Great blog tonight DOB. Thanks.
November 18th, 201111:43 pm
Wayne…how are ya?
November 18th, 201111:50 pm
Great Joe. Watching a little TV with my oldest. Flashpoint.
I’m thinking that Prado will be dealt to Colorado. They will eventually give up one of the two CF’ers. We might have to sweeten the pot with a lower level prospect.
November 18th, 201111:58 pm
McCann got one hell of a raise to be the worst defensive catcher in the league. Great offense, though. .180 or so the last couple of months.
Night, JoeBrave – nice BJ Thomas – I know some Tiny Tim, not that one…
November 19th, 201112:00 am
McCann got one hell of a raise to be the worst defensive catcher in the league
Do you ever watch any other team in the league, or do you just like to make inane comments to make yourself feel superior to people who know what they’re talking about?
November 19th, 201112:09 am
Trading for Seth Smith, another left-handed hitter, is NOT what the Braves need. The need a right-handed hitting outfielder with some pop. And have Smith platoon with Matt Diaz in leftfield. Are you serious?/
Would that leave Heyward playing everyday in right?
The Braves are already lefty hitting heavy, with Bourne, McCann, Freeman, and maybe Heyward, playing against leftys. And not just lefty starters, every lefthander reliever gets used vs. Braves hitters.
Is there a stat for how many innings a team faces lefty/vs. righthanders.
Bad idea all the way around!!
day shift observations
November 19th, 201112:19 am
Anyone else think JoeBrave, Ward, and Tnbrian are related?
November 19th, 201112:22 am
lucky if they get any higher than 4th in 2012 behind the Phils, Marlins and Nats
what total crap
November 19th, 201112:25 am
ion television, postively entertaining!
November 19th, 201112:26 am
Too much gibberish if you ask me.
On another note…it’ssad that we really need a shortstop and a center fielder when we traded away one of the best young shortstops in the majors in Elvis Andrus. Plus now it looks like we really could use Jordan Shafer back. Bourne for 2 years then out wasn’t worth our top centerfield prospect. Jordan struggled because of his bad wrist, but he is a top tier prospect. Looks like Jeff Francour is better now that he is an ex-Brave as well.
We always trade away the pieces that would have taken us over the top for what? A rental player or two that we either can’t resign because of their agent or don’t want to resign because they were a bust. McLouth comes to mind in the bust catagory. Bourne & Texeria come to mind in the can’t sign catagory (I hate Boros’s guts).
November 19th, 201112:29 am
first off Matt Diaz, is not, will not, nor ever will be the Opening day starter in LF for the Braves
unless its against a left handed pitcher
November 19th, 201112:30 am
day shift, no Ward, Tn Brian, and myself aren’t related at all, but I have a boot that can relate to your arse!
November 19th, 201112:31 am
nolie, now come on, you know Fredi wiould start Hinske first…:)
o be the worst defensive catcher in the league.
they giving out stooopid pills tonight?
you need to phone home……….
November 19th, 201112:33 am
Plus now it looks like we really could use Jordan Shafer back.
sigh, its spreading………
November 19th, 201112:34 am
nolie, the local hospital for the psycologically impaired released for the weekend!
November 19th, 201112:35 am
you might be right Joe
damn did I see Francouer, and Schafer mentioned in the same sentence as Success? wake me up when that happens……. Rumplestiltskin anyone!
November 19th, 201112:36 am
So it appears that Joebrave took that as an insult.
November 19th, 201112:39 am
Frenchy seems to have found his comfy spot, with minimal pressure. He seems to have gotten a pretty good payday for a low OBP guy. I’m happy for him.
I was a big Schafer fan (heck, I’m a fan of all our prospects). If he ever grows up, he might have a decent major league career. Maybe.
When we dealt Elvis, we didn’t know Yunel was going to get deep into Bobby’s dog house.
credibility? lemme see here Andrus was dealt because he was blocked by Renteria/Escobar, so unfortunately Andrus NEVER had a chance here! I personally wouldn’t have dealt for Tex, but hey He was the best 1B available at the time when clearly the Braves had NONE!
So lamenting that deal is rather asinine.
Bourn, or Mclouth? that answer is fairly obvious Bourn all damn day long! now run along and play with your water colors and etch a sketch!
November 19th, 201112:41 am
Ward’s a good guy. I like him. He does go a little overboard sometimes. TnBrian can be a dipstick at times. Heck, so can I. I guess we all have our moments.
November 19th, 201112:42 am
day shift, no not insulted at all, those guys are cool with me, don’t be offended, that is my way of introing myself to someone I have never blogged with, everyone here that knows me will enlighten you, there are only 3 things that insult me, Brent Lillybritches, Jordan Schafer, and Jeff Francouer, now those three names insult the hell outta me, 3 of the most over-hyped jokes that ever lived.
