just watched a segment on Taylor Swift with my daughter on 60 minutes. She is a huge hugger. Could you imagine if her and Freeman got together? Hug fest!
November 20th, 20118:30 pm
San Diego would have to eat at least half of that total salary to make it work though, I would think.
November 20th, 20118:32 pm
Big congratulations to Tony Stewart!
Yeah but Uggla isnt changing positions anytime soon. We’ll see how Pastor does in Spring Training at Shortstop. Look what the Cubs are going threw with Starlin Castro I bet he becomes a great defender.
November 20th, 20118:33 pm
“but from the proven track record of the Atlanta Braves, with the lone exceptions of Heyward, and Francouer, these type of hyped up players are 90 % of the time trade fodder,”
What about Hanson, Beachy, Minor, Kimbrel, Venters, Prado, B-Mac, Chipper…. List goes on and on.
November 20th, 20118:34 pm
looks like Lou has company in unconditional hatred for Uggla on the blog
Let’s go Big Blue!
November 20th, 20118:37 pm
CAB – did you know that in between the construction of its masterpieces The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper that the SEC made some of the first innovations to helicopters?
I’d like us to have a good defensive shortstop who can handle a bat and steal bases. I could care less about power. I wanna see a guy who can make contact often, bunt, and just do the little things.
He shoot another commercial?
November 20th, 20118:40 pm
BL, don’t lump Minor in the keeper category just yet, and classifying Pastornicky in the class of Chipper, Mac, and Hanson… wellll that’s not a very good place to start. Hanson may flame out as well, that delivery yeek! Reminds me of the Great Tommy Boggs…. You lumped this prospect in with a Hall of Famer, two hell fire and brimstone relievers, and the best offensive catcher in the NL. not fair to this kid.
I said he would be a damn good 2B, been at this a long time, sometimes I am wrong, sometimes I am right, but after seeing him play, unless the braves get smart and move him to 2b, he will go the way of Francouer!
Now please can we have a convo about any other player not named Pastornicky???
Well than Pastornicky is your man. Great speed. Great small ball player. Good range. Main knock is his arm. Baseball America says out of our top prospects he is most liable to hit for the highest average. I’ve never seen him defensively and have my own concerns but I’d imagine if he comes to ST and swings it he will force the Braves to think if hes ready for 2012.
November 20th, 20118:41 pm
cricket, I don’t hate Uggla, just never wanted him, Prado was sufficient as an all-star 2B. and at this point 7 mill cheaper!
McFann O O o
November 20th, 20118:42 pm
braveslifer What about Hanson, Beachy, Minor, Kimbrel, Venters, Prado, B-Mac, Chipper…. List goes on and on.
Most of those guys were never hyped the way Francouer and even Heyward were…at least not to my knowledge, which doesn’t go back to when Chipper was coming up…
November 20th, 20118:43 pm
Vince Young is terrible.
November 20th, 20118:44 pm
Chipper was hyed McFann, but not like Heyward, and Francouer, there were other stars on the team that pre-empted that sort of thing, the hyping started when senility set in on John S.
“BL, don’t lump Minor in the keeper category just yet, and classifying Pastornicky in the class of Chipper, Mac, and Hanson”
Lol no I didn’t. I gave you a short list of Braves home grown talent in response to your quote of “but from the proven track record of the Atlanta Braves, with the lone exceptions of Heyward, and Francouer, these type of hyped up players are 90 % of the time trade fodder”
November 20th, 20118:45 pm
How about JJ to the Yankees for Nunez and Gardner + a prospect. This solves our SS and LF problem, and Prado can be the super utility player we need, especially with Chipper still on the team. Gardner can even play CF if we lose Bourn after next year.
The Jones Boys
Trade JJ for Nunez and Swisher and that will be a great offseason for us. Really a great deal for both teams.
November 20th, 20118:46 pm
Part of the reason Chipper was not hyped as much as Tommy or Jason is because he came up 18 years ago and social media was a little less…omnipresent. If Chipper was a prospect now, believe me, there would be Major Chipper Hype all over the place.
And they are usually just that BL, if you follow the club you would know that, by the way, Pastornicky is not homegrown, he was traded for, at the suggestion of Roy Clark.
November 20th, 20118:47 pm
“braveslifer What about Hanson, Beachy, Minor, Kimbrel, Venters, Prado, B-Mac, Chipper…. List goes on and on.
Most of those guys were never hyped the way Francouer and even Heyward were…at least not to my knowledge, which doesn’t go back to when Chipper was coming up…”
Pastornicky is not given the hype that Francouer and even Heyward were either. Not sure why he mentioned them in the first place.
November 20th, 20118:48 pm
cab, He was hyped like crazy on cnn/si, and espn, but Cox, and the Vets on the team stifled that crap, back then it was teamwork, and there was this kid named Griffey that was overshadowing Jones back then….
