Renteria shouldnt be a option in my opinion. He just declined so fast after his final year in Atlanta. He isnt good at anything anymore. Terrible defender, not much with the bat either. But regardless he’ll prolly have to sign a minor league deal and battle for a bench spot on any team. Wouldnt mind if they invited him to ST just too see. Just crazy how he can go from 860. OPS to 699. in one season.

Historically, they haven’t spent big on position player free agents. They have a couple of good SS prospects in the minors. As much as they could use one of those guys for 2012, I have my doubts. If I’m a Braves fan, I’d LIKE to see them do that and keep Prado to play left field/third base. Maybe they’ll dangle one of their pitchers for one of Boston’s shortstops — Lowrie, Aviles, Scutaro. Seems like a good match there.

What’s your suggestion for the Braves in order to address the need for a capable SS (until Pastornicky arrives) and a legitimate LF (Prado is not an everyday LF, he’s a super sub!!!!). Do you see them bringing up Pastornicky if they can’t find a veteran SS for a year?

I do think Pastornicky is a viable alternative, or maybe a midseason call-up after a little more time in Triple-A. I still think there’s a deal to be made with Boston. Lowrie if they want to pay more, Aviles if they want to pay less.

Does Lowerie really have any value? He is always hurt and is going to be arb eligible next year

The more I look at Lowrie … you’re probably right. And he wasn’t that good at the plate last year (.303 OBP). Anyway, it will be an interesting to see what the Braves do with those young pitchers: Remember, for every three pitching prospects, maybe one turns into somethings. But it will be Teheran or Vizcaino or Minor?

Shi% I wish they’d do something. Any free chance I get I check this place out and MLBTR the last few weeks and I feel sorta stupid. Anticipating something, getting nothing. I think I just get so bored with stuff in my life anyways and my team breaks that boredom, just not right now. I like action.
Next meetings will definitely be interesting. That’s the 8th through whatever, right?

Oh My God tv sucks! Any show I do like are just reruns.
Think I’ll play The Show. Been a few weeks since I played. I’ll be the Braves of course. Who should I trade for? I had to make my own Jonny Venters cause the Jonny they made had hair and looked nothing like him. It was bugging me. Freeman too. Him because he is a rookie and the game doesn’t take time on those people. Except Heyward, they had him perfectly.

Edgar Renteria made $2.1 M last year and Pastornicky would make $.5 M. How much more would it take to sign one of the best defensive SS in MLB for goodness sakes?

Yes he did (in the minors) and he was never the choice to play SS in MLB after that although he did play some in the 90’s because we didn’t have anyone else. I simply don’t care if AGon doesn’t hit. He’s going to hit a few timely HR’s and works well with Uggla. I just can’t see them going with an unproven rookie at the most important defensive position.

If they do nothing, than that’s probably where it ends up. I still think that’s a very good team. However, I’m just not sure it’s Frank’s MO to sit around and go into 2012 with the same song and dance. He seems a bit more aggressive.

Jurrjens will be traded if possible. Medlen will join Minor in replacing Jurrjens and Lowe. Delgado and Teheran will start in AAA. Vizcaino will come to spring training as a starter but leave spring training as a set up man for the big league club.

Jolie, thanks for the scouting article. Baseball is my favorite sport because of its enormous simplicity and it’s enormous complexity.
I love that a team with great scouting and development can outperform a team that just buys talent.
Now that steroids are becoming less of a factor, baseball should get a lot younger and turn over more quickly. That shifts the emphasis to a team’s development side.

Very good read nolie. Had a talk this past year w/ one of Boras’ scouts at a local high school game and we were talking about various things we look at in players. One of the nicest guys I’ve met in baseball and he took the time to BS w/ me.