November 19th, 201112:45 am
dang anyone know how long I have been here? 3 4 years maybe longer? Wayne help. I really dunno.
November 19th, 201112:48 am
Oh now Wayne, Tn B aint that bad, I am king of the dipsticks…
platoon this—platoon that. I hate to here it again. Platoons are for trying to cover up a weakness. I’m about tired of not having a better quality outfield. I love Matty and Prado but Diaz is a limited player and Prado desearves to play infield where his lack of consistant power is more acceptable. I like A Gon on defense and wonder if a new hitting coach might help him. Big if though. His eye and strock last year were awful. So trade Prado for something of good quality that fits our needs, SS, OF. Jurrgens if we have to, though I think his long term worth is limited, without Hanson we’ll probably need him at least for half a season. And all things considered, if Heyward can’t come around to start realizing his potential we probably won’t go far even if we make the playoffs.
November 19th, 201112:49 am
And the McLouth deal was a good move at the time. We didn’t give up much and most of us thought Nate was going to be the answer.
Similar situation with Bourn last year. Hopefully it turns out better, but he dropped off after getting to Atlanta similarly to the way Nate did a couple of years back.
Worst part about the Hot Stove League in these days, is we have loads of info, and we still have to wait!
Pastoniky has a good arm and he runs fast, that’s pretty much it. Why are we looking for a bridge to a guy that isn’t a very good hitter or fielder instead of looking for a major league shortstop? The Yunel trade was bad, Frank, get over it.
There might be some fire with the smoke from Colorado, but I doubt anything we’ve heard so far is even close to what Wren is thinking.
Me, I’d like to snag Heisey from Cincy. He’d look pretty good in left and he can play center and right as well. It would be nice to get a true CF of the future too, since it’s unlikely Bourn is going to stay after next year.
It’s pretty obvious that everyone is going slow this off-season. Most trades are a series of moving parts and until some of those parts are in place, it’s tough to iron out a deal, because you never know who will suddenly become available or whose price will go down. Prado is a major chip for a team with a hole at 2B, and there are a lot of those, and our young pitching for teams with weak or erratic pitching (like Cincy). I think Wren is going to sit back and see what becomes available.
It’s frustrating, though. We really need an OF who can hit. I’d hate to give up Prado, just because of his insurance value, but if we have to, we have to. He’s worth way more as a starting 2B than as a supersub or LF, and Wren is probably looking for ways to convert that value. He’s pretty good at what he does, so I’ll deal with the frustration.
November 19th, 201112:51 am
Wayne, yep, I pined for Natey Nate 3 years prior to the deal, I think Andruw cursed CF! maybe BoJu can release the curse, maybe sacrifice a bucket of KFC
November 19th, 201112:53 am
Matt? Pastornicky and good arm in the same sentence show , you know absolutely nothing about this kid!
November 19th, 201112:54 am
Tyler is all stick, and speed, and no arm , boy can crush AAAA pitchers
Phillippe Du Brave
November 19th, 201112:57 am
ooooh, Dan Uggla’s arms, simply divine.
Cole Hamels curveball
November 19th, 201112:59 am
I really doubt that Mr.Wren will accomplish getting past the Nationals, definitely not catching us.
Joe brave your killing me. The teams that don’t spend are small markets and don’t draw. Atlanta is a huge market plus our team spent more 15 years ago than they do now. Have you heard of inflation? Also giving up four top prospects for a one year rental is obsurd. We would look great with feliz and andrus right now.
November 19th, 20111:02 am
We’ve been spoiled by these strong armed SS’s.
I wonder if Jack Wilson would be a good utility candidate?
November 19th, 20111:03 am
Can you say, Ted Turner?
November 19th, 20111:06 am
Well at the time of the Tex trade both players were 2+ years away from Atlanta, again asinine lamenting, Tex at the time was a necessary evil, Schuerholz perpetrated that deal. Wren cannot be held accountable.
Kinda like ol Bill Wheeler Dealer Lucas, trading Dusty Baker for a Jerry Royster…
The only trade JS ever pulled off that worked for Atlanta was for McGriff.
Wren is a helluva lot better than JS ever was.
If you folks want to blame a piss poor GM blame JS, not Wren.
I said before JS retired if he wasnt fired or replaced he would ruin this franchise.Sumbee rode the coattails of Bobby Cox!
November 19th, 20111:08 am
And let’s not forget the wunnerful Mr.mullen, the only other GM in Braves history Dumber than JS, Brett Butler for Len freakin Barker
November 19th, 20111:10 am
What a load of shyt……..