November 20th, 20118:50 pm
BL, every other poster on here, ….the same redundant question….. why can’t Pastornicky play ss in 2012…simple answer frank Wren said NO!
Brave New World
Freeman was hyped, and he had a “decent” rookie year. So did Heyward in 2010. Time to move on to another theory.
November 20th, 20118:51 pm
Stewart is the 2011 NASCAR Champ, Jeffrey.
November 20th, 20118:55 pm
I wanna see a guy who can make contact often, bunt, and just do the little things.
Sounds like Rafael Belliard to me VaBravesFan.
holy jeez! this kid has two nicknames already and hasn’t even played a whole ML 9 inning game! gimme a break! he is a nice kid that does not deserve that crap, he deserves to be where he can excel, and make a great living one day! like I said I like him, I like him a lot, he has the demeanor that he wants it bad, not like hey…I am TP, I am the greatest, and sniff my shoes for an autograph…. Tyler is the polar opposite of Francouer, he works hard, but he has a limitation on his arm which is either mental, physical, or plain poor coaching! Now please leave me alone about Pastornicky! He is a good kid, unlike the spoiled metro pony league all-stars, that turn my gut when they open their useless mouths.
November 20th, 20118:56 pm
With this championship Tony Stewart has moved into a new class.
Sprint Cup: 44 wins, 162 top fives, 266 top tens, 3 championships
Great, great driver and he isn’t done yet.
You aren’t getting Gardner, Nunez AND a Yankees prospect for only Jurrjens. Just stop it. Swisher and Nunez is too much for only JJ I bet. Let’s be honest, JJ has some serious question marks around him with his injury history and his dropped velocity will not be overlooked y another team. I really don’t see Boras as really that big a deal for another team though, especially the Yankess.
November 20th, 20118:57 pm
Watch out TnBrian, you are talking about a half season Cy Young there!
November 20th, 20118:58 pm
Swisher and Nunez will cost ya Jurrjens&O Flaherty!
November 20th, 20118:59 pm
Don’t you think that they will want to move Montero to an outfield spot? That frees up Gardner or Swisher.
November 20th, 20119:01 pm
Nunez will cost the Braves O’Flaherty in a 1 4 1
Joe Brave- You said “not likely Efrim, Pastornicky is nothing more than over-hyped trade fodder.”
I disagree completely with this statement
If you are now saying that “why can’t Pastornicky play ss in 2012…simple answer frank Wren said NO!”
This is right though. Wren said in an interview that Pastornicky was not ready to start 2012 and that he would keep an open mind via trades and free agency.
November 20th, 20119:07 pm
For all you youngsters out there, I’m going to recommend a great older movie for you. Papillon is on tonight on Directv channel 561 at 9:30. It stars Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Most of you haven’t seen a lot of McQueen, but he was great until he left life way to early.
November 20th, 20119:09 pm
bl, as a SS trade fodder, as a 2b I am for keeping Tyler, he can hit, but not at ss, that is all I am saying.
The mentailty of some here is why not Prado at SS, clearly martin’s worst position, and if not Prado, why not pasto…. blah blah blah, first off Wren has already stated NO to Pastornicky at ss in 2012. aint happening, no need to keep on, he is not ready, secondly anyone with any baseball logic knows a contending team will not go into a season with hopes that 3 positions rebound with better years than the prior, and a health risk at 3B , with a 22 year old unproven SS. Will not happen, this aint the Fla Marlins, or the Houston Astros.
Nunez has MLB experience on the biggest stage, and playoff experience to boot, ideally what Wren is looking for, will he get him, I dunno, but no way he is going to play a kid at such an important position.
November 20th, 20119:10 pm
The Jones Boys, all I know is what I’ve read on Montero and that he’s a high rated catching prospect. I take it they dont like him there? If he isn’t traded for pitching than I predict Swisher gets moved before Gardner does. Contract and age is why, imo.
November 20th, 20119:12 pm
Nunez will most likely be at SS, depending on what Cashman demands, I forsee 2 deals, 1 for Nunez, and JJ dumped for Quentin& a prospect.
and if neither happens, wellllllll hello Ronny Cedeno….yuck!
November 20th, 20119:13 pm
lol i can see it now…
umm Hell no! that is last place material
November 20th, 20119:19 pm
No he is a bad defender and I don’t think they want to ruin his knees. Russell Martin did pretty good for them and I suspect they go with him again.
