good to hear about Mac
Yeah, but didn’t USC have a Heisman revoked?
November 19th, 20118:08 pm
We’ve got 5 more of those
November 19th, 20118:09 pm
And actually, no, it wasn’t revoked. Bush returned it on his own
5 revoked Heismans??
November 19th, 20118:10 pm
Yep – and one used to be owned by a murderer.
lew Chipper is on the DL everyyear and hasn’t been relevant in some time. Nolie said we wouldn’t make the trade you said the cubs wouldn’t cab so I’m confused. Both of you are saying I’m wrong but your both argue different points maybe ya’ll should argue with each it.
Revoked by any other name……still results in no hardware.
November 19th, 20118:11 pm
and your point would be?
November 19th, 20118:12 pm
He was found innocent so it’s pure sepculation about OJ!
Chipper not relevant? Seems he was second on the team in OPS last year (and close to first), was elected to the All Star team and put up some of the best offensive numbers by a NL 3B ast year. But who’s counting, right?
And won a Batting Chapionship just three years ago.
November 19th, 20118:13 pm
USC is the west coast canes. The finest thugs money can buy.
November 19th, 20118:14 pm
cab – MY point? That no matter how you spin it, USC still isn’t in the SEC and if they were, they wouldn’t have all those awards they have to give back.
November 19th, 20118:15 pm
Besides – the best college football player ever played (and won a Heismann) for UGA.
Cuban is obviously here for one reason. Nobody can be that stoopid in real life, may be it’s Lou/Earl in yet another incarnation?
Glad to hear that, thanks.
He was hurt how many times he is washed up bro face it most already have. Lots of aging stars make the AS game he was one. Chipper was great now he is robbing us.
No spin. Just facts. I wasn’t aware of “all the awards” they had to give back. Just the one.
November 19th, 20118:16 pm
nolie – Could be.
cab – Just the one they got nailed for. Doubt anyone from the SEC ever cut his wife’s head off, either.
November 19th, 20118:17 pm
Greatest ever player an Uga? who in the world would that be???
November 19th, 20118:18 pm
Is there a particular reason you are being so nasty to me right now?
Yeah I’m ignorant. Okay I’m off to get my drink on and Barry Sanders is the best college and pro RB ever.
I’m thinking jeff321
November 19th, 20118:19 pm
Looks like the Criminoles are starting this game like they ended last weeks game
Nope, they usually just fail drug tests.
November 19th, 20118:20 pm
don’t you always think Jeff321???
cab – Cause you went and talked trash about the SEC. That’s a NO NO.
I’m a UGA alum and was at every game Herschel Walker played between the hedges. I’m a true blue SEC alum – the best football conference there is.
yeah, because all of them schools in the SEC are so clean… what a joke..
November 19th, 20118:21 pm
narrow minded much?
or is it that I always think Lou/Earl? ,,…
November 19th, 20118:22 pm
I didn’t say a single negative thing about the SEC. Not one. I responded to someone with facts that showed that a school outside that conference has been more successful in the NFL draft than any other school. If you took that as an insult, that is not my problem or concern.
November 19th, 20118:23 pm
Yeah, have to say the dirty stuff happens at a lot of schools and probably all the conferences, SEC included (hello, Cam Newton?) – not everyone gets busted for it though.
There’s likely not a college footballo program that’s clean. But yeh, there are some games right now that you wonder if UGA is going to wear prison orange instead of Red and Black – or those monstrosities they wore earlier this season.
November 19th, 20118:24 pm
cab – Chill. It ain’t personal. Just interschool trash talking.
November 19th, 20118:25 pm
I wasn’t talking trash.
Which – if you had the privelege of playing in the SEC, you’d be used o.
November 19th, 20118:26 pm
Cab – Good Lord. For crying out loud. I apolopgoze. God forbid you take it good naturedly as it was meant.
I just scared my dog half to death
November 19th, 20118:27 pm
you are just so eager to stick up for UCLA USC that you are an easy target cab
November 19th, 20118:28 pm
first you kill VJ and now you are trying to kill the three-legged wonder dog?
It’s all good. No apology necessary. I was not on the same page as you, obviously…you are one one that I rarely argue with (or trash talk with, for that matter) so it caught me off guard.
November 19th, 20118:29 pm
cab – It’s cool – I just take my UGA and SEC seriously and know they’re the best conference year after year.
Not stick up for. Just point out that they are a pretty good team…
and I didn’t mean to nearly kill the dog- I screamed at the TV and she had been sound asleep on the bed- panicked and came flying out here thinking I was in danger
November 19th, 20118:30 pm
other conferences = Phillies
November 19th, 20118:31 pm
Not always, that just seems like jeff321’s particular brand of stubborn dumb.