I’m outa here. I don’t suffer idiocy well.
Nite good Braves fans.
Please no Jack Wilson, …yuck.
November 19th, 20111:13 am
why not offer seabass a one year deal, even if it is slightly over market value?
no way they let pastornicky (who almost zero of our advanced bloggers have ever scene in person) start next season.
read plenty of advanced scouting on the pastor they call nick.
think walt weis with less range and a smidge of more power. YEA!
Good glove man Joe. Not starter material, but good glove and arm. Think Gonzo with no power.
November 19th, 20111:26 am
BAS, watching the presidents cup? tiger is striking the ball much better.
however, he has scene more lip on the greens then a busload of baptist ministers.
webb simpson’s wife aint too ugly.
Ok, I’ve been called out. He can’t hit or throw. For some reason I was thinking he was good at 2 things.
November 19th, 20111:32 am
js was a great gm when dealt with the upper hand.
his greatest trade?
crimedawg for melvin nieves.
denny neagle for jason schmidt?
schmidt was better later on, and i am almost positive he was a PED guy but he had some real good years with the giants.
November 19th, 20111:41 am
crime dog by far
November 19th, 20111:42 am
Hello everyone! I say we sign Mac.Keep Prado, and trade J.J.That will open the door to save money, and get Bourn signed. Focus around Bourn, and we should use Prado at Lf this year.Go get a back up for Chipper that will Keep Prado in LF. We have deep pitching,so we are not hurting there.
November 19th, 20111:46 am
A veteran SS would be nice,so I agree.Mainly let’s get Bourn signed…….
November 19th, 20111:49 am
I’m all for Pastornicky SS,and will like to see what he can do? Another Rookie Of The Year for the Braves……
November 19th, 20111:54 am
nolie, hope all is well.
been a while.
i cannot believe they were thinking about jamie carroll. scoots grit factor probably smothered him under all that salisbury wood craft.
November 19th, 20111:55 am
for those of you, MR. scoots area makes some fine things for your home.
November 19th, 20111:56 am
they can pass on Bourn for all I care
November 19th, 20111:57 am
Through all of Raffy’s ranting earlier he got Diaz perfectly … guy is one awful baseball player and does ground into many DP’s now that I think about it. Just a deflating feeling as a fan thinking it is possible Captain DP could actually get to platoon in LF. UGH!
JoeBrave, who knows though, we coud actually be related and neither of us would ever know it.
Joe brave it is never good to morgage your future for a rental. There is nothing smart about the tex trade unless we keep him. It was rated top ten worst trades ever. I never spoke of the GMs. We have alot of pitching depth and some good bats to build around. We need a single owner not the group ownership crap. Lets pray some one like Cuban or Blank could buy the Braves. We are set everywhere except for 3rd,SS,LF. I say sign the Cuban kid to play LF. I heard the cubs are willing to deal the braves could trade JJ,Prado, and top pitching prospect for castro. Lets be real we don’t need to be 9 deep at pitcher. When Chipper final retires a ton of money will be freed and at that point we can get our spend on.
so did tom o hawk go on a walk about?
November 19th, 20112:00 am
MAN……waiting……but It’s all cool.Hope Wren ,will get what the Braves need.
I asked about Tom a few days ago and got no response. Not sure I have even seen him since I got back from the hospital
November 19th, 20112:01 am
Braves should let Conrad go too……
November 19th, 20112:02 am
nolie, not a Bourn fan huh? Why? I actually need to see him more to form that kind of opinion. Just really watched him be pretty average with us. Will get a good read on him over the course of next season. Buy or sell and I have a feelingI personally will not care either way. But we’ll see.
spent a lot of the last two weeks in chicago.
spent some time in wicker park, on north avenue.
ate pizza at piece there. really liked it.
November 19th, 20112:03 am
Conrad can PH and never play the field
November 19th, 20112:04 am
nolie, i think tom has some robert frost in him.
November 19th, 20112:06 am
inspire me people let’s talk braves. Let’s talk how they feel the need to have a 9 man rotation or more. We need someone who can hit trade some of these damn pitchers and get a bat.
Cuban, they’re not getting that Cuban kid. Dave has already said Wren isn’t going that route this time. Don’t bother. And the Cubs probably trade anyone but Castro. Why you being difficult on yourself here?
Speaking of – I wouldn’t mind Byrd in LF.
November 19th, 20112:07 am
If only Boras would die!!!!!!!!!