November 20th, 20119:20 pm
KeyLargo – wow, have not seen Papillon in a long time…
November 20th, 20119:22 pm

Dale Jr. has no problem with the #3 being used: #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr., recently met with members of the media at Homestead-Miami Speedway and discussed a few topics, including Austin Dillon in the #3 and the history of the number, from the transcript in part:
Q) RICHARD CHILDRESS TELLS US THAT HE ASKED YOU AND (SISTER) KELLEY IF IT WOULD BE ALL RIGHT IF HIS GRANDSON RAN THE #3 IN THE NATIONWIDE SERIES NEXT YEAR. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF IN THREE OR FOUR YEARS HE SAID HE WANTED TO MOVE AUSTIN DILLON UP TO SPRINT CUP RACING AND HE’D LIKE TO TAKE THAT #3. WOULD YOU BE COOL WITH THAT?
Earnhardt Jr. “Yeah, I would. Austin has ran that number and I’m not real sure; I just look at it differently. I don’t look at the numbers tied to drivers as much as just the history of the number. The number is more of a bank, you know, that you just deposit history into. It doesn’t really belong to any individual. Austin’s ran that number and you can’t really deny him the opportunity to continue to run it. It just wouldn’t be fair. Dad (Dale Earnhardt Sr.) did great things. He was a great ambassador for the sport and we’re still as a whole, reaping the benefits of all he accomplished and what he did that put us in front of a lot of people. But even before that, the number was Richard’s. Richard drove it. And someone else drove it before then. There’s a lot of guys in the fifties and sixties that ran that number with success. So the number is really kind of like a bank and you deposit history into and they don’t really belong to the individuals. It’s iconic when you put the colors and the style with it; it’s a little bit iconic to the sport. Austin is a good kid, He seems to have a great appreciation for what’s happening to him and what’s going on around him. And I would be happy if he wanted to keep doing that. He kind of had to know when he first started to run that number if he got this far into the deal, he would have to cross a few bridges like that and that was a tough decision I guess at first to start running the number for him; knowing what kind of pressures he might face down the road. But I think it would be fine by me for him to do that. I think that it’s got to get back on the race track one of these days. It just can’t be gone forever you know?”(Team Chevy)(11-20-2011)
Kyle Busch uncertain if he will run other series in 2012: Toyota NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, #18-Kyle Busch, in part from a Toyota Racing Transcript:
Q) Do you know if you will race in the Nationwide or Truck Series in 2012?
Busch: “No, not yet. We’re working through all of the schedules. The schedules hadn’t been put together prior to Texas and still haven’t been put together yet either.”(Toyota Racing)(11-20-2011)
Bayne looking to run the Rolex 24 at Daytona: Trevor Bayne is trying to work with his manufacturer [Ford] to land one of the spots on a Grand-Am Road Racing Series Daytona Prototype team for the 50th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. “I’m working on Ford to try and run the Daytona 24 hour race,” Bayne said. “If I do that I will be doing some testing. I have never driven one. I think the Daytona Prototype cars are just sick. They look like something that you can just manhandle and have a lot of fun with. I’m sure there’s a lot more finesse to it than I’m making it sound. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to get out there and just be a part of the 24. That’s something that all drivers kind of have a checklist of things they want to drive.” Along with the running the Daytona 24 in a DP car, Bayne’s wish list of cars to compete in includes a rally car in the X Games, a dirt late model and a modified at Concord Motorsports Park.(Motor Racing Network)(11-20-2011)

VJ- I saw it about 6 months ago and it was fantastic. Like I had never seen it, but vaguely I knew what would happen next. But it was so good, I’m going to watch & Tivo it tonight. Great roles by McQueen and Hoffman. Just a movie I could watch once a year and it’s from 1973.
November 20th, 20119:28 pm
I like the “Great Escape”. Featuring McQueen, James Garner, and a ton of others.
November 20th, 20119:29 pm
sign Wilson Betemit & Scott Hairston, deal JJ/OFlaherty for Nunez/Mason Williams/Laird.leave Prado in LF.
November 20th, 20119:30 pm
Saw the original True Grit last night, John Wayne often imitated never duplicated!
November 20th, 20119:38 pm
Almost all of McQueen’s movies were good. What was the one where he was a Det. in SF and racde that 66 Mustang up and down up and down all those hilly streets? Plus the Great Escape was a 4 or 5 star movie.
And I saw both True Grits. The winner hands down – John Wayne.
November 20th, 20119:41 pm
Bullitt I think
November 20th, 20119:42 pm
BULLITT was the McQueen movie in San Francisco.
November 20th, 20119:53 pm
If Wren were looking for stop gap SS why not just add something to the Lowe deal, and get Jason Donald?
November 20th, 20119:56 pm
Jones Boy – sorry I posted Bullitt right after you already put it up. Honest mistake. You the Winner
November 20th, 201110:12 pm
I’m wondering Dave bringing up Swisher means he heard for himself last week Braves are interested in him and/or the Yankees are listening on him
November 20th, 201110:15 pm
Hello everyone! Pastornicky wll be the SS ,as the Braves are planning to bring him up.Like it or not. I think Pastornicky will do fine.