VJ and I should smack talk. Here, let me start.
Hey, VJ – GSU fo’ life. W & M best be scared ’cause we’re coming up…in like 10 years.
nolie – Nah. The SEC is always good, though. Didn’t Florida State used to be good, too?
I guess the Criminoles getting back in the rankings went to their head
November 19th, 20118:32 pm
He’s not here
November 19th, 20118:33 pm
Soph – My undergad school – Mercer – starts up their football program for the first time since the early 40’s in a year or so. Plenty of futility to be found when they start play.
30 straight bowl games still going, nobody even close to that. 14 straight years in the top 5, about twice as long as any other team. playing like crap against Virginia tonight though
It’s okay, cab. Tell him what I said later. Exactly like that and wag your finger in his face a little.
November 19th, 20118:34 pm
are they gonna be independent or in a small conference Lew?
Lew – GSU started theirs up last season and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Even got a game vs. Bama in which of course they were absolutely destroyed in but made a lot of money off of.
November 19th, 20118:36 pm
GSU has feetsball now? cool
Just texted it to him. Complete with finger wagging notation
November 19th, 20118:37 pm
What a fantastic catch my Marquise Lee!
November 19th, 20118:38 pm
I think the statement was that the SEC was much stronger than the PAC12. And it is.
November 19th, 20118:40 pm
Christian Bethancourt and Joe Terdoslavich were both named to 22-member Ariz. Fall League Top Prospects team.
You have a facebook message
November 19th, 20118:42 pm
no Gilmartin then?
McFann O O o
November 19th, 20118:44 pm
cabravesfan I screamed at the TV and she had been sound asleep on the bed- panicked and came flying out here thinking I was in danger
Ah, poor baby!…
November 19th, 20118:45 pm
I just saw the single worst call by a ref in college or pro football this year
November 19th, 20118:46 pm
I just screamed again- dog seems used to it now
November 19th, 20118:51 pm
Did I scare everyone away?
November 19th, 20118:52 pm
Guess I did
November 19th, 20118:53 pm
Yes, you’re quite scary…
November 19th, 20118:54 pm
Great throw and catch there
November 19th, 20118:55 pm
The AP (via The Star Ledger) reports that the minimum salary will rise from $414K this year to $480K next year, and then to $500K in later years.
Within the same article, the AP also reports that the Super Two cutoff will be increased to 22% of players with 2-3 years of service time. The previous cutoff had been 17%. An additional five or six players will be arbitration-eligible each year due to the change.
Guess the players won out on Super 2. I thought they would eliminate that. With free agent comp and Super 2, players do well there.
November 19th, 20118:58 pm
So with that minimum being 480K next year, looks like we have even less to play with in 2012 than I thought. Maybe only like 650-750K less overall, but still..
keep marteeen. take a deal that’s not quite greinke-like for JJ. heyward can’t be the only one in the outfield with 100 rbi’s next year……
as long as i’m dreaming, i’d like a pony.
November 19th, 20119:00 pm
How bad does Amaro Jr. look now? He’ll lose a first rounder for Papelbon, while teams signing Madson, Bell or K-Rod will not lose any selections. If he had been patient at all, he’d still have his first round pick. Good for us…and Boston.
November 19th, 20119:06 pm
Efrim why will he cost a first and not bell or k rod.
November 19th, 20119:14 pm
Cuban, CBA changes. Relievers will no longer cost first round selections – however Papelbon will still cost it because the new CBA wasn’t announced yet.
Ruben strikes again.
November 19th, 20119:21 pm
Marquise Lee. Y’all will be hearing that name a lot in the next 2 years
November 19th, 20119:22 pm
Got yeah Efrim. Also Cabravesfan I highly respect USC just there conference. I use to live in Cali and I always stick up for USC in conversations they get little respect in GA because of the conference but they can hang with anyone. So we finally agree!
November 19th, 20119:23 pm
*not there conference sorry
November 19th, 20119:24 pm
Can’t control how good your conference is. All you can do is win games.
November 19th, 20119:25 pm
Yeah Boise State says that too.
November 19th, 20119:26 pm
And they would be correct. Although I do always wonder why they moved from one mid major conference to another. The Pac 12 would have been perfect. And we wouldn’t be stuck with Colorado
Given that the Pac 12 is better than the mountain west.
November 19th, 20119:27 pm
And it’s an AQ conference
Their scared and that would have been a good move for them.
November 19th, 20119:32 pm
I just yelled again. Poor dog
November 19th, 20119:33 pm
Can we trade the Pac-12 refs for ANY OTHER CONFERENCE OFFICIALS???