November 19th, 20112:10 am
Cuban, well first they need to find more than one out of the nine that can consistantly complete more than 5 or 6 innings a game. That’s a prolem too. Don’t throw this all on Wren. If some of these guys could actually stay healthy and/or go deep I games he’d probably feel more comfortable trading some more of this pitching.
never get or got the hate that many of you feel or scott boras.
he gets the best deal for his players.
November 19th, 20112:13 am
“If only Boras would die”
Go kill ‘em.
Boras is all greed…….Can’t stand him.
November 19th, 20112:15 am
What route latin ballplayers cause from what I know they can hit. Japenesse pitchers haven’t panned out in the long run. Castro for the right price I’m sure lets make a offer they can’t refuse. JJ,prado, patz, delgado for castro. Lets face it we’d be giving up to much but we need a ss and they need everything the cubs blow. If not lets try to trade for hanley cause I know he is gonna hate playing 3rd if reyes signs with the marlins. Byrd would be nice also I heard swish from the Yanks. The only thing is we don’t want to take in much salary that’s why a young castro is a perfect fit.
November 19th, 20112:16 am
you guys want to axe someone?
someone ask DOB what his salary is.
why do we need him and john s?
waht does terry mcquirk actually do?
November 19th, 20112:19 am
what does mcquirk actually do? other than sign the back of the tickets?
November 19th, 20112:20 am
“what does terry mcquirk actually do”
Frighten children with that ugly ass face? Other than that and pocket millions, ya got me.
November 19th, 20112:23 am
so JS draws a huge salary. so does mcquirk. why the need for both of them?
November 19th, 20112:24 am
point is JS should have mcquirks job.
November 19th, 20112:26 am
Maybe Prado, can play a full season in LF? We just need to find a way to keep him there.?
November 19th, 20112:27 am
actually i want terry mcquirks job.
Why talk Dodgers? Nothing to do with Braves?
November 19th, 20112:28 am
All about that money. McGuirk is chairman, JS is president. More the marrier I reckon.
do nothing. mouthpiece to john malone.
November 19th, 20112:29 am
Oh my goodness, Ward. Go to sleep
November 19th, 20112:31 am
chairman, president. zero culp on mcquirk.
why does this guy draw a salary.
November 19th, 20112:33 am
uga, you’re riling yourself up again thinking about McGuirk. Being serious here – that isn’t good for you at these hours. They say before you go off to sleep to be at some kind of peace and McGuirk is not your peaceful place.
November 19th, 20112:34 am
why are the braves paying both JS and terry mcquirk?
November 19th, 20112:36 am
tnbrian. they have the same position.
November 19th, 20112:38 am
“why are the braves paying both JS and terry mcquirk”
It’s all that fat ass McCann’s fault.
Alright. Peaceful place ……
tnbrian, pretty sure they are both pulling seven digits.
November 19th, 20112:41 am
TnBrian – Thinking of some one else. Thanks for Info.brain cloud……
November 19th, 20112:43 am
tnbrian, you do realize that 2 million could be spent better?
November 19th, 20112:45 am
I repost someone weigh in
November 19th, 20112:51 am
What I don’t get? Why does Wren say he’s trying to improve the ball club, andwhen ever there is a problem with higher contracts he trades them?To me you sign the Players to make your team good, not get rid of them when they aske for more money? I know there is a limit with the budget, but Wren keeps doing this. When we think we get a player? He trades them ,because of high priced.Just hope he keeps Bourn. It would be sad not to sign him.
November 19th, 20112:52 am
Wren, should make Bourn the Center fielder for a long time……
November 19th, 20112:55 am
Just have to be patient I guess, and see what Wren does?
November 19th, 20112:58 am
Yes bourn is the leadoff man we have be missing speed distracts pitchers and helps batters because of that.
November 19th, 20113:01 am
I think Wren, is saving money for Bourn too. It would make sense. All have a good one! Long night at work, and Brain is clouded. Talk tomorrow, and peace………….
Around The Horn
NOT SETH SMITH
Please not Seth Smith Frank!
Why give up a quality full time player like Prado for a part time player like Smith — with inflated Coors numbers — who will be here today and gone tomorrow?
And why trade a fan favorite like Prado for a player with comparable numbers? How does this improve the Braves?
Stop your revolving door policy Frank!
Save Prado for 3B when Chipper retires! And give a fully healed Martin a chance to prove what he really can do in LF next year! He’ll go back to his pre-2011 numbers.
Don’t bring in another Ryan Church type of player with Seth Smith. You tried that last year with Joe Mather.
See if you can sign J.D. Drew in hopes of a resurgent season from him. He had a career best season with the Braves.
Or do something else that would truly be effective and replace Fredi!
November 19th, 20113:17 am
J.D drew on the low low bargain deal might sound nice.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