November 20th, 201110:17 pm
I do like the Swisher idea, and like the idea of Nunez. It’s amazing how there is so much hate for Pastornicky, who has’t even played.
Ward, sorry dude, I do not believe you. Where are you getting all this new info anyways? Of course it’s possible Pastornicky could start the season with ATL, but no offense, I’m not taking it from you.
November 20th, 201110:18 pm
I like the idea of the Braves bringing up Pastornicky, and think he will prove people wrong, and they will still hate him.
November 20th, 201110:19 pm
Where are you getting your BS?
Never said you have too……
November 20th, 201110:20 pm
I think Wren will start a Rookie, if he can’t get a SSfrom the Market? He would’ve got a SS already.
November 20th, 201110:21 pm
Word has it that Larry Munson has passed on…
Have not seen verification…
November 20th, 201110:23 pm
Ward, what part of Wren did you not understand, He specifically stated Pastornicky will NOT be SS in 2012, is there some higher power than Wren on personell?
Ward, you just sound so matter of fact. As if you just heard this info from Wren himself. Granted, most of us fans here know the drill anyways and only believe hardcore evidence like when DOB says something.
By the way, anything I write is just opinion or what Dave has written or tweeted.
November 20th, 201110:25 pm
Oh! NO RIP Larry Munson! You will be sorely missed!
November 20th, 201110:27 pm
Larry Munson, whose authoritative voice and momentous radio calls helped define the Georgia Bulldogs for more than four decades, has passed away. He was 89.
November 20th, 201110:30 pm
The Braves are interested in Nunez, and also the Braves are looking at bringing up Pastornicky in the middle of 2012,so there! This is what I’m hearing. Eventually he oculd be worked in.
RIP Larry Munson
Ward – pay attention to the Giants!
November 20th, 201110:31 pm
No way they are planning on starting Pastornicky, Freeman, and Heyward at the beginning of the year. Three under the age of 22.
Jay Cutler – broken hand…
November 20th, 201110:32 pm
TnBrian – I just don’t see Wren making any moves. He hasn’t made one yet.Hope he does, but if he doesn’t I think Wren will start Pastornicky.
November 20th, 201110:34 pm
Run Lindsay, Run!!!
November 20th, 201110:36 pm
I bet Wren does, just by the articles I read. He’s gone to about six teams, and hasn’t done anything yet. It’s starting to look to me. Your going to see Pastornicky, and Heyward start,or Pastornicky in the middle of the season.
November 20th, 201110:37 pm
Ward, that’s cool. Not trying to be a di** to you or anything. We’re all Braves fas here and like you, I want some Braves news too. I’m pretty ansty. And I did think Wren wouldve made a trade by now as he usually works fast, but it’s still early.
Wren, isn’t going to trade no one unless he gets the package, and the Yankess haven’t put one out yet.To even draw enough interest.
November 20th, 201110:38 pm
TnBrian – why doesn’t trading Lowe count?
November 20th, 201110:39 pm
TnBrian – All I’m saying is don’t get your hopes up.I don’t think we are going to see any thing until Dec. 3rd,or 6th.
November 20th, 201110:40 pm
I misspelled Yankees ,but who cares it the Yanks….
November 20th, 201110:42 pm
VJ. The Giants suck tonight, and suck……
November 20th, 201110:43 pm
Its not even Thanksgiving yet. We haven’t even got to the non-tender deadline. Calm down. All they are doing is laying ground work and preliminary convos.
November 20th, 201110:44 pm
That’s the spirit…
November 20th, 201110:45 pm
Yeah Wren normally works fast but with the expiring CBA and people working slowly this offseason I think hes having trouble finding a trade partner
Ward just wants a trade – I’m sure he’d be happy with Kimbrel for Alex Ovechhkin…
November 20th, 201110:46 pm
Heck,I was basically telling you guy’s to chill. I’m calm as thwe wind…….
November 20th, 201110:48 pm
What ever…. I’ll come back tomorrow, and most will be talking about the same. I could take a vacation, and come back ,and the same thing would be talked about.A small joke.
November 20th, 201110:49 pm
VJ-I don’t like the way this Giants game is going. They are palying like crap.Oh well…..
November 20th, 201110:53 pm
That’s the Eli………………….
November 20th, 201110:55 pm
Ward.. he always leaves it to the 4th quarter to turn it on. Eli is a frustrating and exciting player to watch as a Giants fan.
Eagles have led 9 out of 10 games going into the 4th quarter…
November 20th, 201110:56 pm
Kat – that’s what I was trying to tell him…
VJ,and Kat- I’m wearing my Super Bowl Hat. Hope it gets the Giants going.
November 20th, 201110:58 pm
VJ and Ward.. he just likes us to sit in anticipation till the 4th quarter…or it just seems that way every game.
November 20th, 201110:59 pm
November 20th, 201111:16 pm
November 20th, 201111:17 pm