November 19th, 20119:38 pm
Hello everyone! I’m doing some re- thinking, and think we should keep Prado too. Trade J.J. for prospects or LF.Just get some one to play 3rd base,so when Chipper gets hurt.Play Prado for a full year in LF if Wren can’t get a LF this year?
November 19th, 20119:39 pm
Bobby Valentine could be the next Boston coach? It’s starting to look that way?
November 19th, 20119:45 pm
I would mock the fact that Arizona is playing Louisiana Lafayette next week, but LA-L is 8-3 and Zona is dreadfully bad at 2-8, so chances are good they will lose.
November 19th, 20119:46 pm
Heyward says he ready for a big year. He trimed down, and with a healthy diet. He’s in better shape than last year. According to Mark Bowmans article. That’s good news if your a Braves fan,but as a Braves Fan I would still stick to the steaks…….
November 19th, 20119:47 pm
The Red Sox traded Coco Crisp to the Royals for Ramon Ramirez three years ago today, and four years prior to that the Nationals traded Maicer Izturis and Juan Rivera to the Angels for Jose Guillen. Here’s the latest from baseball’s two East divisions…
Infielder Matt Antonelli will undergo a physical on Monday to finalize his major league deal with the Orioles, tweets Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun.
Orioles GM Dan Duquette didn’t sound terribly interested in signing a high-priced DH such as David Ortiz during an interview on WEEI (audio link, 9:00 mark).
If Liberty Media decided to sell the Braves, Mark Cuban wouldn’t pursue the franchise, tweets David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A recent AJC poll showed 95% of readers would like Cuban to buy the team but the eccentric owner told O’Brien that he would prefer to buy a team that is in need of a lot of help. Liberty Media has the right to sell the team after the current CBA expires on December 11th, but there’s no evidence that a sale is imminent.
The Marlins have already scouted Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, reports MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro. The 19-year-old has been working out for teams in the Dominican Republic, and yesterday we heard that the Rangers have scouted him as well.
The Indians and Grady Sizemore are in “serious discussions” about a reunion, but the Phillies had interest in the outfielder according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). Current GM Ruben Amaro Jr. and former GM Pat Gillick visited Sizemore in Arizona on the first day of free agency.
“The free agent guys haven’t made me any offers,” said Yankees GM Brian Cashman to Dan Martin of The New York Post. “The free agent [market] is moving at a glacial speed. And the category I’m shopping in, I don’t believe guys are jumping off the board this week. The players I’m interested in won’t be coming off the board anytime soon.”
November 19th, 20119:49 pm
Brian McCann was set to earn $8.5MM next season but “maxed out” his contract incentives related to Silver Slugger awards and All-Star appearances, so the star catcher will earn a total of $11.5MM in 2012. O’Brien said the Braves haven’t discussed a long-term extension with McCann but the team usually doesn’t pursue such negotiations until later in the winter. McCann is under contract through next year and the Braves have a $12MM club option on McCann for 2013 that looks like a lock to be exercised.
In regards to the Martin Prado trade talks between the Braves and Rockies, O’Brien thinks Atlanta would move Prado for Seth Smith and a center field prospect like Tim Wheeler or Charlie Blackmon. With Michael Bourn only contracted through 2012, the Braves are looking for center field depth in case Bourn’s asking price is too high for their liking.
Atlanta “made a run at” Jamey Carroll but balked at giving the 37-year-old infielder a multiyear contract.
The Braves are known to desire a trade package for Jair Jurrjens similar to the one the Royals received last winter for Zack Greinke, but O’Brien says this asking price could be too high for most teams. “Word out of the GM meetings was that the Braves are demanding so much for Jurrjens that a deal might be unlikely unless they come down in their multi-player/prospect asking price or some teams get desperate for starting pitching later in the offseason,” O’Brien writes.
“It’s unclear” if Atlanta is interested in bringing back Alex Gonzalez on a one-year deal. The Braves are looking for a short-term veteran to play shortstop until Tyler Pastornicky is ready.
GM Frank Wren says his team isn’t actively shopping Prado and Jurrjens but are willing to listen to offers. “I think that [Prado and Jurrjens trade possibility] was wrongly characterized from the very beginning,” Wren said. “What we said and what we stand by is that we’re looking to get better, and however we can get better we will. We’re open minded. We’ll listen if somebody calls.”
November 19th, 20119:50 pm
Trey- Do you think Wren, will make a move soon, before we all grow old,and have white hair?
November 19th, 20119:52 pm
lane giffen makes me pull harder against socal then against notre dame – i hope he falls on his face
braves need to be solid up the middle so they need a hotshot ss to go w/ bourn, uggla & mccan – so no rookie please
Trey-I read all that, and that is old news…..
November 19th, 20119:53 pm
Sign a veteran, and let Pastornicky mature during the season slowly.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
