Basically the Lowe trade gave us our only spending money which is roughly around 5 million. You cant improve this roster with 5 mil. The Pirates signed Clint Barmes signed a 2 year deal for 5.5 mil a season for crying out loud. Pretty Pathetic.

After the collapse in september you’d think there would be more urgency to improve this team for now or future.
Still early. Next month will be the bulk of the player movement. Best time of the year for a number of reasons.
If the Braves went into the season with the same team plus a couple bench players and Pastornicky at SS, I’d still be comfortable calling them one of the better teams in the National League. Not sure Wren will make no moves though. If I had to guess, some sort of trade to bring in a SS or even deal Prado, will happen. I think there is a better shot Prado will move, imo. Didn’t think that two weeks ago…..but New York, Kansas City, and Texas have made some moves that have limited their need for starting pitching.

Efrim – I’m not sure Wren will give up either Prado,and J.J. He’s made it clear,unless he gets that deal he wants,and so far Wren, has lived up to his word.The way it sounds is Wren ,could do very little,and we could see more of the same next year.I hope Wren, makes a trade,but so far he’s owning up to his word.

Right now no one is willing to give Wren, a good package,so we could see vey little done. Which is a bumer,because I was hoping Wren, would do something,and I think we might see Durango,as the LF in a Platoon.Hope I’m wrong,just not getting my hopes up.

Efrim, I’d love to have a legit everyday LF who can hit in the middle of the lineup and for them to bring in a SS with Gonzo’s defense and a better stick. Reality is probably pretty far from that though. Nowhere near enough money and it seems JJ, Wren’s prize trade chip right now, doesn’t have the value he might want. Prado might bring in more this offseason. More as in a platoon guy and a decent prospect.
We’ll see.

Ward, trust Wren. Pretty sure he and his guys are analyzed every detail of what this team needs and will get it. Might not look pretty at first, but it’ll all form together. They already see what we don’t is what I’ve taken out of these last few offseasons. You look back and realize what they’re whole plan was later on.

If [payroll is truly limited to the $5 mil that everyone seems to think we have, then what will happen is that they will find a shortstop or bring Pastornicky up and they will find a very cheap LFer to platoon with Prado when he plays third base.
They are NOT goig to find an everyday LFer AND a 3B replacement for Chipper for the $4.5 mil they will save with Prado being gone. That $5 mil they supposedly have will go for bench strength and some left oer for trade deadline.
OR, Wren isn’t spreading a line of BS when he says they have more money available.

Lew, I am one of those who don’t believe the $5 million limit that we supposedly have. That would mean we had nothing before the Lowe trade, hard for me to believe that Wren would ever have have allowed it to be that tight. How much more I am not sure but my guess would be we still have at least 10 million with the increase in payroll we were told about.

CB – I’m still doubting a Prado trade no matter how much we have left. Like I’ve been saying, the two players needed to replace Martin and improve the team will cost more than Martin would save them in salary.
Our strength is pitching – not only Jurrjens, but all throughout the minor league system. I think Wren will deal Jurrjens and someone (or two) from AA or lower and get at least one of the pieces he needs.
That makes much more sense – dealing from your stregths – than trading a player it would take two others to replace. Especially after three successive years of .800 OPS and a bad season due to a devastating injury.

Hey, another baseball prospect coming along. Our close friends in STAFFORD now have a gangly redheaded 14 year-old RHP that’s starting to make some impressive moves in the 14U travel circuit. Jeeze, I never thought baseball would be this popular in my family and circle of friends. There never was anybody in my family or community that was worth their salt playing baseball.

CB – Especially when you figure that most clubs interested in Prado claim he’s Cuddyer only younger. Cuddyer made $10.5 mil last year – a far cry from the $4.5 mil Prado is scheduled to make this year. If Martin is truly that valuable (and I believe he is -whether platooning with Chipper, spending time in LF or as Super Sub ), then we need him and trading him wouldn’t be in our best interests.

Prado gets traded. JJ probably doesn’t have the value to other teams as he does to Wren. Just my opinion, but MP is traded for a platoony in left and a ok prospect. Cheap, cheap, cheap. JJ might get traded eventually this offseason too, but better chance at the deadline when FW can get a better return.

I’ll say it again because it’s the absolute truth – you do NOT trade Prado unless you get a full time LFer better than Martin and a 3B replacemnt for Chipper that is at the very least the equal of Martin. Otherwie, there is no improvement whatsoever and if a deal doesn’t make you better then it’s not worth doing. A platoon LFer and a prospect doesn’t do a thing to improve us.

Not to mention that if that was all the return that WQren wanted from a Prado dfeal, he would have done a deal with the Tigers already or we’d be talking about Seth Smith as our LFer.
Since Frank hasn’t bitten on either of those deals, I’d say the chances are pretty damned good he’s looking for more in return.

Lew, yeah but how do we know either one of those teams wouldn’t budge on any of their better prospects plus a MLB OF for Martin? Thinking of that Wheeler kid or maybe even Fowler. Possible that Wren wanted Jackson from DET since he could be looking for a possible Bourn replacement in ‘13.
Lots could’s, possibly’s and maybe’s right now. Nobody knows. Not a true leak anywhere.

TnBRian -Of course it’s all speculation, but the fact is that the Braves won the WC in 2010 and were one and out after sev3eral close games and missed the playoffs last year by a single game with an epic collapse.
The question is do you attempt to improve and get back to the playoffs and go further in them or do you start tearing down a team that is that cvlose for “prospects” that might help you somewhere in the future?
The answer is that you attempt to improve and trading for platoon players (which honestly, you already have) and prospects (again what you already have) will NOT improve you. This is not some team that is old and in decline. You don’t tear it down and start again as if you were the Pirates – especially with all the trade bait we have in the minors that won’t affect our top prospects.

I’d be much more concerned about losing to the two Good teams we started the season against. I thin it all depends on our running game and defense. Not having any certainty is all the more reason to be watching the game – and getting hammered while doing so – just in case.

Any good college football team SHOULD beat weaker teams and those having poorer than usual years – it’s how they do against definitely GOOD teams like Bosie State that shows their true measure.
Spurrier’s teams should always lose to the Dawgs simply because it’s a Spurrier team and he worthy of our hate on general priciples.

Oh I think LSU is a great team and Georgia is a good team that has all the weapons necessary to play a great game.

The defense is good enough
