll lose to the Packers, then I guess I can live with that.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
